Post by: Heblem on August 26, 2007, 03:17:47 PM
Me and pat were planning in doing a realistic mexican mall, this will be a big mall that will include many stores  ;)

The desing will be similar to this mall...
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg505.imageshack.us%2Fimg505%2F4529%2Fp1010118yh5vd2.jpg&hash=d4536e90f9dd668ed63916e967a9f95a33ea71a9)

This what I have now (some boxes  ;D)
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg365.imageshack.us%2Fimg365%2F1598%2Fmall1lh4.jpg&hash=e23cc2c31ae2da9a6a6a50eff69b56da6a466775)

Im planning in doing the next stores and restaurants...

Hooters
Mix Up
Suburbia
Sears
Cinepolis VIP
A food court (a mix of small stores like mc donals, burger king, suhi, etc)
Moy Land
Chilli's
JCPenney

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg262.imageshack.us%2Fimg262%2F8937%2Fmallpjw3.jpg&hash=4066be9167c0b53e81243defd88874d41e5d7259)

Will show the progress of this project here...
The mall will be separability using the shops as props and the lot will have a lot of dependencies more  ;)

The middle section of the roof is suffering from some texture repeating, and the wall textures could probably use raytracing. Its looking amazing though, just needs some minor tweaks.
Title: Re: Plaza Mall project

Title: Re: Plaza Mall project
Post by: autoVino on August 27, 2007, 06:12:07 PM
Aye!  This is amazing!
Be very careful with the size of the lods, though.  There is a maximum amount of textures slabs that you can apply to a s3d file, and if surpassed you get an error 6.  Just a warning.
The texture seems very the same for every roof section of the building, amybe a bit variaty will make this model look perfect!
btw, what zoom is that preview?
Title: Re: Plaza Mall project
Post by: Heblem on August 27, 2007, 08:02:35 PM
autoVino: thanks for the suggestion, its in a scale of 1:4 the mall... this happens if I divide the model and export it sparely?

Will be working on roof complements and for the skylights windows...

I just noticed the roof at the Sanborns has a little bit of wall sticking out where it shouldn't
Title: Re: Plaza Mall project
Post by: Pat on August 27, 2007, 09:02:58 PM

Hey hab im in and ive seen what you done today and wow im loving it very much...  One thought is that maybe seperating the models up a bit IE the anchor stores i can make into props and the main mall section will be the main building...  So that way to avoid any texture conflicts or error 6's as auto said that might help...
Title: Re: Plaza Mall project
Post by: Heblem on August 27, 2007, 09:11:51 PM
figui: I will add a big skylight window in the middle that rpobably you will love  ;)

XiahouDun: Thanks! I noticed that too and some other minior details that i have to fix  ;D

patfirefghtr: Thank you alot! and yeah im thinking about that too in separate the model into pieces so i can avoid that problem as auto and you said...

Post by: rooker1 on August 28, 2007, 06:47:01 AM
I think this is coming along very well.
I do have some suggestions if you don't mind.  I think Sears should be two floors high for sure.  Most of the Sears stores where I live are, specially in the malls.   &idea On second thought, maybe all the corner stores could be two floors high....that may look nice.
Also some malls in my area get additions added to them and they look a little bit different.  The brick or the colour.  Maybe you could do something like that as well.
Last but not the least, maybe the roof could have different textures here and there to show roof repairs over the years.
Anyways, what ever you decide, these are only suggestions of my opinion.
This is going to be a great piece of work!

Good progress!
Couple of thoughts, It is very realistic and for this very reason very boring looking...
I mean it look great (in a mass produced suburbia kind of way) from ground level camera, but the game view shows mostly the roof, so you gonna get out of your way to make it interesting - creative texturing and roof-junking will be important.
Currsntly the texture on th emain section roof is way to stretched, it makes the whole thing look small, toy-like. The best solution if you don't have areally big one  8few thousand, ot at least 2000 pixel in size) is to tile it but not in the modeling program (do you use GMAX??); instead do it in some image editing package where you can layer it with dirt, noise etc to hide the tiling.
Also don't skip on polygons where it counts - that circular thingie... even at that zoom you can see clear stepping, does suppose to have those? or is it suppose to be smooth? If later is the case I guess you better attend to it...
Also there is some clear issue with scale - look at the relative door size of Applebee's and Liverpool.
Also a little suggestion - those "standard" entrances, the one that are placed in corners, i think you made alter then a bit to reflect such a location. And also check the UWV mapping on those as paneling appears to be crooked on the first preview.
Anywho... Hope you wouldn't think that I'm out to get you, or something... just want to give some advise, praises aren't in short supply around here!
Title: Re: Plaza Mall project

patfirefghtr: okey thanks  :)

rooker1: This mall has two floors everywhere, hope you can notice that  ;) probably when I made the skylight view inside  ;) And about the roof is not complete im working on that...

Patriots1228: thanks!

SimFox: Thank you for you constructive criticism!,  as you noticed I haven't started working on the roof and I know I have many things to fix in the roof, the idea of the skylight will make this mall a bit interesting and not bored... About the circular thing (The food court) i didn't noticed about that, i will fix it up with a smooth hopefully, and many thanks to you for this constructive comment  :)

Edit to simfox: about the scale ive fixed already that (the render is a bit old)  ;)

I wouldn't suggest you to make skylight so that you could actually seeing in during the day - it would be highly unrealistic. During the night - yes,but not day. Also don't skip on the lattice when doing it, huge panels of glass 10m across don't add to realism...

ahh, but this is why we learn.
Anyway, love the progress.   &apls  I think the red roof fits more into the style of the building.  As for your question, dividing the model into seperate parts should make it easier and safer to export, that is less chance of crashing, (although longer and more tedious) but only do this if youre model is huge.  To test the size, create a simple lod encompassing the building, hide the actual building, and render the lod.  If it renders with success then you should be fine.  IT may take a while to get through the zoom fives, though.
In order to divide it into seperate parts, it's best to keep the model in the same location when done and to just make the lods different parts of the building (don't forget to rename the files once rendered, otherwise they may get erased) without centering them.  This way you could more easily reconstruct the building in LE.  Man, my spelling is terrible today, please excuse if there are any mistakes I didn't catch.

Title: Re: Plaza Mall project

Coming up nicely!  &apls

Couple of points:
About food court.
That massive concrete wall cutting into it looks a bit odd, but that is a purelly matter of opinion.
But what is really wrong is the relationship between the glass part of the roof/dom and it's lattice. First of all I would suggest to add at list on subdivision to each segment of the lattice. Amount of geometry it would add will be negligible, but looks will improve significantly. But more importantly you should do something about the glass part. Not it is mimicking contiguous smooth surface, while it should be assembly of flat glass plates. Same goes for the "barrel" part as well.
Well sometimes they do use curved glass plates, but those are VERY expensive running into tens of thousands dollars per plate and normally used in most prestigious and posh of places, not a mall food courts...
With JC Penny/McD block - there is an issue with mapping. What did you use? Box mapping? I mean those seems between panels on the vertical bit og the wall do not match those on horizontal... You can actually remove seems from horizontal altogether but if they are still there  take a look at mapping.

Still need to do:
-The main center skylight (a big one)
-Fix some textures that don't show up
-Fix some floor details in entraces of the mall
-Some small details to the roof
-Roof junk (over the mall)
-Nightlights
-Separate the model or exporting...

Thats one nice looking structure.  Very impressed.

Presonally I like the concrete wall sticking out of the dome, it matches the others you have, and is an architectural statment.

I don't think so, the model exceed the 16 squares limit, so there will be two lots for this  ;D

Great work, best mall what I've seen  &apls as good as Goober's work
Only thing what's "wrong" is brown colour, it makes it looks so boring but I guess it's the real colour in North American malls  :)

What do you mean by "16 squares limit"? You can make growables of virtually any size witout any problems, so this could be easily fitted on one lot, including a massive parking lot.

I have to agree that the whole model looks a bit too brownish, and you might try to reduce the saturation of various textures a bit. Some of the roof look a bit like they were made of sand or dust, without any visible structure. Apart from that, this is an amazing model, though, and with or without CAM, this will be an excellent addition to the game.

Hey Hab what you think after reading what andreas said?  Do you think we should see if Barby would set a growable for us, i think it would be great to see this go cam and that would all the more challenging for me
and i love a good challange - pat
Title: Re: Plaza Mall project
Post by: autoVino on September 02, 2007, 11:57:55 AM
it isn't really a 16 square limit, but a 16 texture slab safety limit.  There is a maximum bat size and this bat may reach it.  There is a fix for this in the script and it seems to work sometimes, so huge bats are possible, but generally its rather dissapointing when after many hours your bat has been rendering and then it crashes...  If it doesn't work it should display that the bat is too huge, but for some reason it causes and error 6.
If that doesn't happen and an error occurs then you have reached the gmax ram usage maximum (which is primarily for working with the rendered textures), and unlike in 3ds max, I don't know how to change that.
But this has nothing to do with lot size, its a script thing.

@autoVino: Ah, thanks for the information. I guess it would be possible to slice the model into two or more parts, and render them as separate props, if necessary. SimGoober's large RLS Mall also uses props for the three large department stores, and there is no visible seam due to some tight LODs (I assume he adjusted the LODs to avoid any visual glitches). Anyway, I modified the RLS Mall lot for myself and made it a 18x11 growable, which works just fine. :)

I dont have enough ram to continue in making lights for the model and not sure for exporting this whole thing... (in pieces as i said)

After that Pat will make me a favor in lotting the entire mall then i will upload this soon at CSC   :)

Are you talking about rendering it?  I think there is a ram maximum for gmax, maybe 300mb or so, (like in 3ds max).  I know that in 3ds max you can change that value so probably in gmax you can somehow change it using scripts... but I think this is for image size and storage and stuff like that so it might not effect night lights and such...(check in the task manager and If I'm not mistaken, during rendering gmax will never use more ram then a certain value (300mb?)... I have my ram max for 3ds max set at 700mb, and it usually stays around 698mb or so when rendering complex scenes... )
(gosh, I feel like the grim reaper, bringing in all the bad news...)

just one comment...I might consider scaling down some of the roof junk, it tends to completely overwhelm certain parts of the roof particularly alongside the skylights. This is shaping up to be a great bat. If it does go over the 16 tile limit, you could easily render the building in parts and assemble them in LE...I've had to do this with several of my bats  ::)

I feel like I've confused everyone...  The true limit for the amount of texture slabs is not 16, but much larger (16 times larger I think) it's just that after 16 texture slabs you need to use extra ids which makes things very complicated for the script.  It increases the chance of problms later on (I've had such errors occure before, and this is what I've traced the problem to) such as what if your computer doesn't make it throught he longthy render...  But the fact is that this bat is huge and it will take a long time to render.  Rendering it in parts may prove to be quicker and safer then all at once.

lol, I'm trying to remember if I've posted in here before or not and can't, but I have been looking in on this every once in a while, and I have to say I really like the architecture on this.  The use of the diagonal lines in particular and I love that central skylight and the food court dome.

The only criticism I have is concerning the night lights.  In several places some of the walls on the outside are much brighter than the others(in particular the white ones in the upper right hand corner, and the one beige one down in the lower left hand corner.) that could be due some attenuation settings on the lights by my guess, though it's hard to say.

Well... it would be really cool to have a custom foundation to get rid of those retaining walls in the parking lot, but having done my time in the bat, I don't think I'd blame you at all for rolling your eyes at that comment...(I know I would)

Excellent job on this.

That's not a comment to roll your eyes at... it's quite valid, especially for this size of a lot.
I would also want to see a custom foundation for it.
Otherwise you would have to clear an area sized 10×20 and make it perfectly even before plopping the mall...

The day looks great, but the night looks, well, kind of odd.  Either there is something wrong with the geometry or your lights don't have proper shadows; a majority of those walls shouldn't be lit up like that, it just looks unnatural and can degrade the overall quality of the bat.  Once again, my best guess is that your lights don't have shadows enabled.  If that isn't the case, I would then guess that you have a lot of one-sided geometry that alows the light to leak through the plane.  To help prevent this maybe check the "2-sided" option in the texture section, it should help.
I'm not saying that the overall modelling and texturing is bad or anything, I'm just saying that you should take that extra step and make it perfect.  :satisfied:

Hey guys gotta special treat for all you mall lovers!
After working with the Goddess and RippleJet this morning in trying to get the textures to work properly, I was able to finish the retexturing of the parking lots using SC4Jeeks Parking lot textures. These textures are not out yet but will make a LEX release near you soon! *wink wink* The lot that Heblem made exceeded the number of items in a lot 1280 items. I took over lotting and also replace the parking lot textures he had used because it didnt really look appealing imho. I also will be adding other goodies when i do the prop lotting part and will be posting pics of that in the next day or so. I hope. I have to work tomorrow and Thursday so that will take up most of my day. In the pics shown below, ignore the black hole you see in the comparison pic. I had missed those textures when I was replacing them. I hope you guys enjoy my progress on this massive lot and I look forward in presenting you the final product. Believe me there are things I have planned for this beautiful mall!

Again ignore the black hole you see or you may get sucked in!

hey all i am hoping to get the lighting phase of the lots done this weekend then moving onto the eyecandy and detail phase then finally the seasonal trees. I have been experimenting with different lightcones to use and i must say they are a pita to deal with bc one angle theyre fine and then another rotation and it appears offset. ive decided to wing it and make the best of it. i have work all day saturday so i will try to see if i have time to move on with the lighting phase if i decide to stay home...if not then daytime sunday i can do more work on it then show some treats. i do have a small treat for you guys of a shot of what the mall will look like at its busiest. i have used a prop family of cars during the day so the number of cars on the parking lot varies depending on the time of the day. apparently it starts to dwindle when it gets dark and is usually empty around 9pm but its sounds right the mall does close around that time right? if you want to show some cars on the parking lot at night, toggle the day night option and when the parking lots are close to its peak toggle the night time mode on and take a screenie. so yeah here is my timeline i have set for myself to get these lotting done in phases:
phase 1: parking texture lotting *completed* last tuesday
phase 2: car props lotting *completed* last wednesday
phase 3: adding the parking lot lights and light cones *50% completed* should be finished by sunday (tentative could be monday)
phase 4: adding prop detail and mall eyecandy *has not yet begun* (should proceed after completion of lightcones)
phase 5: adding cycledoggs seasonal trees *has not yet begun*
phase 6: adding the final details and finishing touches *has not yet begun*
phase 7: final modding and upload to the LEX *surprise surprise*

before i leave my treat as promised:

Ryan, I'm trying to see if I can make a CAMpatible growable LOT with this baby, and I want to know what the lot size is for the one you have?

If I put it in the PIM-X / X Tool and make a CS$$ lot, it suggest that it be 9x14 and makes it a stage 5 growable, but I doubt that all the other smaller Plaza Mall Props would fit in.

Judging from your image, I think it would best be suited to a 15x20 LOT, but then the growth stage drops to 2.  &mmm

Its occupant size, as suggested by the PIM-X, is CS$$ 4,082 and CS$ 16,319 when dilapidated. What do you, Barby, Tage and Heblem think of this?

@M: the current lot size for this lot is 18 wide 24 deep just so ya know.

Thanks, I managed to get it to be 15x20 tiles. I'll PM you an image.

It will be a CAM CS$$ Stage 5 with 8 377 jobs. :)

Loving the mall top notch work...its about time someone else made a REAL mall. There hasnt been a mall like this since the Surb Mall that Goober made way back. Was curious about if you could put in a Non Cam lot of it for those of us who do not use the CAM. That or...is turning it from a CAM lot to a non CAM lot as easy as just changing the building growth stage e.g. from whatever stage you set it for to like stage 1-7 like whats in the Vanilla game.

Thanks

P.S.

Any chance you gonna make a modular like one? where you can put together different malls piece by piece?

As long as the growth stage is 8 or below, you don't need the CAM to get it to grow for the commercial buildings. ;)

Well as me and -M- was discussing most likely this will be a CAM Stage 5 lot meaning its backwards CAMpatible with the vanilla game so people who have not migrated to the CAM yet can still use it since its not Stage 9 or above. (correct me if im wrong  :-[ )

Great job so far, and I can't wait for this to be released, as like SimNation said the only other BAT mall is SG's mall. As long as this comes as a ploppable too I'll be happy.

Looking great so far. Can't believe I didn't catch this thread earlier.

One minor problem with the building is that it should be scaled upward. Some of the doors look too short for people to enter, and the whole building itself seems a little short. SimCity does this to a lot of buildings because of the perspective, so I usually stretch my buildings a bit before rendering.

That's only a minor problem, though. It's really looking great, lots of amazing detail there. Also a great use of parking lot textures.  ;D

Post by: Filasimo on September 23, 2007, 02:58:22 PM
Alrighty kiddos as I have promised that I would try my hardest to meet my own set deadlines, I have finished the parking lights and light cones phase. They were a pita to deal with since the cones had to be slightly offset to look decent at different viewing angles. I have some goodies to show you all and I hope you all enjoy! Next phase will be adding prop detail and mall eyecandy and I should have it ready hopefully by Monday before I head out to my usual squeaky hole. ( Work is light this week and I just got paid w0000t! ) So here is an update of my schedule for this lot thats really starting to blossom but the way I see it weve only just begun!.  ;)

phase 1: parking texture lotting *completed* last tuesday
phase 2: car props lotting *completed* last wednesday
phase 3: adding the parking lot lights and light cones *completed Sunday today*
phase 4: adding prop detail and mall eyecandy ( Should be finished by Monday if not Tuesday )
phase 5: adding cycledoggs seasonal trees (should be Tuesday or most likely Wednesday)
phase 6: adding the final details and finishing touches *has not yet begun*
phase 7: final modding and upload to the LEX *surprise surprise*

Now for the treats:

Corner part of the mall where there is a lovely Starbucks (gotta love it)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg102.imageshack.us%2Fimg102%2F4274%2Fparkinglotlightsgy0.jpg&hash=99be8390a6c92f46d3938995dd3451017cea77b1)

The Opposite corner part of the mall where you got Krispy Kreme Donuts...mmmmm Donuts....*drool*  and Red Lobster

Til the next update STAY TUNED!

PS: Depending on how much I have left on item count limitations I may add more lights if I can but then again some malls dont have many lights to cut back on electricity use since the mall itself is huge anyways  :P

phase 5: adding cycledoggs seasonal trees (should be Tuesday or most likely Wednesday)

Since each seasonal tree is made out of four props, you might have to be careful not use them too extensively.
Depending on how close to each other they will be, four individual evergreen trees might look better that one single seasonal tree.
Title: Re: Plaza Mall project

@RippleJet: Yeah my plan is to strategically place them where how you would actually see them placed when you go to the mall. I do know that some malls dont have many trees but they put them in particular areas of the mall. So I will take that into consideration and thanks for stopping by!  :)

Hey everyone just an update on the lot....been busy since monday so have not been able to work on the lotting. RL picked up a bit the past few days so I hope to start on it again sometime towards the end of the week. I will give you guys a chance with suggestions for what kind of props should go around the mall area other than the seasonal trees i will add. Since it will be in your city, you the player should have some input. whoever participates with this i will consider the best ideas and suggestions and see if i can add them according to whats available in the prop packs that are in the LEX...til now STAY TUNED and also make sure to voice your input as well

Post by: Filasimo on September 30, 2007, 02:38:21 AM
Hey guys lotting this mall has been a great task for me and I would like for your guys opinion I would like to know which of the three base textures you would like added to the mall area:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg222.imageshack.us%2Fimg222%2F9782%2Ftexturechoicesqs6.jpg&hash=84356aad53446d8da46ec09ce3fd4adf1413691a)

The darker grey style which is the left tile,      The brownish, greyish style which is the center tile,   or the palish looking style .

The style that gets the most votes will be added on the lot. Thanks for your votes guys!

The left one. But is there a smaller version available?
Title: Re: Plaza Mall project

I would also go with the left style, it suits the roof and entrances.

The left one stands out a bit more in contrast to the building, so make that 3 votes. ;)

Grey style:

Vote so far is 6 for the Brown, 4 for the Grey. Thanks again everyone that has voted!

7-4, Browns leading... ::)

Title: Re: Plaza Mall project ( Texture Maker Needed )
Post by: Filasimo on September 30, 2007, 05:17:37 PM
Seems like the brown style is winning. Hence the infamous quote: " What can Brown do for you?" hehe. Im looking for a texture maker to develop custom textures for the mall lot. There are some areas in the lot that need textures for that particular area. I also will need that maker to make special base textures with whats in that lot to reduce the item count for the lot so I can avoid using overlays. If you are a texture maker and are interested in helping me, please PM me and we can talk from there. I will most likely give you the package of whats all in the lot so everything shows up properly. Another option I was going to do was cover up the areas where the textures and overlays dont line up but you can only go so far with that. Anyways once the vote gets to 13, The style that is ahead will be added in the mall lot. Thanks to everyone who has voiced their input on this amazing lot that I am lotting. I figured since its going to be in your cities why not let you guys have some input on it.

I will be having some progress shots on the lotting in my next post which will hit the thread after i get back from my usual watering hole. Miso needs a beer! hehe. Til then STAY TUNED!  ;)

[EDIT: immediately after i made the request Chris came to the rescue! Thanks so much Chris! I look forward working with ya on the textures!

Hey guys just thought id share some progress on lotting with what time I have used this weekend. Ill see if I can get more done this week but it is a very busy week for me.With a knockout of 9-3 The brown style wins and was used for the base texture around the mall. So without further ado....

phase 1: parking texture lotting *completed*
phase 2: car props lotting *completed*
phase 3: adding the parking lot lights and light cones *completed*
phase 4: adding prop detail and mall eyecandy *completed*
phase 5: adding cycledoggs seasonal trees *completed*
phase 6: adding the final details and finishing touches *99.9% completed*
phase 7: final modding and upload to the LEX *surprise surprise Stay glued to the LEX!*

Alright Alright! I am proud to unveil the full plaza mall lot in its entirety. It was my first time to ever put the shots i took together to show the whole mall. Both pics shown shows the mall during the day and during the night with some day shots chipped in. Whats left is 2 extra textures Chris Adams is making for me to add to the parking lots ( theres some lines visible on the main drive and me no like bad medicine!  :P ) After that is final packaging and readme development and its off for scrutineering and uploading. Expect a release very very very soon! I had a blast and some hairpulling in the process of lotting this awesome mall Heblem made and this is just the beginning of the great lots coming from me. Expect more lots in the future!  Tomorrow I will be posting zoomed in shots of parts of the mall so you all can see how detailed the lot is and what you can expect to see ingame in your suburban areas. That most likely wont be til monday afternoon ( gotta wake up at 4am for a huge project im doing at one of my stores in my territory for the company from 5am to 10am ) but im sure these pics will keep ya waiting eagerly to see more hehe. Anyways without further ado:

Thats all for now! Next update Monday afternoon. STAY TUNED!

[Edit] For you who are wondering if the lot will be TEd, the answer is yes. Only the main entrances will be and not the smaller ones since it will look tacky. As for the Krispy kreme, some restaurants by the mall do not have mall acess  ;)

The size alone is enough for a "Wow" effect, but the amount of work that went into the model, the lot and all the additional stuff is astounding. Great job!  &apls

Thanks for all the kind replies guys. Its 4:20am and im fixing to head out to the store for my work project. Also another fact i left out. I did mention i scaled back on some props so i can add more trees was because a lot alone allows only 1280 items. This includes base textures, overlays, props, etc etc. Well knowing how large this lot was i had to pretty much balance it all out which is why i did the lotting in phases.. you can easily say i lotted this 6 times  :D...Anyways Stay Tuned for the next update!

Just a reminder... every TE tile in your lot will require its own Data line in the LotConfig exemplar.
If (as I understood) you already had exactly 1,280 items, you will not be able to add any TE tiles to that... $%Grinno$%

well shucks.....what do you guys think? scale back on props to make it TE enabled or keep it as it is?

I personally don't like TE LOTs and would prefer more props. But hey! That's my view.  ;D
Title: Re: Plaza Mall project
Post by: DFire870 on October 08, 2007, 05:09:49 AM
I don't like TE lots (especially since if you put them in the wrong spot, traffic will use them as a shortcut) that much either,so I say keep it as is.

Post by: Filasimo on October 08, 2007, 07:48:02 AM
hey DFire congrats on making 200th post here in the thread  &apls I had no idea it was going to get to where it is now. Anyways as promised I have more zoom in pics to show and a backdrop of the backside of the mall. That one was a PITA bc i had trouble filling in the gaps of white  :'(. Anyways I will have to adjust some props bc apparently as I was taking pics i noticed sims skewing the building walls. I also may scrap the lot being TE enabled due to fully utilizing the lot's item allowance. If you guys would like to add it in SC4Tool be my guess and you can use it for your own use. Also as Dfire had mentioned, sometimes its not good to have TE lots due to the shortcut issue that was mentioned. Also if you lay that mall and it grazes another TE lot it may CTD. Also whats left is those additional textures from Chris who is working on them I will add on when theyre ready.... so anyways without further ado:

The Mall's backside....sexy isnt it?

Patfirefightr for staying up and keeping me sane during the late nights while working on this

RippleJet for all his wonderful help in the technical development of this mall and also for giving me some great pointers!

ChrisAdams3997 for making additional parking lot textures to blend perfect with Walkingsnake's parking lot textures which he has the best parking lot textures i have ever seen

The BSC Team for developing all these great props that were used in the mall lot

LBT Team for using some props and support at CSC and private threads

NHP Team for support at this project

CSC Team  for support at this project

And most of all to:

The members of SC4Devotion for stopping by and also for participating in that survey I had about what base texture to put around the mall area

More precisely, the CTD occurs if you hover with a NAM puzzle piece above a TE lot.

Post by: Filasimo on October 10, 2007, 08:13:27 AM
Hey guys,
Just a brief update. Currently we are developing the readme and final arrangements and testing for the lot. All I can say is I hope you like dependencies!   Also Chris has delivered the last 2 textures I need for the lot so I will get on that today after I get home from work. As for the malls release to the LEX....itll be released when its released hehe.....but its sooner than you think!  ;) Anyways keep posted in this thread for further updates and developments.
Ryan

Also coming soon will be a smaller version of the plaza mall for your urban areas, and also some of the department stores single lot.....the smaller version will be done by me and -M- while the single lots will be done by me so yes, There will be other goodies to come out of this bigger version. This mall is so realistic, even the brand new Krispy Kreme is already abandoned :D(The rendered lot has no cars...)
Seriously, leave it, a good subtle reference*

I love the mall lot, parking in LE is such a pain and so easy to screw up, and you got it right.

but whats interesting is that they did start in the south, which is their traditional territory. Winston-Salem, NC is where they are from I think

Personally I miss KK. Here in Texas we mainly have Shipley's, and for all the hype their donuts are puny little puffs of air. KK's are nice and thick ()stsfd(). But then I havent had Dunkin Donuts, so thats another one we don't have..

Apparently it can and does. I once read a great post on how its just as important for a new building not only look amazing but function just as well.

And you're a SC4 Fan. You should know that projects get finished when they're finished by now... :D

Cheers,

To both Dragonhardz and Heblem,

I am one of the scrutineers of the BSC team and associates who have a look at all projects offered for download on the LEX.

We, and I think I speak for all of us, have a high standard regarding quality. Our goal is to make sure that every and all uploads to our exchange abide to certain quality standards. This testing takes time, lots of time ... FREE time.

I for one do not like to be rushed. Not by anybody and not at all when it deals with my free time.

Bad karma points for the both of you.

There is no other way we will deal with our scrutineer jobs then the way we do now.
Title: Re: Plaza Mall project
Post by: Heblem on October 20, 2007, 04:32:09 PM
There has been some problems during the scrutineering, maybe this file will not be uploaded to the lex for personal situations.

Many thanks to everyone who helped me with this project ;) very appreciate...
Please a moderator lock this thread

Now everything seems to be fine... getting this right

I have already apologized via PM, but I want to do it publicly as well.

Serkanner, sorry I made you feel rushed. Patience has never been my strong suit  :-[ I am in no way dissatisfied with the way things operate here. I became excited and was being a TM. Again, sorry, and next time, I think I'll just say "Good Luck, Heblem!"

So.....Good Luck, Heblem, and may the Scrutineers of SC4D smile upon you and your creation!

wow seems like i missed most of today at sc4d land worked all day then hung with my cousin and her friends...anywho dragonshardz you know better than to rush things....testing and making sure lots are good to go take time. an adjustment here and a adjustment there. to challenge the people who make sure that quality lots are uploaded to this exchange is really uncalled for. yes i am also eager to have this lot that i have spent my free time on to finish in 3 weeks out for everyone to use, but one must acknowledge that in order to make it a successful and high quality content that things must be looked over and the T's and the I's are crossed and dotted. So when we say itll be released when released please respect that, you know better than that kiddo. Anyways as I always say: STAY TUNED!

Thank you.

woops forgot to answer rock's question the plaza mall lot will be 18x24 meaning 24 wide 18 back with the restaurants facing the front...thats the front part of the mall.

Not with the current lot layout, since each TE tile takes up one extra line in the lotconfig data structure, and this mall already hit the maximum of 1,280 items.

The Mall is great work indeed

However I am having to hold off the  &apls for the moment until I track down a missing dependency.

I have all the dependencies as listed and linked in the Mall Readme file

However the SC4Tool is telling me I am still missing this: PEG-MTP-Resource-2_b101.dat
And it shows with 1/2 the base texture missing in the game.

I have searched high and low on LEX, STEX and PLEX for that dat but of not luck

To make things even more interesting it seems I can not re texture the missing textures with my own in LE and I find that even more frustrating  &sly to try and get round the issue.

Any help or links to that dat file or unlocking the editing would be of much help

Other wise not too many dependencies - just a bugger searching around but worth it once its all ready.

That is a false dependency. This is the dependency list:
-BSC MEGA Props - SG Vol 01
-BSC Textures Vol 1
-BSC Textures Vol 2
-BSC BAT Props jen_p vol 03
-CSX MEGA Props -vol 03
-CP Mega Prop pack -vol01-LBT Prop Pack 1
-LBT Prop Pack 2
-LBT Plaza mall Props
-LBT Plaza mall Essentials
-LBT Restaurant VIPs
-ALN Plaza Mall Textures ChrisAdams3997
-NDEX Texture Set Volume 1
-SG Commercials Models Restaurants simgoober
-PEG Krispy Kremes And Police Station
-PEG MTP Resource vol1
-WalkingSnake Parking Textures
-SG Extras

All these are linked in the Readme which is loose in the zip.

That was what I used Barby, I used Cleanitol, and clicked every link there in the Readme to make sure I had ALL the dependencies and yet I still get missing texture as I have named above...

Again a single link to Resource 2 b 101 dat or point where it is would be helpful (or letting me redo the base textures for personal use of the lot only)
Title: Re: Plaza Mall project

Shouldn't other people be able to edit the lot, incase they want to make it so that it works for their city? For example, my cities tropical, so it would be nice if i were able to edit the lot and replace the seasonal trees with palms.
Title: Re: Plaza Mall project
Post by: dragonshardz on October 24, 2007, 05:18:50 PM
you can edit the lot, but you can't release the edit without permission. and I know the "false" dependency is over at PEG's somewhere...
Title: Re: Plaza Mall project
Post by: Pat on October 24, 2007, 08:11:36 PM

Patriots yes you can edit the lot to your liking.... far as i know Ryan has said and Tage that if add more it will max out and start to make things disappear due to 1280 items max allowed on a lot...  You can of course start from scratch and delete everything from the lot and do it yourself too... What i suspect that palp is experiencing is a unique problem...

interestingly enough I've made my 2525th post here lol
Title: Re: Plaza Mall project
Post by: Palpatine001 on October 25, 2007, 02:22:59 AM
Yes it is a very unique problem

and I suspect my LE could be playing up as well

Before I decide to relot the entire thing here is 2 pics of my the scanner showing the missing files

http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p5/Palpatine001/Fracked1.jpg

http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p5/Palpatine001/Fracked2.jpg

Cleanitol has been used and the folders organised properly

And yes I downloaded and updated ALL dependencies listed in the README

Errr anyhelp as this is a great lot - minus the missing base textures...

ok everyone due to the extent of some testing and some member testing of the lot after its release there are some undetected problems that need to be addressed such as parking lot poles showing up with the lamp pole props and also some LOD issues with the building itself. if anyone has already downloaded this mall, please show some pics of the mall to verify the recent findings. once the problems have been addressed an update will be provided.

again thanks for your support and apologies are given to all

ok sorry for triple posting but i have some good news and bad news that you may or may not like to hear....
First off, there are LOD issues with the mall model itself such as the bases of the building are incorrect, also the lamp props are showing up also the streetlights prop also making it look really tacky.....as a result i will have to remove it and make sure its working properly afterwards... BUT i will be able to add more eyecandy props as a result....i would like to know what else could be added to the lot since i have more breathing room i was thinking about adding more seasonal trees but any other suggestions are welcome  again we apologized for the inconvenience's that this has caused everyone  :-[ anyways let the suggestions begin!

BarbyW: Already have that texture pack in question however I'll recheck my plugin folder to make sure everything is where it should be.

In the meantime LE is allowing me to Re-Edit the Mall so I am going to shrink the lot a little and remove some of the carparks and replace it with underground parking, also I'll replace the textures as well to get round the problem

But now I can give a  &apls for a great mall - just a shame my end seems to be screwed up  :angrymore:
Title: Re: Plaza Mall project
Post by: Chrisadams3997 on October 25, 2007, 02:49:02 PM
Well Palp, an ingame or LE pic of the lot will let us know better what your missing, but any texture starting with 0xf338xxxx, as Barby said, is one of my textures, so it looks like you missed that pack.
Title: Re: Plaza Mall project
Post by: Palpatine001 on October 25, 2007, 07:18:18 PM
After much frustration  ()testing() of trying to hunt down a missing texture set for the LBT Plaza Mall, I decided to relot the beast and alter a few things around.

For one I shrunk the depth from 24 to 23 tiles before removing some surface carparks and replacing them with another parking garage, a bus stop and a construction site where underground parking will be.
I also took care of the missing textures by replacing them with others I had in my LE collection while leaving the lot properties alone for now and this is what I came up with

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi124.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fp5%2FPalpatine001%2FSolarianCity-JulPMoverview.jpg&hash=b9e5b53623217bd5da0590157da3dccd71a70792)

and closer up this

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi124.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fp5%2FPalpatine001%2FSolarianCity-PMoverviewcloserup.jpg&hash=000ab4efe79da892368e7026a64bef286ed8a4ba)

Not too much has changed, just needed to get round the texture issue

Otherwise again  &apls to the creators of Plaza Mall  :shocked2:

Hello LBT's good members and all  :)

I have some problem about Dependecies same Palpatine001 (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=2171.msg84302#msg84302) and Heblem (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=2171.msg84609#msg84609) posted.  &mmm
Of course, I already have all of dependencies-files wrote on Readme.

and I opend a LOT with LE. Please look this one.

These base-textures are not disply correct too.

Do you have any idea ?? ()what()

However, This big Plaza-Mall is wonderful and powerful work!! &apls
Thank you for sharing them LBT teams !!

relic san,
domo arrigato gozaimasu for visiting the thread and also pointing it out. im bout to load LE and take a look...keep posted ill be updating this in a min or so

[edit] After looking in LE there apparently is some strange texture conflicts or issues when overlays are placed on top of it although some base textures that are missing do not have overlays...it also may be the cause that even if you hit the item threshold at 1280, the lot may be unstable.. since i will be relotting and taking out some prop issues that  were undetected at time of finalizing i will test around further and have some people testing it. expect an update to the plaza mall in the LEX in the coming days. as i mentioned before since ill have more free space for adding more props (which will be the same props in the prop packs that are deps for this lot so no worries) i will also adress this issue as well.. so as anyways STAY TUNED for the update fix to the lot

Ryan

PS: also the model pack will also be updated also due to some LOD issues that the mall model had that also were not detected during testing.

hey guys i have one thing for you all to do if you have the plaza mall....anyone interested and would like to report back to me regarding the texture issues...if you are interested i would like for you to create a new plugin folder with just the mall and deps or if you have startup manager to set everything thats related to the plaza mall....run LE and see if everything shows....another theory i have could be a texture conflict with other textures that some people have...ive seen other pics of the mall by other members and the textures are showing up fine. if you are interested in doing the procedures i just mentioned, i would like feedback from you guys...again thanks for your support and cooperation with this project.

Ryan I'm reporting in here with what i found.... Well I downloaded everything again on the list and put everything to to the desktop before installing.... I then moved everything from my plugins folder as you said... then i wen threw and clicked on all the installers... What i did to avoid any confusion i set up separate folder for all the read mes and cleanital files and installers.... Once i was done installing that dependency i moved the installer to the junk folder with the read mes and cleanital files...

So i repeated the process over and over again till all the files was installed in the plugins folder... I then went threw in my plugins folder i setup a folder "plaza mall lot by Ryan" sub folders for "plaza mall dependency", then "essentials" and then "plaza mall by Hab".... I then moved stuff around accordingly to fit in folders as follows....

Pat, I also suggest loading that lot in the LE as well with all of your plugins. It will take longer, but it can't hurt to be sure.

Ok after playing Solarian City with the changes I made, the mall is running Stable and has made a great edition to the city.

Will keep you posted on anything else that crops up

Some New business i let my game run today for about 2 games years and still nothing has shown up far as street light post by the fancey light post? ?  ?  im baffeled here as the only thing have done really is just organized my plugins folder to allow any manipulation without any harm to cam lol... That is why i have my folder structered to the max.... Here is a sample to what ive done its just a Small Idea [Linkie] (http://img141.imageshack.us/my.php?image=mosaicxv2.jpg),  The folders you see are not the only ones in each folder there is more folders accourding to downloads or menu items ie civic stuff and so forth...
