Title: Lars' MD - Featuring the Zollernmark - First 2009 Update
Post by: praiodan on February 09, 2007, 02:48:29 PM
I know... the MD's name is extremly creative  ::)

Anyways, I wanted to write a small MD here featuring my current region, maybe even more, time will show.
As a bit of explanation: This won't be a usual MD I think (though I must say that every MD is special in its own way), because I will write a story going with the pics, I don't just want to show you my cities only and I hope you will enjoy reading the story as well as I hope you enjoy the pictures.
So... I wanted to use this first post here as a table of content, so no one looses overview when this gets on more on more pages (hopefully).

Thanks M, I really hope you enjoy it.

1. A sunday morning's awakening
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg294.imageshack.us%2Fimg294%2F2618%2F80809462sa1.jpg&hash=7b55998b41ecc502d6bdbc3c09aeeb4e4ce269e7)

It was a cold february sunday morning when Mirco Heebelingen awoke in his huge bed. Alone. It was nearly totally silent, only the old trams outside, down on the street made some noise when they drove along their track. The sunrise filled the room with a soft but warm, orange light. Mirco enjoyed this kind of moments, knowing that they are just of short endurance.
After some time gone he straigthened up to have a look on his clock.
7 AM already..., he thought with a little sigh letting himself fall back in the cosy pillows.
After a few more moments of snoozing the alarm of his clock went on he reluctantly got up and went to the bath room.
Looking in the mirror he saw the smooth face of a handsome man at the end of his 20s with round, sapphire-blue eyes, short black hair and some stubbles arround his cheeks.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg130.imageshack.us%2Fimg130%2F8944%2F22863728eh5.jpg&hash=6a5b4caf60a5b2963522801137ee60a85707c8cf)

After a shower and a shaving Mirco dressed while looking out of his appartment onto the ocean and the lifefull small quarter of Friedrichstadt, the city he lived in. Suddenly it came to his mind, that he actually has a wonderful life and reached so much already: He had a good job in one of the nation's most reknown architect's office, owned an expensive Mercedes and this wonderful appartment with that wonderful view over the city. But he felt alone. He had no one to share his fortune with.
He already imagined, that his parents will complain again about that he hasn't found a woman for life, later this day when Mirco attends church with them as he does every sunday.
If they just knew..., he sighed, took his keys and left the appartment.
Down, he didn't had to wait very long for a tram - he considered to take the tram instead of the car, knowing that the parking space situation in the inner city is horrible. As the stations passed, the train finally entered the inner Friedrichstadt. Mirco got out of the train and decided to walk the rest of the way.

When he passed the Michael's Market he already saw the busy St. Michaelis Square with its pompous column which is just in front of St. Michaelis Cathedrale.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg79.imageshack.us%2Fimg79%2F8222%2F22861221os5.jpg&hash=57076961c20650972dcd99429244613d622eb371)

He walked a little further until he saw the whole square and the cathedrale. In the first seconds he was astonished by this view.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg76.imageshack.us%2Fimg76%2F9049%2F83240485ix8.jpg&hash=448a7af4be5a4513f9095bc3eefd989c500f04b8)

But then he already saw his parents waiting for him, standing on the stais of the church and had to sigh. He walked on.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg403.imageshack.us%2Fimg403%2F9453%2F99eg5.jpg&hash=ea33fafa947760ec8dc191bb8cf5dff24ea94eeb)

When Mirco reached the stairs he put on a pretended smile when he looked up to his parents. He couldn't stand this ritual. Every sunday the same...
Mum, Dad, how's it going? he asked while making towards them and then hug first his mother, then his father. Well, son, it's well with us. And how are you? his father wanted to know. Mirco hesitated a few seconds to answer, then he quickly said Thanks, I'm well as well. A bit tired though, there's so much work currently at the office..
Poor son his mother sighed and Mirco thought Gosh, when will they ever learn to call me by the name they gave me once. A few seconds of silence occured, then Mirco said Let's go in before all the good seats are taken. They just nodded and went ahead.
The divine service was even worse than Mirco expected it to be, the priest's homily was about smething like evil in today's society, but Mirco didn't even try to hear to what the man on the pulpit said. And it was darn cold in the church. When the divine service was over, Mirco told his parents that he has to finish a presentation still to get rid of their annoying presence.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg160.imageshack.us%2Fimg160%2F6222%2F999my0.jpg&hash=bdaf648ab5ded36b86bc08b7b6221fa6b0d23dcd)

Walking down a street heading for a tram stop he realized he hadn't eaten anything yet. He bought himself a sunday issue of the Friedrichstadt Kurier at a Kiosk on Tannenbergplatz and entered a small cafe called Mausis Café, sat down on a table and sighed. A stressed waitress came around to take his orders. Welcome to Mausis. What may I bring you?. Mirco just ordered a coffee and a small breakfast, then he took his newspaper and began to read...

to be continued

That is sexy Praiodan!  ;) I love the plazas, the Euro buildings, and most importantly, that beautiful Cathedral!

I see you have Maxis' Buro of Burocracy, did you get it as a reward or did you just plop it? For some reason I have never received it as a reward... I usually cheat to get it.  &ops lol

Anyway, looking really good and looking forward to more!  ;D Great story too!

Thank you for all your encouragement. I finally came around to answer your comments and I wanted to let you know, that an update isn't far away. Though, I must admit, it won't continue the story (I'm sorry, but it's pretty tough to write it) but I'll give you some major information about the city, the region and country the story is set (I recognize I should have done this first probably)...

Thanks!

I don't want this to happen as well, though, it's really time to update here!

@ Cali
Yep. Gotta thank Shadow Assasin for the street mod and Porkissimo for the great seasonal trees.

Thanks. I think I'm addicted to W2W stuff somehow. Can hardly build a city without any smaller historical blocks.  :D

@ jestarr

Thanks Marius. I got the BoB after playing some time as reward. It's strange that several people report they can't unlock it, it always works for me without problems... strange  ()what()

As promised, the information update...

2. The Zollernmark

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg219.imageshack.us%2Fimg219%2F4970%2FZollernmarkkl.jpg&hash=9ce4f49cd417e3b31473dcc838cb1d3cf4a0f5df) (http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/327/Zollernmark.jpg)

The Zollernmark is a small independent kingdom consisting of a bunch of small islands, located in the German North Sea Bight. Of the approx. 470,000 Sims living there, 300,000 of them live in the capital which is Friedrichstadt. Other major cities are Harrisbourg, Hijchtensen and Smörretho.
Friedrich-Arnold III. is the officiating (absolutistic) King who resides in the Arnoldsburg Palace, south-east of the inner city of Friedrichstadt.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg219.imageshack.us%2Fimg219%2F9971%2Farnoldsburg.jpg&hash=30ba67688dfab2599ebce36ed6aff7f657de614c)

Talking of Friedrichstadt... you've already seen a few close-ups from north-western parts of the city while Mirco headed for St. Michaelis Cathedrale... here's a bit more...
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg219.imageshack.us%2Fimg219%2F8858%2Ffs_old_2.jpg&hash=40507ef06b6b69be2674f312409400a36bcb0a48)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg219.imageshack.us%2Fimg219%2F4113%2Ffs_old_1.jpg&hash=5d1fda21331a24998bae10344fd07eda3f93b5d0)

Compared to other capital cities in Europe, Friedrichstadt is a pretty young one as founded in 1571. But today it is as busy as any other.
Due to heavy subventions in the last 20 years the city and the whole kingdom was seized by a big economic recovery, which caused highrises to pop up. The district Neejen Felde holds most of them.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg219.imageshack.us%2Fimg219%2F8058%2Ffs_downtown.jpg&hash=5639cb65eeb5e9099aea54c16c2b7da1899b291b)

Today the economy is a pretty healthy one which can be traced to the prospering industry around the harbour.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg219.imageshack.us%2Fimg219%2F4681%2Ffs_busyharbour_1.jpg&hash=5720721ad65c88f00ed7083a58ca47bce1413427)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg219.imageshack.us%2Fimg219%2F1894%2Ffs_busyharbour_2.jpg&hash=385458c375e2fa5e34f0f64d962b65e48941d945)

All that caused the suburbs to sprawl, today they cover big parts of Zollernland, the island Friedrichstadt is built on. Because of this, the municipal authorities established a toll charge for everyone who wants to enter the inner city coming from the suburbs.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg219.imageshack.us%2Fimg219%2F3554%2Ffs_suburb_3.jpg&hash=29ec582e304412443764ecf6740c055844f02ecb)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg219.imageshack.us%2Fimg219%2F835%2Ffs_suburb_1.jpg&hash=0410d5563c01d58a5ec9003e8e419c4446d763c0)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg219.imageshack.us%2Fimg219%2F543%2Ffs_suburb_2.jpg&hash=e0a09f3fa50e90f7393d30b4e4067a8d875bc36b)

But please don't think the Zollernmark is nothing else but Friedrichstadt!

Harrisbourg, with 70,000 inhabitants the second largest city, is located north of Friedrichstadt and is apart from a few smaller farms near Smörretho the only community in the Zollernmark, that still depends on agriculture...
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg219.imageshack.us%2Fimg219%2F849%2Fhb_innercity.jpg&hash=b6ce745c1fd42245484dcc6eae094b2c81a14fe5)

Smörretho is the smallest of the 4 big cities of the kingdom counting 42,000 Sims. It's famous for the so called Seeschloss (Sea palace).

Hi praiodan ,

So we've had to wait about 2 months to see others pictures from you ...
Stunning work   . So many things to see that I don't know by where begin ... I love the city planning , the amount of great historical buildings ( I'm assuming they're your own stuff , like this triangular and others on picture 3 ...)
Stunning suburbs , so green ...
Picture 9, 10,12, 13 , I particularly love the shore ...

Anyway , too many things on each picture to draw up an exhaustive list of what I enjoy .  $%Grinno$%
You have drowned us with too many things to comment on .
However , I would have liked closer views  ... ::)

I'll have to come back on this set .  &apls

Brilliant praiodan. There is soooo much detail to take in, and all of it is very, very good. But what strikes me most about all of the images is the seamless way you've blended the old Euro with modern, with industry to suburbia and rural. It really is very, very good. Well done! &apls

Such a massive update, it is really to much to take in at once. Love the palacegrounds with the Radclif camera on the hill and the central areas with all the huge historical buildings. Most of all I like the suburbs which I have never quite manage to make myself, and these here in Frederichstadt are very good.

Lars- Your eponymous MD is better and better all the time.  The last update was a truly marvelous collection of pics- great background text as well.

You are just a bit away from moving into the MD "Ones to Watch" category, so if you wake up and find it (the MD) missing here one morning, that's where to look.

Take care.

Long time no see, eh?

Well, I thought that it became just a tad too long, so I asked if this MD could be revived from the Archives - and thanks alot to the MD Section Staff, it was

Ok, now to tell how this will go on... A lot did change and it's some aweful long time since I played the Friedrichstadt region for exampel. Actually I do work now on (re)creating several cities from my nation, which is the Zollernmark Kingdom (which's capital is, as you may guess/know, Friedrichstadt).
Apart from posting pictures I think I might keep you up to date about the going-ons in the Kingdom.

To finally start off, I'll have a few bits about the Zollernmark for you...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ld-host.de%2Fuploads%2Fimages%2F16be2039ae0c1ae49aef19da2043d212.png&hash=b82c21efe89478b21d8694847ce2adba93d96471)

The Zollernmark

Population: 16.850.000
Area: 32.000 km²
GDP: 358 Billion €, ca. 21.000 €/Sim
Sovereign: King Friedrich-Arnold III. von Hohenzollern

And here's a little map:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ld-host.de%2Fuploads%2Fthumbnails%2F29231921d506c0568dac66f25c31eed6.jpg&hash=aec5931965752b3bbebdc6351041c9f6eaef3470) (http://www.ld-host.de/uploads/images/ca0dd66afa5bc98227c050cfb26519b6.jpg)

The city I'm currently is Lowangen, the capital of the Revonnian Uplands County in the south-east of the Mark. It's located along both banks of the great river Haver, making it an important domestic port. The city counts about 600.000 inhabitants, making it the second largest city of the Kingdom behind Kronstadt and is especially well known for the here brewed beer.
That's it for now actually... oh wait, no, here's a little teaser from Lowangen for you, showing the Königsburger Tor at the edge of "Auguststadt".

Well my dear Piotr, how should you? I mean this thread has been in an abyss for more than two years. So there'd only be two real possibilities how could have known it already: You saw it when it was active in first place (which is rather unlikely, refering to your registration date; otherwise you must have been lurking around SC4D for more than two years  :D) or you combed through the MD Archives  :P

Ok, so here comes the first update on Lowangen...

3. Lowangen - Mierendorf
Before I show you around the center of Lowangen (where also the Königsburger Tor is to be found), I wanted to start with one of the western districts of the city, which is Mierendorf.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ld-host.de%2Fuploads%2Fimages%2F449e144a6c9359db25484a8faf9997a1.jpg&hash=b6f8277a09955d6a20602c7cd9a4f6eb883253f0)
Mierendorf station. One of the most important stations of Lowangen, right behind the Central Station and the Ostbahnhof.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ld-host.de%2Fuploads%2Fimages%2Feab2fc6dad3a8345f8083a257a1772a7.jpg&hash=692097497e75e50b248847070976150475b1d760)
Just behind the station the main motorway's exit of Mierendorf is to be found.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ld-host.de%2Fuploads%2Fimages%2F35c72d2dd11bc3fbac9297a074b77378.jpg&hash=bf2116f2bb297b92227a5185ba7fc39cd02d309c)

Some holding tracks to be seen, as there's a lot of industry around.

As (former) working class district, Mierendorf is still very densly populated.

4. Lowangen - This Ol' Hammer

Will you hear me
tellin' my story?
Will you hear me
when I tell you a sad sad story?

A story 'bout a man
who-o-oo
who was workin' very hard,
veeeeeeeeeery hard.

He was workin' day and night.[...]

Well, these are parts of the lyrics of a workers song, that used to be very popular in the beginning of the 20th century, not only in Lowangen, but all over the Zollernmark. So you might guess this is an update dealing with industry and workers in particular, as I already mentioned that Mierendorf can still be mostly characterised by just this. So, no more words, I'll let the images speak for themselves  ;)

Wow, what an update, Lars!

Your industrial areas look just fantastic, my friend! And the mosaic at the end is great with the highway and the sound barriers--great stuff!

You're almost into the Best Sellers, too! I'll be keeping an eye out to make the move for you!

Take care,

As a little "special" for that, I created a wiki entry for the MD (http://www.wiki.sc4devotion.com/index.php/Lars%27_MD).  :)
And of course another thanks to you, for leaving your comments  :)

@ thundercrack83
Thanks a lot Dustin for having it moved asap

@ sebes
A very special thanks to you for marking the 100th posts, my friend! Prenzl'erberg in optima forma you say? Well, then it has to be true  ;D

@ ejc
I have created those side-track Lots myself (the props used are from royal and Kenworth) and it's quite possible you've seen them over at SimForum cause I showcased them there as well  ;) As the state is now, they (and another bunch,  am about to create some more) will be released as a pack asap the SFBT Railroad Mega Prop pack by royal and Kenworth will go online  :)

@ Pat
No, the logisitc center's not my creation, but I can give you the link to the public release anyway  :P It's an awesome creation by jestarr:

congratulations lars on the move to best sellers! Great update. I especially like that you have provided plenty of industrial parking- something that is often overlooked. Your residential parking however looks to be a bit scarce. the residents must pay a lot for a parking space!  :)

Newspapers are always a plus in my book. ;D

I like how you related the current global financial crisis to Zollernmark (I just realized how awesome that name sounds out loud $%Grinno$%) as well as your background story to your SCJU application, which by the way, has full support from the Grand Duchy of Genevra. :)

As for the trains...I figured they weren't released yet, I was sure hoping for it though. :P I will eagerly await getting my hands on them. :satisfied:

Hey Piotr, nevermind. I know exactly what you mean with the school work (though I got holidays right now  :P). But thanks for stopping by anyway  :)

@ DJ
Haha, remember though that you have to spell it with a sharp Z, not a soft one like in "Zoo". It's rather like there's a T before the Z  :P BTW, with every day the rail prop package gets closer to its release (no fix date though).  :)

@ Carmine
If you like media, you will like the coming update as well I guess  ;D

@ Yoman
I, though, hope that the shown pics won't rise your expectations (esp. regarding the rails) too high in future  $%Grinno$%

5. Lowangen - Bahnhofsviertel and surroundings...
Today I'll show you around the Bahnhofsviertel, which is the quarter around the main station of Lowangen. It kind of connects the CBD in the north with Auguststadt in the south.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ld-host.de%2Fuploads%2Fimages%2Faab75dadde5547779cb14f6d73cd5192.jpg&hash=742d43e4c4b03021316fefc447df3283b7a1733c)
Lowangen central (also HBF). More than 200,000 passengers frequenting this station everyday make it the second busiest right after Kronstadt central.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ld-host.de%2Fuploads%2Fimages%2F8362935268bc84d113e1b969806eb1fa.jpg&hash=03af95a8e6434fb56aca1dea0d8900625f06e05f)
The HBF is perfectly connected to Lowangen's public transport systems. 9 of 14 tram lines, 3 subway lines and about a dozen bus lines stop around, in front or beneath the station. You can practically get everywhere in the city from here most easily.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ld-host.de%2Fuploads%2Fimages%2Fd54efb0b79b05de5db9901579afd2511.jpg&hash=a2dad33f185866db70b7c30ad4b5124b339a37d3)
Just around the corner, the Bahnhofsstraße and the Breite Straße are crossing.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ld-host.de%2Fuploads%2Fimages%2Fa390a32c342075d954ca3ad60cc1f5cf.jpg&hash=7e59f347b2fe4a38b8ecc4ec1dcf6d4d3da4a51b)
The A351 acts as a feeder to the Stadtautobahn A30 and leads directly into the Bahnhofsviertel and Auguststadt.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ld-host.de%2Fuploads%2Fimages%2F4ebb2c865c730a15df8172a00e7a9ec0.jpg&hash=3f2806b6138652216640447396159da47be6e905)
Bruderkrieg-Gedenkpark (War of Brothers Memorial Park - the War of Brothers took place 1907-1913 between the Royalists and the Republicans) in the quarter "Neu Lowangen".

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ld-host.de%2Fuploads%2Fimages%2Ff9ab85af1d5d28436b88b16c42dc594a.jpg&hash=fc1eaac926de2d5fb7465317530dcc223cc5f598)
Small section of "the scar". The scar is a commonly used term for the traffic area, consisting of the A30 motorway and the main rail tracks, that kind of "cuts" through the city and looks like a scar from above.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ld-host.de%2Fuploads%2Fimages%2F3d7953273e2a21780b2211f367516a7a.jpg&hash=1f243e1027434917cf01dac0c45c76b5aad0e4ff)
Commerces along the Königsburger Landstraße and the overburdened main tram track.

The Königsburger Landstraße crosses the busy Hehrfurter Platz.

That's it of Lowangen for today. But I got still something for you: a bit of the latest newscast on EZF (Erstes Zollersisches Fernsehen)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ld-host.de%2Fuploads%2Fimages%2F81325cd8924567499fcb4ea310cf445f.jpg&hash=52862b1031af81f2d8ebcac94e41ffe33ed5a3e0)
"New Rhodesia - In the course of the last SCJU Secourity Council meeting, the ambassadorship application, which the King filed a week ago, for the Zollernmark was granted. His very Majesty announced to comment on this personally in his State of the Kingdom speech this evening, that will be held to conclude this year's Azalea Feast."

"On behalf of the King I may announce his very happiness about this happening. We believe that being an ambassador state will benefit both; us - the Mark - and the Union. It is our sincere hope to establish good relations with the other deputized nations. This is a step of extremly high importance for the Kingdom to be finally able to shake the current misery of international isolation off. For having made this a possible action, we are thankful to all the member states that gave their very support to the application., said Hermann Jal, chairman of the KNA*, at this morning's press conference."

Haha, getting into good relations with F-A III. might be quite easy. Just support him while he's going through with his... well... special style of governancing  :D Shall I ask him for a private audience with you?  :P

@ art128
Ah, well, you can find something like this at quite some places in Berlin around and also beneath highways, though in a smaller scale I've got to confess, so it's not thaaaaat unrealistic at all I think. Apart from that, for such an inner city setting, some parking area is never wrong on some space that would be rather useless and very hard to develope something on it  ;)
The train station btw is a compound of NOB's Hiroshima Central Station (which unfortuatly is not available in its original form anymore since he took is creations offline, but the building might be included in one of the Building Packs available on the LEX: Pack 1 (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1554), Pack 2 (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1555), Pack 3 (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1556)) and a self-made and unreleased glass hall (kind of inspired by the Berlin Central Station).  :)

@ feliwi
As said above in the reply to Arthur, the station itself is not available anymore, but the main building might have been included in one of the NOB Mega Packs, available at the LEX. The hall, however, is my own creation and will most probably stay unreleased as I didn't put so much effort into it and therefore it's not really worth a release  $%Grinno$%

Looks great Lars...!  I really like the extensive GLR and the W2W, especially with the mixed types of architecture and building types.  Though they're not the same as the adjacent ones, you have the same theme throughout... and it really works!  (I have no idea if that actually made sense...)

Keep up the great work!!

6. Lowangen - Auguststadt Mosaic
Because I didn't found the time to prepare a real update for you, I created a little mosaic. Hope you'll like it  :)

The Revonnenallee is one of the most adorned procession streets in the Zollernmark. It was set up as the heart of the Auguststadt, which's construction works started in 1752 by order of August-Gustav I. von Revonna, also known as August the Great Elector of Revonnia. The Auguststadt served him and his successors as a residence city near Lowangen, which ever had been the county's actual capital. During the 19th century, the Auguststadt was incorporated to Lowangen, as the developements completly surrounded the residence by now. Nowadays, the Revonnen dynasty still inhabits the Revonnenpalast and the Revonnenallee became a famous aim for tourists.

For some reason or another, that reminds me of Berlin......

Love it and the way you have builded the city up around the axis.

Aw, well, not so sure about full membership, cause I don't think I'm familiar enough with quite a lot of things still.  ::) ;)

@ vester
;D (have a look beneath  :) )

@ Badsim
Wow... what a comment from one of the best MD'ers ever - I feel most honoured. Yeah, I'm quite a fan of rather those rather bright base textures, they just fit those brightly textured buildings  :)

@ bat, art128
Thanks for dropping by  :)

@ Emperor Stormont
Aye, they're (semi) private creations. I asked yoder7652 for some of his Osturland buildings models and I'm sooo really thankful that he send me some for me to retexture and match them to my needs. Yet, I've also made use of swi21's Zappeion Megaron model. Besides, I stuck together some pieces of my Oslo Slottet to create those twin buildings infront of the palace... This ensemble btw is inspired by Schloss Charlottenburg and its surroundings, where you find twin buildings, known as the Schlüter buildings, in front of the palace as well. :)

This is the kind of building style I like; European with a mix of American touches. The avenue promenade in the mosaic is definitely European, whereas the highways and some of the buildings are American. It's also nice to see someone who works with diagonals, rather than against it (i.e. the buildings and the lots to hide jagged edges). I watch here for more !

Lars,

I just got caught up on your MD and must say excellent work. The park picture that jeronij highlighted on page 3 was excellent. You also have done a great job in your building style by building a balance between parks, transportation, and structures that everything is very interesting and unique. Keep up the good work and I will keep looking at it.

Wow, I feel proud to see my MD becoming OSITM! Without you, my dear readers and commenters, this would not have been possible, so thanks to anyone!

I will try to justify this award within the coming weeks. School was quite heavy the last weeks and I had to write quite many semester exams, but on wednesday I will have my last serious one (one week later there still is one coming, but this will be rather relaxing  ;D). I hope I will be able to get an update ready for you the coming weekend, so stay tuned  :)

Again, thanks everyone! And welcome to page 9!  ;)

It seems I missed a lot during my absence ;) That's really great you decided to continue your MD!
I was always amazed by your BATing skills, but now I see your cities are excellent too!

I like your city planning a lot, your pictures show really alive and realistic Euro city, I must analyze them carefully, I guess I can learn some new things  ;D
(And I must look at BATs you used, it seems I don't know some of them  ;))

Congratulations of the OSITM award, I'm sure you will show us more fantastic pics in future

Unfortuatly I got news for you, which are not that good, in fact. Lots of homework (more than I expected to get) and stuff to do at the office (much more than usually) kept me from preparing a decent update for you. I hoped that after the exams stress would cease, yet it's still rather messy. I hope everything's sorted out asap so I can finally provide you an update. Nevertheless, I will answer your posts now and leave you with a teaser I had on my HD for quite some time now.  :)

Oh, and of course a thanks to everyone who commented!  :)

@ dsrwhat316
Aye Dan, in fact that highway arrangement can be considered quite European as well and once more I got inspired by (guess what?!) Berlin. Though, on the other hand it is yet american again... because it were the American city planners, who came to West-Berlin during the 50s and 60s that wanted to rearrange Berlin like this  :D

@ CabraBuitre
Thanks. I will try to provide you some other shots of that area in the coming updates!

@ paroch
Ah, true, there's way to few time available for hanging around SC4D (or at least spending time with the game!), so no problem. The more I'm delighted so see many new guests like you popping in  :)

@ Ennedi
Adam, it is good to see that you are back to the community and I'm anxious to see you analyses of my city planning  :P

@ flyinbird93
Ah, that was an easy one to do. I just googled for Tagesschau, one German TV news cast and edited the logo etc.  :P

@ thundercrack83
Dustin, I really am disconsolate about having to put you off with the update. But as I said, I hope to get it ready asap!

And before I forget... here's the promised teaser !

Mostly this is just a couple of close-ups of the Auguststadt part, but also of the Revonnengarten, the grand garden found behind the Revonnenpalast. I'll just leave you with the pictures for now  :)

VERY NICE! You have a great place here. And, some buildings with which I am not familiar. Are those your work? They are very nice.  &apls

Ahh, back to the Best Sellers. Even during December, when this MD was OSITM, I've always looked into this category first, when I wanted to have a look at the thread  $%Grinno$%

I hope everyone around survived the Christmas and New Year's (which I belated want to wish to be a very happy and prosperous one for every body!) jollifications :)

Okay now, but back to topic... or rather commenting your comments first  ;)

@ thundercrack83
Thanks, Dustin  :)

@ Fabian
Thanks a lot! Yes, indeed it is the Revonnenallee. But keep in mind, that it's called that way only between the Revonnenpalast and the Königsburger Tor. Behind, it becomes the Königsburger Landstraße (usually just shortened to KöLa, when someones talking about it  :) ).
And as you might have already guessed... I love to make lots of referings to Berlin when it comes to build up a city... Not the best way to show off creativity, but well, it works  :P

@ iamgoingtoeatyou
In fact that's just one broad avenue, all the others are simple avenues  :P But also a thanks to you for stopping by!

@ Lilojame
Thanks Karin! I just hoped I would have been able to update on a more regular basis and not just once  ::)

@ bat
Thanks!  :)

@ sebes
Bedankt! (is that the right term? )
Yeah, I think I understood it... at least most of it  :D

@ CabraBuitre
Hehe, thanks! Still, most of your nice words I have to pass on to swi21 and yoder7652, at least they had much more work with the models than I had with just retexturing  ;)

@ warconstruct
Thanks!  :)

@ CraigKingOfIreland
Thanks! Well, I really hope it does, because it's one of the main points to make a city look good... make it look vibrant ;D

@ Schulmanator
Thanks! For your question I'd like to redirect you to my 2th November replying post (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=392.msg195464#msg195464). Just have a look what I told Emperor Stormont :)

So, now... though I have holidays, I've felt rather jammed when it came to SimCity. Just a liitle bit of laying out roads here and there, but nothing really worth mentioning. But then I finally installed feroxx' new W2W package this morning... and I was in fact PLAYING for about 5 and a half hours (must be a record for me! also cause my computer usually decides to take its breakes after 1 hour or so ::) ). Though, it wasn't anything spectacular, I've been able to fill up quite some blocks, which was very satisfying! Therefore I wanted to show you a regional view of Lowangen:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ld-host.de%2Fuploads%2Fimages%2F1fef5054188559c54bbbeb0145020c81.jpg&hash=bd7daac40ce0da4d0aa16762b487ecf0d38f32f3)

While playing I also jumped over the 1-million-sims border... again, nothing really spectacular... but I just noticed while switching maps  :)

Oh, and don't wonder about missing suburbs etc. and the single buildings to be found in the middle of nowhere... I need them as orientation  ;D

Cheers!

Lars,
great region shot! I had no idea it was inland region... I thought the region had some islands too, didn't it?
Anyhow, looking forward to see what you made during those 5 hrs with Feroxx package... And now please advise: why do you need orientation in the middle of nowhere  ::)

I really like that avenue promanade you made in the last update; very creative Lot Editing. That overview is impressive, too. Hope to see more updates soon!

Lars,

To be honest, I'd love to get my hands on either the originals or the retextured ones... !

I can't wait to see what you've got for us in '09... I'm glad we've got a "Praiodan" MD to follow on a regular basis again!!

It's good to see that you found time for SC4 again, Lars.  1,000,000 sounds like a good enough milestone to me.  The regional map looks good.  I look forward to more, Lars.

Hey, your last update was quite amazing. It really looks like you spent a lot of time and detail laying everything out and filling it with plazas and parks. Its just beautiful. I am looking forward to seeing more :)

That's quite the region you've got going there so far!  I love the details on the parks and plazas in your last full update!
