Hi all,

I recently joined TD after I started to dabble in transit textures and lotting. I have been working closely with a member going under the name of Rivit to create some Aussie styled streets. Below is a picture taken of what they look like at the moment. I can't really take much credit at all for the look of the streets - Rivit has inveseted a lot of time and effort into making them look like they do now. What do you think?

Once the streets are finished, I'd like to start doing some relotting in a more Australian style...
Cya around!

I think they're looking great; however, did you mean to post this in the private board?

Wow, very impressive work there, Jacob.  I love the SAM-ing you've done there, it looks very nice. Seeing those streetlights gives me an idea... I could do a streetlight replacement mod, a more...err... Australian Flavour to those poles wouldn't be bad.

Very nice work all round, I look forward to seeing your re-lots too!
Adrian.

Thanks guys. Yeah, it wwas meant to be in the Creations thread  ::)

Adrian, street lights would be great!

Streets are coming along well! Shouldn't be long now before a closed beta is in order, and then hopefully a release.

I've just been pondering, now that we are getting a good stockpile of Australian bat's up our sleeve, and we are getting more Australian styled rural streets, and Adrian is considering street lights - what about sidewalks? I really don't particuarly like any of the current sidewalk mods (I'm using sandstone at the moment though). What do you think?

I think there's always room for new sidewalk mods. However I'm not sure what a typically Australian sidewalk is, what did you have in mind?

ShultzCity

I'm thinking just simple concreate with very faint darker lines for the spacings? Similar to the asphalt side mod (is that what it is called)... I have tried that, but just don't like it. Maybe I'm being too picky?

Yeah OK, that could look cool. I haven't used the asphalt mod but there's no such thing as being too picky, if you can be arsed, then it's worth doing.  ;)

Maybe once the streets are done, I can look into it....

Looks great!  That said I will get to some details.  The second house from the top on the left has props on what would be the sidewalk.  Are those part of the house lot?  Also, I am not from Australia, so bear with me, the intersection has a brown area like a half way done crosswalk.  What is that?

ShultzCity

Thanks :)

That house is from an Australian member going under the name of mattb325. I assume he has used overhanging props on that lot (I didn't have anything to do with it  ;) )

That brown area is actually dashed lines across the intersection, here in Aus meaning give way to oncoming cars (not sure about America?). The compression in that picture means that they are blurred slightly, causing them to look more like a dirty smudge ;) . I'll go in now and take a close for you and post it here.

Here we are (please ignore the bright white lines, they are from a street mod I have to remove at some point  ;) ):

Looking again I see that the brown area I noticed is actually a car.  Four way yield? Is this for a flat area?

ShultzCity

Yes, four way yield is fairly common in Australia. Maybe someone who ahs a license in Aus can confirm, but I am pretty sure it is first come first serve?

Hmmm... here in Queensland, it's rare to see a Give Way sign on a Four way intersection. However, it's even rarer to see four Give Way signs on any one intersection.
Give way signs are usually reserved for "T" intersections and the like. Also, those dotted lines are right, the broken line means Give Way, with or without sign. Plus, our Give Way signs are Triangular, with the Apex facing downward. So yeah, that's my understanding of it all.

The Give Way system is rather complex, but it essentially means "Anyone on your right, has right of way", if that makes sense.

Pretty long winded, but I hope that cleared it up.
Things look excellent here,
Adrian.

I have to say I'm not familiar with any 4 way give-way intersections. I know a four-way intersection that now has three out of four with give ways, but it's a very twisted and unusual one.
It's more usual to have give ways on 2 opposite sides of a four-way intersection; so one way (N/S or E/W for eg.), has the right of way while the others have to wait. Where intersections are too big to allow such an approach there are usually lights or a roundabout. I am a driver, but I am just going from memory here, it's not something I usually think about when I'm cruising around.
That said, it looks fine as is.  ;)

ShultzCity

Well, I just had a quick squiz down the road and we have one wehere I live. Having said that, it is quite an old suburb, so maybe it is something they have phased out?

Perhaps, I could get rid of two of them, as you said things. That way, because the game generally flips textures around a bit, you'll get variation. And, if there is a particular intersection you want going a certain way, click around / redrawing it should change the direction. Sounds good to me, what do others think?

well I think it sounds good, how is it all coming along?

ShultzCity

Slowly at the moment - hopefully within the next month we'll be able to start the scrutineering process...

This looks like a mighty fine street mod. Have you been thinking about including it in the next SAM update? I am recommending it, but it is your choice.
