GRVII: Challenge Nr 3: Rise of the South

3.1 Route 11
Just before the eruption of the conflict mayor Turtle put a last hand on the new state route, Route 11. Looking at a map of the region he came to the conclusion that the relative underdevelopment of the south partly was due to lack of access to most of the territory there. Also counting on a more amicable relationship between the two nations, he planned a bridge in Rivermouth (tile L), letting the new route connect to Route 1, and therefore serving the east end of the region with connections both nortwards and southwards. Coming in from the west in Downland Woods (tile G), Route 11 turns northwards till it hits the coast of West River (tile D), where it turns east and follow the river. In Bordertown (tile E) it intersects with Route 10, and continues along the river eastwards through Riverside (tile F) to Rivermouth (tile L), where it crosses the river and hits Route 1. Here is a view of the routes in Bordertown:

3.2 Recent developments
As you can see, things have developed a bit in the south since the seperatists took control of the north. Here's a view of the region as it stands today:

3.2.1 Bordertown Region

Since the seperatist took control of the north, things have been at a standstill there. Here is Cold Lake (tile B), the main town of the north, built before the separation:

3.2.2 Cold Lake (tile B)

After having had a thinking break, where mayor Turtle evaluated his skills as a mayor (it's no fun at all being dumped the way he did, see here), he came to the conclusion, that something else had to be tried with the south. Maybe his rural, little state intervention mayoring style, had provided too slow progress for people to like him in the north (though they liked being able to play SC4). Therefore, he tried a more urban approach to mayoring. Here is Bordertown south, the new main town of the region:

3.2.3 Bordertown overview

For a town of this size to develop, you of course need a stable and less polluting energy source. Luckily, because of mayor Turtles hindsight, Route 11 passes through Downland Woods (tile G), where a natural gas reservoir was found in challenge 2. Here is the new powerplant, serving Downland:

3.2.4 Downland Woods Natural Gas Powerplant

Planning for a cleaner and better off society in Downland, mayor Turtle recognise the need for proper educational and health care facilities. Here is a couple of new initiatives in Bordertown; Between two residential areas, a library, a health clinic and a police station was placed next to this small park:

3.2.5 Bordertowns new library

3.3 Physical Manifestations of Separation
Following the separation, the Upland Separatists broke off the connections to Downland, except for that of Route 10. Instead, a checkpoint was built on the south side of the border:

3.3.1 Bordertown Checkpoint (tile E)

and the two disrupted connections:

3.3.2 Rivermouth Bridge (tile L)

3.3.3 Riverside Grand Rail Bridge (tile F)

There you have it. I hope you enjoy this as much as I do. All comments are welcome, compliments as well as critiques.

Thank you for your update.

We have now taken note and copied the pictures of your challenge 3, it will be judged after the deadline.
Now you can do whatever you wish to do within your regionhalf only, but make sure not to overbuild it comparing to the rest of the region. It might give you some serious problems later on.
You do NOT have the right to touch anything of the part that belongs to the Separatists.

Challenge 4 will be partially given by your adversary and you will give a challenge to someone else. Who will be challenging who and the matter of the challenge will be discussed in the Challenge 4 thread once everyone has turned in their part of this challenge.

Are you ready to be told what to do by a Separatist and a Governor? Good luck and we hope you enjoyed this one.

Challenges are getting harder to do, so does the judging, and we soon need more time to judge the challenges. I know this took awhile but we have been working on it for quite awhile and since our judging is being done separately, we have to bring them together before presenting the final results. Thank you for being patient. So here they are.

A.  Although you already had covered most of the region with the two first route, you were able to find other places not served by an official route. Excellently done and thought of, we gave you the maximum of 5 points for the route challenge.
B.  Both rail and road cutoffs were well done and the control point on the main route is also finely built. Although we wanted something that looked like it was quickly done and you have built some big fencing around it, it still was worth a good 4 points to us.
C.  Your region is starting to look very nice and we are sure you will earn  some good points in one of the following challenges when we want to see the farmlands and forests. We liek the commercial area of one of your towns and the position/location of the towns
, so we gave you a solid 4 points for the regional works without taken the very natural looking terrains/forests/farmlands in credit for the moment.

A Total of 13 Points were added to your challenge.

The region is excellent sofar, well done. Good luck with the separatists.
