What is the exact steps for downloading  a texture from turbosquid to the free version of gmax? I am using Windows XP. Like which folder to put the download in so it will show up in materials editor in gmax? The manual for gmax is very vague on a lot of subjects.

Hi Deanva and welcome to SC4D  ;D

I don't use GMax but the most logical place to put your textures is C;/gmax/gamepacks/matlibs  (your path may look different but doesn't matter)
The most important thing is once in GMax, go into Customize/configure paths/bitmaps and select the folder where you want to place all your textures.
Hope you get creative

It is indeed.  %confuso

You can download textures and put them in any folder. I often find interesting textures that I download but don't use straight away. Textures that I use are put in a sub folder within that gmax project. That way I don't have to do too much searching if I wish to use it again or render the building again.

Once in Gmax? Click the 'red ball icon' which opens the Materials Editor. Click on the Material Navigator icon at the top menu bar. Select "file system". Search for your texture then drag it to the Material editor. You can name it at that point. The example above doesn't show but I've since learned to keep texture names short . . . such as WL stands for Wall Large ...

Good Luck with your bat.
