Beautiful industries and beautiful picture editing. I like the effect you make
???
Really excellent picture  . really inspiring ;)
Really, really nice! But I'm actually most impressed by the fact that you actually managed to grow that Gascooker factory. Now, that's HARD. ;D
great shot &apls. the power lines are the added touch that makes it realistic. I've never been a big fan of dirty industrial areas, but I may re-think that now.
Wonderful image! Great effect! &apls
this is mine...... not as good as Marcszar..... but still in the right theme.......

wonderful picture of the industrial area, sarungman!
great overview, DuskTrooper!
hei bat, just wanna ask u sumthin :)..... in this topic, why do u always say "great", and "wonderful",.... is there anythin u can say instead of those two??? :P
marcszar... I NEVER thought industrial areas in sim city could look THAT good.
wonderfull-amazingly stunning look.
also the effect adds lots of atmosphere to it.
great.
Marcszar.... ur pics make my head spin a lot!!! ur photo editing skill make those picture nearly realistic..... i love all ur pics....
Wow, very nice, I love that freight station looking thing there in the second pic, is that the modular freight station?
anyway, I figured i'd add a few of mine, nuthin fancy but I never really see any hi tech stuff so i thought i'd add my own

they're all from a two cities, neither of which i have anymore due to my folly of buying a stock dell and thinking it would
support anything without a hitch, but i was kinda proud of them in that they're the only cities i ever had that i got over
200k pop and 1mil funds without any mods except for water trees and terrain
This is about as much of my industrial area as I've ever photographed (sad, ain't it? :-[). That'll change soon, however (hopefully... ;)):

Wow, Marcszar! Beautiful pics. Are those lots available anywhere. More specifically, the power lines, train yards, and dock area?
glepet: those power lines are, i believe, jphayden creations, available at all the exchanges, the docks are somys, look in the japan so close yet so far column fo links, and the train yard (i think) is the modular freight station, search the stex for modular. and if you want other cool ports, go here
http://www1.megaegg.ne.jp/~tokitoko/
you'll need to dl a japanese fontset if you dont have one already
Thanks for the info. I did find the train station modular set shortly after posting the question. Now I'll look for the others. Again, beautiful pics.
marcszar, your pics are truely inspirational, which is not easy to archive with industrial stuff I think, so, great job!
Here's one industrial area I created recently. Nothing very special, but it helps to keep the demand down :-\
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg223.imageshack.us%2Fimg223%2F6981%2Findustrievp1.th.jpg&hash=9369e99a283472755c6c6d40093b743fdaf78ee9) (http://img223.imageshack.us/my.php?image=industrievp1.jpg)
Praiodan, the road layout in that area looks like a maze.. I guess it will drive the truckdrivers nuts! :D
Not a wasteland per se, this is the best (worst?) my region currently has to offer:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg373.imageshack.us%2Fimg373%2F3570%2F03050701hauptbruckeindusf5.jpg&hash=0aa347490e9f34680cc890e6d9f85e46de34a28a)
The main industrial area of the city of Hauptbrücke (poor German for main/head bridge), complete with a (now unused) small port for export.
Oh, how I hate those I-HT! You try to build a nice, poor industrial dump and what you get? Friggin' high tech manufacturers and CO$$$! ...And the I-d and I-m that do agree to show up are enough to distress that Simgoober's modern warehouse... Such is life.
Nice job MIncroabl. If you want to get rid of I-HT and CO$$$, just raise the tax rate for those to 20%, and bulldoze those that have been built.
Unfortunately that's a rather poor solution. I don't want to get rid of them completely. It always amuses me when people complain that they can't get richer sims to stay in their city, as my situation is the complete opposite... Nowadays I struggle to lower the desirability of an area to get more R$ and the industries and commercial services they require.
Looks good, MIncroabl! I love the bridges, especially the rail one! Great job!

I have the same problem. I lowered the taxes on D-I but I can't get them to grow. What else can I do?
That's a beautiful industrial area!

simple just plop some of the negative maxis rewrds.... the prison is the best for it... boosts low wealth demand and lowers desireability... its great... and looks pretty industrial so blends in,
Very good pics, especially by marczar. Your pictures are simply authentic. I spent most of my working time in such surroundings an I know what I say.
I would like to present something... &mmm Maybe it is not typical, but it is definitely an industrial object.
This large hole in the middle of mountains is a mine. A little known, mysterious company is looking for crystals here (as you know, there are many crystals in mountains). I don't know, but i suspect they are working for Svarovski :P
I hope you like it

I shouldnt really do this i guess... but i cant keep myself from it. Im gonna preview a imsy wimsy tiny part of Sevastopol... a small dock close to the citycentre, ah, yes. an Industrial dock area, else i would find a more apropriate location for the piccy.
Pictures are lightly Photoshopped... honestly, i havnt done that much on them...

Great looking industrial area! Also nice pictures at night, ky72x!
Ky72x, nice pictures. I particularly like where their built up next to the sunken highway(what wall is that by way?) and the use of the power lines. It's little things like that that give it that extra little touch. It's also nice how the lots are all large and a little open, avoids that cluttered, hodpodge feel of a lot of industrial areas.
Here's something I cooked up recently
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg170.imageshack.us%2Fimg170%2F1853%2Findwasteland1xu7.jpg&hash=61aea79678fb698797d25482fba2408eeb7ff060) (http://imageshack.us)
Daaaaaaaaaaaaang Chrisadams you are simply real great at those angles.. i love that pic
btw how in the world do you do it??? i bet its something sooo very simple too lol
lol, kinda stubbled into it myself.
There are probably several ways to approach it, but I start out by rotating the image to the left 30 degrees, then using a skew effect, which I presume photoshop has, I actually use an older version of Corel's paint shop pro. Then you rotate the image back to the right. depending on which way you skew(verticle/horizontal-left/right) the the image and how much, not to mention the angle you rotate the image to before the skew, detiremines what kind of effect it has on the image.
Without knowing what program you have and how it handles these operations it's hard to describe beyond that, so I'd just play around with it and see what you get.
Oh yea, and you will lose part of the image in the corners, as the end result will not be square and thus has to be cropped. Plan your original shot on that knowledge, or possibly paste several shots together to get a larger original.
Perhaps I'll eventually write a proper tutorial on it if there is any demand for it, and once I understand more of it myself. good luck!
bat: Thanks, I'm glad that you liked it!
Chrisadams3997: Thank you! You have a very good industrial area as well. The trees at the bottom look nice! The sunken highway walls are by buddybud, and can be found at http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=16283&v=1 (http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=16283&v=1). You might also want to download some of the other packs designed to go with it, just seach up "buddybud" on the STEX. I like to create industrial areas, and having open areas for parking or storage is a must. They look much better that way, I agree with you! ;D
Great picture of that industrial area, Chrisadams3997!
Not much for "wasteland", but I'll give it a shot:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg485.imageshack.us%2Fimg485%2F3482%2Fhtindnv5.jpg&hash=2bfe2a9897b65eb41e075955c8640d2c5d63329e)
That's looking great, willy88!
... And here's that same area, after installing the CAM (and few other mods as well...):
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg259.imageshack.us%2Fimg259%2F3350%2Fhtind2wu6.jpg&hash=5f58d76027da10308deac912177924ec8ceb4fc4)
Wonderful changes, willy88! Great work!
It's not exactly a "wasteland", but after weeks of withdrawal, I finally had some time to play SC4 again. I started a new city with some industry, and it's the first time where I'm using a new mod that is in the making - it modifies all my industrial lots so I-D and I-M only grow on medium density industry zones, and I-HT only on high density zones. It's a lot easier to create realistic industrial areas, but unfortunately, the mod is hard to maintain, since you have to change the DATs all the time once you install a new industrial building.
Anyway, after more than four years playing SC4 it's the first time that I thought of placing small 1x1 commercials in the blank spots between the industrial lots - after all, the workers need a place for lunch, and what's better for lunch than a small diner or a red hots stand? I also like the high voltage power line that goes through the industrial area; it wasn't really planned like this, but the outcome was rather nice.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg463.imageshack.us%2Fimg463%2F716%2Fcedarbasin800x600mk7.jpg&hash=fd129e4f376af398ebefa59747d358543f0112c1)
Your industrial area is looking very nice, Andreas! Great work on it!
Very impressive work. I really like how the area is layed out, and how there is a great variety in the buildings.
That mod sounds very, very interesting. I love making industrial areas and it would be very helpful. I tend to get a lot of I-HT when I don't want to - and that usually results in constant bulldozing of the area. :D
- Kyle
That's a great idea using the 1x1 commercial lots. Fits in well, as do the power lines.
in my opinion, it can't be a wasteland when so many images posted here appears so functional.

Just a little something I've done for my MD, suppose to be a socialist factory area near the docks.
That's a great mosaic of that industrial area, Yoman! Great work!
Yoman, that is an awesome mosaic. Very realistic and perfectly planned. One of the best.

I love the very socialist look, what with the prefabs and the factories right next to it. It even kinda looks cold and bleak, like Eastern Europe before the snow comes.
Here is my industry :)

Thats really really nice...
@flame1396: What a pity, they are a great piece of art! I do love the electric poles, and except the 3/4 circle in the last pic great railway layout!
Very good looking industrial area there, flame1396!

Excellently disgusting and grimy industrial areas. Nice use of the creek there Tom. Too bad it's not brown with sludge.
Good work here everyone
I always liked it dirty ... when it comes to industry in SC4
@ky72x: That's a helluva harbour, just WoW! Jus one questions: What's that big building to the left of the train and below the containers?
Bernhard
Bernhard: Thanks! That particular building is the Black's Ice Company (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1365) by jestarr.

Those bridges would have looked a little better with the overhanging seawalls, and they look very low. However, I think you have created one nice industrial seaport! Great variety in the lots you've used. That's always one of the first things I look for in a SC picture. I like all the action that is taking place in your pictures, especially the train in the first pic and the cars in every shot.

Thanks Kyle, I did those bridges that way because I wanted them to be at terrain level, without the slopes that briges need. And the overhanging seawalls covered the avenue and rail so I didn't use them.

Actually i don't - I love 'em!
One thing I have always missed in most large industrial lots (actually most large lots in general) is much more free space for parken loading/unloading goods etc. These lots seem perfect to me. Paid most attention to the texture? Well, the detail level is very, very good to. That's a fact!
Are you considering uploading these lots? (I won't take no for an answer- ;))
An industrial area featuring custom lots I made;

wiederhoren, I dunno what to say, but I like what I'm seeing :).
Sometimes you're really lucky.
You made up a decent transportation system, use some rather "exotic" transport systems (it's the second time ever I used ElRail over road ;) ) and station (it's the first time I used arcedelia's station) and then some long waited growable grow just for the first time (never saw Domino's Sugar Factory in one of my cities!) where they just fit together: :)

Here are two views of Blairsville in my newest region, Bradford Shores. Hopefully it'll make it to a MD in the future but I'm using a big map that will take a while to get developed.
Not sure if this counts as a wasteland, but this is how I tend to build industrial sections. I try to space the factories with either ploppable junk or the growable stuff like the chemical cooling units behind the cheese factory. This town is the HQ of one of the rail lines in the region so it's got a decent sized rail yard.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg230.imageshack.us%2Fimg230%2F2545%2Fblairsvillejul161171245.jpg&hash=ed22be8b4cbcc78d366c50c5f82b333badb5d014)

For what it's worth, I'm using the Marseilles map for this region. If you're looking for a map with several sites for big cities, great mountains and valleys, check it out. Great map.
Looks great Skell! I like the way you build up your industrial area's, I'm going to try that as well &apls
Nice variety, and I like the spacing between the lots. I try to do the same with my industrial areas as well, they just don't look good in huge bunches. Good use of those diagonal fillers, too. :)
I agree about the need to avoid huge bunches. Industrial facilities need space for trucks and equipment to move outside.
Skell,
I really like the level of detail that you have added to this area. Your use of the diagonal fillers is perfect. The ability to make the lot look diagonal and follow the shape of the roads are perfectly done. And I for one, disagree with having "bunches" of industrial lots so close together. Yes the trucks need space to move, but not really that much that your picture/area looks unrealistic. I think you have done a fantastic job and would love to see more of your city if it looks as good as what you have shown us so far.
Robin &apls
Very good work Skell, especially with diagonal fillers, walls and textures. The whole area (including residential part) looks very well planned and realistic.
I hope we will see more of your pictures!
Adam
Thanks Robin and Adam. I hope to get some more of this town, and others, posted in the next few days. However my weekend plans of golfing will get in the way a bit. This town has plans for a facelift of downtown, but keeping with the low-rise, small town downtown scheme. Maybe I'll do some before and after shots. It's also getting a big portion devoted to the JB Simio University set. I'm still experimenting with those to see how to work them best.

That is certainly true.
Using the stuff in another way than it was meant to in the first place is one of the creativity challenging things of the game.

@Moe31
I believe you are asking about SOMY's line of industrial BATS. Go to: http://members3.jcom.home.ne.jp/somy000/index.htm and download to your hearts content. Keep it Japanese, the page seems to lose functionality when translated. Scroll down and find a line of links
"Home P1 P2 P3 P4 P5 ... etc" these are the download pages. Just click on the pictures of the lots you want and blamo, they will start downloading.
Also consider a LEX power search of 'Tag One' <--- that may not be technically correct but you wont miss it
Also, in case you didnt already know, the big @ss powerlines are from 'Heblem' (or Heblam) over on the STEX

Adroman, you make my day !
ume marcszar has a couple large industrial factories which I use quite often, mostly because they are modeled after buildings in the city where I live, but also cuz they are really nice BATs :) I would check them out if you like this factory
Travismking, I use to live in Washington DC and Baltimore was a common destination for me. I really like the inner harbor with the shops, the aquarium and USS Constellation.
This plant, that can be seen from it, always attracts my view when I was there.
I do agree with you and I've already download other stuff like the very nice rowhouse.

No, it's not a wasteland: it is very effectively used land, so no waste....
But thats goes for almost all images on this thread. I am really curious if someone has real wastelands like the abandoned industrial areas in Berlin, Britain, or Detroit? Empty acres, rundown factories, empty warehouses, trees growing out of the roofs etc...
Alright... Let's keep this going. :D

So you don't mean cent-er, one-who-cents?
Makes cents.
Counts as a wasteland because despite high I-HT demand, and I-HT desirability, the buggers just won't move back in after a historical problem with education caused abandonment and demolition in the zone.
Pedestrian bridges and subways for people traffic, rail for freight traffic. Stable as is but annoying that it won't fill back in as it did immediately when first platted. NAM Z traffic simulator in case it matters.

It looks to me like you have just zoned non-directional lots of in-specific sizes. Try looking at your plugins to choose some likely industries you would like to grow. If one is say 3x4, zone a 3x4 industrial area holding down the control key. If it is not developing still, spray it with god-mode trees.

Correct, I initially non-directionally zoned the entire areas between transport networks and then plopped the parks down.
Spraying with trees did cause the neighborhood to fill back in almost completely within a year or so. $%Grinno$%
So, I suppose the initial fast fill was probably due to the god-mode trees which I carpeted the city with prior to enabling mayor mode.

Stupendous, Uzil. A very impressive industrial area - the smoke/smog is a very nice touch!

@Mikey Knox:
wonderful area! I really like how you left (imho the right amount of) space between the factories and buildings.
I dare to suggest to include a maximum width of 1024 pixels for your pictures in the BBcode of your post by writing something like this:
[img width=1024]>linktoyourpic<[/img]
The picture will be shown with that maximum width but will enlarge if you click on it. This is to comply with the site rules and cheering up the moderator (as well as increasing readability). ;)
No Problem, i was thinking about this myself why it blasts the whole Screen and others didnt *fixed*
Industrial? Yes. But wasteland? Can't say that.

I really like that port, I've worked in logistics for 4-5 years, have went to several big harbor cities such as Rotterdam or Le Havre, and you really captured the feel of it.
