Sim City 4 Devotion is not just a typical Sim City Community where you can get lost and be forgotten!!! The staff and the members here do care about each other and we are a family... We welcome everyone with open arms here... When someone is sick we a get behind them to support that member till they are better... When a member goes missing we get worried about them and hope that RL is not hitting that member to hard...

This list is by far not to keep track but a hey we miss you and hope you come back!!! If you know of the status of a member on the list let us know or a member that hasn't been seeing either let us know so that way we can account for them... Thanks all for being apart of this wonderful community that we can call home!!!

Here is the table in action so far..

Just on Koorisim, he has been AWOL since christmas.  He was an very active member at Pegs too and hasn't been seen there either.  I've got his email address but have had no replies and he doesn't appear to be on line.

Wynney mate, if you see this, please say Hi so we know you are OK.

Well, David, I could tell you about a couple of 'em, but since they went into the Witness Protection program, I'd have to uh, well, you know...   :P

This is an interesting idea, David. It's this type of camaraderie that makes SC4D so special. So, if you guys are out there, give us a holler and let us know everything's OK!

First update, and I'm glad to announce that, at about 10 'til midnight (GMT) today, March 8th, rheal (rw0381c) was spotted lurking.  Great to see a good friend back!

So, our list now looks like this, with one addition:

March 8, 2007

Bluebeard
Grneyes
your_adress_here
KooriSim123

We're leaving that porch light on.

Just so you don't add me to your list, I will be AWOL for a couple of months probably, but hope to return.  If I'm not back by june send out the search party.  :P

Diggis, we'll search high and low, nary a bar/pub nor rugby field, nor (did I say bar/pub yet?) will go unvisited!

Now that sounds mysterious, Diggis.

Several months... ...hope to return... ...somewhere with no internet...

Ahhhh- that last one did it for me!  You're going to my dad's house.

A tip (might keep you alive, my friend)...

...check the "use by" dates on anything perishable in the fridge before consuming.  Dad's been known to keep stuff, shall we say, a bit past its prime.

Hey, try to keep us posted, in any event.

Vicki, I believe he's going to end up here to the UK, so the chances are quite high that he'll be in a pub, probably working behind the bar  :D :D

While this does indeed sound like a nice gesture to know that all members are welcome and important here, I'm afraid I must speak up against such an idea in the long term.

SC4D has very few members right now, and as such appears to be a very close-knit community.  The problems I see with the concept of a list of awol members is how far do we take it?  Keeping tabs on 1000 members can be challenging enough, but what happens with it reaches 2000?  5000?  More?  The higher the member count the less cohesive any place will eventually become, and such a task as this would become downright daunting.

Not only that, it is my humble opinion that this fosters, to me, a sense of "parenting".  Ever member beyond a certain post count that becomes inactive will be documented, looked for, and requested to return with a new post.  What right does anyone have to request anything of any other member besides that which is in the rules?  If I wish to lurk for several months, or even disappear entirely for a while, I shall, and not wish to be listed as "awol".  Each member has their own life outside SC4, and this should be respected.

I understand that the intent is good-natured, and meant to foster a close community, and I commend you for your efforts.  I simply believe that your idea of good-will is perhaps misplaced in this instance, and unsustainable over the long run with several thousand members to contend with.  We are not here to be watched over and tracked,  but treated as adults in an internet community, free to come and go as we see fit.

Perhaps an alternative method would be like what is done on ST, I believe they have a "leaving/returning" thread that members voluntarily post in at their discretion if they happen to be leaving the site for a long while.  I do believe that leaving this task up to the members themselves, instead of someone else tracking them, would be better in the long run.

/end rant

(I hope I don't offend anyone by mentioning ST, if so, I apologize)

Yes, a lot of us are hiding from the law so it's to be expected we'll disappear from time to time, without a word.

Oh wait, maybe that's just me.   ;)

No, Lord_T- not taken as a rant at all.  A well thought-through post, IMHO.  I think I disagree with you about a couple of things, though.  I'm going to think about what you've said while I'm out with my sweetie this evening, and I'll return to this space in a few hours.

LordTarren: You raise a very interesting point, but like you said, I believe that this idea was conceived as a gesture of friendship in the community, not as an exercise of control or anything like that. The way I look at it is that if a regular contributing member of the community suddenly disappeared without any kind of notice, a lot of people around here would wonder where they were and even worry about them and hope they are safe. In my opinion, this thread serves more as a "we're thinking about you" thread than a "you'd better check in" thread. Just my opinion, please don't think that I'm attacking you or anything like that.

thundercrack83 - I am most certainly aware that this was meant as a good-will gesture, and by no means intend to say otherwise.  I simply believe that it could very easily be percieved as a form of tracking members as well, which could put some people off.  The question again arises, how far do we take it?  How would it honestly be possible to keep such a thing going when this board eventually has upwards of five thousand people or more?

While I believe friendship, comradery and close-knit communities are important things on the internet, it is still the internet, something of which is secondary to real life and always should be.  If someone becomes awol, for whatever reason, it is not up to any of us to send out a search party to find out why by adding their names to a list.  If someone truly wants to get in touch with another person, they may easily do it by PM's, any form of IM's, or email, privately.  And then, as stated before, it should always be up to the very person who is going "missing" to tell everyone in the first place, IF and when they choose to.

As said before, I believe a "tell us you're leaving/returning" thread where members post for themselveswould be a far better alternative, but that is simply my opinion.

Methinks you are reading too much into it and need to put down the book on conspiracy theories.  :D :D :D :D  ...think of it more as a "memoriam" than a member tracking poll.  If you wish to start a leaving/returning thread, please feel free to do so.  I think this  is more like a SC4D FriendsReunited [ Linkie (http://www.friendsreunited.co.uk/friendsreunited.asp?WCI=FRMain&show=Y&page=UK&randomiser=0) ] type thing...
Title: Re: Missing in Action!
Post by: LordTarren on March 11, 2007, 04:02:20 PM
I'm afraid I must disagree with you there, callagrafx.  This is in no way a "conspiracy theory".  A list is made of people's names, if they haven't posted within two weeks.  That is a very short period of time.

A list is made

This is exactly how people are tracked.  I am in no way trying to make this into something it is not, I'm simply trying to point out this particular flaw in the design of things, if you will.  I am not angry, offended, paranoid or out to make anyone look bad and I do what I can to avoid making people think as such.  If dedgren wants to keep doing this, that is his perogative.  All I seek to do is shed light on any possible problems that can arise because of it, and nothing more.  I intend it to stay as a debate, not an argument.   :sunny:   :blahblah:

So far, the only problem arising in this thread is you, LordTarren. You are pissing off topic.

What are you exactly looking for? I will not ask it twice.

Btw, i totally agree with this idea. If any member does not want to see its nickname here, he/she has simply to let us know.

Title: Re: Missing in Action!
Post by: LordTarren on March 11, 2007, 04:52:13 PM
I have no idea how I have said anything even remotely off topic so far.  This thread is about making a list of missing members, I have stated my disagreements of such and my reasons why.

I have also stated "exactly what I'm looking for", to use your words, twice already.  A thread where members add their names if and when they see fit, this of which is the opposite.

You said:  "...he/she has simply to let us know."  This should not be an "opt-out" situation to begin with, rather opt-in as stated above.

I have already stated these things in previous posts, so I really don't understand why you have asked me again, and with the additional statement "I will not ask twice".  I believe that it was unncessesary, and you have come off sounding very angry towards me.  I am not out to "cause a problem", and have repeatedly stated this fact.

Since this is obviously getting me nowhere, I will politely bow out of this thread and speak no more.  Good luck with your endevour, dedgren, wherever it may lead you.

Ok, consider this my official request -- if I go missing, please do not look for me as I will likely resurface later under a pseudonym as I will a) likely have gone underground to escape from the law or b) have won the lottery and are hiding from my long-lost relatives looking for a handout.

We'll have to work out some sort of secret signal, so you'll know it's me, though. I know, I'll use this guy --> %BUd%

OK, OK, before we get in a ruckus here...

Lord_T, last night I said I thought you had some good points- I still do, although your posts today really didn't seem to add a great deal.  I don't want to see folks get crosswise here, so let me give everyone some information to start with.

SC4D, as we stand today, is just north of 1,200 member IDs issued.  Truth be told, and as everyone probably realizes anyway, if you gathered all the actual members with active IDs together in a room, it would be something less than 1,200.  We've, uhhh... lost a few here or there.  Other IDs were issued but then were made redundant by registration problems, that sort of thing.  I feel pretty comfortable in saying we'd have around 1,175 warm bodies, more or less.

Now, the dirty little secret of most fansite communities like this is that only a tiny percentage, usual two or three percent at the most, of the members who register are really active on the site.  Often, if the community is really large, that percentage is less than one percent.  Let's look at ST as an example.  To the extent that there are 150,000 members, if three percent were active (I would define active as making one forum post a week- that probably really conservative), that would be 4,500 members defined as active.  I'd guess (I am only speculating here- let me be really, really clear about that) the actual number is much smaller.  ST probably has, if you would apply my definition, fewer that 1,000 active members, and perhaps far fewer.  That's still quite a few. and it's a hard task to attract that many people on an ongoing basis to what is, at bottom, a purely volitional recreational activity.

I think a hallmark of this site is that we're open about who and what we are.  I doubt many other fansites would tell you what I'm about to.  But it's the truth, and that's the way it is, whether some would obscure it or not.  Of the about 1,200 members that we have, about two-thirds, or slightly more than 800, have never posted even once.  For whatever reason, theyve been content to register and lurk.  Am I surprised?  Not a bit.  I'd bet the corresponding number at a site like ST is astronomical, probably over 125,000, and again maybe far more.  For some, that is the furthest extent their willingness to participate goes- and that is fine.  Nobody here is demanding participation.  We certainly hope that folks would.  We certainly believe that it enhances the experience.  But participation is, at the end of the day, completely voluntary.

Now, out of the third that remain (those who have posted at SC4D), almost 225 have posted less that 25 times, and most far less: say, one to five times.  Some folks have just registered recently and are just getting started.  Others made a flurry of posts around the time they registered and then have gone silent.  A very, very few post every two or three weeks.  This group I would not term, because of the variety of circumstances, inactive, but they, for whatever reason, have not yet reached the (completely) arbitrary level of "activeness" I have set

That leaves about 125 members who I would consider active- some combination of longevity and number of of posts on average that puts them over a post per week.  Because our membership is relatively small, this number seems small- about 125 folks.  When you think about it a minute, though, in light of what I just said, that's absolutely incredible.  SC4D has a contingent of active members that is just a bit more than ten percent of its membership.  This is a phenomenal percentage.  Applied to ST, it would be like having 15,000 members who would be active enough to post in the forums on a weekly basis.

So, let's get back to this thread.  SC4D, in wondering about those "Missing in Action," is really looking out after that 10% or so of members who are active.  If they suddenly miss a few weeks of posting, SC4D, as a community, wonders what's up.  We have no police force to track them down, no interrogators to make them confess what they were (or are) doing while they've been gone.  We're just thinking about them, and wishing they were still around.  We certainly would never hound anyone to return if they're simply done here.  There should be no guilt involved, either.  If someone who's active wants to hang it up- hey, that's up to him or her.  SC4D will continue on, but again, SC4D is really nothing more than the sum of the community that makes it up.

So, we do it because we care.  We're not Big Brother, and are not trying to be.  I hope that explains what we're doing, Lord_T.  Feel free to PM me if you would want to discuss things further.

David

This is one of the reasons this site is so special. As one of the members with a small number of posts, i still check in about once a day. I would be touched if someone wondered where i had been. I would feel as if I was among friends. As the membership grows this will probably become too cumbersome, but for now- what a great idea

So, no changes from the last list:

me personal opinion is this simply well put.

QuoteI like the idea of say hey wheres Pat havent seen him in awhile.
what happend to him?  drop that man a line and ask if hes good?
tell him we here at SC4D miss him and hope all is well.

to me to see something like that is wonderful cause what david said its true
we may have millions of members but who is hard core who is active what maybe only 125
and im proud to say that im one of the few 125 who post at least once or more a day.
i know i shouldnt mention the unmentionable name but man Lt had it soo ummm sadly split
cause he just didnt understand and the arogance shows just as i learned last nite at Oneida County
firemans Association Banquet that arogance is just that arogance that shouldnt be hated but loved because the
person or group just doesnt know.  How it is so is that facts where crossed and not checked and a horse was beaten and thus far a mistake had happend and well we need to sit and talk it out and find out what crossed and fix it so every one is happy.
I know most of you reading are wondering where im going with this it simple I LOVE THE IDEA AND I WILL DEFEND IT.
too bad i didnt get the chance for that person to see what im saying maybe he might have understood a little better,
but arogance has gotten in the way and we should forgive it and forget about it and hope that it doesnt happen again.

I have to agree with the general consensus here.  One of the things I really like about this site is that it is very close knit.  It's not so much that "these people are missing, we have to hunt them down", but rather, "hey, what happened to so-and-so".  I rather like it, and think it was a very thoughtful thing for David to do.

If I reach a point at which I won't be around for awhile, I will, however, let everyone know, since it has gotten to the point now for me that I'd consider you guys friends.

My point of view, too. Jeroni has been kind enough to invite to his home and I hoep we continue to respect him and treat each other like friends. I see this as a part of being a friend - to wonder where someone is when you haven't seen them for a while. It isn't being oppressive but caring about our small community.
Let's keep it that way.

I really like this site and, even more, I really like the attitudes and the sense of cameradere that I find here. When I first read this post, I was touched by the sense of concern for absent members and I didn't even think that there may be something sinister behind it. I dunno...one person's care is another person's stalking, I guess. Still, I think it's a decent gesture and it gives me a good feeling knowing that some members actually care about other members. Whenever I notice that a familiar member has not posted for some time, I wonder if everything is ok and hope that RL hasn't dealt them a hard blow. Maybe the recent ex-member would have preferred if Dedgren had started a thread saying "These people haven't posted in over two weeks, but I don't give a s***!" If that's the case, maybe he'll find a site where that is the common attitude among the members and he'll be happy there. That's not the kind of site I'm looking for and I doubt very much if any of the frequent contributors to this site are looking for a place like that.
As some have noted, the members that seem to be posting here on a daily basis are a small group. By seeing them here just about every day, there gets to be a sense of closeness and intimacy within this small group. I also note that of this small group of "regulars", NO ONE has posted in this thread objecting to the idea or worrying about being tracked and turned over to Interpol or stated that the idea freaked them out. So for those of us that see beyond the avatar of our fellow members and have a sense of those members who share with our community, let's keep the spirit of cameraderie and concern alive. That's one of the many things that make this such a special place. From the number of members I have seen here that I recognize from other sites, I've noticed a common denominator among them. They are people who have been serious and active at other sites and who have always made positive contributions. I also believe that most of them , like myself, knew Jeronij from elsewhere and when they saw he was opening a site, came here because they respect him. They knew he was serious about the game and had made many positive contributions and knew he has a positive attitude toward fellow players and BATters. I think most of us here came to be an extension of that positive attitude and respect and to have a place where we could contribute in whatever way we could. The fact that someone cares enough to be concerned when a fellow member drops off of the map speaks volumes about the calibre and class of this site. I, for one, am honoured to be a part of a community where the members actually care about one another.
Keep on rockin' Dedgren! Don't allow anyone to undermine what you're doing and try to turn a positive action into something negative. There's a place for those who try to do that, and fortunately, this isn't that place! Thank you, David, for caring.

I just want to say that despite the few vocal oppositions to having such a list, I support what Dedgren has started here. Keeping a list of the M.I.A's gives a sense that the community cares about all of its members, regardless of how much or how little they post. I may not post much, but I only post when I have something revelant or important to discuss. I spend most of my time here lurking, like I do on most of the forums that I am a member of and visit. While I lurk, I read posts to learn. I'm more interested in learning and applying the knowledge I gain than just trying to raise my post count. Just my thoughts on the matter.

I am 40 years old with a demanding career and have a three month old baby daughter.  So my time is very limited to say the least.  With that said, I usually spend what limited free time I have just reading the boards to keep abreast of what is going on.  In addition, I am revamping my plug-ins in preparation to play SC4 after a long time away from the game.  I am not one to constantly post replies, I just do not have the time.  However, I think this is a very nice idea to try to keep in touch with all members.  There are many people on this site that I admire and maybe it would not be a bad idea to say so from time to time.  This is a fabulous site and I enjoy it immensely even though I may not post much!

@Callagrafx; Now Lee, don't go scaring the poor man!  @Schooner; You may want to drop by Peg's and read "Rules For Dating My Daughter"

I've told my sister (the one that lives next door) that if, for some reason, I can't get on line she is to visit my 2 favorite sites (where I know people care) and let them know 1) what's wrong 2) and when I'll be back - Hey, I'm 60 years old and have got to think about these things.....

I like the idea of this - very much.

My father passed away a month ago, relatively sudden, and since then I keep on thinking to what sites he was registered and if forum-friends are missing him now too..

Not that this list on this page would help in that case, but the idea that people even care why you're not showing up is great...

I a bit sad now...  noone came looking for me sept for Dedren while I was out there in the wilds of the internet...  having a bit of an identity crisis,  oh well.

I for one... would take it as a compliment the have someone for the sc4 community wonder where I was...  as I do miss some of the members that have wondered of... has to do with the sense of community around here. Some may remember about 1-2 years back we were a pretty tight group of folks.. some of the closeness has gone away with time... (or it could be my sense of closeness from being so detatched from the goings on)

I know that SC4devotion intention is to be geared to the more hardcore dedicated sc4 fans... I I still am to a degree...  but I stick around more becuase of the folks around the community that I have grown fond of...

I'm absolutely convinced by the public utility of this thread ... or may be those being agaisnt haven't the same definition of "community" , even virtual ...
I want to say , incidentally , these international and virtual relationships have became necessary for me and with the same evidence , I can't say that I don't care to what happens to any of you ; that's a REALITY . So I will read this thread regularly .
Sebes , don't think that wouldn't help in any case , we are all confronted to life and death . We can just be a little more heartwarming than usual ; just confirming you that your pain has been (my case ) or will be our pain .

Hi Schooner2, Congratulations on your daughter!!!  Being a dad of 3 young boys (7,5 and 2 years old) I can confim that your free time is hard pressed. The first 6-8 months are the worst as the nights tend to be broken. After that you have more time for yourself again unless of course you are a fool like me and get a second kid and a third......  :D
The oldest boys now like to watch me play the game and carefully start to develop their own town. I gave them soem cheats so their cashflow will not deminise in seconds as they realy lay down a lot of tracks. On the down side we now have to fight who is allowed to play SC4. ha, ha, ha.
Have fun with the little one and you amy want to show her in the thread show us your children.

Hey, Diggis- thanks for the question.

QuoteDavid, are you only interested in when they visit here?  As I know BB is active at Pegs occasionally.

It's good to know generally that folks are out there.  This thread is specifically set up just to make sure that nobody who has actively participated in the SC4D community goes missing unnoticed, but I certainly don't want it to be taken by anyone that we would follow them and try to "press-gang" him or her back because of a posting hiatus.  It's nice to hear BB is OK and posting somewhere- I would assume, being somewhat familiar with the bearded one's style, that he'll reappear here when he's good and ready.

Take care, folks.

David, I wasn't suggesting you were trying to force them back,  $%Grinno$%  I just figured if someone saw one of them on another board it might pay to mention it so people don't worry.

Despite what the former Lord Tarren said there is a strong friendship amongst the members of this community across 3 or 4 sites and there are people who have left (koori sim is one of them who I haven't seen on MSN since xmas) who I would like to know are OK, even if it's on another site.

Just getting around to this thread and love the idea....have belonged to many sites and lurked, but for some unknown to me reason, this is the site where I have actually started to post and interact with the community.  Well I guess that part of that reason is the fact that havn't found flaming, or harrasment or name calling in any of the threads.....nice for a change.  Another reason that I like this idea is (get out your hankies-tear jerker comeing ;D)  I am disabled and while I am currently able to get out and do a few things, there are long stretches of time when I am a relative hermit....and it's just very heart warming and welcome knowing that somewhere, somebody I have never met, is scratching their head and wondering "where is that old guy?"  ::).   It's funny the internet has these attractions of being totally impersonal and yet you meet the most wonderful people from around the world and develope freindships and really caring about them...

Sheesh....did I really go on like that?   oops...

It breaks my heart, but I'm going to drop a member off the bottom of the list.  I've started a "Gone but not forgotten" section on the first page of this thread [linkie] (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=658.msg17886#msg17886) that I'll put members who've been MIA for more than 60 days on.

Our friend KooriSim123 becomes our first.

So, the list as of today is:

March 31, 2007

Asahi
Menotyou
Grneyes
your_adress_here

We're lookin' out for you folks...

Well, Asahi has turned up (thanks, snorelli).  Welcome back, good friend, and know that we missed you.

Just when I thought we'd have pared the list down to three, a whole slew of folks come up MIA...

...extended spring break?  ...blue light special [linkie] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kmart)?  ...mass alien abduction?

n.b.:  I've relaxed the rules just a bit this one time to capture a few folks who were just under 25 posts.

Okay, so our friend nedalezz swung by and lurked yesterday about 3:15 p.m. GMT.  nedalezz has a great MD here that's in bad need of an update, so hey... if you're seeing this- we're hoping all is well.

One back, another gone missing, though.  After making a bunch of comments, Adriano57 simply evaporated two weeks ago.

Today's update is mixed- a "good news-bad news" sort of thing.

The good news is that two members who've not been around in some time are back on the forums.  wild_horse_in_the_sky (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?action=profile;u=113) and petercintn (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?action=profile;u=300) have both been spotted in the past few days, and each had been gone long enough to be of real concern.  Great to see you back, folks!

There's five additions to the list, but a few of those we have a little info about.  I start by noting that nedalezz is appearing for the second time.  Our friend has a great MD started: Levante [linkie] (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=203.0), and its readers, judging by the popularity it gained, are really missing those updates.  John (Darmok) is enduring a lot of RL calls on his time- he's doing fine, though, and I'm sure he will be gracing us with comments again soon.  Finally, our friend Cali let us know a while back in this thread that the demands of recent marriage and a new addition to his family might require that he would be away for an extended period.  Well, here he is on our list, and we hope that whatever he is doing right now that things are going well and we'll be hearing from him again soon.

So here's where we stand today

Hello all; just a question.  Is this list based off of members posting, or members logging onto the site ?
As for me, I'm very new to this. An old SC4 player, and ST member, but use these sites to see all the creations and pictures.  I'm on the site almost daily, and donated.  I'm just not much of a talker, if you know what i mean.
Aswell as, in the company of most of you Batters, i'm just a bleacher King !
Willing to help if i can, and i really do love and appreciate all the hard work, and effort that is going on here !
      Thank you all !

David,

Regretfully, I believe we may have to add DarkLoki to the list. I clicked on his profile to see if i could find out what province of the Netherlands he was from for "The Many Nations..." and saw that he hasn't been active since March 25. Hopefully, he and the others will surface soon...

OK, here's another newbie checking in for what it's worth. I visit SC4D almost daily, but don't post very much. At the site I used to visit regularly, I've been put down, ignored and yelled at one too many times simply because I tried to help someone by answering a question. So I'm a little gun shy right now, but I'll try to work through it *sniff*sniff*. :-[

Hello Dedgren,

I would like to comment on Vandy (Gary).

As he is a fellow member of ours in NHP we have had discussion with him.  He has taken a hiatus from the SC community... An indefinate one.  He has found that there are more important things in life for him right now and wishes to spend much more time with his family.  Gary has been a great friend and companion to us in NHP and we all wish him the best in his future endevors.  He will always be an honorary member of our team and be in our hearts forever.

I hope this clears something up for you Dedgren.  Its been a little while since I have visited this thread and Im sorry for not passing the message on before.  If you have any other questions just send me a PM.

After delays and what nots, I am here.  I've been tuning in my new rig, see Rig Pics if you want, dealing with unexpected (sp?) youngin problems, karma getting me back from when I was a teenager, and a little doctor work (I left NC where I was getting seen at Duke, to get to go to Vanderbilt, which specializes in my particular problems.)

So now things are back to what amounts to normal for me and I now have some free time to bug you guys.  I can make you crazy all over again.  Thanks for all the birthday how to do's last month, I would have gotten back to you quicker if I was smart and didn't have to learn about how Intel does things.  But I've had a great time tweeking and geeking, but now I'm ready to put this rig to use.  Which means play games!

Unfortunately, there's once again a large number of additions to the list- We miss you, folks, and hope you'll check in soon!

@Dedgren...  As a member of NHP Moganite has taken a leave of absence.  As has many members of NHP right now.

Moganite - Is away spending more time with his family.
Blade2k5 - Is away working lots of overtime.
Besku3epmn - Is getting ready for training school for the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police)
Vandy - Has resigned, but is still an honorary member of our team and always will be!  He is spending more time with his family as well.

I can't be active from the 23th June to the 8th July, because I will spend two weeks in Denmark (The summer holidays started today at my federal state, here in Germany :) ). So I can't post for two weeks! --- That also means I can't update my MD for 2 1/2 weeks - Please, don't move it to completed MDs in this period, david! ---

I just want to say it in advance... ;)

Won't be visiting as much. I have my HSC trial exams (they count towards my assessment mark) over the next few weeks. I should be back on or around the 15-16th August. Then before September 2, I'll have to post a quick "keep-alive" update for Ensenada. :P It'll most likely involve quite a few new things.

I'm back, but hot, tired, hungry, and sore. I stayed up late for two nights to make sure a friend could get a ride home after they got off work at 2 AM for those two nights. I just got home from the live action role playing that I do every Sunday. I'll get back to working on my projects in a few days. I have to go back to the mainland tomorrow (8/6/07) to run some errands with the friends that I have been staying with since Friday night. Apartment living is rough when you don't have your own transportation.

All right my fellow SC4D devotees, I'm going to off the web until, at the latest, August 16th. I'm going on a road trip with my fiancée from Jackson, MS to the Boston, MA area to visit family. If I'm lucky somewhere we're staying on the way has an internet cafe. If not, well, I'm sure I'll have a lot to catch up on.

Cheers,
Kevin

Well, I'm back. Or to be more exact, I'm at my parents in Birmingham, AL, only 215 miles from home. At any rate, I'll be in my office chair tomorrow afternoon at my computer.

It was a great trip-3200 miles, 18 states, and lots of great memories.

Now the real question is what happened at SC4D while I was gone...

Well, shame on me- I promised last time I wouldn't let keeping this list updated slide so far, and it slid worse than last time...

...I hate it when that happens...

So, what I plan to do is put this on a sort of schedule- I'll do an update post about three times each month (the 1st, 10th and 20th or so).  That should help keep things manageable.

As you will recall, we note SC4D members who have made 25 or more posts who have not logged in (according to the TOP SECRET Admin Log which is kept at an undisclosed location under heavy security- don't even try to ask) within the past two weeks.  I've now adopted one of jeronij's new tables [linkie] (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=2045.msg60070#msg60070) to help keep track- this should make updating easier and the info is better organized.

Since I last updated the MIA list on June 1st, a little over two and one-half months ago, I won't try to track the comings and goings since then.  This is a fresh start, so to speak, and we'll go forward from here.

Folks on the list- We miss you and hope you'll check in soon!

I really never thought I would post in this thread, however, time has come to inform this community of my absence and the likelyhood of a longer period of time before I can return to active membership. I am involved in moving from Virginia's largest city, Virginia Beach, to a village on Virginia's Eastern Shore, across the Chesapeake Bay. The distance of the move and difficulty of crossing the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel with each load, plus the problem of re-establishing internet connections demand that I take a leave of absence. I am only thankful that CAM was released before this situation manifested itself. I will be away from the maintenance of the CAM lot listing, but my wonderful friends at BSC are pitching in to cover me (as we knew they would). I will stop in, here and then, until settled to say Hi, but deeper involvement is not possible. So until I can return and commit as I have in the past, God Bless you all and see you very soon....David G (Shoreman)

I too am moving soon, so you may not hear from me for some time.  That adds to the next year of my university which may be the hardest to come by, so it may mean less action as there is now (Not alot atm) or more, depending on how happy I am and how rich I am.

It starts on the 14th my freinds! So in advance... Thankyou and speak to you all soon!

After November 7th, I will be offline for a short while. I'm moving to my first apartment and I will need to get internet connected to it. Until I do, I will have to go to a library to use their wireless. Not to mention work keeps me busy from 11am to 8pm most days anyways. My days off are spent taking care of myself and what I need to get done.

The laptop I have been posting from will be the last thing that I shut down on November 7th, just before I leave my parents' house to take the U-Haul to my new place. Don't worry about me while I am gone; I will just be busy for a while.

I'm moving on November 8th, so all the computers will be offline shortly after I wake up on that day. This will be the last message from me for awhile until I find a wi-fi hotspot or get my own internet connection. I won't be in contact for awhile after the move as I will be settling in, working, and/or out and about with friends. I will try to check in once in awhile to let you know I haven't fallen off this plane of existance.

Title: I'm Back
Post by: Orange Julius on November 12, 2007, 03:15:16 PM
A few months ago, I announced a highly ambitious plan to make new BATs. I disappeared shortly thereafter. So, what happened? And where are the BATs? It's a variety of factors...

1) I did not know which copy of LE to get. There was apparently a new version and an old version, and I didn't know what to get.

2) The picture was too complex! The trailer base for the fireworks stand turned out to be some complex geometric shape. Furthermore, the fact that it was impossible to scale, move, or delete, and the only decent FAQ someone had at Simtropolis was like, 100 pages long, caused me to get cold feet.

3) Lack of time. I'm a high school student, and homework and general fatigue takes its toll. Furthermore, I have other interests and a massive backlog of Game Boy games I haven't touched in months.

4) Computer troubles. My computer is pretty slow, it is only a touchpad (no mouse), and during that time I've dropped it, it has suffered numerous crashs, sudden freezes, files corrupting and repairing themselves, and a mysterious BIOS beeping one morning that went away by afternoon.

5) Lack of alternatives. I want to work on boxy things for a start, which is why I wanted Stage (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=2115.0).

6) I'm just lazy sometimes. $%Grinno$%

Now, I do want to revisit SC4 and take it from another angle. Let's take it right next time, shall we?

Just a heads-up, folks.

I will not be at SC4D for the next week because I am going on holidays up the coast tomorrow with friends. It's a road trip, folks!

For those people (NAM and NHP) who I'm team members of, I've left some small details (email) for them, just in case they need to tell me about something.

Have fun, folks, while I'm gone!

Will be back on Sunday.

Today, I was informed that Khiyana had a serious car accident shortly after Christmas. She lost her husband and got injured severely herself, and now she's recovering in a hospital after one week of artificial coma. She will have to stay in rehab for quite a while afterwards, so the complicated femoral neck fracture she sufferend will heal properly. Thanks to her best friend Beate, who informed me about the tragic accident and asked me to post the information here as well. My deepest condolences to her loss, and I hope that she will recover soon!

Does anyone know what happened to Chrisadams3997? He hasn't posted since November and left several B.A.T. projects (including the RRP) unfinished. Perhaps RL has taken over?

Well, that...that's bad news. He got me a picture of a fireworks stand I intended to BAT and I was pretty interested in the Rural Renewal Project because that's just what I needed...a bit of real Texas in my city! Random ranch dirt paths that lead seemingly nowhere, wildflowers (he made a bluebonnet teaser, but nothing came of it...), tubers down a river, and random grazing cows that actually stay there instead of vaporizing one day.

Here's the interesting part...I live in the same town as he! Yup, good old College Station...

Unfortunately, I looked his number up in a (relatively recent) phonebook...45 "Adams"s, and not one Chris to be found.

Bizarrely, googling him (and the city) turns up a few results, confirming what I could've guessed, a college student living near campus.
It doesn't give his apartment number, though: I'd hate to be harassed by a bunch of strangers from an Internet forum.

Although I've never batted anything, I definitely know the types of stuff he was trying to shoot for...

It's been quite a while since I routinely updated the lists in this thread.  That's one of the downsides about growth- back when SC4D's membership was numbered in the hundreds, I could keep more or less ongoing track of almost everybody.  I pretty much stopped by every thread with new posting in it every day, and had a pretty good handle on who was coming and going.

Now, our membership is approaching 10,000 folks.  There are almost 3,800 threads and that number grows by about eight every day.  I still get around quite a bit, but the thing has grown far beyond my ken on any given day.

That said, there remains the significance of friends who are missed.  Here at SC4D, at least for me, it is far more, as I read back in a thread, than wondering as I come across a comment made by someone whose nic I haven't seen for awhile, "Yeah, I wonder whatever happened to old whatshername..."  I find myself often clicking on that member's link, looking to see when he or she was last around.  Sometimes I go further, clicking on the "View Last Posts" link and reading once again some of what that person had to say to us.  Usually I find something that brings a smile- "Oh, man, I remember that one."

One of the benefits of cyberspace is that, by its nature, fairly well organized data accumulates without a lot of tending.  You just have to know where to look, or what link to click to organize it.  Sometimes it takes a little effort to extract what you'd like to know from what you find, but one's search, if you know what you're looking for, rarely goes completely unrewarded.

Back when I did this before, the threshold for making the MIA list was making 20 posts and then being gone for more than two weeks.  The lists grew up into the 20s or so, and we then moved folks who hadn't been around for two months onto a separate "Gone but not forgotten" list.  Some folks came back, others didn't but were spotted elsewhere in the SC4 community.  A few have simply disappeared, as is fairly easy to do in cyberspace.  We will always assume the best of reasons, and hope that we will someday see our friends again.

I've given some thought to how we could recapture at least some of the orderliness of our old MIA list system.  Here's the best I've come up with to date: On or about the last day of each month we will post a list of the site's Citizens (those folks who have made 64 or more comments in the forums) who haven't been seen during that month.  We'll note the date the member was last on SC4D.  After a member has shown up on the list three months running, we'll reactivate the "Gone but not forgotten" list and move those folks onto it.  We'll also probably devise an index post (maybe using the first one on an updated basis) so each month's lists will be fairly easy to find.  Your suggestions, as always, as to how we could improve on these ideas are always welcome.

David

Funny when you read the list you remember reading some of their posts.

I miss Sober - Kelvin, I believe.  I wonder if he's still lurking?

And not on the list is capo, (last post in Feb) who had an amazing MD going and we had quite a few conversations.  I have his email address so will drop him a line.

Good list David, thanks.

EDITAnd thank you, Paul.  I have added Heinz, Snaper, flame1396. Bluebeard and capo, as your calling the latter to my attention made me realize I had missed them while editing the list.  It should be correct now. -DE

Hi folks!

I want to thank you all for your thoughts and wishes  :)
I know that I don't write a lot, because I can read and understand english well, but writing.... &ops
Physically I'm OK now, psychically most of the time (bad times are mornings, when I wake up in a big empty bed  ()sad() )

But the great membership around SC4 helped me a lot, I'm very happy about this!

And I have to say, that's a great achievement to bring people from all over the world so peaceful togetheter (phew, I hope you understand what I want to say  $%Grinno$% )

Best regards, Khiyana

Hello Khiyana, it's great you feel better now, thank you for informing us, we are thinking about you and wish you all the best!

Many things happen to all of us, good and bad, but that's life. Every of us must find our his/her own way in every situation and I strongly believe you will find it too.
Yes, I also think our community is not only a club of the computer game players, but something much more. Sometimes too much words are not necessary, but it is good to know there are some people exchanging their thoughts and feelings and thinking one about another. It can be greater help that we usually suppose, I know it too  :)

Adam

Its great to have you back Khiyana!

Just looking at the people that are MIA, alot of them are people that were around alot/posted alot in the early days of SC4D. It looks like alot of people have moved on from SC4, considering its an old game now...

Ive also noted that Colyn (a site admin!) isn't active very often anymore, hopefully your ok mate! Please don't forget about us!  ;)

I've sent him an email to the address he was using for Beta testing.  I haven't heard back yet, but fingers crossed.  I do have some of his Rural work for testing, but won't release it with out his say so.

I helped Chris as a beta tester too and I suppose I have most of this stuff (except the last version of fences dedicated to use on steep slopes). I have also his excellent pasture flora (two kinds of low plants with flowers), it could be released separately. If Chris would give a permission for continuing his work, I will help with pleasure!
I was thinking about writing an email to Chris too, but if Diggis have done it yet, I will wait for any information.

I do have a beta version of the football fields, but I can't remember if there were made any changes afterwards. In any case, it would be great if he could send us his most recent stuff. :)

As I noted here [linkie] (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=658.msg143197#msg143197) last month, the MIA list is comprised of those members, Citizen and above, who have not been seen on the SC4D during the past month or more.  You'll recall that you become a Citizen when you have made your 64th post.

We have a few folks who were MIA in April who've returned for more of that SC4D wonderfulness.  They include ssc4k, petercintn, dmscopio, dioangel, pipishere, rushman5, Zaphod and Crissa.  Those joining the MIA ranks are LoneRanger, rickmastfan67, Colyn, beskhu3epnm, sarungman, Eddie, Nealos101, moganite, ExiLe, tag_one, Serkanner, and tkirch.  Hey, welcome back to those who've been gone for a bit.  If you are among the newly missing and see this, give us a post in this thread to let us know that you are still out there.

Summer's on its way! (for you Northern Hemisphere types, anyway- for all those south of the Equator, you have my condolences)  Be seeing everyone around the forums.

Beskhu3epmn, is on the latest MIA.

Well, he's not entirely MIA.  He and I have talked on MSN more recently than he has been on SC4D.  Earlier this year he had a change of jobs, he left a job and went to another city to a new job pportunity, and unfortunately the job fell through.  He is currently living in a basement (rent free) for the time being while he finds a job...  Since he is living rent free he also does not have access to the internet, therefore unable to come online for extended periods of time.

tell'emk he is well missed here at SC4D, and wish him well

Oddly enough, I pick today as a day to announce my removal from the list! I still have nothing solid, and am on a street corner stealing a wireless signal to say hello. dadyrghluv, NO MAPS TO SPEAK OF!!

All of my systems and programs used to make them are on my PC, stashed away 5.5 hours drive away. Once settled, I fully intend to get back to business here.

So...

HELLO ALL!

:o Rickmastfan67 is MIA! Well that sucks, 'cause I was considering (not sure yet!) modifying his RHW textures and releasing a more realistic gray texture set... and if I'm going to legally do it, I'll have to PM him and actually get a response from him, not just say that I based it on his textures. (But I'm not entirely sure that I'll do it at all...that's a lot of textures to fiddle with)

I will be more or less gone for the coming four weeks.

Travelling across Europe from Stockholm to London, to Athens, to Åland and to Coventry,
I doubt I'll be very active around here. I should be returning July 27th.

Have a great summer, everyone on the northern hemisphere!

Hi All

Sorry to be gone again but my PC crashed and I lost everything.
I've now learned to turn off the auto-update from Microsoft.  It
was their final update for Win XP that caused the crash.    >:(

As I noted here [linkie] (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=658.msg143197#msg143197) a couple of months back, the MIA list is comprised of those members, Citizen and above, who have not been seen on the SC4D during the past month or more.  You'll recall that you become a Citizen when you have made your 64th post.

We have a few folks who were MIA in June's list who are back.  They include MsD, Nealos101, ExiLe, Swesim, Giligone, mickebear, oldrogue, and memo.  Those joining the MIA ranks are Frankie, beskhu3epnm , DFire870, petercintn, joelevan, callbat, Mulefisk, Tropod, Darmok, RebaLynnTS, RichGray, dioangel, klaascornelius, and figui.  As always, welcome back to those who've been gone for a bit.  If you are among the newly missing and see this, give us a post in this thread to let us know that you are still out there.

We'll be seeing you around the forums!

I'm still out here even though I haven't been active in the past 3-4 months and not on the list.  I'm hoping to return sometime in Sept if things at work calm down.

EDITSee yoooooooooo... in Septemberrrrrrrrrr...

...haven't heard that in 40 years...

...take care, Blade- we'll leave the light on for 'ya

I'm back! I've been really inactive lately due to my computer being taken away from me, but now I have it so I'm back. And I have had SC4 withdrawals. :D

EDITI was worried that new freeway out to Black Earth was going to be finished before we saw you again, my friend.  Throw a cable attached to something big and stationary around that 'puter! -DE

Just thought I would stop by and let everyone know I'm still alive and kicking :D

Suffice to say my current employment situation (being unemployed that is..) has caused me to drift from SC4 and the community. Not much out there for a construction worker during a housing crisis!

Anyways, I joined the Marine Corps, and will be leaving in October.. There's no telling how long I'll be gone, so I guess I won't have access to a computer for a rather long time. I may check in when at all possible, but odds are that won't happen often. I have always enjoyed being here, and I really wish I could have finished some of my industrial BATs.

All the best!

-Frankie

EDITHey, Semper Fi from all of us here at SC4D, Frankie.  Keep your head down, stay safe, and I still bet we'll be seeing those BATs down the road. -DE

Was not home almost all summer, and now I just moved near Oslo, to go to University...

Guess what I am studying...

Yeah, Urban planning!! :D

just started to play sc4 again, can't wait to share some with you guys ;)

,take care

EDITAll right!  Another land planner on SC4D- that'll make two of us, my friend.  We'll have to start a thread to swap planning stories- I can finally publish my long-suppressed report suggesting soft lighting, light jazz and no cover for the ladies as a way to promote fish spawning activity in the St. Lawrence River.  Great to see you back!  -DE

Sorry, never been gone, just transformed into a lurker.
Ok, I don't vissit as frequent as I did but still playing the game.
I must admit that I don't like the fact the statistics keep track of where I spent my time on SC4D when I'm logged in.   $%#Ninj2
So if you are watching a topic and see that a guest is watching the same topic, it's bound to be me  ;D

EDIT: Hi, LoneRanger- thanks for the update.  I do note that nothing (or nobody) keeps track of where any member spends time on SC4D.  There is simply a field in every member's info that catches the last time he or she logged on to the site.  Hope that addresses your concern- let me know if you would want to know anything else. -DE

I'm not a citizen yet? Bummer. Well, I am back..sort of...I need to re-install everyhing. My laptop crashed and then real life interfered. I hope to get SC4 back up and running and all my plugins and stuff back...hopefully soon...

MaryBeth

EDITMB- hey!  Only 16 more posts and you too can make a future list.  But let's not worry about that- there's no reason to be on such a list at all.  Just give us a heads-up every 30 days or so, and you'll be fine.  Oh, and from this member's standpoint, you've been missed very much, and it's great to hear you're OK and plan to be back.  Let us know if you need any help with those plugins. -DE

Hi, i'm also sorta back.
Real Life is keeping me busy right now, so i don't have the time to play Sc4 that often anymore,
but i'm still lurking in the forum every now and then, to see what has happened during my absence. :)

It's my sorrow to report that I won't be around here for much longer.  Real life is starting to become a real pain.  I'm burning myself out with two jobs.  Between that and keeping my girlfriend happy (long-distance relationships suck), SC4 has become the odd hobby out.

I'll pop back in when I can every now and then, but I probably won't be doing much SC4-related over the next little while.

Wow, I almost forgot what this place was like... ><;

The reason for my absence was that I didn't remember what exactly my password was, and it seems that all my saved passwords got reset when I upgraded to Firefox 3. ::)

So yeah, I'm back, and I'll probably be staying for awhile. (at least until Firefox upgrades again and resets my passwords... again... &sly :D)

EDITWelcome back, Cosmic!  Hey, this post is as good a way as any to remind everyone to set your password reminder hint in your profile.  It's easy, it's fun (well, if you have a low standard for fun) and it will save your butt a year and a half after you forgot that nifty cool password you used to set up your account.  Just sayin'. -DE

We have back during the past month the most ever members who were MIA in the previous month's list.  They include bat56, fernby, schm0, Mulefisk, Tropod, dioangel, keithsed, soulstealer, jen_p, vab423, flame1396, kwakelaar, and oldrogue.  Those joining the MIA ranks are unassigned, Couchpotato, Russell, Frankie, beskhu3epnm, klaascornelius, Palpatine001, ssc4k, petercintn, callbat, and mickebear.  As always, welcome back to those who've been gone for a bit.  If you are among the newly missing and see this, give us a post in this thread to let us know that you are still out there.

We'll be seeing you around the forums!

I hope this is the right place to announce this:

I'm going to be less active from now on. I got a new PC last week with Spore, and that's a interresting game to me. So I still will be around here, but less frequent.

Best,
Maarten

I've been laying the past few months. I actually check the site out once in a while but I don't check the site for days and it feels like I haven't been here for weeks. Finals week is just around the corner. I think I missed a lot these past few days. The good news is that when this is over, which will probably end a week from now. Hey everyone, I'm back! I've been gone for a few months (I think since August or September?) because, well, I just got burned out on SimCity. Then I started playing another really addicting game which I dare not mention ;), then got burned out on that one and have had the urge to play SimCity again.

I am just poping in to say hi to you all, so "Hi!"!

Anyhow, I miss you all wholalot, I definetly miss reading and watching your creations.

Sadly to say, I am not as of yet back... I just found and oportunity to say hi to you and let you know that I am still breathing and kicking tho cous I dont want anybody here to worry about me and I dont want you all think that I forgot you bounch.

So here are few facts "$Deal"$ about why I am not here ( :( ) :
-my computer died soon after the last post that I did and couldnt buy a new one (still cant  :bomb: ) because of RL stuff that sucks
-surfing the net over the phone is to darn expensive
-RL isnt nice to me

Anyhow, I managed to convince my mum to visit me for few days and she was so kind as to bring her computer with her and ofcourse I used this oportuninty to pop in. I will probably look at few creations around, maybe say a word or two if time allowes... in any case I am hoping that I will be able to get back here full time soon.

Miss you all!

Hi folks, I thought I would drop in to let the community know I still exist. You know how RL is. The winter here on Virginia's Eastern Shore has been brutal and this little fruit farm of mine needs work, that is if I expect to make it this season. My graphics company has taken off and I have far more jobs than I can handle, most are monthly presentation videos, so that swallowed the winter. And, I have been hired as Production Director for the Palace Theatre in Cape Charles and with four major productions last season, and 10 this upcoming season, well there goes any time I have left. I still drop in and lurk, and enjoy all that you are doing. Perhaps I will find time to enjoy the game again some time this summer. Best to all of you....Shoreman

Hi guys, I'm baaaack!  ;D

I left as I stopped playing SC4 for awhile as it was taking up too much space on a partitioned 80 GB HDD, had to make room for other things. However, I got a new PC, 2TBs of space, will that be enough for my plugins? :P And RL sorta got in the way.

Now, of course, I need to re-DL everything that's good, and of course I have forgotten the essential mods and things! Rawr. Let's see, NAM, CAM, SPAM...nonono, that's not right :P I still remember stuff, kinda... :)

Hello again! It's been 2½ years since I last played SC4 (and visited this community). Now I'm going to have another shot, starting out with getting updated files and getting my game into a playable state (tho with Simtropolis down and the LEX seemingly erratic it's going to take me some time).

I'm glad to see the community still up and running, bravo!

I still talk to him every now and then. But I believe we need to come together and find a way to continue his work and keep updating this list and maybe contact other "missing" fellow members and just let them know that we still care about them and wish them well and such.

So I guess this is a good place to post about my return. What's up everyone? My local government sponsored me for a 13 month extended vacation somewhere that lacked computer access among many other things. But I am lookiing forward to getting back into things as soon as I recover all my backups and update all my files, not to mention get my main system up and running. Should be soon. =)

Hi. Saw the light on. Thought I'd drop by. Haven't touched SC4 for quite some time. Do a bit of Minecraft these days, but that's as close as I get to the old SC.

Hoping not to get in trouble for thread resurrection on my first time back in close to 3 years but I'm finally taking my first steps back in SC4 after a huge hiatus. (had a ton of trouble with SC4 and CTD issues on my old PC so I just gave up in the end). Now I'm using the steam version and everything seems to be good again. Might even try to get a City Journal going again as the Invermere Valley CJ I was doing was the most fun I ever had in SC4. Looking forward to catching up with the new toys on the LEX too :)

Well I'm still alive.   Last August my PC took a lightning strike.   It fried everything.  and I mean EVERYTHING.   I couldn't afford to replace it.   Finally I have a new laptop.   Haven't even loaded SC yet.   Also, I got married.   And my wife has breast cancer.  (last chemotherapy was today as well.)
Just wanted to let ya'll know I am still alive.

After a 6 year absence, I'm back! In those 6 years, I moved to Montana, got my associates degree in Criminal Justice, got married and hurt my back at work so can't work for awhile. I decided after playing SC4 for a couple of days that Batting was much more fun!

Unsure how many remember yours truly, but I decided to poke around for the first time in a very long time today.  It's hard to believe that I picked up my first copy of SimCity when I was a freshman in high school...now, I'm 28 and living on my own in the city of Buffalo, NY.  I'm a professional insurance agent, and I do public address & music for several area hockey teams.

I'm also getting married in July to a sweet gal who might love hockey more than I do.

We shall see if I pick the BAT back up & start churning out road signs again.  Hopefully, I'm able to do so.

It's been 7 years since I played SC4 or visited this forum. My how it has grown and prospered since!

Time has gone by quickly. Holiday season 2004 is when I acquired my first copy of this game as a kid just starting high school. I was admittedly addicted from the start and even more so when I discovered addons, mods, and such. Even dabbled a little bit in content creation myself although I suspect those talents are long gone from me.

I joined this site not long after its creation and had always wondered how much it would grow over time. Here we are so many years later with a firm answer to that question!

BarbyW has passed away, I think it was early last year or something, so did Moose and jmouse (lately) I guess one day we all have to go, some earlier and others later. I have been around for almost 15 years now, having stated with ST, then SC4D and Peg. Peg I have not heard of for some time now.
Greenbelt on FSUK ? Under the same name?
If you played FS13, then you will like my project that I hope to finish before the year ends. ;)

Pegasus hasn't been part of the community for many years now. The collapse of SimPeg was mostly due to the fact that there were no backups of the site when its database got corrupted. You can probably find him frequenting the Newport club that he's part of. I hear he's doing well there.

Paeng, alas, had a stroke amidst working on some SC4 stuff, and in the recovery discovered that he'd essentially forgotten everything worth knowing about SC4. You can still find his website up, as he maintains it for us his old fans, but he can't really play the game now, and mostly sticks to stuff like Banished where I understand he spent a lot of time during his relearning process.

BarbyW died about 2 years ago, I think. See her obituary thread here: http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=16905.0 (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=16905.0)

Should probably not necro a thread, buuuuuut...

This game still holds an incredible place in my heart, and this fandom an even bigger one. The SimCity 4 community is where I first learned, essentially, how to "internet"--I was a freshman in college in 2005, and I finally got a computer that could run SC4 after having gone through most of high school playing SC3K. From this community, I learned things that now seem commonplace: how to conduct myself in a forum, the right (and wrong) ways to convey emotion or emphasis online, etc. I learned basic photo editing for sharing pictures, I learned how to navigate online friendships, and somewhere in there, I also learned how to play the game better.

I haven't played a city builder in some time, though I still am into C:S, and I'll pop in SC4 every now and then for nostalgia's sake. But I just wanted to come in and say hello to you folks who, despite the *ahem* odd screenname, accepted me wholeheartedly, and gave me probably the best foundation I could ask for to navigate the online world we have today. And thank you for keeping this wonderful game alive!

P.S.--The forum looks amazing! Love the new design!

Isaac, it's truly awesome to see you around these parts!  Thank you for the very kind words, and indeed, I've always considered you a very vital part of the SC4 community, and SC4D in particular, who definitely helped me feel welcome here when I first arrived.

I hope you won't be a stranger--you're always welcome here--and if you're a Discord type, we have an official SC4D server now, too (https://discordapp.com/invite/NsNZHEC).
