Title: Casper's Concepts - L. Kamino Freight Shipping
Post by: CasperVg on February 06, 2010, 12:16:56 AM
I've been trying to make a new upgradeable seaport based on the Gare de marchandise by The Urban Mountain. So far, this is what I have.

Stage 5
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi424.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fpp328%2FCasperVg%2Fseaport2.jpg&hash=bf6af2d153ebb320c76d945dd0871a9f8e4e90ed)
Lotting here is far from done. I will probably get rid of the railyard section (two dependencies less), move the Shell tank (too dangerous), move the carpark further left and possibly add an extra tile north, but other suggestions are always welcome.

Stage 4
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi424.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fpp328%2FCasperVg%2Fseaport3.jpg&hash=9b97c6e8d33a16a7ed21ea1cd414a957389bb067)
As per above, still lots of work to be done on this one. Moving the car park is necessary, and I'll also have to add another row of tiles in.

For the Stage 3, 2 and 1, I'm thinking of using an older, more dilapitated and smaller building - so it would be both a capacity-increase and a modernisation.

Hope you like it,
Casper

i think the railyard section limits the oppurtunities in which this seaport can be used, as for the rest of the lot, it is a shame the base texture doesn't tile better but apart from that it is great work.

I've uploaded Albert I Memorial Park to the LEX yesterday.. Years in the making (first version was back in January '08) and now there...

A few pictures:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi424.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fpp328%2FCasperVg%2Fmmason2.jpg&hash=7c3775871b00ae27f7aea3aa62436c9dca11eb8b)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi424.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fpp328%2FCasperVg%2FMMason_various2.jpg&hash=8f69eb3640ce52a67f7dfb130bd3519e3da7eca0)

Find it here (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2343)!

N.B.: The name changed during development, and the greyed-out part in the second picture is a version of the park that didn't make it to the public release.

I've always been a fan of your first park. Still have it in my plugins somewhere. The updated version is awesome though!

Hope you had a great birthday, my friend!

A small update.. something I've been working on recently: Vigerdig Fuel Station.

There's plenty of good stuff going on here Casper. There are a couple comments I'll make though. First, the train in the bottom right: generally when a train pulls onto a siding like that they try not to leave any part of its consist (the cars behind it) on another track. This is especially true on a busy route. Also, on the left side of the lot, is this intended to convert to STR at that end? If so, have you checked to ensure that texture will properly join up to the STR line? Lastly, with the train snaking its way to the top of the lot, it seems like it would be more practical to disconnect the consist and run the engine in. If the fueling section was on the mainline where the train could just stop then start again it might make sense to see the consist left attached, but given the great variety of possible train lengths, for such a setup as where the orange engine is sitting, it's most likely that they would just leave the consist on a nearby siding. It's looking pretty good though.

Thanks, Matt, I'll have to keep that in mind.

Meanwhile, two new lots using SimGoober's farm fields and some of CP's houses.

I do not indeed understand, things can evolve during the years? And it seems to me that the main building moves between two images.

Yeah, you're right, the building does move around, I'll have to correct it's placement a bit.

...looks much better, the figure brings it to life... like the textures concerning the shingles and the improvements to rails on stairs looks right...

I'd offer it in 3-4 colors i.e. white/green shingles, white/black shingles...

... do you have some parks in the works that this is for?

Gazebo's on hold for now.. maybe I'll return to it later.

I've been working on a CAMpatible Private School, using a BAT by justanothersim from the STEX.. What do you think? I'll also do a version with an american football field and running track at the back (extended lot size, of course).

 I think it looks fantastic.
Is there an entrance on the left side of the school?  I was just wondering how the people get in from the parking lot.  Maybe you could add a path from the parking lot to the front entrance of the school.
Otherwise it's pretty near perfect.

Thanks Robin, I tried adding a path from the parking to the main entrance, but the place is such a mess of overlay and base textures already.. and adding a path breaks it in-game.. &mmm

Extended version for american football:

In the afternoon, the junior team plays and there's a small running competition:

And at night, the big guys' game is held:

I think this private school must be a special request from someone we know...  ;D

It looks great so far.  For the extended version, I would recommend that you use different tennis courts if you are indeed going for an American look.  You almost never see clay-colored courts here.  Green is pretty much the standard.

Nice work - and something that the game has needed for a while now.

Great looking lot Casper.  Your BATs are of very high quality.  One suggestion though, perhaps if it is possible to rotate the football field so that the bleachers are closer to the school.  We would not want the fans to have to walk all the way around the field :P  Keep up the great work!!

I love that consturction site.  Would be great for MD's, especially those "road geek" MDs, such as Tarkus' "Tarkusian Cities".  It would be neat to have these at custom lengths so that an entire stretch of avenue can be closed down.
Title: Re: Casper's Concepts
Post by: spa on October 13, 2010, 05:21:33 PM
Nice idea. One small problem, some of the cars are pointing the wrong way. I have used Cycledogg's props extensively and I know the prop family for the cars has a mix of vehicles oriented front and back (I'm guessing that's how you've ended up with some pointing in the wrong direction). You could of course ditch the prop family and plop down all the vehicles as stand alone items. If, however, you wanted to keep the random factor that prop families give, you could create two new prop families out of Cycledogg's vehicles that divide the cars by which way they're pointing. Either solution would solve the problem.

Perhaps it would be good to network-enable it with the paths of the avenue to road transition?

Also, I think it would look good with some traffic cones?

Otherwise it looks great with the props so far. Very nice.

Hey all, it's been awhile - felt like lotting again today and decided to try my luck at a farm again.. here's the result:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi424.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fpp328%2FCasperVg%2FSCT10000.jpg&hash=56c4dfa459c438ca99656b98124e03699bdf2aea)

All very temporary of course - and I'm not sure about the farmer's house - does it look out of place?

Casper
Title: Re: Casper's Concepts
Post by: threestooges on June 04, 2011, 10:16:52 PM
The house looks a bit out of place. It's a bit ornate for the area, and it's strange to see such a narrow house with two stories there when there's plenty of land to work with. The rest of the lot looks good though. The perimeter hedge looks a bit fancy for a farm lot, but it works to define the garden there. I also like the parking lot near the house there. Great touch.

Oh yeah, good to see you lotting again.

Hi Casper,

Nice to see you lotting again. The farm is the size and concept of what I am planning to do as a stage 5 farm in my Dutch Farm Lots Set. You might take a look in my thread for the first three stages I have finished already.
Anyway: you plan a different kind of look. I'd say: the farm house is out of place indeed: why tow stories while there is plenty of room? Also the turkey barns should have some fences and turkeys walking around. When I understand Simgoobers bat correctly the small thingys in the sides of the barns are exits for the turkeys to walk in free air. I also think a farm this size needs some more silos for food and some storage for machinery.

Had some spare-time so decided to continue working on the avenue construction lot I was doing awhile ago. Still a lot of things that require changes (some flashlights missing, etc.). Also some cars are indeed facing the wrong way (problem with c.p.'s car prop family).

Day:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi424.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fpp328%2FCasperVg%2FSC40014.jpg&hash=e46d914da9db88552c07e820de091276cdc8c8aa)

Would anyone be interested in doing some accurate TE'ing for this lot? (eg. have the SC4 automata drive correctly?) All I can do is make it connect to some OWRs (and even that didn't really work out, as shown in the pics ::))

Hope you like it, all comments are appreciated!

Hi Casper,

This kind of lots make a realistic city. It's very nice.
If you cannot use CP's prop families, you can make your own or use the alternative to prop families. have a look a this tutorial:

Nice lotting, I'm a fan of lotting myself. A quick suggestion, Orange in his proppack has cars and vehicles that are at a 22.5 degree angle which wouldn't be so sharp and I think would be perfect for changing lanes on this lot.

Given the fact there was so much positive response, I decided to work on it some more today.

I mainly worked on the detailing:
- added some work area road signs (from this (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2576) excellent pack of French signs by Girafe - some even light up at night!)
- switched c.p.'s cars over to Orange's car props (thanks for the tip Deionn!)
- fixed the (temporary) TE'ing

@Girafe: actually the poles I used are not nightlighted at all - the red glare is a Maxis effect that flickers at night (so the lights actually go off and on)

Taking a detour from construction lots (no pun intended :?), I lotted a community recycling/waste collection centre. Goal of these is that the citizens bring in their large garbage (chairs, old tables, couches, woodwork, used bicycles, hedge trimmings, grass leftover, etc.) to the collection centre and put it in the desired containers. Their cars are weighed upon enter and exit of the centre, and they pay for the weight they dropped of. Lotted it after the collection centre of my hometown.

Title: Casper's Concepts - Vigerdig Fuel Station revisited
Post by: CasperVg on December 30, 2015, 11:55:20 AM
I reworked the old "Vigerdig Fuel Station" today. Thanks to Simmer2 for his help with the RRW railyard textures.

Wondering I should mod it to work as a freight station? Right now it's a "Railyard without station". But that basically makes it eye-candy that you pay for.  ::)
The textures are a little bit off in a few spots (most notably the start of the railyard where it goes from 2 to 4 tracks), but I couldn't find a better alternative for that transition.

Suggestions appreciated as always.

Definitely a freight station. :)
Title: Re: Casper's Concepts - Vigerdig Fuel Station revisited
Post by: Simmer2 on December 30, 2015, 12:09:38 PM
Hi Casper.
Very nice freight station  ;)
I see that issue and have a solution. The RRW textures are a bit unforgiving in tight situations due to the greater turning radius and transitions. Therefore sometimes the lot has to be a bit bigger than the original in order to accommodate the extra tiles.
Would you like me to look into it?
If that is an existing lot please link it here if you wish.

Regards, Simmer2

I re-modded it is a freight station (truck->freight train and freight train->truck) that allows passenger trains to pass through.

@Simmer2: Thanks :) I've attached the file below. Feel free to take a look.

Got it, I will look in to it over the holidays.
Where is that building from? Did it come with the original lot?
Oh and I did a search online with that station name but could not find anything beside your mention of it on this thread.

Happy new year!!!

Nick.

Post by: Simmer2 on January 02, 2016, 02:31:36 PM
Well I went ahead and modded it without the dependencies list.
I left it naked, you can finish it to your likings but its functional  ;)
I added transitions and I created a side DTR to Railyard junction for this lot. I noticed that you had quads on the TE'd side, in order for that to work you would need to custom path the lot therefore I ran a simple DTR with a couple of crossovers for visuals, it works!
Just add your base textures, overlays and other props and you are done

Title: Casper's Concepts - mgb204 Terrain Grass version of Jeronij Concrete Walls
Post by: CasperVg on January 05, 2016, 03:07:35 AM
Did some quick re-lots of Jeronij's Concrete (Diagonal) Walls, so that they look better (have the same grass texture at top/bottom) when used with mgb204's Terrain Grass mods. Included in the attached zip are versions of the Diagonal Up 1 (w/ diagonal fences), Diagonal Up 2 (w/ corner fences) and Diagonal Down pieces with the correct texture. The other pieces have no separate sections of grass and thus didn't need to be updated. I've tested them with the Sudden Valley Unified Wealth version of TGN, but I assume it will work with all versions. Ensure that they load after Jeronij's original pieces, of course.

Example (when combined with mgb204's diagonal fillers):

Title: Re: Casper's Concepts - Osaka Central Post Office relot
Post by: CasperVg on August 18, 2018, 02:26:40 AM
Found this model at http://tsushinikai.com/simcity4/ (thanks Noah and 0715463494 (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=388.msg526846#msg526846)), but somehow it was rendered extremely off-center. Since it says "Redistribution free." on the author's website, it should be fine to use Model Tweaker to adjust it and release it together with the relot, right? The original is a 7x6 landmark, this one is a 6x6 CS$$ offering roughly 1800 jobs, growing only on corners in the Houston and Euro tilesets.

Thoughts?
