I would love to see an overview shot of the bridge and the passage.

Ask and thou shalt receive... ;)

I also have a teaser of what's coming next, enjoy! ;D

EDIT: I've also added a contents section to the first post, to make finding updates easier. Not much use at the moment with only three pages, but It'll make finding certain updates easier as this MD gets bigger over time.

Hello again everyone, it's time for update 6! Today we'll be returning to Hasbury Key, to see the Downtown area. In most towns and cities in Deltania, the city/town centres are different from the downtown areas. The centre is usually the oldest part of the town, with most of the historical buildings. Some large buildings are constructed, but usually they are relatively low-rise. The Downtown on the other hand is built slightly away from the centre, mainly to preserve the town centre as best as possible. Most Downtown areas in Deltan Cities are mostly built between the 1930's and 1950's, and usually contain the tallest buildings in the town or city. In many of the larger cities in Deltania, a second Downtown is present, usually built between the 1970's and the 2010's. The reason for this second Downtown is to preserve the first. The largest and probably the most extreme example is Delta City, capital of Deltania and the Empire, where the two Downtowns are six miles away, and are connected by several high-capacity transport links with many high-end, midrise neighborhoods between them.

Hasbury Key is a typical example of this type of urban layout. Its Downtown is built to the east and north-east of the old Town Centre. Most of the skyscrapers were built during the late 20th Century, as businesses wanting to move to the Barrier Islands found Hasbury Key an attractive place to go if Kanalka City was too expensive for them. This means that most companies in Hasbury are mid-wealth. However, much has changed in recent years, as major investments from BarryTech and Imposter Studios has made many parts of Hasbury Key quite attractive for high-end businesses. While some people see this is as gentrification tightening its grip on Hasbury, some see this as a new golden age for the town, as new businesses are constantly opening in Hasbury Key. Now for the replies:

Great images. I like the one with the lighthouse best. &apls

Thanks! Originally the lighthouse wasn't there, but I thought the key looked a bit bare, and seeing as it was close to a major navigation channel, I thought a lighthouse made sense. :)

Fantastic work with the beaches and the rest of the coastal areas! &apls Nice RHW usage too

It's always good to know people like my beaches. ;D And if you liked the RHW networks, there will be plenty of RHW when we visit Kanalka City, so stay tuned for that.

Epic harbor area  :o Great work again

Thanks for the comment, I'm glad you like my harbour. I thought that side of the passage was a bit empty and boring, so I thought a dredging station for the passage would fit nicely. ;D

Cool bridge... and I like the building on the right.  &apls

Thanks, I was lucky with the bridge choice, mainly because that particular bridge doesn't seem to like being symmetrical on both side in terms of length, but this time the width of the passage was perfect for it. :)

And more you shall have. ;D I'm quite pleased you like my beaches, the beaches from your MD are actually one of my main sources for inspiration. ;)

Now, we have the pics:

(facing east) Churchill Avenue has been the focal point for most of the development in Downtown Hasbury over the decades. The avenue is a major road in Hasbury, and runs from the eastern waterfront to Hasbury Common. It is also on average the most expensive street in the town, and is one of the most desireable places for businesses to operate in Hasbury Key. Since all the space along the road has been taken up by shops and offices, the apartments have completely surrounded the avenue, particularly to the north, as you can see. I'm a big fan of SOMY's apartment blocks, so you'll be seeing them quite often.

(facing north) Further down the avenue, the buildings get bigger. To the left of the image is the Dornoch Tower, one of the more recent skyscrapers to be built in Hasbury. It was completed in 2067, and mostly consists of offices, with the bottom two floors being reserved for retail space. Next to it is the End of the Rainbow Casino Club, built in 1923, and was the tallest building in town before the construction of the H.C.C. Building. It was founded by Mickey O'Neil, and it was said that his grandparents were the first Irish people in Hasbury, moving to the town sometime in the 1870's. Opposite the club is the AquaMall, built in 2034. The large building under construction will be a new Hedgewood Hotel, and will be the second tallest building in Hasbury when complete. Further along is a Belgravia Department Store, the largest one in Barrierland.

(facing north) Moving south-west we come to the Southern Waterfront. While it's not the southernmost part of the Hasbury Key coastline, it was named due to its location relavent to the Downtown area. It contains numerous shops and nightclubs, and is a popular place for tourists and residents alike.

(facing north) Further along the waterfront you can see the south pier, as well as the strip of hotels that were built between the 1920's and 30's. Just behind the hotels are The paddle steamer currently docked was built in 1875. These were once a common sight in this part of the country, chugging up and down Barrierland's sheltered bays and creeks, as well as active use in the major rivers of the south, such as the Delta and Serpentine rivers. Today most of them have been scrapped, but a few are still around, two centuries later. The ship to the left was the merchant ship H.M.S. Pole Star, and was used during the War of Independence as a prison ship by the British Empire, until the prisoners killed the crew and gave the ship to the Deltans. Today it functions as a museum.

(facing east) On the Eastern Waterfront is Fort Hasbury, quite possibly the oldest surviving building in town. It was built by the British in 1725, back when Hasbury was just a small fishing port, and majority of the key was still empty and marshy. The entire key had been drained and irrigated by 1823, which allowed the key to be farmed, and allowed skyscrapers to be built later on. The importance of the fort increased when the Hasbury Passage was complete, and during the Alterra War of the 1930's and 40's the cannons were replaced with anti-aircraft guns. After the war the fort ceased to be a military instillation and the fort was opened to the public as the Hasbury War Museum, and the original cannons were returned. The skyscraper behind the fort is 211 Promenade Street, the tallest building in Hasbury from 1979 to 2070, holding the record longer than any other building in Hasbury.

(facing east) Between Trotter Park and Dowtown is the small but affluent neighborhood of Trotter Gardens. One of the older parts of Downtown Hasbury, this neighborhood was built around 1910, when these houses were on the edges of the town, when farmland occupied most of the key. The large road running north-south (left-right) is Alvis Road, one of the busiest roads in Hasbury, and serves as the main divide between the Downtown and the Town Centre. There are numerous shops along the road, as well as luxury homes. They're cheaper than most mansions, so a good place to move to if you don't mind the noise of the traffic. The large office building towards the bottom of the image belongs to Barrierland Standard Insurance.

(facing south) Jumping to the northern edge of Downtown we come to the Carillon Hotel, considered to be the finest business hotel in town located just east of the Marina. It has all the services that any travelling businessperson needs, as well as fine views across the bay towards Delta City. Tennis and basketball facilities are also available.

(faicing south) Further along the waterfront we can see more luxury Hotels. The tall building to the right is the Eliel Tower, The tallest all-residential building in Hasbury since its completion in 2020. Some of the finest apartments in Hasbury can be found in this tower. On the waterfront is the Jones Brothers fishing dock. The Jones Brothers had a virtual monopoly on the fishing trade in Hasbury after its decline in the 1930's. Today the dock is the only fishing business in Hasbury Key apart from the Armand Co. Crawfish Company.

(facing south) This is the north-east corner of Hasbury Key. Here you can see the Hasbury Reef, which wraps around the north-east part of Hasbury Key, where the currents from the open water are strong enough to support coral growth. It's sheltered location means that the reef avoided the immense damage that other coral reefs incurred due to the Tsunami of 1991. Unfortunately the low-lying position of Hasbury Key meant that the town faced widespread flooding and moderate damage, particularly southern areas and areas closest to the water.

(facing west) Just around the corner is the eastern waterfront. This is where most of the skyscrapers are, gathered along the easternmost part of the Key. The skyscraper to the left is 570-590 Sentablo Avenue, formerly known as the Brent Building, the tallest building in Hasbury from 1972 to 1979. The office complex further right is the Van Hague Centre, headquarters of the major shipping company of the same name. Block A is currently the tallest building on Sentablo Avenue. The small, bright blue building to the far right is the headquarters of the Hasbury Computer Design Company. Founded in 2074, this company has experienced significant growth in the past couple of years, and may soon outgrow the current building.

(facing south) Further west is BarryTech Square. Founded in the mid-2040's, BarryTech has grown from a small-time gun manufacturer to one of the Empire's largest defense contractors. The company has its roots in Hasbury Key, and much like the Hasbury Copper Company a century earlier, BarryTech has invested millions in Hasbury Key, and at the centre of this renewal is BarryTech Square. Originally a group of derelict buildings, in 2068 the company cleared the area and created a new greenspace for the public, as well as a giant viewing screen, parking facilities and a new exhibition hall opposite the screen. In 2072 the company's new headquarters was completed, and is located just east of the square.

(facing west) At the western end of the square is the Imposter Studios Building. BarryTech operates very closely with the Studios, and both companies have left their mark on the town. Imposter Studios was founded in 2069, and has its main studios in a massive, sprawling complex in Kanalka City. Its current headquarters building was completed in 2070, and was the tallest building in Hasbury Key for a year afterwards, until the current BarryTech Headquarters was built. The extensive greenspace behind the building was all part of the renewal project, and has helped make Hasbury Key's Downtown become more open and pleasant, ensuring better access for pedestrians. One of the buildings demolished to make way for the open green was BarryTech's old headquarters, which was located just behind the I.S. Building.

(facing east) On a small area of reclaimed land is BarryTech Plaza. Surrounded by sculptures, Palm Trees and Coral Reefs, the headquarters stands out not only due to its immense height, but its isolated location at the end of the pier. It's visible for miles out to sea.

(facing south) The Poseidon Tower. Gigantic, yet elegant, Imposing but Welcoming, the Tower has been the headquarters of BarryTech since 2071, and is by far the tallest building in Hasbury Key, and will most likely remain so. Many people say the Tower is a shining beacon to the progress and prosperity of Hasbury Key, but some say that its a giant monument to the opression and totalist control of big companies on the people of the Barrier Islands. Either way, BarryTech has had an enormous effect on Hasbury's development, and this awesome structure is the symbol of the company's dominance of this town. From the top of this 115 story structure, the executives of BarryTech can look out onto the town that they have shaped and sculpted as their own.

(facing north) Before I conclude this update, a couple of night pics, the first one showing the Neon-drenched Hotel Strip, with an exciting nightlife and numerous bars and resturaunts along the waterfront.

(facing north) Finally, a shot of the Funland Arcade. Built in 1912, The arcade has been a big tourist attraction ever since, undergoing three rennovations in its lifetime, the last one being in 2062.

Well that concludes Hasbury Key, I hope you have enjoyed viewing and reading about it as much as I've enjoyed making it. ;D ;D Update 7 will be quite small, as we'll be visiting the tiny island of El Nino Pequena. Stay tuned! ;D

Welcome to Update 7! Today we will be visiting El Nino Pequena, a small island about a mile off the south coast of Hasbury Key. El Nino Pequena was first discovered by the Spanish Empire sometime in the 1620's, as they travelled westwards from their new colony, which is known today as Serberno Tikina. They followed the Barrier Islands westwards with the hope of establishing new outposts for their empire, a goal which was quickly dashed when the British Empire arrived in Catalania in 1650. The Spanish stopped many times along the Barrierland Coast to come ashore, mainly to survey the flora and fauna of the islands. One of the places they dropped anchor was where Horizonte is today. The crew looked out towards the sea, and saw that the View was dominated by two islands, which they named Los Ninos, the children, as they were smaller than the island 8 miles to the east, El Corcovado. (Which we will visit at some point)

El Nino Pequena, so named because it's the smaller of the two islands, remained untouched by man until the Alterra War, when in 1943 Gun Batteries were built into the eastern and southern cliffs, to guard the recently completed Hasbury Passage. Secret storage rooms were built inside the island, and the military used the island until 1960, when the batteries were dismantled. When the Tsunami of 1991 hit Barrierland, the Impact of the Tsunami Waves against the island's cliffs caused all the old tunnels to cave in, as well as causing numerous lanslides, which can still be seen today. A manned weather station was built on the island in 2003, and is still in use today. Now it's time for the replies:

Well I'm pleased you liked the updates, and there will be plenty of beaches in this update, seeing as it's an island. :D :D Hope you enjoy it!

Time for the pictures...

(facing north) The Weather Station is nothing but a simple cabin, built on a flat but exposed part of the island. It was built in the 2000's to help monitor sea conditions, including incoming waves via satellite. This is all part of an early warning system built on the Deltan Coast in the 2000's and early 2010's. It's constanly manned by a team of three scientists for two months at a time, until the second team comes along to take over for another two months. It's a lonely life even for three people, as well as a potentially dangerous one.

(facing north) El Nino Pequena originated from volcanic activity, but there has been no significant volcanic activity in this part of Catalania for nearly 10 million years. Within the island's small, steep-sided crater is the Pool of Tears. During the rainy season, the water level in the pool rises, and may flow out of the crater into the sea,  creating a small waterfall. Most of the year the waterfall is dry, leaving a muddy wall.

(facing north) Just to the west of the Weather Station is a large landslide, caused in 1993 after a 4-day downpour weakened part of the western face which had already been made unstable by the Tsunami 2 years before.

(facing north) Further down the hill. Most of the material in the landslide is still there nearly a century later, as the landslide occured on the sheltered western side of the island.

(facing north) Further north from the weather station, along a muddy path is the Helipad, the only way on and off the island, as the sides of the island are either too steep, rocky, unstable or heavily forested to be ascended easily. A helicopter comes every week to deliver supplies, as well as exchange research teams every two months. The small shed used to house a diesel generator to power the shack, but since 2012 it's housed a hydrosphere. Hydrospheres are currently the only commercially viable way of harnessing Hydrogen in vast amounts for practically anything, from cars to entire cities.

(facing south) The northern face of the island is littered with rocks and debris from numerous landslips that occured from 1991-2006. The debris from the landslides is still slowly moving down the slopes, as they edge ever closer towards the sea.

(facing south) The summit of El Nino Pequena is almost bare of vegetation, save for a few hardy species of shrub and grasses. The summit is just under a thousand feet (around 300 metres) above sea level. This is decreasing by about 1cm every 10 years due to erosion.

(facing north) This is the KCTV Tower, the main television transmitter mast for Kanalka City and the surrounding areas. The original tower was in Kanalka City itself, but was demolised to make way for an industrial estate. The tower was completed in 2045, after 5 years construction. The peices were built in Kanalka City, then transported by helicopter to a ready-made concrete foundation. The tower transmits signals up to 50 miles, so it also serves Delta City. KCTV is not actually the name of a company that owns the tower, it is simply short for Kanalka City Television, and in fact serves dozens of TV stations, as well as a few radio stations.

(facing north) A night shot of the top of the tower. The crew of three that man the weather station are also in charge of the tower's maintenance, which is easily accessible from the weather station. The tower is brightly lit at night because it's near the flight path that most aircraft use when taking off from Kanalka City International Airport. Many residents in Hasbury and Horizonte said that the tower would be an eyesore when completed, especially with the bright floodlights. But today most people find it hard to imagine the island without the tower, and has become a reigonal landmark. From 2045 to 2047 it was the tallest structure in Barrierland, and remained the tallest in the Barrier Islands outside Kanalka City until 2070.

(facing north) Just off the coast of El Nino Pequena is Nino Reef. It's in the most sheltered waters around the island, away from where the largest waves from the south-east bring heavy storms that could damage the reef. It's popular with divers and yachtsmen.

Well that concludes this update, as you can see I'm using a new water mod, do you guys think it's an improvement over the original? Remember that all the water in this update is quite shallow. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this update, don't forget to leave a reply! ;D ;D

I was immediately stunned by the beauty of the night picture of the TV tower. A great composition and band of colors with perfect lighting to boot. You've made something special here.

The rest of the update is also great, though I had to get my instant gut-reaction out of the way first. The new water mod does look quite nice, though I would put it right about even with the old one--which you were able to create some fantastic pictures with. I'd encourage you to continue to play around with water mods because my experience doing so has been enjoyable and I think has endowed my cities a bit of extra variety. That being said I've played around with a lot of 'em and those you've chosen so far fit your cities very well and better than any I've yet run across.

Before I ramble on too long let me conclude by saying you've done a great job--and of course I'll look forward to the next edition  ;)
