I thought I may start up this thread for people who have reached the milestone of ten years on SC4D.

Some of you may find this amusing.

I will give you a rundown on what I was doing 10 years ago...

I had just finished year 12 at high school and got a grade high enough to get into a civil engineering course. I mainly signed up to get some cool mods for the LEX and I did not post until 2008. I was more of a city builder back than and got a region with over 3,000,000 inhabitants.

I would always thing about how I could make use features in the NAM to better enhance my cities.

I never requested stuff but did enjoy the aspect of working with what you have. I still do that today (Although I am a bit biased being a RUL worthy NAM team Member now)

So much has been seen on the threads in great community. I feel the community has been better than some other communities. I know FPS communities can be pretty brutal.

The view of SC4 I have is that it is a blank canvas where you can design whatever you want. It does not have to conform to other peoples standards but it is a way to explore you own views of creativity in a city building environment. This is probably why I am active all these years on.  :)

Others are welcome to post their own experiences in a positive manner of why they still enjoy the experience.

Of coarse no sniping or putting other members on the spot in this thread. This thread is suppose to highlight why you still play SC4 all these years on.

So just a mere 2 weeks past 10 years now for myself  ;D

But the reasons i still play the game and post here , hmmm  :-\

1) I love the way the transit was and traffic were set up originally of course, but more so the improvements we have all made to those areas over the years..

2) this one is more important to me, i think -
The quality of people here in what we refer to as " the community".. the postings and interactions with all of you and the enjoyable times I have shared with you in the related live chat rooms thru those 10 years..  &apls

I also registered here back in 2007. I didn't start interacting with the community until 2009.

However, I haven't played SC4 or interacted with the community on a regular basis in the time since. I'm only just now resuming play after a few years hiatus due to real life issues. For you all who have stayed with the game and community consistently for the past decade, .

In my opinion, the SimCity 4 community has been outstanding in friendliness and helpfulness, while also maintaining a certain sophistication that has been far more welcoming than alienating. I agree with b22rian about the quality of the people  that comprise it, and I share eggman121's view regarding the game itself.

Let's hope the community continues to hold up well and bear much fruit over the next few years.

EDIT: As to why I'm returning to the game (or still playing the game despite its age), SC4 and its modifications involve many different things which I have had at least a mild interest in for most of my life, including transit and road maps/layouts, architecture, city layout, micromanagement, landscapes, world building, and general creation and expression of creativity.

2007 was a very good year.  I actually got the game in 2004, and had it running on a laptop before I even left the parking lot.  ;D  I knew that there was an SC4 community even back then, because I had searched for SC4 gameplay tips and such.  Then I started seeing these new transit networks.  I noticed very early on that I couldn't build diagonal streets, and yet I saw them in some pics people were posting.  Next thing I knew, I had a version of the NAM (don't even remember which version) and RHW 1.3 in my Plugins folder.  Then it spiraled out of control from there, and I've never looked back.

I may have come for the downloads, but I quickly found that I like talking about the game as much as playing it.  ()stsfd()  From what I've observed in my time here, this community is very close and very resilient.  We always bounce back, no matter what new city building game comes along.

Personally , I will have to wait not so long ( the 02th of January ) , for an 11th birthday at SC4Devotion... hard to believe ! Someone has written in his signature « Time flies like a banana ... » , I would be seriously worried  , having to argue to refute that .  :-[

Nice thread .
