These look fantastic...I just hope the textures and nightlights that get made for them can match how nice the raw models look. Also glade to see a European dedicated team seeing how many European stuff does get made but only at random.

Excellent roofing material. I like the accent colors. I'm glad I clicked on your thread as these apartments are a gem. Can I ask a curiosity question? What is the scale of the building? How high are the floors and the foot print?

jmeyers - The BAT measures 14x18 metres and a floor measures approximately 4.8 metres hig.

Here is on the other hand what is finished (or almost). I write the ReadMe and made the package. On the STEX at the end of this week.

Post by: Andreas on December 08, 2009, 03:11:58 AM
In some of the pics, there's a tree growing on the paths (maybe it's not centered properly, so it "shifts" position when rotating the lot - can be annoying). ;) But those are very nice, the perfect 70's midrise blocks that have been erected in the outskirts of pretty much every Central European city.

Could you expand a little on what exactly should be updated with SC4PIM?
Title: Re: Delecto's Experimental Laboratory
Post by: xxdita on December 08, 2009, 04:23:23 PM
Wouanagaine's SC4PIM allows you to create new building exemplars and lots, with stats which are in line with CAM. Or it allows you to modify existing building exemplars with a simple right click of your mouse, then automatically updates the lot's stage appropriate to CAM. I'm sure Andreas would agree just how easy it is to master this new tool. Just take a look at the User Guide from the LEX (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2257) for the specifics, and if you still have any questions, just ask!
SC4PIM takes all of the guesswork out of modding lots of all kinds, giving batters more time to work on bats, and less time thinking about modding.   ;)
Title: Re: Delecto's Experimental Laboratory
Post by: Andreas on December 08, 2009, 05:03:31 PM
Well, as much as I like SC4PIM, T Wrecks is one of the few guys who really don't need help when finding balanced stats. ;) I don't know if you were around those times already, but he was one of the researchers that compiled the very first lists of proper building stats, together with a huge patch for existing buildings from the STEX that he fixed manually with the Reader, balancing the exaggerated values that have been assigned by the Maxis PIM via inexperienced BATters.
Title: Re: Delecto's Experimental Laboratory
Post by: xxdita on December 08, 2009, 06:30:37 PM
Of course the name is as familiar as SimGoober, iLive and Tropod, among others. Though I wasn't active in the community, I've been around a while (joined ST in '03). And I remember downloading that patch.  ;)

T Wrecks, it may be quite helpful to us if you'd take a look at RippleJet's latest properties.xml (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2265) for SC4PIM. It would also give you a better idea of exactly how the building stats are derived, so you know what to expect from it. SC4PIM also fits lots appropriately into the range of growth stages allowed by CAM. So I think even the most experienced of modders should find it useful, not having to learn a new system from scratch.

Those montevideo ones look very nice. Now about the "Boekentoren" (Book Tower), here (http://www.boekentoren.be/default_EN.aspx?url=EN_home) is the official site of the tower itself, and here's also a picture
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi54.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fg92%2FBenonie%2Fgent%2Foudjaar%2F118_0115.jpg&hash=ca470f31f02e5c82ad3243feb70c4bc332e978cd)

also, here (http://www.bing.com/maps/#JnE9eXAuYm9la2VudG9yZW4lN2Vzc3QuMCU3ZXBnLjEmYmI9NTEuMDQ1NDU3Njc0MzgyNCU3ZTMuNzI3NzMwNDg1OTg3ODclN2U1MS4wNDM2NDM4MzM5Njc5JTdlMy43MjM4Mzk2MDU0OTc0Mg==) is a bird's eye view of the building (Bing Maps)

edit: You'll need to select bird's eye view yourself because it's unpossible to link directly into bird's eye view. If the weather permits (a lot of snow and -8°C predicted for tomorrow) I'll go and take some pictures.

-WC_EEND: It's OK, i have enough pictures yet.  ;)

-For the Book Tower, it's only the beginning... long way to go :-[

-As for the Grand Kamelia where I got a little progress.
I work now on max2010Design and the last Bat4Max from SimFox and I have to say that this is now more cozy, especially when you work with Gamma Correction.
And the new Arch&Design materials are just...  ::) astonishing!!!

Hi Delecto

Thanks very much for your comments, I love your BATs and your choice of buildings--the book tower will be a great BAT--just the kind of architecture I love--and I'm very interested to see how it develops. The Grand Kamelia is, well, grandiose--wow! Courage doing the windows and detailing on that. And your screenshots are really elegant, beautiful work all around. &apls

Hello...  ;)

long time since I posted anything here. Really, I don't have time to work on these projects for at least 6 months. :'( To be honest, I'm feeling like this chained's chair photographed in Berlin in 2010.  :D

I am a bit lost in all this mess.  ::) But I finally have the opportunity to make some progress in some projects  &mmm...

Montevideo... work in progress on textures!

Textures are provisional but I want your advice before proceeding in this direction!!!  ;) I feel that the textures are too saturated, Instead, everything is too illuminated. What do you think???
Ingame Photoshoping... :)

Welcome back to business, Delecto!

The Montevideo building looks great; I also agree that the textures look a bit too bright, although I would prefer to say they look too clean/new. Perhaps making them a bit greyish (as air pollution and continued exposure to sun, wind and rain would turn it) would make it a bit more realistic?

I like the Pearl set of buildings a lot, specially the diagonals. Would you consider expanding those diagonal BATs to incorporate the grounds into the model so one could plop the building as a self-contained lot in a diagonal street/road?

BTW, that seems an interesting way to ensure you will have a place to seat next time you go to the park ...  :-\

I agree with what the others said about the textures, and I also think you could scale it up a little. It looks good next to the hospital, but compared to the school (and the W2W buildings), it's a bit too small. Since there seems to be some room left on a 3x2 lot, this should work out.

Reinstalled 3DSMAX on my laptop to work a little during my long trips.

So if you take your image for instance, the code will look like this.

Humm... because to bring something on the LEX you must use the PIMX, which hasn't been done for the Pearl Lots!  $%Grinno$% Considering the number of file to edit I renounced for the moment. &mmm

Abelia, my old model is back with a little work on the textures (those of the windows are poor and provisional). In fact they are all provisional. What do you think?

I found a picture of the project finally realized and I must say that the orange color is very, very orange, in terms of saturation.  :D Unsure that I go in a direction so radical.  ???

First of all great work on those buildings. I also like your Pearl apartements a lot.

@Abelia
I would prefer Orange B. As the building looks qiuet new, the color should be "strong". Are you planning different color versions?
Will you add some terrace and roof junk as well?

Title: Re: Delecto's Experimental Laboratory

This last building looks promising. Smaller than Kamelia and surely simpler to integrate in the game.

This orange color is not common for many of us. For this reason I would choice the version A even if the version B seems to be nearer to the realistic building.

This texture is more realistic, the former was more thinking about sheets "steel pan", which must be laid with a slope.
It is therefore more accurate.

I am not at all a fan of your windows, seek advice from Girafe to that explains how to use an environment map

Antoine, yes the old branch call me like that. :D Il devient un peu gateux.  $%Grinno$%

pierrebaptiste, no idee at the moment sorry, I'm still working on them.  &mmm But Costa Ozor is in TWrecks's hands, he already show me some LOTs and it's great!

gn_leugim, Lloyds Building in London my friend.  ;)

===============================================

For the Grand Kamelia, I started thinking about how we are going to make the LOT.
We know that very large LOTs have a high crime problem + there is a limit in the number of Props & Textures you can use on a LOT.

This is how I see it:

LOT_A: the center one, contains the GRAND KAMELIA SC4Model setup as a Growable $$Res. The occupancy size has been resized to fit on a 6x4 LOT.

LOT_B: the left one, contains an invisible SC4Model setup as a Ploppable $$Co or$$Cs. In this situation, the LOT is also 6x4.

LOT_C: the right one, contains an invisible SC4Model setup as a small Ploppable Police Station. In this situation, the LOT is also 6x4. This LOT can also be a Park  to increase the desirability.

Click on the picture below for a more precise description.

Woah! Can't wait to use that in my city/cities!

Little question about how it's going to be lotted, since it has a diagonal side; will it be a multi-lot building so that a diagonal road (or whatever) can be run next to it?
Or is that a big secret until the building is ready? haha :)

I'm loving your designs. Really great looking buildings.
I have a question though, I've taken a look at your releases on the STEX (looking forward to see possible releases on the LEX) and I would like to know if your buildings are CAMpatible or not and if it would be to much trouble to include CAMpatible versions in the releases?

When I look I this design the first thing that comes to mind is that it would be an awesome terminal station for elevated networks (el-rail, monorail and HSRP). Any chance of that happening?

@gn_leugim & @Gugu3:
Judging by your comments I'm led to believe you're thinking that I made that building. That's not true. You can see that I quoted that picture from a previous post by Delecto. My point was just to suggest to Delecto to make it a monorail/el-rail terminal station (or talk with someone who can help him with that).

Other than that, it's indeed a cool design.

Beautiful houses, but I think the texture of the walls is a bit too less detailed.
The seawalls and the boats are very beautiful, but indeed I think the concrete ribs on the sewalls are a bit too pronounced. Maybe you give the walls less depth?

I'll have to second FrankU comment about the walls texture. Other than that they lok great :)

the wall of this house is completely white uniform in RL, a little dirtier... ::)

Now that was fast! Even if it is plain white in real life, i think in game, a little dirt looks much better.
I look foward to use it in game as well as the new seawalls :)

Yeah! Beautiful!
There is always this trouble with RL: in game things that are like real can look not realistic!
Example: if you throw a dice in RL it can give you five times a six in a row. But if you tell that in a story everybody will think it unrealistic. In a story (like in a game) everything is done on purpose, by someone; so everything has a meaning. So five times a six with a dice in a story does mean something... what is the author trying to tell you here?
This is not directly related tot he white or grey of the plastered building, but indirectly I want to say: what looks like Real Life can look unrealistic in game.
I hope I made myself clear.
