你好 everyone and Welcome to the Whale's Christchurch ;D
The city was built in the Christchurch region, which was created by the NHP team and i have made some modification.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fbtp7rg.bay.livefilestore.com%2Fy1pdYr4axh2DVmBUFuqe6Q5kXp8GHegX_2MAHMXD1zMicg3sNQC6R0GdSybZsh4Pray66u2GXEGKrW5-soJc32pa1g_OvR8WmRl%2Fmap02.jpg&hash=aff2b69d04fce13a034407bb2cecf1008a1bc7e0)

yeah.. you see i just take advantage of the terrain of real world Christchurch, and the city in game, was totally depended on my willing.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fcuijuq.bay.livefilestore.com%2Fy1pg57InNLOwgLKunU20oZm_w7DdPrfEh_AcG4LDz8LBS-RfIt2nJg-C5ZxvAVb5BW_a1BG2vlOpBG4aSwJF-2eYtqD2LvCDhIN%2FChristchurch.JPG&hash=72c551732aa019197ff69b2e1101d78439eb109d)
This project was probably started in Sep. 2008, when i just leart how to work out my custom plugins by LE.
and thanks to my laziness and lack of ideas, the construction of Christchurch comes slooooowly during these years.
but i always wanna share my best pics to everyone who loves this game, and can't wait to upload when i found a nice one in my city.

As the downtown area of whale's christchurch "Ellesmere" is nearly 80% complete and my chosen image hosting website deleted almost all my upload pics (a 100 days storage limited, not metioned in their policy), i want to get a new fresh start here and collect all my released pics together.
so i decide to start my MD.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fbtp7rg.bay.livefilestore.com%2Fy1pYDEteJEfME3ATW7aw_XlIyKW_-zV9XTG6cuH60DDEfXdhb9UGXTwnapD7f6JMhuP5ekoWh-Wulvq3jt_ZuJl2gjPiJ6ix5PK%2FChristchurch%2520ellesmere.jpg&hash=aafb2cc6caaaabfdd393c1c133dc323195aee233)
The first upload is a district named "Ellesmere" -- the heart of Whale's Christchurch, major habitation and commercial area of this city.
you may see some w2w buildings, small apartment blocks, parks, colleage and a railway system.

tip: all the pics you saw are the resized version. friends who saw my pics before would know, that i prefer huge size mosaics.
i will put the link of the original pic below the resize one, you can see more details from the original.
all the pieces of mosaics were captured at zoom 4, and the full resolution come up to thousands x thousands(the same level or even larger).
and because of my lack at lauguage, i can't give full description for each pic or city's history, or bad gramma makes words twist.
all you can do is see the photos, and ignore what i said %confuso

#1 will become the content for further developments and updating below, the city's pics were posted from 2#.

So let's begin the journey in the Christchurch, Ellesmere. and wish everybody just enjoy my pics.
Please be free to post your reply, if you like them, come up with suggestion, or criticism..

so let's start at Christchurch's central railway station.
the central railway station was a heavy-rail terminal and a transfer metro station.
the platforms of station were underground and trains turnover through some tunnels.
the pic was captured in Sep. 2009, when the city's heavy-rail system have not been electrified yet.

and a night shot, too.

Really fantastic work here, Whale. I've seen tidbits of your work before in other threads, but now that you have a full blown MD, I can't wait to see some more pictures.

Great work here, my friend.

A few of these shots seem quite familiar (picture competition ::)) But that's no problem since their quality is so high I'm quite simply staggered. Your other shots are also of a very high level. And, I don't know wether you've ever been to Europe, but it comes very close to a real European city.
Take care and I can't wait to see more!

PS: I'm actually quite glad you started an MD here.

I just had dinner, and here are some more great pictures.  I don't know why, but your Md always seems to inspire me to build cities in a way that had never crossed my mind before (like using that suspension bridge in that way). Also, those are some of the most realistic mosaics I've ever seen. Looking at those pictures, I can alsmost feel the atmosphere of a real city.
On a side note: instead of posting after yourself, you could also use the "edit" button.

well there are still some more pics today,
so let's continue.

you'll feel hard to learn this:
all these 4 mosaics were cut in one pic. the one i  made a total overview above. the full resolution of the biggest one is 10450x8716.
sorry i can't upload this, for no websites would apply this upload request.
i captured the screemshot at nealy all the airspace of ellesmere in zoom4 and put them together in photoshop.

but i'll say, the photoshopping was not the worst things i did during these days, but the capturing was.
you know.. i got an ati hd3470 graphic card in my notebook, and i wanna full rendered shadow when i print screem.
everyone knows that ati card fit unfriendly with the game,
so.. my game turned down to the PowerPoint, and nearly 15 seconds refresh a new frame.

since those mosaics were pieces of a big one, i'm afraid some stuff would be cut such as plaza, park or railyards..
so i re-slice up again.

in this pic you'll figure out the buildings near the central station and railyard #1. the heavy rail system has electrization already.
i modified the Catenaries mod by plunder with some prop iid changes. special thanks plunder and smtfrank who help me with the technical issues.
so now you see these catenaries are rectilineal like elevated rail one. because in china we used to see these catenaries instead of a curved one..

and this one:

i really like this roundabout.
the idea to create this came out oneday i was watching Paris in google earth with my friends.
and the small railyard #2, too.

Christchurch university and central labrary, plaza.
it would be a nice place for boys and girls fall in love with.. cuz there are too many trees.

Nihao fellow Chinese SC4 fan! :)

I live in China too, in Shanghai, and I just wanted to tell you that your city and the way you present it in your pics is just stunning! I also really like the contrast in your pics that really makes the buildings etc. really stand out and not just look like flat images.

You obviously take a lot of care and pride in the way you build your cities and the way you like to display them and that's what really sets your MD apart from a lot of others.

Well done and keep up the good work! Can't wait to see more!

@Neofita, canyonjumper, planetechef, T9Express, ecoba, marsh and Orange_o_,
thanks a lot my friends~ i'm so glad you love my pics and my city :P

@Panda_Power
thanks my friend~ and what a cute panda :D
so i guess you're a british now living/working in shanghai. it's a huge and ablare city isn't it :D
and i hope you already can speak chinese now :D
just like you said in your reply, i like those w2w buildings more than these edifices, but as you said, without them, the city would look flat.

@Haljackey,
hi there, i wanna thank you for your sharpe eyes, but i'd say sorry for disappoint you, that the old asphalt highway doesn't affect the nam interchanges you know, so the image you saw is a photoshop work. i'm sorry man :-[
but i do like the old asphalt mod's grey color and once i opened the old&new version of this mod and wanna see the contrast between them. and then i found it was beyond my power to make the old apply the new interchanges in the original way %confuso
so i had to turn to PS to make it happen :-[

well please stop crying my friend :) let's figure it out.
there must be not only one way to make it happen, but i just show my way.
you're right, this is angled bricks texture by Deadwoods, i just made some color change and rebuilt a .dat texture file with the instance ID range from 4da44600~4da44604. yes, the bsc parks texture's IID. ←this is the first step.
usually i'm used to open LE to modify those Lots with new base textures, and except that, i often add some extra props on the Lots, too. such as: porkissimo trees, etc.
i think you would already know how to change textures in LE. just remember if you wanna make your own texture, gave them a particular instance id and keep it in mind.
you'll quote it in your LE or in other development tools.
if you just wanna to change Lots' base texture without other modification, and you have the target texture's IID, that won't be necessary to open LE, an reader is avaliable.
open target Lot in ilive reader, and check exemplar file with "LotConfigPropertyLotObjectData". please notice the first HEX value, if it is "0x00000002", that means this object is a texture. we get total 13 different values in this data, and the last one is texture's IID. you can replace the texture iid value with the target one.
and i'm confused about how to differentiate the base texture and overlay texture by those value. so till now, i can modify texture this way only when this Lot doesn't contain an overlay texture..

i just made all lots' textures point to 4da44600, that comes the result as you all seen. and oneday, if i wanna change a new texture, simply create a new one with the iid above, and all city's textures would change at once.
and if you want to unite all game base textures in one, except Lots' textures, you should also build your own sidewalk textures. you can learn from released sidewalk mods such as SMP sidewalk Mod.

would those words help you? %confuso %confuso

Quote from: mong0ose on May 29, 2010, 09:50:57 AM
It is realistic as if it sees the photograph and it looks better your that is careful.
So, affection feels in city  ;D
Also, there are a lot of points that diagonal space practical use excels and learns in your picture. &apls
I will refer to this thing. ;D

well it is a little difficult to catch your words at once. but i assumably understand finally
thanks a lot
your signature is oriental and just like home

You know what?  When I see posts like your last one, I get a little upset with myself because you remind me that I can't really play the game.
Fantastic work.  It took me almost an hour to go over those full resolution pics, which BTW I suggest everyone does.  Absolutely breath taking!

As for the table of contents, it's rather easy.
Set up the table how you want it to look and I would suggest you do this in your first post.
Now if you click on the title of the post you wish to link you'll get a url in the address bar, copy this.
For example you last post is.....
http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=10924.msg328638#msg328638
If you wrap that with (third button in the second row) you'll get a link to that post. (I added those spaces so it wouldn't hyperlink, take out the spaces)
If you do this write a description here you'll get a link to that post that looks like this. (I added those spaces so it wouldn't hyperlink, take out the spaces)

your last post (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=10924.msg328638#msg328638)

I hope that made sense and helps you.  If you have any more questions, feel free to PM myself or any other staff member.

Again....awesome update! &apls

Very cool, I like the use of the double height monorail (bullet train) through for a long span.

My only complaint is that the images are a bit too dark. If they were brighter we would be able to see come more colour and detail.

Again....awesome update! &apls

come on my friend~
thanks robin, and thank you for the introductions as well!
during these days, as the release of Cities XL and its company finally broke down, i strongly believe that our old Simcity 4 would never die.
i love this game as everyone here does &bis&

since we have so many outstanding plugin-makers and development teams who uninterruptedly bring us exciting stuff for years.
so i wanna thank YOU for your devotion, the plugins creators, the SC4D and you staff members who make our cities a better place~

well.. and i always think the PS effects make up most of my pics..and if i take off those color levels, color balance and pic layers effects, the pic would look the same as others. i mean, maybe just those a little PS skill and the larger size make the pics difference.

well thanks for comments my friends :D
well... as you said, i also feel it's a little too dark to see details..
but when talking with one of my friends, he said: "is that a night sight? i think it just a little darker than your daylight. can i say it's a sunset?"
so.. i had to keep the color level, and abandon to make them brighter..

well i wonder you cannot see all the pictures or just the last full resolution one?
so far i know the last full resolution picture's link broke down somehow.
let me guess, it caused by the pic's extreme huge size, and the Skydrive modified the dynamic link from the old one.
so the my last solution about this is to provide the address of original preview page below the last pic.
and you can press the picture logo to see the original full size pic.
Quotesay some about the default picture logo:
due to the huge size of the last pic again, the skydrive refused to make a Thumbnail, just display a default pic logo which contains a cyberlink to the original pic.
please just press the picture logo to continue.

and if as you said my friend, you cannot see all the pics..
i wanna ask, anyone else can't see my pics right there?
if so, i'l consider changing a host website.

but, would you please nominate me some other websites which meet some requirements?
cuz i got no other ways except Skydrive.live.com that i'm using now.
the skydrive.live.com is hosted in Microsoft Co. US and i think that everyone can visit directly and take advantage of there service.

below are the little requirements:
*accept huge size pictures and not self-resize (just like photobucket.com).
*not auto delete files for xxx days limitation(www.toofiles.com).

well.. sorry to trouble you my friends, but choose a good image hosting site is relly a difficult problem for us chinese guy.
i used to upload pic to imageshack.us, but we cannot visit there and see pics linked from the site years long for some well-known reasons.
and i'm pessimistic about my country's unblock.

so... it's really drive me mad to choose one :'( :'(
and sorry for the political words in this comment :)

You could use casimages.com - its a French website, so you would need to use Google Translate (unless you know French), It has unlimited upload size, and if you register an account it keeps the images forever.

Would a French site pose any problems for access in China? I'm sorry you have so many troubles.  &mmm

I'd hate to burst your bubble, but a free account at casimages has a limit of 250MB, and you have a maximum of 5MB per image.

To Whale: I'm really sorry that you're having trouble finding image hosting

Even with an account ( a free one eh )  This site deleted almost all my pictures, so I wouldn't give it..

Oh, my mistake. Casimages has served me well thus far (alongside Photobucket), and I've never tried uploading something bigger than 5MB - that's a very large image. :P

thanks for your comments so quickly
yeah.. you have noticed that almost all my original size pics are bigger than 5MB :-[
so if i dismissal imageshack, i get no choice but skydrive this one.
and may i ask, you all can see those pics in page 1,2 and 3?
if so, i will remain my choice now, and post personal msg to CrossSide.
else when i was told new hosting site. i'll make a move.

thanks my friends again

I'm at school now and finally can see your pictures, and their wonderfull!! What a detail and what a work it must have been. As a railroad lover I must congratulate you as this is one of the first MD's in here were I see realistic railroad without too many sharp curves etc. Fantastic!

I also see you are using many w2w buildings. I try do build a city with them myself too, so my question for you is do you plop them or do you grow them? Thanks!

well, whale's back again %BUd%
first i wana thank you for the comments $%Grinno$% those warmly words make me so happy &bis&
and i want to pologize for my disappear these days..
i moved to beijing from my hometown and started my first job. everything surround me is new and i have to get things done. so, you can say i was extremely busy last days and got no time for our game.

Fortunately, today i get a break and finished ONE pic of ellesmere. i'd like to take a night shot too, but time limited. so i'll bring it to you later ;D

so let's cut the crap and start.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fpublic.bay.livefilestore.com%2Fy1pDC_jKA40HIte2DuS_UNDRaI3tCDrdz70tTDJ-L9UfUtGv9nG5_vhpHjgmyqkvt84G9MDH756XbxImpE3yuZlhw%2F2010-07-31%252001%2520r.jpg%3Fpsid%3D1&hash=c194b61c9eed5dcb04797b61c872aafc745d5464)
semi resolution (http://public.bay.livefilestore.com/y1p04ygfrI9K2UNAJJkscZkL2LZJg7Q1yW_YtkEEB6MGFAZh1T4skFCg7bsjeAqkg9-9rRFZaZasmwz7NxiFBFrug/2010-07-31%2001.jpg?psid=1)

this time not only bring you a semi resolution picture, but also a lossness bmp file with full resolution! the size is 5585x10557.
you know the bmp image is zipable. and i deside to use 7-zip to make a extreme high level zip file. the package is .7z and you need a 7-zip or winrar(3.9x or newer) to unpack. the minimum recommended memory size to unzip this file is 258MB.
please click HERE (http://cid-c9252b83b7672ed0.office.live.com/self.aspx/Christchurch%20BMP-Zipped%20Files/2010-07-31.7z) to get the download page
and press the file logo or press "下载" to download. the package is about 37MB.

and if you have any problems about the downloading, please let me know. the host website is SKYDRIVE - a microsoft live product, so i think everyone including we chinese can use their service freely.

love~
whale.

wow~ wow~
i'm soooooo impressed by all the words from you my dear friends ()flower() ()flower()
thanks soooooooo much to you all  &bis& &bis&
and thanks the moderators who ever helped me taking care of my thread as well &bis& &bis&

you know, when i read those comments such as "looking towards further pics", "can't wait for more", etc. i always feel sorry about the quantity of my pics.
i definitely know that i have less pics than all the other MDs. and these days in each new updates just one or no more than three pics released, terribly sorry about that.

i wanna share all the corners of my city, every detail. but as i have said at the top, the city began at sep. 2008, and when i decide to post pics here, it's 2010 and the ellesmere is already 80% percents ready, but it got totally covered by only serveral mosiacs  %confuso %confuso... so things gonna be twist.. i have to build my city quicker than ever, and try to make some differences.
but you know i'm no longer a student but a guy who is stuggling between work and life :'( :'( everyday is in rush and time doesn't allow me to play it much.
so... i just try to, um... make a balance. just hard working on my job, and try my best to make as many upgrades as i could.

maybe later i would come to sc4d rare, but i'll try to bring some new pics everytime when i return. i won't let it down. i promise this i promise this%BUd% %BUd%
so sorry about low quantity of pictures again :P and sorry for once promised that i will make a content at top of this thread, but till now i don't get one ()testing()
i shall make it happen...someday :D

well... everytime i try to explain something, i usually make a speeh :D :D :D
anyway, thank all my friends, you accepted christchurch, you love it, and you bring christchurch to the ositm. christchurch cannot reach such an honor without your support.

whale. with love

oh, btw, anyone who download the .7z file? the skydrive doesn't have a counter but i wanna know whether this file is unzipable in your computer.
one of my friends told me that he failed to unzip this file by winrar 3.90, but oh, he said it's ok in 7-zip 9.15 beta. so if you also have problem unzip the pack, please visit www.7-zip.org (http://www.7-zip.org) and download 7zip 9.15 b or newer version.

Wow, for someone who just broke into the OSITM category, your doing an awful lot of apologizing fighter_jingyu! And it couldn't be more unnecessary. Your pics speak for themselves. We would want to see more of your work even if you were showing 20 pics per update. You have consistently provided superb quality, and that's more than good enough for me. If you really want to make your updates more robust, might I suggest giving us some closer shots from areas already covered in the mosaics. I'm in love with some of your shots, and would love to get some perspective of the intricate detail that went into this fantastic city.

I can't wait to see your new creations as well.  ;D

I have to agree with cubby420, the mosaics are fantastic but there is no reason why you can't show some close ups from within the mosaic area. It would be great to see you cities at close range. With the effort you have obviously put in, they will certainly stand up to scrutiny

Regardless, can't wait for the next update.

Your OSITM is what made me look at you work and what can I say? - it's absouletly amazing. I particually like the picture on the opening page of the city with the perspective effect. ;D

These are fantastic looking images from your city, and really no need for all the apologies. We all have a life outside this site (although we might want to forget about that sometimes), and it is quite understandable you don't have time to post 20 pictures each update.
You are putting so much detail into each picture giving us much to drool over.  :)

Amazing Work as always. You said a post ago that you are worried aboult the quantity of your pics. DONT worry. The amazing quality of your pics makes up for it 10-fold. This is one of the most amazing MD's I've ever seen. If you want to show more areas, show some pictures closer in, like at zoom 2. Mabey see some small detailed areas of your city? I dont know just trying to help.  :P

Anyways dont stop. This looks amazing and I hope you can show us more soon.

,marsh

P.S. Remember, Quality is better than quanity.  ;)

well hi everyone, i heard about the earthquake in New Zealand by listen to the news, and what make me sad is the epicenter is just located near Christchurch, the city which gave my region a name. i'm now very worried about the people there. all i can do is pray, i wish all the people there can ride out the disaster and rebuild their hometown
god bless you :)

really sorry to hear the bad news again, this is so unfair why the tragedy hit this beautiful city twice?
May god bless Christchurch and people can overcome the disaster.

I don't know whether i can still make any update, but my MD is growing. i would update some, if it's convenient.
