As I have been doing my seaport at my Little Italy region, and there was not a thread for that in here, I decided to open one and post a couple of images from.
Cheers
Rayden
Spectacular start  !!!
I specially liked the second picture, is there a day pic available ;) ?

I hope you like it ;)
hi my friend thats some beautifull work &apls &apls
Lovely Start
Nice layout too. looking forward to seeing more of this
:satisfied:
Simply WOW ??? !!! I´ll have to use SOMY`s ships soon &hlp !!!
That mosaic is only 1/3 of the whole seaport area. You can check that easily from the overview pic on the first post. ;) The whole area compreends 2 city tiles. I'll see if I can do a mosaic of both areas and glue them together. &idea
These look awesome Rayden! Looking forward to more
Fantastic work, hats off to you. No detail overlooked :)
Great stuff Rayden. I love every picture of Little Italy.
CJ's are the main reason I keep on going to ST.
Nik-Nik
Great seaport, Rayden!
A little flash of the first part of my seaport. &prt
http://rayden.zftp.com/sc4/littleitaly/little_italy_upd1_flash1.swf
Great animation!!
Great pictures!!
One question: Are you using a freeware version of the Flash Slideshow Maker???
@bat - Yes it is. v.2.23
As promised, here is a mosaic made of 2 parts, one from each city and then merged together. Attention, quite big image. Clich the image to see the full one. (5824x2744 - 2,67Mb)
Now I would like to see other contributers. I'm sure Jeronij will do one, as soon as he gets his hands on Somy's ships ;)
C'mom guys :)
That is amazing  Fantastic work Rayden!
Awesome work, rayden!
Thanks for the answer!
wow awesome flash i was eating some cornflakes watching that amazing work, and i love the mosaic its beautifull
Thx guys :) I love your new avatar Jackie
Wow! That is one cool port! And it's big. Really big.
But mine will actually be *slightly* bigger. It won't be finished for at least two more weeks though, since I had to start building the connected downtown area to boost some industrial demand.
But I took a fast overview shot. I don't know if it looks as good as yours up close though...
Nice, it will be big, indeed ;) Good luck on that enterprise. :)
I cannot wait to see the completed port Emilin! Keep us posted ;)
magnificent pictures. Great work all
&apls &apls
Rayden, your ports are wonderful.
Emilin, wow, that is going to be a true big port.
All together wonderful seaports. I'm building one at the moment, Ill show you some pics soon . But it's not ready built yet.
But if you want to see one of my harbours watch Reltingen (http://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=36&threadid=84322&enterthread=y)
Now my presentation, I also decided to create a flash movie, thanks for the idea. Now my port:
Just the port is built in my city called Porto Pablo. I will build up the city later, But now enjoy the presentation!
http://www.skyalbum.com/album/feliwi/45853cec0f6/Port_Pablo.swf
Flash size fixed ;)
Looks great Feliwi. I look forward to more ;) The big version looks much better
Nice port and flash ;) About the size of the flash, when you had it inserted on your post, you should have replaced the values flash=200,200 by flash=640,480, that are the measures of your flash movie.
feliwi, the slide show is excellent  , in fact, the whole thread is excellent, and I have to make a big effort to keep me from starting a harbour right now :D !!!
Stunning
Lovely stuff i mean it lovely
Great flash movie, feliwi!
Great port!
I can see you fixed the flash movie, it looks great, congrats. ;)
Feliwi, may I ask where you got your ships from? And also the square sea cage thingy in picture 5. Very impressive harbours everyone.
:shocked2: That looks great Emilin!!!!! I really like the massive container yard and freight rail depot! This inspires me to make my own port! Keep it up mate
Hello to all,
Outstanding mosaic emilin,
Very well planned and executed ;)
( Oh, I am glad to see that my ships are not out of scale and they fit well with Somy's port stuff ;D !!! )
awesome work you guys, great flash felwi, emilin great mosaic
&apls
Hi Sam, some container ships are from this site here, the other are from here (http://members3.jcom.home.ne.jp/somy000/index.htm). You will find also some special docks there. Some other you will find here (http://tokitoko.hp.infoseek.co.jp/lot_landmark.htm). And if you look for "seaport", "ship", "oil" or "navy" in Simtroplis you will find some lots too. ;)
very nice emlin what are the commute paths like going through that thing?
&dance
Fantastic looking seaport!
Thanks Feliwi ;D

I have no idea. I haven't turned the time on yet. Most of it is just plobbable parks and landmarks, but I think the industrial works available should be communtable through the highway from the neighbouring city.
Awesome pics dude
you deserve a cuppa for that alone
:satisfied:
Hi, it's me again.
I have a second flash animation about my Port (and city) Port Pablo. It's much bigger now. I made the landscape more beautiful, just look!
http://www.skyalbum.com/album/feliwi/4586f00e13f/port_pablo2.swf
Excellent slide show feliwi
I think it looks great.
Throwing my 2pence worth in - I think you have too many ships passing too close together.
Most Harbour master try to clear as much traffic out the way of the big shiops entering and leaving port at the same time.
I can see a major disaster happening in the future so maybe its time to replace the current HM.
All round its impressive and you deserve a cuppa for the slide show alone.
:satisfied:
Very nice animation Feliwi  I like the shoreline flora/rocks ;)
You just raised the bar for port realism for all of us once again. This port looks usable in verey detail. I love the bulk harbour combined to the coal plant (which makes perfect sense and solves a heap of problems caused by the fact that there are very few available BATted barges for transporting bulk inland). And the transport solutions are awesome...
Hi Alek
Great work, you had some reffinery smokestacks, I don't know. Mayby you could tell me where you got from
Fantastic seaport, Alek King of SC4!

Guys - these ports are breathtaking, and the slideshows make it just a pleasure to lurk here! &apls &apls &apls
Now we are talking about ports. A lot better now than the one you had before. ;) Great work AleKing &dance
Great work AK. It looks very cool with the rail line going to the end of the port  It looks very realistic mate ;)
Hi Alek, it's me again, feliwi. I've got one other question. On the first pic made by you there's that reffinery. And there is atanker on the left. Where did you get from?
It would be very nice if you could tell me, thanks ;)
not sure of the name just search pipeline set on the stex, it comes with the set that is attached to it
it does not show the ship in the pic on the STEX though but it is included, it will show up in your parks
menu and is eye candy unless you choose to mod it.

Here is my seaport in Illian
hope you like it ...
Great seaports everyone, there are some very creative ideas here.
meldolion: that's a very nice night view.
Great seaport, meldolion!
Wonderful
great shots everyone
:satisfied:
Waw.. that night shot of your Illian port is realy cool Meldolion &dance
That looks great Meldolion &apls It looks very cool with the night lights
You took my advice AK, and look at that amazing port you came up with, just makes me &apls. Now lets see some of Jeronij's ships get stuck in there ;D
Here are a couple of shots from my ongoing CJ on Simtropolis, Levante. The first is of the seaport just constructed (small seaport for a small town!), and the second is a shot of Tanvelle Shores, the richest part of Southport, Levante.
&apls
Love the Tanvelle Shores. G
Great idea.
Nice, very nice indeed &apls
great technique
Great work, nedalezz!
Wow, that must be a great area to live in and stroll on the beach just from your house :satisfied:
excellent work that beach is amazing
Excellent shoreline Nedalezz  I really like that :)
That's a very nice looking high-wealth area! I've been trying for the longest time to get an all-high-wealth res area somewhere in my city, but it never happens. Only mid-wealth. So you can't blame me for being a bit jealous at what you've been able to create . Great job!
nice job nedelezz. that high wealth beach area's really nice looking.
Hi there! Great seaports and shorelines guys! I really like them, nice work! ;)
Now, I'll show you mine, I called it Annis Port.
Hope you like it...
Nice looking fishing harbour, I got try to do one as well sometime. Great job. ;)
How can we not like this? This is freakin'cool port LP! The last shot is just great &dance
Very great seaport!
excellent work on that seaport
Nice job you've done there LP &apls &apls &apls
Very very nice work LP  I like the breakwater thing with the jeronij marine control tower
And how about a nice small-town fishing port?
Good one! Simple, but very great and realistic! ;) Great job
Now this one does remind me to my vacations on the Adriatic coast. Thanks for bringing back good memories Fairlane500! ()flower()
Where did you get those from? They look awesome ;) Great work Fairlane :)
I finally finished my port. :-[
This shot is comprised of several different cities, so the quality is so-so. For more pictures of this port, check out my City Journal (http://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=36&threadid=82292&enterthread=y&STARTPAGE=8) over at ST.
Click here (http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/963/overviewcompleteqo2.jpg) for a larger view (about 1 mb).
Wow! Great one there! I like it because it's so big and so well organized!
Good job!
LP
Very great harbor, emilin!
Fantastic job. It's difficult to get one port growing in 4 different cities - but you did very well.
That is one awesome port  You should be very proud Emilin :D That thing is HUGE!

Eeehhh... to be perfectly honest: there's not a whole lot of actual growing taking place. Most things are plopped and nonfunctional. The industry area in the middle is grown, and some of the warehouses too, but other than that... not much. I wanted it to look like a real port, but I had no intentions on making it actually WORK like a real port. &ops
Wow...these ports are very impressive!!!
Emilin, I must confess I have lurked over you CJ at ST sometimes ago, and definitly you have made what I consider the best seaprort I ever see. and the explanations that I have found in you CJ helped me to make my own seaport. I hope to show you some pics in the future
Wonderful harbor, emilin!
excellent work and pics you guys
Great pictures again. I like the lots with the imported cars. Where did you get those?
It's a RoRo-terminal from Somy. Same as the ship.
Great port! I love the car terminal
these are very sweet ports &apls
can someone send me a link for that water plz, its looks so realistic!

Wonderful port, Giligone!
Fantastic port, too, Alek King of SC4! Like the "circels"!
Gulp guys!
I can only awe at these FANTASTIC ports. &apls &apls &apls
Emilin Those close ups are great. I especially like that wast yard. great stuff.
Nik-Nik
Great ports you guys. I like the railtracks and the realism in your Giligone. Alek, the shape of your port is very unique: good job!
great work from all of you, it is interesting to see how each of you uses the same lots differently...
where would or ports be without SOMY.
After looking at all these ports, my only comment is so much to do and so little time.
&apls
They are all awsome!
Keith
Ahaha, you're all too kind. ::) Thanks!
see... some of the creations using Somy's ship lots and plops... are exactly what I was getting at for the last three years, requestion from BSC and Peg and such... when I have talked about plopable river indusrty, ships and such....
here is the first.... ( I opened up SC4 for the first time in a month or two.... and you can see the results in my journal.... its gone live again ;) )
Amazing ports guys! I might have some pictures of my recently built seaport soon #stsfd·
BournID: Wow! That looks great. &apls
I'm asuming the water effects are photshopped? If they are, then it's excellent editing, if not, then you've managed to make this game do things I never thought possible.
&apls  To all people who have uploaded there ports or seaside shots. The quality of the work i have just seen is mind blowing and let me say i hope i can produce a port half as good and id be happy. Thanx to everyone who shared i enjoyed every bit of this thread you are all legends. &dance ?$%kar&%h
You're seaport looks wonderful, BourneID!
QuoteI might have some pictures of my recently built seaport soon Satisfied
Looking forward to your seaport!
Bourne: I think i can smell fish coming from that port area, and i don't think it's coming from the ocean :D
All of the Ports are looking GREAT. I've got some good ideas from looking at all of them.
Here is my shoreline that I've worked on in Slope City.
and the cliffs
No port to show off just yet, but it will come.

Wow amazing work sepsis!
Where did u get all the harbour lots and ships? I am amazed and I want them *grin*
Really really great work!
BourneID:
I really love the water effect of your port! how on earth did u pull that off?
Gread Jobs Guys....
&apls &apls &apls &apls
Sepsis: Needs more red.... paint it all red!
the effect for water.....
in photoshop... open the image... create a new layer... with a soft edge brush paint the water areas solid (leaving a space around objects shuch as ships and shore) control click on that layers icon in the layers pallet... selecting the painted layer... hide that layer and switch over to the image layer... select Filters/Distort/ocean ripple
set the ripple size low and the magnitude 3/4 (or best, make sure preview is on)
now without deselecting... go under Edit/Fade ocean ripple and lower the visibility to give a transparnt wave effect....
for the water disterbance behind the boat.... I simply went to google images, typed in ship wake and selected one that was interesting.... and selected an area of it that was usable... erased unneeded areas and placed on a layer ... lowering the visability ... used a gassian blur to soften it up a bit and played with the levels a bit...
:)
this is one pic, it took me a while to decide how to do this , so here ya go:)
Comrade Sepsis,
This is an excellent example of the superiority of the mother land. $%Grinno$% j/k
Great stuff though. I loved the bridge / island / tunnel transition. Something I would have never thought of but have seen many times in my travels. Keep up the good work.

Cali => A spectacular sea front !
sepsis => Wow! great work!
great picture, cali!
another one from the same city, also with military
fantastic seaport!

wonderful seaport :)

wow !! Master's work ! &apls

Beautiful shorelines, jacqulina! &apls
Love the shorelines Jacqulina. I really like the fishing village. It ia a Japanese BAT isn't it? I have seen it before on one of the Japanese sites but I can't remember which one. Very nice.
---Gaston
I would say that those qualify as shoreline shots. The first one in particular is just stunning with the underwater flora. Were you able to get that look after just one try or was their some use of the bulldozer button? It looks amazing and so absolutly natural (what with the trees at the bottom and the way they partially shield that boat to provide a sense of depth to the pic). Congratulations and I look forward to seeing more of your work.
hi there, thankyou so much for the wonderfull comments,
GASTON yes my friend thats the japanese nets ect but off hand i cant remember whos site it might have been nob,but i could look if you would like and tell you,
THREESTOOGES sometimes i get the look quite quick that im after, but most of the time like the lighthouse took many bulldozing to get it right, did you see the lighthouse pic,its on the front page of devotion.it does take a long time with the little details
thanks so much
Gaston, I think this is what you're looking for.
It's
NOB's Fishing Port Expansion pack vol. 2 (http://tokitoko.hp.infoseek.co.jp/lot_others.htm)Asahi
Yes Asahi that is it . I looked at all my links to the great Japanese sites except NOB's. LOL I kept telling myself that it couldn't be his for some reason. $%#Ninj2 Thanks for posting the link. You should post some picks of that city around the fishing village. It looks really interesting from what I can see of it.
Jacqulina,
Thanks for the offer. But looks like Asahi beat ya to it. LOL Thanks again for posting some really nice pics. Your stuff always seems to relax me. It always has a calming quality about it. ()stsfd()

Gaston
Yeah, I'd like to see the city around the fishing village too!! ;D The city isn't mine, it's just a sample screenshot from NOB's fishing village set download page.
But I just happened to post something of a similar atmosphere at "Show us your small towns" topic so check it out if you're interested. :)
LOL I just figured that out.
I was actually posting a reply over at the small city forum and lost it. I'll go back and repost it.

Shiftred, I really like your compact seaport. The two bridges add a great effect to the area. BTW, where did you get the gren roofed industrial building in the left hand side of the first picture? Thanks in advance if you can help.

Hello Asahi - I like the beach picture with all the small fishing boats ... and the nets set out to dry. It looks like a 'small fishing village along a stone pebble beach at low tide' and you've captured it nicely in that screen shot.

That harbor is looking very great, rooker1! Wonderful work!
Great job, rooker 1! I love the recycling centers next to the garbage docks!
i'm impressed with the pipework, i can never get it to look just right.
Very nice Rooker1.....very well thought out and extremely well executed....
oh..and ditto on the pipes
Thanks alot, it took alot of time to get the pipes to look like that. Build, destroy and rebuild again and again. Actually there is an entire section of that area I redid because of the way I put down the seaport, so it looks different now.
Very very nice seaport/shoreline
rooker1. I have a couple of questions though.
They are:
- In the "garbage dock" pic, Who's "garbage dock" is that?
- In the aforementioned pic, Who's seawalls (the breaker walls) are those?
- In the last pic, Where did all the pipes and refinery/oil transfer stuff come from?
This is some really great stuff.
---Gaston
very beautiful beaches TS, thank you

I initially thought it was Peg's garbage dock, but they look different. I'm not so sure about it though.
I do know that it must be, beyond a shadow of a doubt, Jeronij's breaker walls. I believe they are on the LEX.
I'm not sure where the pipes come from, although I have seen them before. Sorry. &mmm
The garbage dock is Peg's, and the pipes can be found here (http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=16150).
And threestooges, I really like the beachfront GLR.
Thanks bunches M and bwatterud. I have Jeronij's breaker walls. Hmmmm, mine never looked that good. LOL Guess I never really zoomed in on them to see what they look like up close. PEG's garbage dock, huh. I thought I had downloaded that but appearently I haven't. ??? I have been looking for those pipes for a while but for some reason I could never find them when I searched. %confuso Thanks again for the link.
threestooges,
Fantastic beaches. I really like the GLR along the beach. Great use of both. And it gives access to the beaches to everyone. Nice job.

As long as I'm at it, here's a port just across the bay. It's small, but then again, so is the town it serves.
very nice TS, i like that cargo ship.
Thanks Cali, the cargo ship at the top comes with the Vandy Shipping Company by pegasus, you can find it here (http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=17186) on the STEX, or in all probability at peg's site.
Show my bay.
A lot of vacant lots remain in this town.
It is because the building has not built any longer because the
reason exhausted the demand for industry.

Wow Jacquilina.....wonderfull area....I simply can't get over how detailed your work is....... This looks like one of those areas that I would love to go to in real life and spend hours walking around..... thanks for sharing &apls
Simply superb, what more can be said (aside from the astounding detail...which must not be that simple to accomplish). Great as always, but you always continue to raise the bar.
beautiful work

hmm.. shoreline... waterfront. same thing?
Well.. if it is, then here's a mini waterfront pic from my new MD: Tristania.
I like, very colorful.
cool Dfire ! ... an amazing harbor u got there
i'm wondering though where u downloaded that white passanger ( i think 'PCC') ship ? It looks amazing u know :)
greetings from Amsterdam
Thanks Alkaola. :)
That ship isn't actually a passenger ship, it's one that cars can be loaded onto. I got it from SOMY's site (I don't have the link, but someone else might.)
Oh wow, what amazing pictures here!
I love those harbours and seashores, because it's maybe I'm a lundrubber?
With your help I've found now a lot of great sea-stuff and I will try to make a port for myself....I hope I get something as beauty as I've seen on this thread! (and sorry for my bad english, don't read the mistakes I made espacially in grammatics... ::) )
A great contrast between the fantastic harbor from DFire870 and the colorful waterfront in Tristania by guurgkud! Awesome work, guys!
I recently created a new region and mapped out this great area to have a harbor in, but I cannot seem to find al of the great lots you guys used in you harbors and seaports and such? Could you suggest a good place to look and find those lots?
This post (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=749.msg20399#msg20399) in a port building tutorial has a ton of links to good stuff.
Wow that is a great tutorial, it covered pretty much everything, Thank you so much bwatterud!
Fantastic harbor @ both and also great pictures / work!
@guurgkud: That looks great, reminds me on the lago maggiore or lake garda in italy :)
Well, let's try a simple shoreline.

I'll post a couple of mine from my MD...

I thought the first was good when I saw it in the challenge thread. I like the way the 2nd is set up especially with the train station you selected (I like how the door lets people out across the tracks). There are a few parking lot connectivity issues, but that seems unavoidable. I particularly like the ballpark in the last pic. It seems like it is just set up to have balls sail out over the left field wall into the water (which seems helpful to have the marinas so close during the games). Good pics.
Thanks! It does look kind of silly with those cars parked in the middle of a pedestrian plaza, but I couldn't edit it out because the LE has been
giving me a lot of trouble lately. My inspiration for that ballpark was AT&T Park in San Francisco, overlooking the bay. I'm glad you liked the pics. :)
EDIT: Heh, my 100th post. &dance
Congratulations on your 100th. When you say AT&T, are you referring to (formerly) 3COM, formerly Candlestick Park? I ask only because I remember the name changed but I can't remember where it actually was located in the area.
No, I think he's referring to AT&T Park (formerly SBC Park (formerly Pac Bell Park)). ;D
So then where is the (originally named) Candlestick Park located?
Candlestick Park is in San Francisco. Here are the names:
Candlestick Park (1960 - 1995)
3Com Park (1995 - January 2002)
San Francisco Stadium at Candlestick Point (2002 - September 2004)
Monster Park (September 2004 - Present)
The San Francisco 49ers play there currently. The stadium by the bay that Barry Bonds hits home runs into is AT&T Park, formerly:
Pacific Bell Park (2000 - 2003)
SBC Park (2004 - 2005)
AT&T Park (2005 - Present)
Hope this helps!
That helps quite a bit, thanks.

Hello will_colorado!
I expected rather some mountains from you ;), but your terminal and refinery are very good.
One little notice: it's a good idea to connect pipes to smokestacks, but in real life such pipes are flue gas channels. It would be good to separate them from other pipes and make another kind of them (there are some pipeline sets in Simtropolis). However - who knows about such things? ::)
Today I'd like to show two pics from shoreline of Blue Coast city from Aurina Bay region
Awesome port flame1396. The bridge is a very nice touch and very realistic as well. Great work.

Fantastic seaports @ everyone!
flame1396, I really like your port! Especially the general view and the bridge. I hope You will show it again when you will build more :)
Some more views of my shoreline
Great new pictures of your shoreline, Ennedi! Nice work!
Thought I'd resuscitate this thread with a shot from my MD :)
not as good as everyone else's, but I tried to put a bit of time into it (mostly terraforming it).
Yes, still using Maxis seaports, but combined with some PEG industrial CDKs.
-Sober:
Your port looks really well done, and the Maxis ports look pretty good like that (I have nothing against them... perhaps aside from cost...but that can be changed). The time that you put in to it shows. I would, however, think about doing something with that high tension power pole. As far as I can see it's not connected to anything and (unless it was recently disconnected from the system) it is in too good of a condition to be an abandoned pole. It seems a bit awkward there, but that is the only thing that I would critique for changing. Well done.
So, I tried a port and started with a small one:

Wonderful pictures of the seaports @ all! Great work!
Excellent picture, Filasimo! I find building ports and waterfronts difficult on the diagonal, but you did it flawlessly. Great job!
thanks thundercrack for that great comment when i was designing it i had to do it old school planning the placement on a piece of paper it wasnt so hard to lot either bc i had to instances of LE running so i can toggle back and forth from what props and or textures i needed n such....im thinking bout releasing it if anyone is interested....i do need help on the modding part since i havnt modded capacity lots before only the technical parts such as item ordering and custom query modding....so if anyone is interested in modding the lots for me and or also would like for me to release them ill be more than glad to although would i have to ask permission from the creators of the props to release their work on my lots?
Filasimo, I too think creating a good looking harbour is very diificult on straight edges, let alone on a diagonal as you have. Great work and if you released these, I would use them very eagerly. Although I do have a suggestion, even though I don't know if it's possible.....but could you add some kind of over hanging diagonal prop with a fence to get rid of the jagged edges? Just a thought....
Robin &apls &apls
rooker: u know....thats what i keep on thinking about is how to get rid of those jagged edges, if anyone could help me with that then there may be a way

Yea I made many of those lots, but all the props and textures came from the wonderful exchange :)
&apls Bravo! Those are some awesome lots! Plan to release any by any chance, huh? huh? ;) If only I could get MY lot editor to work. for some reason, it just won't start.... &mmm oh well....
JonM, that's great! &apls &apls &apls
You said you used many styles here, but everything is very well composed! SC4 community needs this kind of creativity!
Btw, I think about learning LE from some time, but you forced me to do it now :D
Thank you for the kind replies :)
I would put them on the exchange but there are too many dependencies to sort through, maybe someday soon when I have some free time
&hlp
Wyldone, the LE must catalog all the lots and props in your plugin folder, it may take awhile to finish that task. Have patience, walk way and get a cold drink, when you come back you should have it up and running. Reducing items in your plugins will quicken the pace. I thought for the longest time my LE didnt work, but that was the routine. :)
WoW there is soo many great seaports here... many of congrates to you all that has had a great seaport or seaside shown here todate - pat

hi, i'm new here. can I just ask, near the top of the pic, how did you get such a soft, flat 'ramp' onto the bridge?
Quoteapeguy asked: how did you get such a soft, flat 'ramp' onto the bridge?
Hmmm, there are several ways to get that result. The way I do it is to use the "hole digging tools"'s ground lifter tool. I lift the ground close to the place I want to build the bridge. I place a few train zots on the top of that. Then, since I have a "slope mod" installed, drag a rail line out from the zots. This will make a gentle slope. Demolish the rail lines and zots. Now repeat on the opposite bank of the water. Now starting at the top of the slope connect a bridge. And there you go. Sorry I don't have any pics. I have dial-up and it takes forever to upload pics to post here. Hopefully you can follow my instructions.

Best. Port. Ever. Enough said. &dance
The layout is amazing, especially that bridge, I've never seen a bridge that realistic. $%Grinno$%
I love all the warehouses, and the ships too, everything looks great. I wasn't kidding when I said this is the best port I've ever seen.
Awesome port, Shadow Assassin!
Great pictures!
thanks Gaston
SA, that looks brilliant! where did you get those cool containers & those warehouses?
SA that is a awsome seaport OMG wow that is sooo stunning
this one will make big contrast with SA's one:

that's a nice town figui, I like the colors
A wonderful looking town, figui!
That's also a fantastic picture of your shoreline, urban!
Here are a few. Sorry they are PNG images. I cannot get Clip2Pic to work. It looks like it is but nothing actually happens. Sorry for the wasted bandwidth. Wish I could change um to JPG's.
And two more to show an unusual use of thes breakwaters. Can you guess how I did it?
---Gaston
nice pics guys, btw urban, where did you get that huge palm tree in that pic? :o
Good pics everyone. :)
Might I ask, Gaston, where you found that dirt track in your second pic, the one that looks like a landing strip or something?
I've been looking for something just like that. ;)

Travis,
It is the "CSX Rural 911 Center". I have searched around a bit but can't figure out where the heck it came from. LOL I thought it was from PEG's site but I just searched there and didn't find it. Same went for ST when I searched there as well. But that is what it is in my plug ins. I love it because it covers a large area with police, fire and medical. So it is great in rural areas. I'm not sure why I cant seem to find it anywhere. And I seem to remember that when I DL'd it there was a slew of dependencies. Well worth it though. If we can't find it out there, I might be able to send it to ya. I have dial up so sending any kind if files is a pain in the butt. Maybe someone else reading this will know where it is available from.
---Gaston
Thanks Gaston, I guess I'll have a look around myself. :) Have you tried the LEX?

Agreed. The lack of a realistic marina really annoyed me, because the default one is more of a pier for a small town than an actual marina.
ManuelR: Oh man im really loving that reminds me of San Pedro, CA

@threestoges:
Every picture has it's strong side, but the second one is the most attractive for me
It's a pity there are no Marina nightlights on the third picture, but I think they will appear if the city will grow :)
to be honest, i never really put much effort into my shorelines.... until i saw some of these pictures. WOW!
I might have to be a little more creative than just a few ferrys and marinas. &apls &apls &apls
Very nice use of the new lots from PEG, threestooges . I think they will be very welcome in any "wet" city. BTW, the little light house on the end. Where did it come from?
---Gaston
-Gaston: The ligthouse is actually made by mrbisonm: one of his nexis lots. It can be found on ST's STEX (http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=1801). I just added the small plop rocks that weren't already on the lot. He's made a great number of little lots like this that just let you put together some great custom scenes.

Hello all of good mayors.
This is my first post in the Picture's thread.
I made a little old japanese sea port. (Fishing village)
However, It is very difficult to make the scene in beautiful scenery. $%Grinno$%
You are really great, everyone !! ;D
Very well done. The village seems to jsut fit right in there and blends into the surrounding terrain. The only thing I would critique, is that the stacked cement things for the breakwater seem to be stacked a bit narrowly for the depth of the water (I know this is just a combination of the water mod and the design of the bat, but it seems a bit unstable). All around, those are some good pics.

That might be the long mosaic I have ever seen. There is so much small details in there that I don't know where to begin. I see soooo much custom stuff in there that I have never seen before. I think you must have phtotshoped the jagged edge of all the transit networks, right? ;)

Might want to fix those textures on the electrified rail, though. Aside that, its singularly the most amazing mosaic I've ever seen.
ejc... that mosaic pwns the hell out of any other one I've ever seen.
Excellent work with the pipeline sets.
It just keeps going... very well done. Each part of it has it's own little details and charm (like the police helicopter about 1/2 way down) as well as working well as a part of the whole. The only suggestion I have would be to edit out those little minimized toolbar buttons that popped up in a few of the pics. Very well done.
absolutely stunning :shocked2: :shocked2:

Not meaning to intrude on your personal conversations, but I wanted to make sure I got one up before forgetting--I rarely ever post pics, but I was halfway pleased with this one, so I figured what the heck. Anyways, just ignore me. :P
Whoops, forgot to re-size! Dang it. That's what I get for being an old man... ;D
Shanethemain, this picture is beautiful! &apls
Great composition, beautiful nightlights, this Chinese mall (I forgot it's name) looks fantastic!
Of course it would be good to see more lights around these skyscrapers, but anyway the effect is great
It would be good to see a bit more of this city... ;)
Thank you SO much, Ennedi!!!!!!!!!
I tried to apply some of your advice from the last time I posted, and I think it definitely made a big difference. And I was honestly suprised myself at how well Dmscopio's mall (Coco Park I think isn't it?) ended up (positioning/blending in with surroundings/etc.). Gizmo's incredible night mod really seems to bring out the best with all these amazing bats/lighting (some of the pictures TheTeaCat posted recently were stunning).
Also, I totally agree that there needs to be more lights around those buildings, but I am not exactly sure as to what method would be best... any suggestions? I had thought of using some of those tall highway light poles from the STEX, but I do not want them to intrude or block the view. I'm sure I'll figure something out though.
Anyways, I'll try and post some more in the future (perhaps not on the picture competition though--too much pressure :D), and again many thanks for the encouragement! It is a privilege to glean from the SC4 masters!!
Try to use light towers from the MIC Airport Pack (http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=13765&v=1). Light masts are significantly smaller than Highway Light Towers (both small and big). MIC airport lights have a concrete base and need some arrangement in the surrounding (if somebody knows lot editing, can remove/change it).
MIC lights have one specific feature: the light cone is higher than the mast ;) and it looks a bit strange on the open space. Bt if you use Gizmo's mod, it can look much better, because the light cone will be darker and probably it's upper part will not be visible. In addition, edges of the enlightened space look more soft in Gizmo's mod and big lights can look better than during the default night.
I had no time now to show it on pictures, but maybe I will try to do it during weekend :)
Thanks for the heads up! I will look into it and see if I can make 'em work for me. I definitely dig light cones
Well, its back to the drawing board! Catch up with ya later!
Cheers!

A large fishing port.
Yoman - that's a great mosaic, excellent quality, very good planning and a lot of interesting stuff - this mix of industrial and military lots and props is really great! &apls, and Japanese fishing port pieces look very well with them.
But tell me please, wha are these waterfront pieces at the end of the canal, including diagonal ones?
I'm going to assume you mean the ones with the little waffle like imprints (thats how I think of them).
They are from a Japanese site, SA showed them to me awhile ago. However Xiziz and I have extensively re-modded them adding the asphalt base textures and custom icons in the parks menu. Next time I see SA I can get the link for you or if you'd like I can share our redone version of them with you, as long as you make another fantastic waterfront in your MD ;D

Alright then, waterfronts and seaports have been one of the least developed parts of Solaria with usually a seaport and the odd beach just being it. However over time the shorelines are getting spruced up as more realistic docks and other water frontage is added.
Our main focus will be Solarian Point, located south of the capital Imperial Command Centre and housing Solarian Bay and 1/2 of Solarian Island, the Solarian Main docks are located here. The others being in Solarian Harbour - Solarian City to the east, South Solaria for the super tankers to the south west, Rangitoto Town - a small local dock due to be closed, Te Puke and Half Moon Bay on the Solarian River that deals with coal, gas, lumber and steel and the Imperial Command Centre/Tamaki Docks in the north of Solarian River that deal with general manufacturing as well.
Solarian Main Docks after construction. Surrounded by Penrose (south) industrial estate and connected by an extensive rail and logistics system, the Solarian Main Docks deal with 55% of Solaria's main dry goods as well as 1/3 of garbage exporting. No wet goods are dealt with here, Solarian City and South Solaria deal with those.
Somebody has to deal with trash.
Close up on part of the Solarian Main Docks system.

hi andreas, just thought i would add my 2 cents. just search for 'warehouse' at simtrop, they are props made by cogeo. what i really like about them is that they are also in a prop family which is great for randomness. hope that helps. :)

Masochist (Isaac): thanks for the link

Sadly I can't do anything about that :( But a former soviet port needs a sunken ship
WOW, Yoman that looks awesome, I love the shipwreck. Geez, now I wanna make a seaport ;D
Great work on that area of that wonderful mosaic, Yoman!!
Also your work is wonderful on that shoreline, tahill79!
Well, here goes. Have a shot of a gritty industrial area in Port Nixon, in the province of Sutherland.. well we have a shot if I did the right stuff with image shack....always an adventure.... ()what()

very nice, and I also like the mix of building you have....
Here's an industrial-style port that I've been working on lately. It was created on an artificial island, and yesterday I expanded it a bit more to accompany more industrial development.
very nice industrial area ky72x....I love building that kind of stuff...and you have captured it very well. &apls

also...what is that red building on the upper side of the canal? looks pretty nice

Masochist those are awesome pics of your seaport. You have a great wide collection of BATs. But in MHO you have mixed too many different types of LOTs in the same area. Your port could have been alot bigger if you had decided to spread it out a little more. Although it does still look very good. ;)
Robin
A work in progress regional shipping port. My first attempt at a port.
XD for your first attempt dannnnng that is goood looking port... Love the hugh biiiiig Crates there on some of them lots lol hehehehe

The red building you can find it here http://descargas.capitalsim.net/?sitio=csc&descarga=875 you may also want to check and download all JSTEED creations also available in the "Descargas" section of that site.

PS I've been using your slope mod since you unveiled it, and am a big fan of your MD!
Fantastic picture of that light house, Toichus Maximus!
Wonderful pictures of that area there and nice mosiac, too! Also great beach, Masochist!
I think this is where this best belongs. :-\
Wwecruz: That is awesome!!! Where would you say that's located, somewhere near Maine? Or is it more New England-ish? Either way, that is an awesome picture. I might even make it my desktop . . .
Thanks! That was my first time doing any real photoediting. I'd say it'd be by Virginia outside of the Chesapeake Bay area. I'm glad you like it! I also have a question. If I post that image here, can I post the same picture in the SC4 Picture Competition thread?

I've seen it done before, so yeah, I think so. You'd win with that pic, no matter who you went up against. Except me, maybe . . . :P
Thanks. I'm entering it once the thread is past page 535. Also, bring it!

Why are you going to wait for page 535? You can post it any time! The 5-page rule only refers to a single picture you post in the contest--you can't post
that particular picture again for 5 pages.
You, however, can post a different picture any time you want, as long as you don't go up against the picture you lost to. So go for it !
...Unless, you know, 535 happens to be your lucky number or something...

well it depends on your region, if it's on the atlantic or is it in the tropics. I use peg's water mods I think they are excellent.
You can find them on STEX.

And so the major harbor construction project has become. Much to the horror of any of the simmies living in this particular region, the Mayor has never constructed a harbor project in his career and despite his advisors urging has not sought professional contractors (Instead he is using some of his brother Vito's buddies) to at the very least give him a blueprint of a new harbor for his city. Only time will tell how this comes out.
Much to the Mayors delight, as he was instructing the work crews to start digging out the harbor a group of whales came up to see what was disturbing their home
Baby Whale got landlocked when the workers (Vito's buddies) were spending more time oogling the mayors new flashy car instead of keeping their eyes on the jobsite and eventually went poof and is now assumed dead, but a press statement was released stating that the whale population in the harbor area will survive this trajedy
The baby whale was more than likely rescued by a bunch of concerned eco folks.
Dinner time in japan. RIP little whale %confuso
thats a bit off topic LOL :D
this is quite a small port (port? maybe a landing or jetty)
Excellent. &apls
It's very beautiful.
i thought they hunt the wales for "scientific" reasons???
Is there an optimal height for the different sea walls to work properly? In my screenshot above I've found that the walls that I've created are way too high above the water and it doesn't look right when I apply some sea walls on them.
Also there must be something Im doing wrong when creating these walls as the sea walls that I apply don't line up properly even though they look to be pretty square AND finally, how do you get an inside corner to be square? Mine are always with an angle and no matter how small I make the god mode tool it can't get the inside corners to be squared up.
Thanks, Feel free to point me to a link to a tutorial on this, that's fine, I had a link but I've now lost it.
Sea plops should be at minimum level. this is the level that the default maxis seaport creates when you plop it.
To solve your alignment problem and the difficulty to flatten land under water when making corners, the sea floor must be flat and even.

Good work everyone! &apls
Well, here's some work i put in today to create a small town harbor for the fishing port of Napier.
I really like the strip of land everything's on. It really reminds me of this small fishing village near Monterey, Moss Landing. Everyone's looks great, can't wait to see such great work from such talented minds.
Great catch, the town is in fact based on west coast fishing ports. My main inspiration was Westport, Washington for a few qualities, but overall it could be similar to a lot of places on the Pacific coast.
Here's another shot of the rest of the harbor and the community's downtown.
great looking ports all!!!
Fantastic pictures of your work on your shorelines there, Dan & Fairlane500!!

MOD EDIT: Reduced picture size, because it was breaking the page, and linked to full size version -Fred
Good use of the FAR. The pic is elegant in its simplicity. Perhaps have a control building or something there, but overall it's a great pic. Perhaps something for the photo competition.

Here are some old pics from my seaside areas.
One aspect of sc4 that I didn't like was the steep shoreline,
so I discovered how to contour up/down slopes.
This allowed me to create beachside development without having to flatten the entire area,
plus I think it gives a more realistic look that allows different terrain levels:
Nice work on your areas there, @ both!
Home-made.. Hand-made.. Hand-terraformed...
Not developed YET.. But, I will... Yes, it is a recreation...
Who can tell me what region it is.... I can tell you; it's gonna be included in my MD :satisfied:
ejc: I would say either it's Amsterdam or Antwerp or mayby Hamburg. At least it's a harbour at the north sea. Anyway well done, hope to see it developed!
Anyway, all together excellent ports in here
Rotterdam?
well I can tell you what port that is considering I'm also semi-recreating it :P Though yours is more accurate, it will be harder to build. Rotterdam (The inner portion) of course! I've cut off after the port stops and the city begins, you've gone beyond that I see though.

yoman; you haven't got a MD of it do you?
and, yes.. I'm planning to build the city of Rotterdam aswell. Just to fill my time if i'm bored with making a port-city I will start making a city tile with suburbs and the downtown area..
I still need to terraform the port towards the north-sea. With all it's petroleum-ports and ECT (Container Terminal)
but, that will come in the future...

Ah so you are doing the Maasvlakte. I can't wait to see, and yes you can see the terrforming of my port in my MD PSSO, as the fake Port of Ossic is my version of Rotterdam, with a few changes, yours is more accurate. I do believe you commented on that update though and have seen it :P
aaah.. the port of ossic! I've seen that!!
I'm curious how you're gonna develop it; gonna be a hard work
and yes, I'm planning to do the "maasvlakte"

Wow, that looks very involved, ejc--Rotterdam must be awesome. I also really liked the west coast pics, Fairlane500. I was just out there last summer, and you have it looking very authentic. squidi, I just don't know how you get your pictures so clean, bright and clear, love your sunny marina! :sunny: Great work to Dan, bighead99, and billen, too.

FrankU it's some ship of hong-kong on simtropolis ;)
yes, the diagonal ships are made by cockatoo and are on simtropolis. the other large ships are made by jeronij, available here on the lex of course, and the white and orange ships are made by japanese batters, i cant remember where i got them though.

I like the rest of your port too.
Woo! Always great to see more cranes. The textures and models look really good. The only thing I could suggest is to make the red section less tall, it seems very thick. I really like the stairs and cables though. God anymore shots?

here's a few pics of mine...
(don't mind the writing on them - they were used for a cj elsewhere)
^^ Great harbour pictures newsimaddict and jmdude1
Sam Johnson, excellent 3rd BAT &apls Very impressive! I like the strong look of the crane :)
BTW, looks like everyone is making harbour cranes these days. After Peg and SMP you've joined the club as well. I think I'll get some serious concurrency with my newest project...
Great work, Jmdude1 and newsimaddict!
I like your ports a lot. Must have been an awful lot of LE-ing.....
PS, might it be posslible to share some files, like the floating ships that are not yet to be found on STEX, PLEX or LEX?
thanks for the comments everyone.
newsimaddict: nice pics of your small port. i like the backwards L shaped warehouse and your use of rocks and flora. the warehouses i used in my 2nd pic were made by jestarr. im not sure if theyre in a megapack or individual download. the warehouse with the peaked roof is part of a cotton warehouse bat he released and the grey warehouse is available in a few sizes and formats: small, medium and large sizes, all named something like sidebay warehouse and endbay warehouse. im not sure what pack they are in though. a search for jestarr on the lex should do the trick though.
sim-al2: i havent really thought about releasing anything. i am bad for using props from a lot of people so my dependancy lists would be huge and probably very random. i will look into it though, maybe some smaller lots would be ok, im not sure about the stats behind my lots though. i usually zero everything such as wealth, park and LM effects..etc.
frankU: all of these ships can be found at 1 site or another, just not indvidually. the ships are actually not too hard to make, with some practice. take a look here: http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=5145.0 there are also a couple of good links near the beginning of that thread that help a lot too.
trust me. I have almost every dependency known to man. I know where all the buildings are from too. the ones in the second picture are called Boyles Cotton in the game.
jmdude1: thanks for your answer. I did already read the topic on how to make boats that float.
On the other hand: is it neccessary that everyone does these tricks on his/her own?
I myself have not so much time to spend on SC4. If I am going to work with the PIM etc I cannot develop any city....
So I hope that one day someone who is really good at this subject will release a bunch of floating ploppable ships, boats, scows, barges, motorcruisers, fishing ships, yachts etc.
jmdude1: brilliant
Joe
thank you for all the comments and the critic :)
My cranes develop because I thought my port will look to dreary with only yomans cranes ( Idon't use Pegs cranes, because I mean their color is looking to gaudy. A crane is not going to clean every day ;D )
sim-al2: thank you. Well it looks a bit like as the stairs are hanging out in emty space , but its not so ;)
Yoman: thank you. I mean ist no to tall but I will try it with smaller asmaler red section
tag_one : thank you
jmdude1 and newsimaddict: your ports look great
Sam Johnson,
Sorry I forgot to compliment you with the great port and the beautiful cranes. I was too preoccupied by Jmdude1's floating boats and ships.
I have one question though: are the containers supposed to stand parallel or perpendicular to the shoreline? In other pictures I see them oriented differently.
B.T.W. you could consider to use Soulstealer's container lots
(http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=19554).
They look great and I think their colouring fits better to your cranes and ships.
Newsimaddict,
Beautiful work too! I'd like to see more of it.
Very seaport all &apls
FrankU:
I often use soustealers great lots . But I build mostly eurpean Citys (my favourit City is Hamburg) and there stand the Containers parallel to the shoreline. But You can decide how the container stand to the shoreline ;)
Edit: jmdude1 I have a little queston to your fishing port. Where did you get the wooden landing stage ? Thanks in advance :)
Taken while scrutinizing Cockatoo's new ships :)
Nice work there on this area! And also wonderful using of these ship! ;)
sorry sam johnson, i just saw your msg now. the wooden docks that i used were from the upgradeable seaport pack that was released here on the lex. these docks were made by jestarr and can be found in the LE by searching for 'wooden dock'. there are a lot of great boat/dock/waterfront props released with these seaports.
tag one: nice pic. cockatoos ships look good in your canal. diagonal ships are great to use. have you seen them at night yet? they have nice nightlights too.
jmdude: Thanks for the help. :)
tag_one : Very nice picture  I should try to use cockatoos ships, too.
Hi to all friends.. :)
This is a great thread , with fantastic projects from everyone.
I will try to post my own work , as soon as possible

Gongratulations to all artists!
nice piers jmdude1....perhaps i can use them...where can i find them? (http://imageshack.us)
hmmm, i can only point you in the right direction vetram. i know these piers, and boats were made by a japanese batter but ive had them for so long i forget who made them or where i got them. perhaps you could browse the japanese section of this site, or simtrop to find them. i know there are a lot of links here at sc4dev. to japanese sites. http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=361.0
sorry i couldnt help more, maybe somebody else can find out where they are.
edit: i found the files here: http://tokitoko.hp.infoseek.co.jp/lot.htm
unfortunately the pics are gone. there are 3 sets to download and they are all at the bottom of the page with the names fishingport, fishingport1 and fishingport2. just hover your mouse over the links to see the names of the files.

A few pics from my city of New Dublin... The first three are of Stadium Marina and the last one is Breakwater Charters & Lighthouse just west of downtown, all lots were redone to add additional props or to transit enable them and breakwater charters was shortened and new boardwalk lots created including using one side of Jeronij's shorter breakwater lots which I think look better the the the ones with the high wall. Praise to Jeronij, Simgoober, Pegasus and all others for there original creations.

I Love It! How were you able to get your corners perfect for seawalls or harbors?
Fantastic pictures there of your work, @ all! It looks really good...
Thanks for the comments everyone! bob56 in God mode I just used the flat level land tool, what I did was raise the land so all the water was gone then just start making corners and edges were I knew I wanted to place my Marina, Boardwalks, Embankments, etc..etc then lower back the land then I would start a city and experament with placeing my Marina, if I found I need to expanded the water mass I would quit out without saving so it takes you back to God Mode, it also helps to have a Map that has Harbor's and Marina's all ready in mind, I am using Blade2k5's NHP Hampton Roads Virginia Map which is HUGE! but I think has the perfect land to water ratio http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1781
There are several great tutorials on how to create Harbors and Marina's also, the following is just one..

Heres my small Seaport,
Port Humber
Yah first post of the New Year in the Show us your forum!
Really nice lots, Nexis! But where is the shadow coming from? The crane?
dsrwhat316, wow! Ambitious project, and a real high class look!
The crane lot.

Thanks @ all for your comments ;D
Here's another from me:
~ Dan
wow nice aquarium on the harbor there dsrwhat316! :)
Not so sophisticated as dsrwhat316. Very good work by the way!
More like an older port with different kinds of industry.
The southern part.
To the left the power plant with a small refinery next to it. A place for oiltankers to bring their products. Upper the still working old coal storage and processing. North of the highway the water treatment facilities. On the lower right the bulk dock. As you also can see the population needs some more housing... (working on it).
A bit more zoomed in on the watertreatment.
North of the highway.
Several small harbours for bulk and other random goods.
If you look closely you can see that the housing is built next to the new FAR puzzle pieces from the NAM 2009. Pity that not all tiles connect to the roads. After having taken these pictures I demolished the area....
A bit more zoomed in.
And another.
In an adjacent smaller town I have an old port that is almost not in use anymore. Parts of the docks have undergone reconstruction works and they are used for scows and their personnell having days off. Off course the scows should be empty, but hey, PEG made them like this, what can I do? And I also need to work on the buildings. I was more hoping for some unused mostrous old brick factory building like JeStarr makes them all day, but it would not grow!
The lower side is still used for small bulk goods.
so here's a marina of mine which I just about finished working on (mostly I guess). It'll be featured in my new CJ that will (hopefully) start sometime soon, after over a year of abstinance and planning the new one.
anyways, here you go:

they're plopped with the buildingplop cheat, just like the 2 condo towers. I wanted the area to look as authentic as possible and that's when plopping comes really handy.

FrankU, Suplado, dsrwhat316 - beautiful pictures guys! &apls
Suplado, did you make PEG's boats ploppable?
Adam
Beautiful marina's!
Meanwhile I have been working on one also. I'll show it this or next week. Not completely satisfied yet....
And, Suplado, if indeed you made them ploppable, would it be possible to release them? You'd make me happy.

Great to see you're having fun with my container port stuff :)
I need to check your CJ again suplado. Apparently, I've been missing out ;).
Suplado: beautiful work! Nice editing of the image too. A real romantic look, though you could ask yourself if this is appropriate to a seaport. Anyway: SC4 is about dreams, so I agree if you say that everything is allowed.
Tag_one: your cranes are beautiful. I really should do some lotting with them, but I didn't find the time to do so.
Dan - your work really is amazing. Fantastic work on a beautiful and one-off water pier set. &apls
@dsrwhat316: Amazing as usual. :) But shouldn't the glass facades of those buildings face to the water, instead of the street? I wouldn't be very fond of seeing my neighbors across the street through the living room windows all day. ;)
Suplado, your seaport is awesome (as always) &apls!
Dan, I realy like your pics, the texture of your street plus de choice of BATs push me to build another seaport in my city . BTW, where do you get those diagonal red pavement lots and the seawalls that go with them ()what()?
@ Andreas: Heh, that's the way those lofts grew. I could make them into props and make Lots to orient them properly.
@ Une_ame: The red texture is a base texture; using diagonal overlays from one of jeronji's dependency packs is how the diagonal effect is achieved. Seawall lots can be easily created in the Lot Editor by using land tiles and having the lot properties conform to a slope, much like the Maxis grass park.

&apls beautiful work dan (as usual :))
Great work Dan! &apls I must find some time and take a closer look at your MD!

Wow, that´s one heck of a marina, I wonder how long it would take for me to find my boat in there?
Probably quite some time given how long it takes to find my car at the local mall´s parking lot after shopping... ;D
I realy like this shoreline, almost finished on the terraforming, i might even build something here, or maybe i leave it like this.

one question is:
is this the industrial port set by barbyw right?
are they functioning normally in your game?
if i save the game after ploped them on the shore... i cannot go into this city again because it will crash me out when finished loading the city's .sc4 file :'(
I can not help you.
I do not know you know why this is happening with you with me everything is working normally
fighter_jingyu,
It sounds as if you have some kind of functional seaport in your plugins folder, but with something not correctly installed.
The files in Neofita's pictures (very nice ones indeed!) look like BarbyW's BRT_Wimps files. These are ploppable files with only eyecandy effect. Not even jobs they have! (BarbyW, wouldn't it be time to add jobs to these lots?)These will never crash your game.
Take a close look at the files you have in your plugins and if you have some functional seaports installed take a very very close look at the readme files!
Nice shorelines everyone . Your shoreline looks interesting danielcote ;).

Yes it's a very strange thing i met. Yeah there are several functional seaport in my folder but they work well as their controller file installed. And i do understand the BarbyW's works are not functional ports and just some eyecandies,
but somehow, they just cannot let my game goes well...
once i only put them and their dependency into the plugins folder, start a new city, plop one of these lot,and save... and then when i reload the saved city,it jumped out as usual..
it's a pity :'(
Well, I am flabbergasted.... Have no idea what could be wrong. Maybe some of the more educated people on this site can be of help?
@fighter_jingyu,
I can't help you too - I'm sorry! But I didn't use BSC seaports yet. You should report your problem in the BSC Functional Seaports Support Thread (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=4969.20). Even if your seaport is not functional, I think this is the most apropriate place to help you to solve your problem. All BSC Seaports creators are looking at this thread.

Nice little harbour jpj_starfleet &apls
THE GROZNIJ POLYARLYY SOVIET SEAPORTBuilt in the 30's by the government of Staline, Groznij Polyarlyy is one of a dozen
military seaports in the Barents Sea. He was reserved to the North Fleet of U.S.S.R.,
principally submarine.
This huge military base, since 1987, was abandoned by the Red Army, and today we
can see the old submarines and ships stagnating in the water. The international
organizations are doing the necessary to destruct all those shipwrecks washed up on the shore.
The difficulty is that there is hundreds of submarine bases dispersed all over the
Russian Coast, and today we can't find all of them without taking around 10 or 15
years.
Today, there is just the town, who lost a major part of is citizens. The other part is surviving, but the town is
controlled by russian gangs, and alcohol is the most popular product.
Most of the submarines abandoned today in Russia contains nuclear reactors, so
they are still really dangerous for wildlife conservation.
Here's some photos of Groznij Polyalryy:
The old submarine base, still here today, abandoned since 1987...
The old aircraft carrier
Novorossiysk, waiting to destruction (in 1996, 19 years later)...
beautifull work everyone, allthough these pics have waterfalls im showing the shoreline.
Wonderfull! No roads, houses, just grass, threes and waterfalls... And really beautifull country! I like it!
Here's is my real seaport (i did Groznij Polyarnyy just for the photos and the fun).
Real name: Andarjik, military zone for the Dalgan Fleet (my country: Dalgania).

Nah. The ship Yamato is just there for tourism. Plus it looked cool there.
The Yamato in futurist version, no?
Yes. It is based off a WWII Japanese Yamato class battleship.
My first (real) try at a seaport:
It's only 1/4 of the whole seaport,
please criticize :)
Fabian
The only critique I have as that your not using my container handling stuff :D
But seriously, wonderful image Fabian! I really like the color in your shot
Spectacular!!!
moin Fabian93,
great detailing ... think you've done a great job on your seaport!
would like to see the other part, too! ;D
b_schlurf
Yes please! Show us the rest. This part looks promising enough.
hello there. im having trouble with beautyfyng my sea ports. i need an open paved area that matches the paved area of my docks. where can i download an open paved area? thanks.
Hi Francispacheco,
First of all welcome to our community!! I'm sure you'll have a great time over here and we are looking forward seeing pictures of your cities :)
I'm not sure but I think there are some paved area lots on the STEX at Simtropolis.com. How ever this will require quite a search and success is not guaranteed. I think the fastest way is to create those lots yourself with the lot editor. Than you'll certainly get the result you're looking for ;)
If you don't have the loteditor yet, you can download it from the official SimCity site :)
... or from here: CLICK ;) (http://www.sc4devotion.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=41&Itemid=)
Thanks for the comments, really appreciated - glad you all like it :)
Well, when I said it's just 1/4 of the whole port I didn't mean that I've build the full port yet, it's not even fully terraformed :P
tag_one - don't worry I'll use them on another part of the port, and I'll also use the refinery lots (or the complete lot, as I don't know how to build a good looking refinery myself) near by the oil tanks
This is everything I've got so far, maybe need to rework some parts of it, though &mmm
The arrows show the expansions of the port (you'll probably won't understand, since it's not really informative)
Fabian
Hi Fabian,
your seaport looks great und very interesting. Maybe the position of tho oil pier is a little bit dangerous.
I think i have to pay more attention to the container stuff from tag_one.

Looks wonderful Fabian! I'm sure this will become a great port when finished. &apls
If you want some inspiration for your oil refinery I suggest going to this place in Google Earth: "Vondelingenplaat Netherlands" A large Dutch oil refinery is situated over there and in google earth you get a nice idea of the size and complexity. ;)
BTW: which water mod are you using? I like the color of it!
That's a wonderful port you have there Fabian, I really like it ! &apls Just a thing, it looks like there too much crane at the point where you used SOMY's port facility, but you can't do anything to that thought.. &mmm Except that little detail, I really love that port ! You can put at right some bulk area ! ;)
Merijn, I think that water texture is one of Dogfight's pack ! ;)
WoW it's a very cool seaport but you have to use some buoyz ??? Boats use that see how deep the water is in the discription stands how to use it. All ports, sea, canals have buoyz so you need to use it
but a pretty cool port
Thanks for your reply Arthur, I'll have a look when I'm at home :)
Here is something I've been working on. I usually just follow the natural coastline, so this one is a bit of a change for me, figured I'd share it.
excellent work everyone &apls &apls

Indeed a nice port. I like the large railwaystation/area (show us some details please?) and also the block of storage facilities next to the railway area and soulstealer's cranes. You did a lot of LOTting, I guess! &apls
Yes, plenty of custom lots, all based in design off Tag_One's container terminal.

one suggestion: your port needs some trucks to run around, and some workers too..

It is a very nice little port. I like the combination of warehouses and small industrial stuff. It is not completely clear what kind of goods are carried around in this area and that is exactly how seaports look to me...
Also the small fishing port is nice.

Into a tunnel by the large building.
I'm looking for some lots for container terminals, specifically, the yards full of containers in rows. I have SN's container set, but I'm more interested in the sets I'm seeing that have the tracks between rows....
Also, one other thing, when using SOMY's seaport lots, how are you all transitioning them to others, like say PEG's CDK3 SP lots?
HConline,
I advise you to take a cloes look at Soulstealer's Port realism Pack at the STEX:
http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=19554
And what do you mean by transitioning? You want to combine SOMY's lots with PEG's lots in one seaport?
I use Soulstealer's and PEG's lots for the real large terminals and I use SOMY's containercranes for the smaller container terminals: like where riverships dock to load and unload their containers.
Is that something you wanted to know? Otherwise, please elaborate on the question you have here.

No, more like what lots do y'all use to change from SOMY's to PEG's visually. It's a tad annoying for me, because all the waterfront lots have their docks extending different amounts off the shore line. For instance SOMY's docks, some overhang a whole tile into the water, while others only stick out a quarter of a tile. PEG's are all a uniform one tile overhang, but it doesn't match SOMY's overhang...
That's what I mean. And thanks for the link to Soulstealer's stuff, just the thing I was looking for.

Ah, now I see. The answer is quite simple: I don't. I just put them next to each other. In real life seaports aren't always attractively designed with outlined piers either.
Off cours, you could put something in between like a small pier or put them around a corner. But basically, I just plop them regardless if they fit.

Great pic Andreas! I like the shoreline a lot! Which water mod is that?
Your friend,
Jordan
Thanks! :) The water mod the first water mod that was ever made, joerg's water mod (available at the STEX), together with Cycledogg's Columbus Terrain Mod.
not completely finished, but it's a hawaiian style Island :-\
I'm from Hawaii. It looks good, except for the lack of beach access from the hotels.
Waikiki has a small breakwater for a section of beach without waves. If you have room...
Thanks Andreas! downloads ;D. Nice pic Delta!
Andreas, is the Columbus Terrain mod responsible for that beautiful grey rocky beach?
Quote from: SeanSC4 on April 21, 2010, 10:20:58 AM
Andreas, is the Columbus Terrain mod responsible for that beautiful grey rocky beach?
Yes, this should be the default Columbus Terrain Mod beach. IIRC, I tweaked the Terrain Exemplar file a bit to get a better transparency for the area where the water waves touch the shore, but everything else is Cycledogg's work. As you might have guessed already, I also plopped some small Maxis rocks along the beach (not sure who made those ploppable, but I think I got them from the STEX or the LEX) for even more realism.
Recently I started to develop my First Label Container Terminal. It is the first of at least three large containerterminals in my enourmous seaport city.
The terminal is based on Tag_One's Container port lots (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2075) from the LEX. He released two lots and that was not enough for me to make this terminal, so I fired up the LotEditor and lotted some more. Here's the result.
What do you think? If you have comments, please reply in my Lot Thread (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=9146.0).
My aim is to add more container terminals. One based on Pegasus' work and one on Soulstealer's work.
I'll show you when I got something.
Just a sim-sim-simple seaport :)
@FrankU: Nice work on the terminal! Maybe change the sidewalk texture though?
@Terring7: very simple ;D
-Jordan
Canyonjumper,
Yeah, the sidewalk is awful, you are right. But I don't know what to do, or how to do it.
I am not aware of a sidewalk texture that resembles the lot texture, and to re-edit the lot into the Maxis sidewalk texture would look a bit out of place....
Just an idea FrankU...perhaps you could give this asphalt sidewalk texture a try:
http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=17351 (http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=17351)
It might not match exactly, but I gotta believe it will look better than your current sidewalks, which stand out a lot and not in a pleasant way. Great port though! Your lots make the difference. Looking forward to the finished product when your vision for the whole thing comes together.
@ Cubby420: Aha, thanks. I tried it. It is a bit better. It fits perfectly with the SC4 basic industrial asphalt texture (probably SAP23 did use this Maxis texture). So if I edit my containerport to that texture I will have a perfect fit. But, sorry enough, I like the base texture I have now much more, so I guess I will have to stick to it for the time being. Maybe I will ever find out how to make my own sidewalk modd with this texture? Would there be a tutorial on this?
Just felt like posting something. ::)

I second that request. I would be particularly interested in the bushes of several tones of dark green. They imprint a very realistic look to the landscape. They are not part of the MayorMode flora (Pegasus, ChrisAdams) that I know of.

Tomas Neto, your mosaics are amazing. We keep scrolling the screen down and the impressive combination of variety and details seem to never end.
After a little modding (turning them water compatible), BuddyBud Highway walls seem quite good as seashore conforming walls for places you don't want either an industrial or a marina look, or a beach. It has no problems with diagonals, curves or swinging seashores. The inset figure shows details of the upper right side of the main figure from a different angle. (I admit I am an enthusiastic fan of that rock block texture created by Jeronij.)

I disagree! It looks great the way it is. As marsh implied in his post not having to use photoshop is a sign of a great picture!
What about something more tropical?

Cape Coronado:
One of the inlets.

There are some stunning pics here everyone &apls
I have been experimenting with some of the newer MMPs that have been coming out lately.
Up until now, one of the problem areas for me has been the transition of the beach zone to land. These inter-dune areas have very scruffy-looking, tough plants with silver/brown/olive sort of foliage and there has generally been a lack of such stuff until quite recently.
mattb: I've found that girafe's new cattails on the lex make for great tall beach grass.
Also, great work. It looks great. :)

Ultimate revival !
Here's a picture of a coast road.
Time to revive this thread with a little bump. I'm just getting into heavily modding SC4 after playing pretty much stock for about 6 or 7 years now. Been going through a lot of the forums getting ideas on what to do. Currently I am working on a bridgebuilder's and seaport nuts dream region - New York City I got from STEX with all of Staten Island.
I am curious: I have a bunch of different seawalls I have been using and they work great for my coastlines but not for sunken area's. Can't seem to find a nice sunken hwy wall to use with RHW. Also, I absolutely love the Petroleum/LNG ports I see here but I can not seem to find them anywhere. Most everything I am using on my current SP project is of the PEG CDK series - which isn't bad at all! I seem to have multiples of one dependency because after I build a good section and restart the game it is instant CDT when I go into that particular city.
Anyways you guys are all very talented and can't wait to show off my creativity and compare. Keep it up guys and gals and have fun!

Mas71 has some great walls for sunken areas, but I don't recall that seawalls work with sunken areas(highway or rail) because of obvious reasons. His work is available on the STEX under Mas71. Good luck

Great and realistic oil port, solsystem! I liked a lot the part with the two solar power plant at the end of the pier.

actually all three are properties of Koko island government (and in turn of Koko's Navy) ;D
i've written the island's history for a forthcoming mayor diary that still hasn't seen light; so the three battleships would be Nagato itself (acquired as a war prize from Japan and never blown up in 1946 Operation Crosroads), the fourth unnamed Yamato-class (acquired and completed by Koko goverment after the war instead of beign scrapped in 1942 to make way for more aircraft carriers) and USS Kentucky (acquired from the US and completed in 1958). the only ship still in commicion is Kentucky (after beign modernized in the 80's and again in the early 00's), the two others are museum ships (the yamato was retired in the early 90's but Koko's Navy keeps her mantained and seawhorty so it could be reactivated if needed).
Yes, it can be cold on Mars. Is that genuine CO2 snow?
No, it's not dry ice ;)
Thank you FrankU!

A test of mine. I'm starting to use more MMPs, and so I decided to start with this:
I'm not quite happy with how the trees turned out, but this was only a test. I'm happy with how the boating part of the image turned out, though.
Nice work to everyone else here, very inspiring. :)
Ha ha... another 'builder' joins the dark side of flora ()flamdev()
I think you have a good start going there! 'Painting' with MMP's is really all about practice... the more you play around with the different options, the more you will discover what works together (and what doesn't). Don't be afraid to experiment!
@metasmurf: that is an awesome mix of C.P./Glenni/Pegasus
Looks nice, sim link. I would keep the lilies closer to the shore, though. Mixing in the vip cattails is usually a winner, too.
Cheers

I'm actually seriously enjoying it - a nice break from city development - so much so that I am considering starting a side-project CJ dedicated to random work with MMPs and things outside by normal playing style. I'll have more pics soon. :)
Working on the inland seaport off Tilburg, at my new region.

Hi all
This is my first image upload! Its a small part of a port I have been working on for ages now!
Very nice seaport recently! your inland seaport looks quite realistic, Paul! And you've done a nice work on yours, Nige, I know what is it to work for ages on one area, the result is fantastic! [one advice though, change the water mod :P ]
Wow! That's a great port! You certainly got the scale right, and a good many railyards, too. Would love to see more of it.
I recommend PEG's brigantine (http://www.simpeg.com/forum/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=48%22), by the way. Goes very well with all kinds of terrain/climate.
Cheers
Willy
Indeed, Nige and Paul, both very interesting seaports. Claps! &apls

By all means, please do :D
I'll echo what's been said already--great job with the port area and nice use of rails &apls It's huge and seems well thought out and well put together. I've never built a real port and I'm always on the hunt for ideas
I'll differ in what I suggest for water though. As long as you're upgrading your water you might as well upgrade the whole terrain/rock/water/beach package and check out one of the modern, awesome terrain mods that include the rest of the package. I'd recommend Gobias' Berner-Oberland Terrain Mod or Lowkee33's Appalachian Terrain Mod, depending on what kind of look you prefer for your region. Both come with excellent water, rock, and beach mods and both can be found on the LEX. Another advantage of these is that they have different water transparency settings so you won't be able to see 45m/150' down into the water. You can always switch to a different water mod later and still keep one of those nice terrain mods. If you're looking for only water I'd suggest Brigantine 2.0, found on the STEX, which recycles the old PEG textures but renders them in HD (looks good in zoom 6 and has more detail) and comes in a variety of colors. Drunkapple/dobdriver also has a number of good waters mods on the LEX and STEX.
Sorry to ramble at length, I'm a bit of a terrain mod evangelist ::)
Also, I hope you'll consider starting an MD in the future!
Wow again! This reminds me a lot of my home town's port (and the place where I work) (linkie) (http://tinyurl.com/c8pdsnx). Good job!
Cheers
Willy
@Noah - thanks for the direction on the diffeent terrian and water mods. Will take a look over the next few days and try and install them. From what i have seen on other peoples build it makes a big asthetic difference!
@Swordmaster - thats a good looking port area! I love the winding river estuary ships need to take to get there! Bet you have some serious tugboat action! And not too far from Rotterdam either! I have to admit to pouring over Google maps of Rotterdam when putting my port together!

Wow what a great view of your city. Everything looks so good even the tallest buildings are listed in the best way in this hilly terrain, as in Hong Kong. And the ports just do not have words
I really like how this area turned out, so I wanted to show it off. In retrospect, I wish I had got some traffic on the streets for the picture. This shoreline is about the largest flat area I've got, so it seemed like a good place for some highrises. Any thoughts?
jonno: i think your pic looks great. the highrises look good and not too overwhelming which is easy to do.
i agree, some (lots perhaps?) traffic would help with realism. how about trying some MMPs? there are a lot of beach and water MMPs which would add a lot of action to your nice beach and waterfront.

But with some criticism you can only improve yourself. So here I go:
I think the second to last image is not so good. The oiltank can have a relot with the grunge base texture and I think the shoreline should be more rectangular. I don't think any harbour authority would spend so much money on corners and diagonals.

The port area of El Astillero, that means "The Shipyard" in Spanish. In the past, large shipyards were there, but eventually closed, and now a huge industrial port takes its place. Hope you like it.
One of the container terminals.
Another container terminal.
The petroleum harbour, fuel storage and the refinery, at the right, LNG and dry bulk piers.
In the port mouth, the West Dike that serves as cruise terminal.
A view of the whole area.

PD: Sorry if there are any mistakes or the size of the images are too big.
Nice job !! I like the shape of that port. Are you thinking to create a MD?
Saludos
That harbour is huge!!! Looking forward to seeing more!!!
Well, first of all, thanks for your support. El Astillero covers a whole city tile, and I've been working on it a lot, specially in the terraforming. I'm not gonna make a MD, I haven't got much time for creating a beautiful, landscaping region, simply, I play my way. I will show pictures in the "Show us your..." section if I make something cool, but actually, El Astillero is one of the few cities in my region that is finished, so I prefer making the rest and showing some shots.
I'm going to post some more pictures. El Astillero also has a Navy base, but i prefer to show it in the correct post.
Here, the major avenue meets with the freeway in a T interchange. Note the dirty factories everywhere. I filled almost every area with dirty inustry, because i wanted the port to have a dirty and industrial look.
At the other side of the highway, there's a residential zone where all the harbor personnel lives.
I love how the petroleum facilities look at night... I filled every gap at this zone with a fire station when a fire blowed up my first refinery... Now El Astillero has 34 firefighter trucks ONLY in this part of the port!
Well, we're not talking about an ecofriendly city... ;D
My first try with major mode plopables. I tried to make a small beach near the factories with a forest. At least the city has a green spot!
Here the power plant that provides electricity to the city and some pollution, too.
A shot of the port mouth. At the left, the West Dike, and at the right the Military Dike, that is part of the Navy Base. (Actually, the West Dike is looking North, so it should be called Noth Dike, but in my home city, the biggest dyke of the port is called "Dique del Oeste" (West Dike in spanish) and I called it "West Dike" as a tribute.
And finally, a night shot of the same spot.
Hope you like it!
¡Saludos!

HI, I think "show us your..." threads can be bumped right? Anyway, I was happy with this shot, and in particular the tool by xanepann (which was just introduced to me by mgb). I am starting a new region and was determined to have some realistic looking sand hills:
^^That is a nicely done beach area! may I know how do you create the sandy hills?
Thanks Nanami, glad you liked it. ;)
I'm over the moon with this sand effect - it has limitations but has filled in a huge gap in my usually coastal oriented regions. It is one of many effects within the pack (most of which I'm yet to experiment with). They appear in your water menu - read the readme:

My apologies!
For the harbor, I used the NBVC Marina set, posted over at Simtropolis (several files from this author):
https://community.simtropolis.com/profile/201408-nbvc/content/?type=downloads_file
This set brings the marina piers, small watercraft and sea walls (ortho, diagonal and smooth curves). They're quite versatile, and can also be used overland for other creative visual effects.
In the meantime, gonna bring more seaport goodies!
