Here we go. Several pics to show this challenge.

The new road (Route 1) stems from Route 10 in E, hugs the mountains and follows the coast up north. Rather than engage in major slope work and significant investment in retaining walls, it was decided to construct a short bridge. Yes, the DOT isn't thrilled with having another bridge, but I think that would be preferable to retaining wall maintenance and avoiding landslides.

2.1: Region shot showing new Route 1:

More interesting is the power source of the area. Construction of Route 1 showed significant geologic activity. The solution? Geothermal power. A bit of excavation was needed to adequately prepare the area for drilling out the vent, but this are should be able to produce reliable, cheap (no major inputs needed), and as a bonus, green, power. The workers who frequent the plant have the option to live just down the way. There is a cafe/general store and bar. Some of the workers off on the side street have made their own path up the hill rather than following the street. It is quicker it seems.

2.2: Geothermal Plant (tile B) looking north:

2.3: Geothermal Plant (tile B) looking west:

2.4: Close up of Geothermal Plant (tile B) substation and power connection. The dirt path may be seen at the bottom:

2.5: Close up of Geothermal Plant (tile B) main generating units and worker parking. Much of the surrounding flora was left undisturbed.

The water production facility was constructed up the river at the mouth of one of the smaller tributaries. This was done in order to have two available sources of clean water. Since land was openly available, the complex sprawls a bit, and, due to the flat land so close to the river, a retaining wall was constructed of scrap concrete to prevent flooding and contamination of the supply. It is pumped, held, treated/purified (no flouride added though), and hoisted to the tower for distribution. Parking is provided on site, but most workers live directly across the street (easy commute).

2.6: Water Pumping Facility (tile D) looking north:

2.7: Water Pumping Facility (tile D) looking south:

That should do it for Challenge 2. The construction crews performed quite well, and the local administration is confident that these facilities will serve new development well into the city's future.

Your challenge 2 is well done according to the rules and the demands. You can now play on 2 more citytiles anywhere in your region. This will be a part of challenge 3. Make sure that you have at least 100 citizens each in all three tiles you played in (no population max limit).

Best one I've seen yet, Matt.  That power plant is a gem.

Judgements for Challenge 2

A.   One of the best new route outlays we have seen. Excellent choice of direction giving access to the whole northeast. We gave you 5 points for the route challenge.
B.  Excellent choice of lots combined with a superbe location and well casted out of the rock placement. Again, this is one of the best we have seen. We gave you 5 points for this challenge.
C.  Very good location of the waterplant and good lots chosen, well placed combined. We liked the riverbanks solidified with rocks arounfd the facility, but the homes of the workers are a little too close. We gave you 4 points for this challenge.

A Total of 14 Points were added to your challenge.

Congratulations, ecellently well done. Details are just great. Good luck with the next challenge.
