Hello,
my name is Fabian and I'm from Germany.
In this MD I will show you Laon.
Why Laon?
Well when I started with a new region I didn't know how to call it - so i called it Laon, because that was how Lohne (my hometown) was called over 1000 years ago  &idea, when it was first mentioned (it was in 980 to be exact!). However it has nothing, really nothing to do with my hometown (maybe I might recreate some real places of Lohne though).
Everything you see has been in work in the Lot Editor at least once. This MD is my first try at the Lot Editor, but I'm happy with it and I try to improve my skills with every update.

Here's a first teaserpicture:

Click on the picture for a full sized image (1024 x 768).
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg155.imageshack.us%2Fimg155%2F1967%2F1laonpicmf2.jpg&hash=c6222f911e3d135772c83243849a896a54081f22) (http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/4208/28540091ew6.jpg)

Hope you enjoy my MD :)

Stay tuned,
Fabian

Fabian, I'm a big fan of custom Lotting MDs and I'm sure, your MD will turn out to be a very good one as well.

The first picture is pretty good (nice choice of buildings!). Though, just for my personal taste I think the use of porkies chains is a tad too extensive... and maybe using streets along with the roads as well might spruce it up even more. But that's really just my personal taste, most important always is, what you like  ;) And don't put yourself to much under pressure when it comes to updating... RL's always first.  :)

This is a nice teaser, Fabian.  I look forward to seeing your next update, as well as your lots.  I do plan to follow Laon.

Fabian,

Excellent start from the gate, this is a great picture! I think your editing of the picture enhanced it so I would say keep up with the touch ups of the pictures. As for school, friends, homework and other things, put those second on the priorities and SC4 #1 ;D I am just kidding, whenever you have the chance to do more know that I will be anxiously waiting.

praiodan: Thanks for being the first poster in my MD. Yes, maybe you are even right. The use of PK's chains is pretty extensive so far, but since your post I've already been working on that. I'll now try to have a higher variety.
metarvo: Thanks alot!
projectadam: Glad to hear you liked my editing in contrast and lightning. Thanks!
Simpson: Thank you :)!

Update #1

Today I will mainly show you pictures at night and a Lot I am working on as I'm writing. I still need to find out how to make a good update, but I hope you like the way I do it  ;).

Update #2

Today I have 2 pictures and 1 request for you. Not many pictures.. huh? BUT I have a cool mosaic for you, which is worth to look at in my opinion. You decide yourself  ;). To be honest: I know that there's a great tutorial for mosaics by ilikehotdogsalot if I remember right.. however... I don't have Photoshop, so I did it with GIMP, and there I don't know how to save a mosaic in several small pics - so I had to save it as one large pic. Please give it some time to load...
And yep, I know the last update was just 2 days ago, but I just had to post this mosaic, since I'm pretty proud of it and it seems, that I won't have much time this week for SC4.

Click on it: (1024x3000)
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg201.imageshack.us%2Fimg201%2F7660%2F9mosaicsmallip0.jpg&hash=07719d177a585773873ab06cf9cdcabbc8226539) (http://s6b.directupload.net/images/081123/tgyxfho9.jpg)

The Government of Laon is proud to present you the flag (pretty simple though) of Laon:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg526.imageshack.us%2Fimg526%2F668%2Fflagge1lm8.jpg&hash=2b8639720705995c93fa8bec956edd98d1723635)

It was inspired by the flag of Lohne:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg140.imageshack.us%2Fimg140%2F209%2Fbild030cr0.jpg&hash=59450e77da4c20d89fc2bda690cd2da7c569a053)

Now to the request  :D :
Could somebody please make the flag of Laon as prop for the Maxis Lot Editor, so that I can place it on my government buildings  :)?? If you can do that, or know somebody who could do that, please write it in this thread or write me a P.M.

I hope you like the flag and the mosaic,
Fabian  ()stsfd()

Update #3

Oh well... hm not many replies in my MD - what's wrong? Maybe I do something wrong with my presentation, or is the city just not your style? Hope to see some new faces here!
Well, now to update 3 - i had 2 tests this week (2 hours Biologie and Art). Finally the week is almost over (friday is left though). So i have some time to show you some updates  :-\
Ok here we go!  ;)

Update #4

Uh... another update. I guess my MD is the only one with already 4 updates in 11 days. But I'm still in the rules with that I hope.
Well, what will you see in this update?
You will see the region around the Foreign Ministry of Laon here. You remember when I posted a screenshot of it in Update #1? Well it's finally ready, BUT I wasn't able to make them transitable  :'( :'( .. Why that? The SC4Tool said: Error - Couldn't read that file or something like that. Maybe somebody knows?
Anyway - I'll first show you the lots, then the lots placed together in game and then a before-after shot.
Enjoy it.. or not.  ()stsfd()

Lot1: The little seaport for the rich people of Laon..  ;D

I think I got alot of work done in this update. Took me some time to finish this. I'll hopefully see you in the next update (#5 already) for more "lotting-adventures"  &Thk/(.
Oh and... The Government of Laon wants YOU to build your embassy in Laon. Please write me a P.M if you want to build an embassy  :).

EDIT: I will not work on something new in the next updates, instead I will relot every Lot that has been placed in my city so far - more details could be added, and that's what I'm going to do!

Hope to see some replies and I hope even more, that you enjoyed this,

Hi Fabian
And a great looking MD you have started, lots of detail and you are making an effort to make something special.
Nice to see your work in the LE as well.
The people props have certain cycle of showing up, you just have to wait for the right moment to make your pictures.

Update #5

Well... another Update. Sorry, you might find this unusual, I don't know, but I want to capture the whole process of lotting Laon and the region around it...
This time I'll show you another mosaic. Nothing new, but those who also look for details in MDs might find this interesting, I added way more detail to some Lots and removed some PK Chains and so on (thanks again to that advice, praiodan). I think it's worth to watch the picture in full below. Also, please give me some advices in:
- detail
- realness (if that word doesn't exist - you know what I mean  ;))
- looking.
Only with constructive posts I can improve! ;)
Thanks...
Hope you like it:

Hi, today is not really an "update-day"..  ()sad()
I just came here, to say that I will try to rework on Laon and to completly change the look. I think, that the way I worked on the Lots till now just don't seems to be right. I will try to rework on the whole city-layout.
You will see what I've done in probably 2 weeks.

Did you mean this? That's just a simple Lot, done with the LE. Afterwards I transit-enabled it.  ;)

Pat: Thank you. It's always great to hear such words, thank you!  :)

And here's a teaser of a building I'm working on as I'm writing. I'm not sure if it will be placed though... seems so giantomanic (if that word exists).

Teaser - Update? - Soon

A teaser  %wrd ...
Well, I'm currently working on a parisian block. I love having different blocks. My aim is, to have different blocks in Laon of different countrys. I want german, french, dutch, american, and so on, blocks. It should be a city of many different nations (though it depends on, if I find enough buildings of a certain country... and the first quarter, the french one, has definatley enough, by Porkissimo and xannepan. Eventhough I think you can't use every Porkissimo building as prop  &mmm.
By the way, geoffhaw was so nice, to make the Laon flag as prop. You will see the flag in use in the next update.
Well, so here's what I have so far of the parisian quarter. Not much, but well... see you again soon.  :P

Notice, that the Lots have more detail than that, they're just hidden, you could see them from another perspective.

Update #6

Yeah, already Update #6...
I planned to show you the parisian quarter today, but it isn't finished yet, so to keep this thread updated, I'll present you a new mosaic. As I've said, Laon has been rebuild. I didn't like the previous looking, though there were parts, that I've liked, too. Those have been rebuild with some little changes.
I hope you enjoy this mosaic - see you for the parisian quarter in the next update.
Oh and I don't know, if that lightning-effect looks strange, I just thought it looks cool.

Lovely work, Fabian. I wish I had the patience (and time!  :D) for such excessive Lot-workings. How you arranged the highrises along the waterfront, reminds me a little of Cologne and it looks simply fab!
One idea, which I particuarly like, is that you put that one building complex together out of that one japanese bank (?) building and put a garden in the center court. I might pick this idea up in future developements  ;D

Hello Fabian,

It is my first visit here and I like what you are doing very much.

I enjoy your pictures of the LE works and then seeing the lots in-game.  The way you have built the lots and put them together gives the city a real "flow" to it - everything flows smoothly from one to the next.

When I saw all the billboards - at first I thought you were using too many but then I looked again and realised that there are not too many - it's just that there are so few in other MDs.  Your billboards give Laon a nice realistic touch.

The French quarter is looking good and I look forward to seeing the others - I will have to locate some English buildings so that you can also build an English quarter  ;)

As for the amount of comments and posts you are receiving - try not to worry too much.  As more people come here and see your work then they will come back and word will spread.  Keep doing regular updates and showing the quaity you have so far and maybe you will be given an OSITM award which is always a way to gain a high profile.  Also, the more MDs you visit and post in, then those authors are likely to pop in here to see who it is that has visited them.  But 36 replies in 6 weeks is not bad - so you should be happy.

Including the Lot-umentary is a great idea

I am glad you have a Laon flag and I look forward to seeing it (Geoff also kindly made one for West End - which I use MANY times).

Well, I look forward to more from Laon

Paul

praiodan: Thank you very much. Glad you like it. It's great to see if my MD already inspires some of you  :). And yes, that's the Mitsubishi Bank I think. After I searched for a tutorial, how to turn a building into a prop I was finally able to do this. I converted the "Mitsubishi Bank" into a prop. Then I placed them together and put a center court in the middle. Maybe you know this, but probably other people are interested in this. I forgot to take a screen of the Lot in the Lot Editor. Sorry.
Schulmanator: Thank you! Glad you like it  :).
caspervg: Thanks. I really do hope you'll turn in from time to time here .
bat: Thank you, glad you like both of them  :).
paroch: Thanks alot. It's great to read, that you like the layout of my city. As most of you like that I show the Lots in the LE first I will continue to do this. And if you can locate some English buildings, that would be very appreciated  :).
sciurus54: That's "Ympyratalo". You can find it on the STEX. Thanks. Oh, sounds stupid, but could you please edit your post and take out the picture. It's widening most of our screens. Thanks in advance..

All your words really honour me!! Thanks.

Update #7

So Update #7... It's the biggest so far!
First I can proudly announce, that Laon is now, after the recommendation by paroch and being voted in by the  existing members, a member of the IPON (http://myipon.co.nr/) (Independent Pact Of Nations).

Then I can also proudly say, that one of my pictures, though never shown here, was voted into the Hall Of Fame. Thanks to all voters.
You can view it here: Click me  :) (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=841.msg211008#msg211008)

So now I come to the "real update"  :satisfied:.
First I'll show you the Lots, then some in-game pictures. Hope you enjoy.

Lot 1:

Lot 5:

Now those were the Lots for the Quarter, I'm not sure if that's all of the Parisian/French Quarter. But first I will concentrate on other things now.

You can click on the pics for full view (1024x768)!
I think I'll write a few sentences to the pictures.

You can drive through that plaza, because it's a shopping complex. And you wouldn't like to cross an avenue everytime you want to visit another shop, would you?

I know, that the dude on the statue is not Napoléon Bonaparte, but it's supposed to be  :D. Anyway: Napoléon Plaza... Please ignore the cars, it looks strange... I use traffic generators, since my population isn't that big, yet &mmm
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg171.imageshack.us%2Fimg171%2F9093%2F50xw2.jpg&hash=52e8b65d8f275de8bf7d80e240dba48d50023992) (http://img159.imageshack.us/img159/5458/50kl6.jpg)

Shopping area. Not much to say. In the front there's a school plaza in the center court. I don't know why it looks crappy from that view. Look at the next screen.

Somehow this is my favourite picture of this update, that's why the 1024x768 picture is uploaded as .png, so that you can see the real quality of Laon :p.
You definatley see the difference. Saving as .jpg really takes away alot of quality.

Fabian,

Your update and LOTting skills are great.  There is no need to ask for comments, they'll come don't worry about that.  You keep up this type of work and you'll have so many comments you won't know what to do with them.
Some of those LOTs look like they are approching the 100 prop mark and I know exactly how long it takes to do something like that.
I'll definately be back for more.

Hi Fabian,

I can believe that this update took plenty of time to complete.  The detail on those lots is very impressive.  They are obviously very well thought out and they all fit together brilliantly.

In the final overview picture - I really like the block in the bottom left corner - I like the way the old and modern style buildings work together really well - you see things like that in RL so often.

And of course- a big congrats on your joining of IPON.

Happy New Year

Fabian- Your great work with the Lot Editor deserves way more than two seconds.  Laon has a very, very impressive start, and your willingness to take the time to explore customization at the level of detail your pics display should take you very, very far.

This is a fine MD, my friend.  Best of luck, both as OSITM, and down the road.

Update #8

Yes, I'm back.
First of I want to apologize to everyone for not writing an update since, I don't know... 50 days? This is not nice from me, especially because I was an OSITM, and maybe another one would have used this chance way better  &mmm.
My old city had an error, I don't know, but some Lots.. I can not explain... the buildings were appearing as a strange grey sculpture?! I don't know how this was caused.
Anyway, I started new... if you think I should start a new MD because of this, please let me know.
The pictures from this update are take from a little bit more far than before... or not? I can not tell, since I've changed to a widescreen-monitor and everything seems different.
Ok... so:

Very nice indeed Fabian.  Great attention to detail and a very grand looking city centre there.  It still looks like Laon to me, so I think you should keep the same MD.

It's good to see that you're back to work on Laon, Fabian.  It's too bad about what happened with the OSITM, but I'm sure you can get there again.  The W2W blocks look very fine indeed, and it seems as though Laon is full of life.  Welcome back!

Fabian,
Fantastic update,  I always enjoyed your pictures and I'm really glad to see you back.  I just hope that you don't have any more problems with your computer.
It looks to me like you have spent alot of time planning and in LE, it shows in your pictures.  Everything seems to blend together very well.
And if I was you, I would just continue on with this MD.  You already have 4 pages under your belt, a good base of visitors and your style hasn't really changed.  ;)
Hope to see another update real soon.

Update #9

Ok, I worked a little bit more on the centre, I hope you'll enjoy it. Still I'm not sure, if I'm taking the pictures with the right zoom-level.

I grit my teeth, Fabian, every time I see sort of thing in RL.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg16.imageshack.us%2Fimg16%2F2850%2Flaonundergroundgarageen.jpg&hash=50e420af573045d6985b95af05a5714533471496)

The entrance to a "Park-A-Lot" across the street from from a beautiful old stone building is just almost too much to bear.  You've very accurately captured the umpteen reasons why every city with architectural treasures needs to do everything it can to protect and preserve not just the structures themselves, but the "viewshed" in which they are situated.  Your pic actually had me wondering what wonderful old building or garden (the stone building the entrance is in front of looks like the sort that, pre-automobile days, would have had a formal garden or lawn in front of it) was torn up so that there could be more off-street parking.

Great job, and a karma point for presenting something that makes Laon's readers think about the choices that have to be made in adapting yesterday's urban areas to today's needs.

Update #10

Ok, now I've finished some more buildings, I will describe the pictures. I still don't know how to save a picture without loosing to much quality... anyway.
I personally love the following building on the right, it has been made out of "Carson Plaza" and "Trowbridge House".
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg257.imageshack.us%2Fimg257%2F3052%2F56073812.jpg&hash=351039f31a2fb633baeba34f9da690819f5231ef)

Another view:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg257.imageshack.us%2Fimg257%2F555%2F97153800.jpg&hash=139058a30a3954f46b9ad7334d04a8f9c9b037fa)

And one last view, you see a parking lot behind the building..
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg297.imageshack.us%2Fimg297%2F8043%2F82753220.jpg&hash=22e57354bdb13047737fd8b6a9275f93de8f8acc)

A plaza, connecting an old opera with a modern cinema-complex. Yes it's supposed to be that empty in the middle. Just a plaza. (I will probably edit this part of my city again, since it could be more detailed, in my opinion..)
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg297.imageshack.us%2Fimg297%2F1434%2F49601079.jpg&hash=5fdf317e260a279599c8cadb1c0589eb3683285a)

The most modern cinema.. only in Laon  :D
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg256.imageshack.us%2Fimg256%2F6841%2F38815521.jpg&hash=f3bf7fa86100cdc3afc7241e67cf94c123f0c357)

Overview. On the left the opera, on the right the cinema.

A new block. It serves as residential building for some Sims, but also as coffee shop and so on (if you look on the left side of the building you can see some tables of the coffee shop...).
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg208.imageshack.us%2Fimg208%2F5417%2F102r.jpg&hash=7f7d2ed98291299ac2fcbf4534116839ff2f7a38)

Update #11

This is not really an update, but I want to show you a mosaic I had planned for last time. Hope you enjoy it.
Maybe the quality sucks in your opinion. I don't know, if it's too big, I hope it's not.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg23.imageshack.us%2Fimg23%2F353%2F109mosaicsmall.jpg&hash=cc643be24f16e25ebf6327a056a342d3815508ec) (http://www.pic-upload.de/27.03.09/g2ts3o.png)
Attention! If you click on it the same picture opens in high resolution (=6mb).

Very nice pics and amazing work with the LE. I love the atmoshpere here. I think it mostly come from the sidewalk texture you're using wich fits very well with the buildings and the many trees. The plazzas are very beautiful.

Ps: I don't know if you know but there is a city in France called Laon.
