Always great to see new stuff. Wonder if you folk, possibly in concert with xxdita, could put together a cleanitol file which identifies known releases which conflict in some way with the NAM? (old release stuff, some older and/or conflicting, etc).. this may not be possible but just a thought

Uh-oh, hopefully, the LEX won't break due to the download bash. ;) Anyway, we put an extra-strong effort in compiling the latest version, and even though we made detailed test runs, some things might not work properly due to the sheer number of new items that come with the NAM, the RHW and the NWM in particular. Since so many things have changed within the NAM, it is probably best to uninstall the previous version and install the new one from scratch. Don't skip the optional components page without having a closer look at the items that are listed there!

We added some new code that also helps you to select a Traffic Simulator, and as you might have noticed, the list is considerably shorter than usual. We decided to concentrate on a few easy to understand Traffic Simulators, an option to keep your old simulator, or configure your own with the new Traffic Simulator Configuration Tool by Stefan79, which can be installed as an option. Hopefully, this should make things easier, and reduce support issues. There's extensive information about all the new stuff in the readme files, so please refer to those first before asking questions.

Some of the new items might be somewhat confusing at the first glance, so you should try them in a test city first in order to get the hang of them. We will also publish a few more tutorials over the next few days, so this should help you as well. Euro textures for the new items are in production right now, but it will take a while to finish everything, as there's so many new content packed into this release (and some of the items have been in development since many months or even years, like the NWM). Please post your questions and possible bug reports in the appropriate support threads, the links can be found in the readme files.

And now, enjoy the new NAM! :)

It looks amazing, but I do have one question: Why do the transition/connector RHW pieces have different road textures than regular RHW?
Title: Re: NAM May 2010 Release
Post by: Andreas on May 09, 2010, 03:01:55 PM
This doesn't look right. Are you sure that you don't have an older version of the RHW buried in your plugins folder?

Most likely - the RHW 4.0 gets installed in the "Real Highway Mod" folder. ;)

I notice that the RHW is called the "Real Highway" mod, yet the ZIP folder I just downloaded is called "NetworkAddonMod_Rural_Highway_Mod.zip"  ::)

&apls

None of this "imminent" hype making people impatient this time, you just reveal the "secret weapon" and the next day you release it... much better tactics this time.

Unfortunately, that's something we cannot circumvent. The same goes for the title of the download at the LEX - those entries were written to the database, and don't change when updating a file. But rest assured, the ZIP contains the most current version. :)

Dedicated the mothers, right? ;)

This is...this one's big.  That's about all I can say.  I can't remember the last time an update for the NAM came with so much new stuff.  The NWM is going to change the face of the game absolutely...I can't even comprehend it.  All I can say is THANK YOU for all the hard work &apls &apls &apls!

And now, for the first time this year, I'm going to go play SimCity 4 .

QuoteNetwork Addon Mod May 2010 by the NAM Team
Before your run off in excitement and install the new NAM version, please make sure to read this (short) document first and then take action, otherwise some things might go wrong.

Uninstalling the previous NAM version

Since many things have changed compared to the last version of the NAM, it is highly advised to uninstall the current version first. The original NAM download comes with an uninstaller, which is either available via an entry in the start menu, or by double-clicking the "uninst.exe" file in the NAM installation folder. If you have modified the NAM files for yourself, please make sure to backup them to a safe place, so you can apply the changes to the new NAM installation later.

Using the BSC Cleanitol TM File

wouangaine developed a tool that can remove outdated files from your plugins folder before installing a new download. Simply load the Cleanitol_NetworkAddonMod.txt in BSC Cleanitol TM and scan your plugins folders....

Please, where can the Cleanitol_NetworkAddonMod.txt be found ?...my searches have come up empty...

Thanks

EDIT:
Quote from: rjaap on May 09, 2010, 04:24:13 PM
The cleanitol file is included in the zip file of the NAM update.

Not in the Mac version... that I can find... but yes it is in the windows .zip..

Thanks!

Congrats guys, this is the greatest release day in years!
-New NAM? Check.
-New RHW? Check.
-Anything else new? Check (NWM probably being the largest and most anticipated.)

Give yourselves a pat on the back. You've continued to make a game made all the way back in 2003 top of the line. I can't wait to have a crack at the new content.

Some issues right off the bat... So many I am wishing I had NOT installed the new one.

1. Intersection string number missing for EVERY road addon. Nothing in that entire file works in any measure, and I have installed and uninstalled it too many times to count.
2. 1 lane elevated highway now crashes to desktop (That sure is new!).
3. Highway connection causes a crash whenever placed.
4. Red arrows abound with the RHW, the only thing I can place are the pieces I already had.
5. As a matter of fact, nothing new was added, save for screwed up red arrows, more icons (with nothing but red arrows) and crashes.

Applause revoked, crap product I regret installing. I am going to try uninstalling EVERYTHING AGAIN and reinstalling it. If it is STILL screwed up, I am going to go back to the previous version, frustrated I wasted my time on a load of tripe. If you are going to tease us for weeks about an impending transit addon, MAKE SURE IT WORKS. Thank you. :angrymore:

RTFM is very important, and the first thing I did. I went into my plugins, and uninstalled everything relevant to rural highway and NAM. I then installed the 2010 version of all three releases. I am still having the issues outlined. (I noticed the support thread, I will bring this issue there)

All the issues you described are consistent with having a conflicting, outdated RUL-bound transit mod somewhere in your Plugins, possibly pieces of an old NAM release (perhaps a DatPacked one), or old transit bugfixes.  Try a completely clean Plugins folder and then install the new versions into that.  Additionally, check the NAM FAQ Item #1 (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=5094.msg161792#msg161792) which specifically deals with "red arrow bugs".

Quick issue I think.

Are we missing one puzzle piece for the rail viaduct tab ring?

Diagonal Railway over Blank Terrain

There is no apparent way to make a full 90 degree turn using the new large-radius 45 degree viaduct curves unless you use one of the included Diagonal Rail over Ped Mall, GLR etc puzzle pieces.

Do not install any NAM Essentials that are older than the current NAM release! Actually, don't install any NAM Essentials right now, as the NAM always includes the files that come with the NAM Essentials. The NAM Essentials should have been updated to May 2010 as well, though.

I think many people don't understand the concept of the NAM Essentials; those are intended to provide an updated NAM Controller or Bridge Controller, in case we found a bug in the current controller, or in case new optional NAM plugins (such as the RHW, SAM, RAM etc.) are published a while after the NAM release. We just haven't made use of this feature very often so far, and the NAM Controller that gets published with a new NAM release also supports any NAM plugins that are released around that date (or on the same day, as in the current release). This might change in the future, though.
Title: Re: NAM May 2010 Release
Post by: Tarkus on May 10, 2010, 03:34:14 PM
I've just checked the uploads on the LEX and STEX as far as the Essentials goes.  They both seem to be the proper build (r67 on the NAM Controller), though due to some issues with the LEX software's handling of filenames, the one here will download as "June 2007", even though it's actually May 2010.

I'll second Andreas, though--NAM Essentials is not required.  Generally speaking, there's no reason to download it right now.

Could you tell me if the new NAM 2010 is OK to install with the RTMT v3.50 and the v3.60 addon pack and also the DAMN (Daeley's Advanced Menu Navigator) already installed?

I checked the readme files in the new NAM and they weren't listed, but I'd rather check first.

Thanks!

There shouldn't be any compatibility issues with the SFBT Street Tree Mod indeed. There will be an update in the future to add trees to SAM streets as well, but it's still in development, and due to my busy schedule, it's undetermined if and when I can complete it.

excellent work nam team. brilliant coding and excellent functionality and integration.
one small thing ive noticed though: if you run a RHW-2 under elevated highway, the RHW underneath ends up as red/black/green checkerboard squares. its still fully functional though.
overall, a brilliant release.

Hm, is it just me or can I not download the newest RHW? The new NAM and NWM had no issues, but RHW takes me to the coding monkey. It says that the lot has reached its download limit.

wondering about a few things...

is the 'NAM vr' icon button thingy still part of the plan or has it been scrapped  ???

it almost appears that 'rural roads addon' and SAM are merging in purpose/use... is this a planned integration  ()what()

is there a picture reference card showing all the parts and pcs to rhw/nam/nwm

can the nam/rhw/nwm be d.a.m.n.

can rural road intersection pieces be mixed with all maxis roads/streets/sam streets

is there something or can something be added to the nam tobe able to pick intersection types -ie no traffic lights where the roads intersect (particularly in rural places, thru r/w-stopped cross rd), 4-way stop sign (street-str, street-rd, sam street-rd) one thru-one stop, t-stop...   ()what()

I can't answer your other questions, but I know that I have the NAM version icon. I think you have to select the option in the NAM setup.

Here's a somewhat desirable side effect of draggable FAR:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg199.imageshack.us%2Fimg199%2F6200%2Fdfarnc0.jpg&hash=601a948d69f4843941750e03cf2f5c55ac0c4f41)

It looks like I no longer have to use that tedious workaround I described a while back to make FAR neighbor connections.  A drag can be a good thing!  $%Grinno$%
Title: Re: NAM May 2010 Release - Quick Fix for ML Japanese EL-Rail Catenaries MOD
Post by: ebina on May 15, 2010, 03:34:07 AM
I created a quick and dirty patch for users of ML Japanese EL-Rail Catenaries MOD to resolve missing or black sidewalk issue. If you are getting the said glitch after installing the NAM 2010 please install the patch.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg175.imageshack.us%2Fimg175%2F3938%2Fmlelrailnotpatched.jpg&hash=447e7d240d0c2447fbe9130f17234bbecd4fe2f0)

Contents of the patch are textures from the old NAM, are roadway textures with built-in sidewalks. By installing the patch you can bring back sidewalks.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg201.imageshack.us%2Fimg201%2F3532%2Fmlelrailpatched.jpg&hash=8eb418291fe98c70d4293ef1964fbc187f427e9e)

The cause of the glitch is the changes I made to the textures to enable replaceable sidewalk feature. (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=1138.msg222599#msg222599) Since modifying this mod to make it compatible with replaceable sidewalk is time consuming, I cannot provide updates soon. I started to create replaceable sidewalk compatible version of models. When I complete needed updates I'll send files to moonlinght.

EDIT: Patch removed. Please check this post (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=10828.msg329510#msg329510) for a new update.

I've just updated the latest NAM, RHW and NWM releases, which contain all the bugfixes that have been posted so far. If you haven't downloaded the new releases yet, you don't need to download the bugfixes that have been posted in the forums throughout the last couple of days.

The NAM Essentials (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=850) have been updated as well to fix a few bugs that have been reported. Furthermore, I've also updated some NAM Additional Bridges as following:

- Old Road Bridge (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=856) by jeronij - fixed outer zoom level bug
- Akashi-Kaikyo Bridge (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=858) by fukuda - fixed minimal length issue
- Millau Viaduct (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=861) by fukuda - fixed zoom 3 issue
- Monorail Bridges (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2001) by choco - added cable-stayed Monorail bridge
- Concrete Street Bridge (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2038) by choco - updated models and nightlighting

Not sure if anyone has picked up on this one yet (but there is far too much to search through), but the new NAM no longer allows you to make driveway-like junctions using the elevated rail over road puzzle pieces. When you demolish the stub without the overhead rail, the piece reverts to a normal street stub instead of an invisible piece like it used to.

Any sort of outdated transit mods, including previous NAM installations.  It's a similar situation to the Red Arrow Bug . . . see NAM FAQ Item #1 (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=5094.msg161792#msg161792).

Hello NAM-Team and All.  :)
I want to report about good mod "NAM WideRadiusCurves FaceLift MOD" from Japan. "$Deal"$

It's made by NekoPanch san and Moonlinght san,
Added SIDEWALK or TILEs along the road for NAM's wide radius curves, like a sithlrd98 made before.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg687.imageshack.us%2Fimg687%2F1411%2Fneko001.jpg&hash=08d914477d096cd7999c27cde53f80f34d1fcdeb)

This MOD compartible with quite all 'SidewalkTextureMOD' perfectly without replace any files and Re-Plop each LOTs.
They are used S3D(Sidewald and Tile) under curve-roads, and got Instance of Sidewalk-Textures used in Plugins.
so it would change a texture of them(Sidewalk and Tile) by automaticaly when you change Sidewalk-Textures.

I think that it should be official NAM's option in a future. :)
How do you think about it ?

- NAM WideRadiusCurves FaceLift MOD by Neko-Panch and Moonlinght.
Download page is here : http://hide-inoki.com/bbs/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=800

- How to use
You can see 2 kind of folder 'Wide Curve Side Walk' and 'zWide Curve Overall Pavement' in a zip.
A files for every each part are included in both folders.
Please remove folder (or files) which you don't need to use in a game.

### Note ###
You can not use this MOD with following in same time....
FAR Textured Sidewalks Update 1 (http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=22062) by sithlrd98
WideRadius Curves T21 Mod (http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/stexdetails.cfm?id=21068) by sithlrd98
and other MODs with same purpose.

Remove files too following...
zzz_Sithlrd98_Road_Curves_xxxxxxxxxxxxx_Texture_Euro.dat in SFBT Euro Road Texture Mod (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1605) by Andreas

Thanks for reading. ;)

Since the LEX is "smart" enough to know you are not registered so that it "hides" the download button.. couldn't it be "smart" enough to display the message that "registration is required for download" (possibly with a link to the registration page)?

I'm just wondering if anyone else caught this before, but...

You know how you can drag FAR with roads...?

The same goes for rail; You just gotta draw an H... (I might be the only one, other than the person who designed it, who knows of this...)

I'm just wondering if anyone ever caught that...

Also, awesome work, NAM Team.

Also, let's see if I can list all the easter eggs:
- Draggable FAR (3X2 straight section piece)
- Draggable FAR T Intersection with ortho road
- Draggable FAR Railroad Crossing
- Draggable FAR Crossing with ortho road
- Draggable Ortho road to FAR, 18.4 degrees and 71.6 degrees
- Draggable Tram in road and end piece
- Cultural reference to Seinfeld with RHW 8 (Double wide lanes...)
- Draggable FARR (Fractional Angle Rail Road), only the 3X2 straight section piece, as far as I can figure out...

Added: I found even more draggable rail pieces...

JoeST is correct.  The main NAM download includes the same exact controller file that is in NAM Essentials right now.  As such, if you're downloading NAM Essentials, you're effectively downloading duplicate files.  As such, Essentials is strictly "non-essential" right now.

Damn this topic irritates me now do not you think it is high time to be erased and replaced by a new and so long awaited.  ;)  ;D
Tity was a joke - seriously now, after completion of the NAM 30 work should continue and what interests me is the next section in what will be numbered 31 or 30.01 AFAIK there are three new departments of the NAM that is currently being developed and when completed will require new NAM nucleus to function properly right?
But then innovation will be so much that hardly appropriate 30.01 or something. Rather, 31 or any integer,  because then there will be a  really big bang.
