First bat :o Wow &apls &apls You have a great avenir in batting mate. Keep it up because you are good
I agree with Kim on this keep it up very good!!!!
moin guys,
thanks for stoping by ...
worked with sketchup and render programms before, so i got kind of base_knowledge ...
thanks to you anyway ... :-[
my next project is gonna be a building of new york, as well ... %BUd%
it's on the corner of 5th avenue to w 13th street,
i think the number is 72 5th avenue.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg3.imageshack.us%2Fimg3%2F417%2F725thavenue.jpg&hash=97c8c3c51367e57e7a8b640cd4724267f07ec933)
image is from google earth.
i choose it because of it's raster of almost 16 to 32 meters ... it's the easiest i guess.
if somebody has better pics of the building or any suggestions, please don't hesitate ...
b_schlurf
This is very good for a first BAT my friend ;)
very impressive. can't wait to see what else you are working on &apls
good :o
moin everybody,
thanks ...
here is the progress i've made so far with 72 5th Avenue. %BUd%
it is not finished yet, as you can see there are no textures and there is still a bit of detailing to do.
i still have no entrance and there is no stuff on the roof.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg222.imageshack.us%2Fimg222%2F417%2F725thavenue.jpg&hash=9427cca41e1b9456f430fff91b8319976680f3fd)
my question though is whether the groundfloor is to flat - it seems that the 2 floors above are to mighty ... ?
thanks for your suggestions
b_schlurf
Just stumbled across this forum. Very Nice! As to your question, I don't think the bottom floor is too flat, The upper floors break up the building a bit. In my opinion it looks nice.
Excellent building. As to wether it is "too flat"? It seem that the street level is a bit repetative looking. Perhaps a bit to break up the sameness of the windows is warrented.
---Gaston
moin guys,
thanks ... !
gaston: i've changed the groundfloor a bit, so its more variation in it ...
after all it looks slightly different than the original ...

done a bit of detailing and put things on the roof, as well.
some textures too, but still working on those ...
b_schlurf
Hi
I do indeed think it looks much better after the changes. Great work so far.
---Gaston
&apls &apls Wow , another excellent work my friend. No doubt you got a great skill
Here (http://www.emporis.com/en/il/im/?id=650885) I've found a quite goodl pic of 72 5th ave:

moin ...,
first, thanks for your opinions! i'm really grateful.
arkenberge_joe: danke, die renderings sind übrigens in cinema 4D gemacht worden.
gwail: thanks for the really good pic, it looks so much better than in google earth. though the model was finished already, :-[ ... your help is welcome everytime!
so for now ...
i've done a bit of rendering ... and this is the result:

Wow, some great buildings here!
moin guys,
here are some pics of the building i've done before. 72 Spring Street.
i did a bit of re_texturing and put more things on the roof.
hope it has an older look than before and looks not yellowish anymore.

Sure. How about...
1501 Broadway ;D?
I've been watching this thread for awhile, and really love the work here, is there any place to download it so I can use them in my Sim City?
Thats some great work here. Please keep it up!
Wow! Wonderful work, beutelschlurf!
You're doing a fantastic job--keep it up!
Dustin
Excellent work, I think it'll be in one of my city! ;D
Guillaume
moin everybody,
first i have to thank you for following this thread ...
to baconrocky: still working on in ... to be honest, modeling is more fun than to find out how to put it on the lex, but it will, promise! ()stsfd()
to gwail: you see my workhorse isn't that powerful for doing a job like 1501 broadway ... ()testing()
but for your purpose this might be interisting for you
the new project i'm doing is 45 East 20th Street ... in NEW YORK %BUd%
12 stories and on a lot of 2 by 1
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg7.imageshack.us%2Fimg7%2F326%2F45east20thstreet.jpg&hash=b3bf9195a1a9db16d22e53e971028fe32e1f1172)
that what is gonna look like
cu!
b_schlurf
yes it's a good choice for a new project
Modeling is beautiful! Sense of proportions is superb!
But there are some little problems with texturing/materials. If you look at the shadow side of the day views (the red brick one) it is just totaly black! You should do preview on a non_black background as to be aware of overall brightness levels.
Good luck
Guillaume
moin everybody,
thanks for the replies!
to SimFox: the dark color is because it's a very dark brown_redish color ... to look more old. like around 1900s. or do you mean the one one the rooftop?
so now it's time for a view on my progress, i think!
so here it is, still just the frontview ... :'(
took quiete a while!
for now i'm working on the other sides and on the rooftop ...

cheers
b_schlurf
p.s. i think that building is allmost to much for my maschine, ... hart to handle the model ()testing() and there still no textures on it! &mmm
If you're done with the model, save a backup and convert the whole model to an editable poly. It will make it much easier on your machine
Looking good, beutelschlurf!
I hope you're able to get your computer problems sorted out, though.
Good luck!
Dustin
That's a great looking model. Very nicely detailed.
moin everybody,
had problems with exporting from gmax, but sorted it out, thanxfully! ()stsfd()
took me and others two days! thanks to them by the way!
now it's time for an update of 45 East 20th Street! %BUd%

only the textures to do!
thanx
b_schlurf
btw. plan to have the buildings on the lex!
Hi beutelschlurf,
Very beautiful buildings you've made. I look forward to have them in the game :)
good to hear you sorted your computer issues

here a little update: 45 East 20th Street

still to do: texture from the walls, advert is to green, could fade more, i think.
anything else?
thanks for any suggestions!
b_schlurf
the ground level windows need work, they are too blue and too opaque for such large panels... the doors also look a bit painted on both are minor concerns but overall a very well executed piece.
i agree with mightygoose about the windows and door. The rest of the building is very well done &apls &apls
b_schlurf: This is some fantastic work you're doing here. I hadn't yet checked out your thread until today, and I'm very glad I did. Once I start developing the cities in my region (with commercial), these buildings will look terrific there. They have a great "old" feel that I'm looking for. Keep up the great work!
-- Don
The brick kind of a blur. Try to make the texture bigger.
Looking good. Most the texturing is really well done. The old ads and the outline of a vanished neighbouring building are great touches. The roof stuff is well done and textured and I like the stone front with all its details. I think though that your window glass really drags this one down. It's so flat and bland it hurts the rest of the model. Try and add some variety to the blue. Doesn't have to be strong, but right now it's just so flat. I think Vester is right about the brick too. It's generally best to exagerate the size of bricks on building's so that they don't end up as just a blur in Sim City's limited world. This one is looking good and with just a few texture tweaks it'll be ready to go.
This BAT is very beautifull &apls &apls
Guillaume ;)
Hi b_schlurf,
I must say your buildings look phenomenal, especially your textures. Your work has been a huge inspiration to me for my first BAT. I agree with Spa though, the windows still look a little bland. But other than that, keep up the good work!
Cheers!

moin guys,
time for an update ...

allright, here is the new project:
it's 42-44 Bond Street in New York %BUd%

this will be the one to build over the next weeks! ()stsfd()
as allways i'll do it less or more, like it would be around the turn to the 20th century ... ??? (hope you guys know what i mean ...)
cheers
b_schlurf
this one is going to be trickier than the last because it has quite a lot of arches, but
I'm sure you'll pull through magnificently
I'm looking forward to your progress
good luck!!!
At a certain pont you do have to declare things done and I would say 45 East 20th Street is at that point where it's into real subjective points. I think the additional time you spent with the window textures helped a lot. The blue just didn't fit. I like the details of blinds closed and the flashier glass on a few of the corner windows. Your storefront now really shines. It's just what this one needed. I look forward to adding it to my plugins. Good luck with 42-44 Bond Street. I look forward to seeing some progress shots as it develops!
ooo!!! more great BATS! I'd say it's ready.
Good luck on 42-44! I love how that buildinglooks squished between two moderns... &Thk/(
moin everybody,
BarbarossaS: thanx ... but this time i screwed up a bit! &cry2 (explanation underneath the pic ...)
spa: you're right ... 45 East 20th Street is ready, for sure! ... it came out quite nicely. cheers!
bob56: yes ... and all of them are from New York :P
... and here you get a glimpse of 42-44 Bond Street
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg519.imageshack.us%2Fimg519%2F1305%2F4244bondstreet03.jpg&hash=2cffc7a19d01a29a9c618a24623134d0528d8fee)
as you can see, the three columns which bear the building are not wide enough, according to the window_panels ... alltogether is the look of the building much lighter and not so heavy like the original!
what can i say ... i'm a bit unhappy about it! &ops
i know, i should do better, but i guess i leave it as it is. i tried to scale it, but it teared apart the propotions ... &mmm
okay enough of the dimenions, here something about the configuration and the furniture:
as for all of my bats i try to have an older look so i changed the groundfloor to a shop and a proper entrance into the building ...
the roofjunk and the view of the backalley will follow! ... ha, and of course the textures!
anyway, if you guys don't look at the original too closely, it might still be a good building to fit a city! :P
suggestions are welcome ...
cheers
b_schlurf
I don't really see the problem here. I keep scrolling back and forth between the RL pic and your render and, well, either my eyesight is failing, or
either I'm looking at a great realistic bat, wich I would be glad to have in my cities. :P
Oh, my, :o I definitely have to agree with BarbarossaS. I think it's perfectly acceptable as it is, and quite marvelous at that. &apls The scale difference between the RL columns and yours is inconsequential, IMO. I wouldn't agonize over it any further. Keep up the magnificent work! I look forward to when I can fill the downtown areas in my region with these masterpieces of yours (which I am nowhere near ready to do, so you have LOTS of time! :D)
-- Don
Your version does feel taller and lighter. The real thing is kind of squat and heavy. I think your version is perfectly fine though. The real thing is one of those buildings that just doesn't translate perfectly into Sim City. Just eyeballing it, it strikes me that this one wasn't going to go into the arbitrary 16m across tile. The real thing is just a little a few units too wide. Probably would be perfect 18m across, but then it wouldn't be a wall to wall in game. All and all, I think your version is great and I wouldn't sweat the slight difference in proportions.
spa makes an excellent point "$Deal"$ ... and another thing along those lines: it's been my experience (with my limited number of BATs) that things always seem shorter in-game anyway as opposed to in BAT. It may just be the nature of the non-perspective view in the game, I guess. &mmm So ... that all being said, I think what you have done is terrific, and I hope you'll grow to be comfortable with it. Of course, I know how hard it is when it's yours ... you want it to be perfect in your eyes! ;)
-- Don
moin everybody,
hey, ... thanx a lot you guys for backing this up.
you know exectly how i is ... it's like putting something of ourself into it ??? :P
i try to find buildings wich are 16m in there width, sometimes it fits perfectly somtimes don't ... as in life! :D
if you we do things, it has to be in the right way and proper, of course!
we are at Sim City 4 Devotion after all!
anyway, cheers to you!
and here you go ...
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg300.imageshack.us%2Fimg300%2F5656%2F4244bondstreet04.jpg&hash=a077e121e4dec9f488f312aedb112157b1b9f20f)
next things to do:
i got this new idea to put old newspaper and a bit rubish onto the backalley, like it used to be in the older days :P
have to see if it adds to the realism!
and bit by bit doing the textures ... /wrrd%&
btw. should i add some windows to the firewall (like at the other buildings) ... the original hasn't got some, at least there are not visible (because of buildings W2W next to it)?
b_schlurf
Looks awesome :)
the details are great!
can´t wait to see more
Perhaps you should make it look like windows were once there on the fire-wall, but bricked up? does that make sense?
like this,

How about outlines of a building that used be next to it and right on top of those lines some graffiti art, so it looks like they were standing on the roof of the gone building? This way you can add graffiti higher up a wall without it looking unrealistic I think.
I'm looking forward what you come up with :)
Cheers!

131080: thats a good idea which i will take in serious consideration. i used it on 45 East 20th Street already ... so after the current going without ... i will do it for the next W2W building, i promise!
so for now ... here is a finished building!
42-44 Bond Street %BUd%
as you can see the groundfloor looks quite different to the original ... i changed the look to have it more older_looking :P
hope you like it?

next thing could be another building (wich will be one of New York, of course) or i'm gonna complete the stuff i've already done, to have them on the LEX
i bet you prefer the last suggestion! let me know ...
thanx to everybody!
b_schlurf
I like your last suggestion! I couldn't handle you making another AMAZING BAT until I am able to put some of your buildings in my city, your creations are such a tease so far becasue they are awesome and I know exactly where to put them in my city.
Nice work on finishing the building, I really like the way it turned out!
The older looking look gives it that little extra ;D
As for what's up next: it's a rather difficult choice: on the one hand I'm dying to have your buildings in my city, so I'd like you to take them to the LEX. On the other hand, if you make more buildings before you apply for the LEX, we'll have even more excellent buildings to enjoy!
-Stijn-
maybe a wider building in a similar style. with some kind of large arch on the front?
i love the old/gritty style ya got going here....beautiful work.
bud
Wow! Beautiful buildings! Your textures are excellent, the details beautiful and the buildings you choose to model awesome! We need more buildings like these - watertowers! Yes! :D
Great job, can't wait to use them! &apls
I love these buildings and cant wait to place them in my city! Please upload so we can use them! You are really good at batting and these building are very nice because there are not too many people doing new york style buildings like you. And the quality of your work is inspiring.
How about one of these buildings?
http://www.nyc-architecture.com/MID/MID121.htm
or maybe this one
http://www.nyc-architecture.com/SCC/SCC035.htm
or this one

moin guys,
first: 96 Spring Street is available on STEX
sorry for being absent lately and in the future, but university is keeping me very busy!
baconrocky: thanx, the first bat is available on STEX now, plopable, at least a start ... hope to get it growable too!
Stijn: ... don't worry, you'll get it! cheers!
mightygoose: ... like your suggestion of a wider building and have choosen one, ... but for now without the big arch
buddybud: thanx mate, you doing a great job too!
Howling: thanks a lot!
B Man Stan: cheers mate, and welcome to SD4C, hope you will enjoy you membership!
if i got some time to spent in the future you will get this building ...

cheers
b_schlurf
edit: cheers for your suggestions B Man Stan, but you came about 2 minutes to late ... but i think you will like my choice ... :P
wow, nice choice. Id love to see you do it!
wow great choice! Can't wait to see it! How's lotting the buildings? Do you need a hand in that? Making them growable and/or ploppable?
moin guys,
i need some help: i followed the tutorial over at simtropolis how to make a growable lot for spring street 96, but somehow it won't grow in my city. its has a grow stage of 7 and the demand is there to let it grow, but ... i don't know. i had my plug in files cleared and the maxis blocker was activated. maybe there are other methods of testing if it works.
... some progress:
i'm already working on the gambler building ...
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg14.imageshack.us%2Fimg14%2F9532%2Fgrablerbuilding.jpg&hash=b93a08d4dc171cdb0070be544f63a9cbcae6bf7b)
still have to do the roof_stuff, the window_blinds and texturing ...
cheers
b_schlurf
I really love your stuff, and this one is no exception . Great job.
-Pingangster
moin everybody,
thanks a lot for your interest!

... still some things to do!
... and here another building of New York. Let's see if you can guess wich one! a clue: it's close to union square ...
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg33.imageshack.us%2Fimg33%2F8452%2F905thavenue04.jpg&hash=f2ce2524a5be6e6a13cea60b316f7ec5180422c1)

Wow, impressive attention to details on buildings. Looks really nice so far.
I'm thrilled any time I see your new post here in the "new replies list", beutelschlurf, wondering how will you amaze me this time. And I'm never dissapointed :). Your modelling skills are great... and you make me want to start modelling as well .
The new building is West 14th St and 5th Ave (http://static.panoramio.com/photos/original/8743958.jpg), I guess.
That last pic is amazing. Can't wait to see it finished :o
moin everybody,
thanx to everyone ... who came along!
did'nt have much time lately, ...
to Gwail: you're right it's 90 5th Avenue! ... in New York %BUd%
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg40.imageshack.us%2Fimg40%2F5023%2F905thavenue.jpg&hash=a79511d3c3d744cd1615d8db5d21b2240e71195c)
that's the next project ...
but while you're waiting, you should have some fun with the next upload to the STEX, it is 42-44 Bond Street!
thanx
b_schlurf
moin guys,
sorry for double-posting ... &mmm
..., but here you get some progress:
you remember the Grabler Building?
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg31.imageshack.us%2Fimg31%2F5938%2Fgrabler01.jpg&hash=6ef1948f5bd50270436e13485b8170426d555a0e)(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg31.imageshack.us%2Fimg31%2F1599%2Fgrabler02.jpg&hash=dae2bdba37ffd22654fa51ecc748584d0ca4976b)
it will come as a industrial lot 2x2, would I-m be suitable?
in some details i'm not sure about it's appearance: :P
shall i open up every blind in the frontview, add some things in the backyard, maybe roofing, ...
what do you think?
thanx a lot
b_schlurf
The building looks very good. Love the signages. I like the blinds as they are, they give the building more visual interest. The only thing I'm not sure are the colors, might be a bit too dark (the roof is almost as dark as the absolute black of the background), I think brighter tones would make it fit better once it's placed in game.
As DebussyMan said, i would make the roof brighter. Apart from that, i think it's ready to be released.
Can't wait for more! ::)
Good looking building! But maybe it wouldn't look to good in the middle of an industrial area. Maybe the bottom floors are industrial buisneses, but maybe the top floors are residential? I really don't know, but thats what it looks like to me.
Besides lightening up the roof texture, you should also add a bit more "junk". Since we mostly see the roofs in the game, it's not bad to exagerate right?
I'll be looking foward for it's release!
Hey there beutelschlurf!
The building looks very good, as do all of the buildings I have seen i you thread :)
Keep up the good work
Regards
Iskrem
moin guys,
thanx to DebussyMan, emmotic, just_a_guy, iskrem and everyone else for your interest, i'll take every suggestion from you in seriously account. especially the change of the brightness! ... and add probably a bit more junk! :P
sometimes i can't figure out how to do a texture that fits nicely, ... SimFox mentioned it earlier that i have to do the shaded sites brighter. i'm gonna follow his advise in the future, as well!
... in the meantime, have a lock at this one (clue: it's in New York %BUd% )
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg43.imageshack.us%2Fimg43%2F9182%2F5267thavenue01.jpg&hash=b10cce407fd3159709f3bd7ae05e32c755ba8d4a)
tell me what you think!
ähm, for the next time i'll do no bating/loting/uploading(Stex) for some time, because i'm doing my degree at university and need therefore every time i can get!
now and then i'll leave a comment anyway ...
cheers to everybody
b_schlurf
I must say, your attention to detail is astonishing. It seems like every preview is top-notch work! Really, this is great stuff, b_schlurf! Great job!
As far as the Grabler building is concerned, I don't know if you've already finished the modding for it or not, but might I suggest including a R$$ loft version? A lot of older downtown factories have been converted into apartments in recent years, and I know that nofunk has done the same thing with some of his industrial BATs. Just some food for thought; the building is terrific as is!
moin everybody,
still doin' my degree ..., but, you know, you just can't stay away from the site! ... so i resently came across some picture where i spoted some of my buildings,
what i thought was: hey something is wrong there. it seems that my bat's are somehow not in the proper scale, i allways multiplied with 1.4 after modeling, cause 1.3 would'nt fit to me (probably, because of my screen-settings) so, what i'm askin' you guys now, is to help me out please! if you got my bats and experienced something similiar i just pointed out, i would be a great help if you vote in the poll or make a statement.
... in the end it's all about improving and geting good bats ...
thanx a lot
b_schlurf
N juten Morjn! :D
According to that last pic I really wondered if it even was a model or a real life picture, because of its realism, looks great already! even without textures.
so you're from Berlin aswell?
I hope your university stuff is turning out well for you, I also still need to write an essay for university... but at the moment batting seems to be the better fun!
Grüß dich!
Ps: seems like you're a fan of the elder new yourk city architecture? ;)
And what's the matter with the Königsberger Klopse? $%Grinno$%
Du checkst es halt ab, Alter!
Sehr schöne Gebäude, zwar nicht mein Style, aber perfekt!!!

Hi b_schlurf!
Your bats are absolutely stunning! Incredible details and excellent textures--you do marvelous work, bravo!
I think your scale problem is this--if I understand your post correctly, you are enlarging the entire building by 130% when you export, but you should only be enlarging the Z scale (height). This is what is making your buildings look too big in-game.
The idea is that the isometric view of SC4 causes normally scaled BATs to look squashed, and so the rule-of-thumb is to stretch them by a third
vertically once you've finished modeling them for export to SC4.
Hope this helps, and keep up the great BATting work--but don't mess up your school to do so ;)
btw, since you are doing NYC W2W lofts and downtown commercial buildings, did you tweak the site dimensions of your BATs to work as w2w in-game from the outset, or are they faithful to RL? If you go back to rescale them and re-export the ones you've already done, you might want to tweak your scaling so that the BATs work as w2w.
Es sit sehr schön, aber ist es normal, der Schatten in der Seite der Building?
It's very nice, but is the shadow normal on the side of the building?
Guillaume
Looks great!
Moin,
your bats are looking always fantastic! The grade of detail is incredible :shocked2:! Why you didn't fall in love with havanna, i could need some help! :D
Grüße
Peter
