The history of Berlin itself is the history of Germany itself, as we know it
today. Two towns founded around 1200, Berlin and Cölln, joined in
1307 form a single city of 7,000 inhabitants still called Berlin.

Brandenburg As part of the kingdom of Prussia, Berlin became the capital of the Empire
German (in 1871) when Prussia achieved the unification of Germany after first defeat
Austria in the Seven Weeks War (1866) and then ending the Second Empire
French to defeat his army in the Franco-Prussian War. Since then experienced
a significant population increase, from 824 484 inhabitants in 1871
1,888,313 in 1900 and to 4,024,165 in 1925. The city became a reference
cultural, architectural and financial center worldwide.

~ Nazi's Capital ~

Capital of Nazi Germany, Berlin in 1939 reached its maximum population with
4,338,756 inhabitants. The Führer Adolf Hitler planned large urban works
scale by Albert Speer and the renaming of this, Germania,
that were not carried out due to the onset of World War II, during
which most of the city was destroyed by aerial bombardments
by the British Royal Air Force and the USAAF, the United States aircraft, at
who joined the Battle of Berlin against the Soviet army represented by
Georgi Zhukov. As a result of bombing and ground battles killed thousands
civilians. After the defeat of the Nazi regime, Berlin was divided into four sectors
under the administration of four partners.

~ The Berlin wall ~

In 1948, the three western sectors (West Berlin), those under
respective control U.S., France and Britain, were reunited in
within the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG), to which the Soviet Union
said the blockade of West Berlin and the creation of the Democratic Republic
Germany (GDR) in 1949, with its capital in East Berlin. This blockade failed thanks
the airlift maintained by Western forces from Germany.

In 1961, the GDR built the Berlin Wall called to separate the two
parts of the city, and indeed to isolate West Berlin in the GDR, to
to end the migration of Germans from east to west. The wall
which had a total of 144 km, was one of the best known symbols
of the Cold War and the partition of Germany. Many people died in
the attempt to overcome the harsh supervision of the border guards of the GDR
way to the western sector. The exact number of victims is
subject to dispute and are not known with certainty. The numbers of different
versions ranging between 86 and 238 dead.

Many West Berliners also left the city feeling
of insecurity or for economic reasons: the isolated town and set in
territory of Soviet influence, but massively subsidized, no
could provide the same opportunities as the rest of the country, contributing
to the decrease in the number of inhabitants.

The Berlin Wall fell on November 9, 1989, accepting the government
the GDR the free movement of citizens between the two parts of the city.
Almost a year after the GDR disappeared, in fact annexed to Germany, which
in 1990 moved its capital from Bonn to Berlin, thereby giving EU membership
the population of the former republic.

Today Berlin is a large lot under construction. Cranes dominate the skyline of
city, many buildings have been renovated, historic sites such as Potsdamer
Platz and emblematic buildings, such as the Reichstag, have regained their former glory.
The best architects in the world built or rebuilt a number of
public and private buildings. It is expected that by the year 2015 re-build
Imperial Palace of the city destroyed during the Second World War.
This project involves the creation of a large cultural and commercial center in the
Inside the new building, whose facade will be an exact copy of the original.

The exact location of the City of Berlin is 52 º 31 '12 "north latitude,
13 º 24 '36 "east longitude.'s Largest east-west direction is about 45 km,
and north-south about 38 km. The city area is approximately 892
km ². Berlin is completely surrounded by the State of Brandenburg and is
east of the Federal Republic of Germany, approximately 70 km west of
the Polish border. The city is one of the conurbations of the Federal Republic.

Berlin is situated in a region formed during the ice age in the Urstromtal
(Old course) in Warsaw and Berlin, between the highlands and Teltow Barnim.
The historic center of Berlin is at the narrowest point of the River Spree to
passage through the Urstromtal. In Spandau, the western district of Berlin, the Spree

• I want to welcome you to " Onder Bolender ", a town near Holland
from the German border, is a city of medium size but full of monuments, has
with a large number of churches and cathedrals of different architectural types.
The overall architecture of the city is mixed but predominantly Dutchmen styles
and Germans in most of the city •

• The city begins to be important when the conquering Germans in 1456 and this
begins to develop and grow over the years, the Dutchmen again be
owners of this city and quickly gained a reputation for hosting special large number of people

~ In the picture you can see one of the cathedrals of the city ~

• Something important in the history of the city occurred in the 40s, when the city after
being bombarded for months just seriously damaged, the population suffered many
low and the few survivors had no shelter and food, one of the anecdotes more
Weird is that practically all the churches and cathedrals survived the
bombing and later this izo famous cathedrals of the city •

~ In the picture you can see one of the churches before the Second World War ~

• The years after World War II the city suffered a major break up relatively recently,
so today if we ignore their cathedrals and churches has little goodies for visitors, yet
the city has a good level tourism largely caused by all those cathedrals •

~ n the picture you can see the "Frisia Tower" the second tallest building in the city ~

• Currently the city is in a state of evolution, just restore almost all
cathedrals and is in a business area project that will boost economy
city and a great plan to renew and increase the means of transport in which
include major railway and freeway miles. The economy favors through tourism,
thanks to its port between Rotterdam and Hamburg,These features make the
city progress day by day and renew your face and let increasingly behind that

Apparently I've been quite inattentive when it comes to your MD!  Great set of updates over the past while.  I really like the style of those buildings in your Oct 8th  update, that whole set looks great.  But todays update is simply breathtaking!  It's readily apparent you put a great deal of effort into the layout of this area already.  I'm looking forward to seeing what else you've got planned here!

Hello, today we will know one of the most emblematic buildings in Berlin. The new Guard [Neue Wache]
For two days I was working in the BAT to design this beautiful building, I had high hopes
have him in my city to show it and tell a little of its history, location, etc ...
so I really hope you like it and enjoy it.

One of the novelties of the new Berlin Berlin esque attempts to teach in a "tourist"
put it in some way, I mean I will try to you to learn and know this precious
city, its monuments and points of interest in a thorough and informative, using
and real images instead of simcity for a way that you feel more the feeling of being
Berlin really knew their places.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg8.imageshack.us%2Fimg8%2F2619%2Fimagenrealfour.jpg&hash=ebce7113dfcc765a829f6b75f59d162b319ebcef)

[ In this illustration you can see the building around the 1910s ]

• Construction •

The building was designed by German architect Friedrich Schinkel , the maximum exponent
of neoclassicism in architecture. This was the first important commission of Schinkel in Berlin.

King Frederick William III of Prussia ordered the construction of the  Neue Wache  to
commemorate the defeat of Napoleon and the achievement of freedom in Berlin. The construction
was completed in 1818. It is located in the place where formerly stood
the wall that surrounded Berlin.

• Functions and History •

His first role was to commemorate the defeat of Napoleon in the war of liberation, later
in 1931 happened to be a monument to the memory of the German victims of war 1st
world. From 1960 served as a place to commemorate the victims of fascism, currently
is the National Memorial for the victims of war and tyranny around the world.

[ In this picture you can see Adolf Hitler out of the building of the New Guard ]

• During the Second World War •

Berlin was a city bombardeade during the Second World War, many of its buildings
most emblematic were damaged and this was no exception, the building was seriously
aereros attacks damaged by losing some of its structure.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg42.imageshack.us%2Fimg42%2F2995%2Fimagenrealthree.jpg&hash=e93e3b16733e22e61951a4b543c64b8fe26886b0)

[ In this picture you can see the building severely damaged after the Second World War ]

The Neue Wache is located in "Unter den Linden" is the most famous boulevard of the city.

After 1949 the building was located in the Soviet zone and was part of the former
German Democratic Republic. In 1960 the building was reconstructed and repaired, reopened
as a monument to the victims of fascism and militarism.
In 1969, the 20th anniversary of the "GDR" was placed in the center of the building structures
glass prism with an eternal flame, with the remains of an unknown soldier victim
of the concentration camps of World War II.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg340.imageshack.us%2Fimg340%2F5865%2Fneuewachefour.jpg&hash=3987873e7d35a1ba7c154b1e36097346ce78a16e)

After German reunification in 1993, the building was again dedicated to the victims of
war, formally called "Central Memorial of the Federal Republic of Germany for
Victims of war and tyranny. "

The sculpture commemorating the GDR was withdrawn and replaced by a sculpture
Käthe Kollwitz called "A mother with her dead son." This sculpture is
oculo located under the roof of the building and so is exposed to rain, snow and cold
Berlin climate, symbolizing the suffering of civilians during the Second World War.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg245.imageshack.us%2Fimg245%2F9664%2Fimagenrealtwo.jpg&hash=3e8736bc99520cd86d1dc6ee432f02fd1de50c8a)

[ In this picture you can see the inside of the building with the sculpture under the oculo ]

Now a little information from the building if you want to pay us a visit:

• Direction: Unter den Linden, 4. Berlin, Alemania.

• Transport: S. Hackescher Markt.

• Horary: Open to all year.

I was a bit disappointed when you left Brielleterdam, but Berlin makes up to it.
And I got another shock as you told about the Altes Museum. I hoped you were giving us a model of it. I would really love to have this museum in my own cities, but it still isn't there. Maybe a nice job for Debussyman?
But your work is fabulous. I'll jump in more often. Good luck and have a nice new year.  &apls

Yes, indeed I meant the Stadtschloss. I is also known as the Hohenzollernpalast, because it was a palace (Palast) that was inhabited by the Hohenzollern family that ruled Berlin and Brandenburg (later on: Prussia, even later: Germany) for about, I can't remember exactly, I think five centuries.

aNdi is working on a Simcity replica of the Stadtschloss, but work goes slow and it is a lot to do.
Take a look at:

Wow, kelist.

The amount of detail and hard work that youput into your MD really blows me away, and I'm sure it does the same to others. Do you have a lot of free time on your hands, because I know with my amount of time, which I consider fairly a lot, I cannot make anything that would amount to comparison of yours.

Actually talking about the update now, those trees (I believe they are c.p.'s new ones, look great in the plaza. All of the buildings to be in a recreational state of a great city like Berlin is certainly a daunting task. Yet, you are able to perfectly convey the old world charm through modern buildings.

Great job!

Built between 1831 and 1836 in the German capital. When its completion
was one of the most modern buildings in Europe, noted for its innovative utilization
of the metal structure that allowed him to achieve various levels of height.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg294.imageshack.us%2Fimg294%2F1010%2Frealx.jpg&hash=a32bd1b94e795d07e3e7ff74a2fe98023b1c4543)

The building was damaged by Allied bombing of Berlin during the Second
World War and later totally destroyed by the governments of the (RDA)
"German Democratic Republic in 1962.

The building has been reconstructed today [in real life is planned rebuild]
and is located in its original location, close to the river spree and next to the famous church
Friedrichswerde

~ The architect of this building was Friedrich Schink, built by order of the king of Prussia.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg29.imageshack.us%2Fimg29%2F1677%2F1932berlin.jpg&hash=2d7fd64357913f1f47e4bcf4ba2efb761f2275b8)

Finally I leave an image of the building before the war, more specifically of the year
1932, as you can see almost everything is different from today. Currently the area is fully
rebuilt and you can see that buildings, bridges, parks, roads, etc ...
n today been renovated and rebuilt.

I hope you like !

The council is the Rotes Rathaus Berlin Rathausstraße located in the Mitte district.
It is the seat of the mayor and the federal state government of Berlin. The name of this
historic building dates from the facade made of red bricks.

[ In the picture you can see the park "Marx-Engels-Forum" with the background Rotes Rathaus ]

The town hall was built between 1861 and 1869 in the Renaissance style of northern Italy
the architect Hermann Friedrich Waesemann. The architecture of the tower was inspired by the model
the towers of the Cathedral of Laon in France. This building replaced a number of buildings from
of the Middle Ages, which occupies an entire block.

This building was damaged by Allied bombing in World War II. Al located
Berlin in the area occupied by the Soviets, met council functions
East Berlin after its reconstruction during the 1950s according to
original plans, while the Rathaus Schöneberg, served as Senate seat
West Berlin. After German reunification, the Berlin government moved
this building in 1991.

The BAT looks quite good so far. I really like the texture you used for the Windows.
Maybe you should cut the white texture so that it only has the thinner stripes? That would correspond more closely to the real building.

If you look at photos, the ground floor looks a bit different from the upper floors, so you could invest into some detail there. But so far it looks really good.

It's always a pleasure to stop by your MD and browse through your wonderful pictures.
I find what I like the most is your style of city building and you never seem to photoshop your pictures too much.  Although to be honest.....the smoke from the chimney doesn't look very well done, not that I know how to do it any better though. ;)
All the buildings are so similiar enough that the city looks very believable and realistic and just like Nedal, I think I would love to be sipping on a cappucinno while watching the rain fall from inside one of those street side cafes.

Thanks for the church! I got almost everything by Haarlemmergold, but must have overlooked this somehow.

My grandmother grew up in Berlin and could have been photographed on that postcard as a young girl. She is from 1903. Her younger sister from 1906 is still alive! A 104 years old and still living in her own house in Neukölln.

Beautiful work again!

But the BAT is beautiful. May we also taste the excellence of it in our own humble cities?

Isn't necessary to say that i really admire the work you are doin on the recreation of my capital for SC4! I really like all that pictures of the hot spots of Berlin. The only thing i critsize is the avenue "Unter den Linden". I don't know why you put that broken floor... it's a boulevard which is in a very good condition and has that typical mosaic floor, which you find in many places of Berlin. Also i'm missing some streetlights that give the flair to this boulevard... just see the pictures:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ld-host.de%2Fuploads%2Fimages%2Fd34357021e250c3ee1bb2157e608221e.jpg&hash=424d6e94ed33f07820da4813832dba2339b96c16)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ld-host.de%2Fuploads%2Fimages%2F8dc2685d6f51ffd077b00bf8695be6bc.jpg&hash=923a399d30e850e01b993a6792bcae102be2ded4)

Quizas sea posible de cambiar eso. Si quieres podria tratar de batear unas lamparas...

Maybe it could be possible to change the boulevard. If you want i could try to help you out, batting some streetlights. Just i need to find out the HD-render.

All in all i really love your MD, and i'm really thankfull that you are showing the beauty of Berlin to the community! (P.S.: The Bauakademie is on its way to the SFBT-test-center, if you want, i can try to send you the modell, but nightlights are still missing)

saludos

Peter

mi " Under Den Linden "  :)

Me encantaria que me enviases el modelo de la " Bauakademie " no me importa que no tenga luces, seria feliz de tenerlo.

I would love to send me the model of "Bauakademie" I do not mind not having lights, it would be happy to have him.

Thanks for the photos of Berlin and the information.

The Staatsoper Unter den Linden is the main opera house in Berlin and one of the most
in Germany today. It is located on the boulevard Unter den Linden and hence its
current name, but throughout its history has had others. Commonly known
as "the Berlin State Opera."

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg63.imageshack.us%2Fimg63%2F6296%2Fstaatsoper2.jpg&hash=007b6cf435d2b50e174a0ae8bc55612dfa897ca7)

Frederick II commissioned the original building on the land it now occupies,
the architect Georg von Knobelsdorff Wenzeslaus and construction began in July
1741, was designed to be the first part of a "Forum Fredericianum."
Although it was not completely finished, the Opera of the Court (Hofoper)
was inaugurated on December 7, 1742 with a performance of the opera Cleopatra
and Cesare by Carl Heinrich Graun. This occasion marked the beginning of a happy and successful
cooperation, more than 250 years between the Staatsoper and the Staatskapelle Berlin, the orchestra
the state, whose origins date back to the sixteenth century.

In 1842, Gottfried Wilhelm Taubert instituted the tradition of regular
symphony concerts. That same year, Giacomo Meyerbeer succeeded Gaspare
Spontini as General Music Director. Felix Mendelssohn also conducted concerts
symphony for one year.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg197.imageshack.us%2Fimg197%2F9753%2F1933t.jpg&hash=f91987122eb3d9d33b215b6da06ba0c3993336df)

On August 18, 1843, the theater was destroyed by fire. Built a new
opera house according to plans by architect Carl Ferdinand Langhans in a very short time
The following winter was inaugurated with a performance of Meyerbeer's work,
Ein Feldlager in Schlesien.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg210.imageshack.us%2Fimg210%2F6627%2Fstaatsoper1.jpg&hash=bdf5195d6e5cdd2e0bc0297d149effc1281041a7)

In the Second World War the building was destroyed during the bombing of Berlin.

The second reconstruction took much longer. Since 1945, the opera company
acted in the Admiralspalast (today Metropoltheater). Since 1949, the company served as
Opera State of the GDR. He returned to his original home in 1955, after a long reconstruction
- Tion in a free interpretation of baroque forms. The reconstructed theater
Opera was opened again, with Wagner's opera Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg.

After the construction of the Berlin Wall in 1961, the theater was somewhat isolated, but
still had an extensive repertoire that included works by classical and romantic periods,
along with ballet and contemporary operas.

After reunification, the Opera returned to the operatic world. Important works
who had already been presented in earlier times were rediscovered and discussed their
new role within the framework of the "Berlin Dramaturgy." Baroque Opera in particular was the
center of attention, with Cleopatra e Cesare, Croesus, L'Opera serious and Griselda. These
works were presented by the Belgian director René Jacobs together with the Akademie für
Alte Musik Berlin and the Freiburger Barockorchester on original instruments. In the
1990, the opera was officially renamed "Staatsoper Unter den Linden" ..

• Sankt Hedwigs Kathedrale •

is a Roman Catholic cathedral on the Bebelplatz in Berlin, Germany. It is the
seat of the Archbishop of Berlin, Cardinal Georg Sterzinsky.

It was built in the 18th century as the first Catholic church in Prussia after
the Protestant Reformation by permission of King Frederick II. The intention of
Frederick was to offer the numerous Catholic immigrants that had arrived in Berlin,
especially those from Upper Silesia, a place of worship. The church was therefore
dedicated to the patron of Silesia and Brandenburg, Saint Hedwig of Andechs.
The building was designed by Georg Wenzeslaus von Knobelsdorff modeled after
the Pantheon in Rome and construction started in 1747, interrupted and delayed
several times due to economy measures. It was not until November 1, 1773 when
the king's friend, Ignacy Krasicki, then Bishop of Warmia (later Archbishop of Gniezno),
officiated at the cathedral's opening in 1773.

[ In the picture you can see the cathedral after the Second World War ]

After the Kristallnacht pogroms that took place over the night of 9 November - 10 November
1938, Bernhard Lichtenberg, a canon of the cathedral chapter of St Hedwig since 1931, prayed
publicly for Jews in the evening prayer following. Lichtenberg was later jailed by the Nazis and
died on the way to the concentration camp at Dachau. In 1965 Lichtenberg's remains were
transferred to the crypt at St. Hedwig's.

The cathedral burned out completely in 1943 during air raids on Berlin and was reconstructed
from 1952 up to 1963.

That looks promissing, kelis! Just the texture is maybe too repetitive. Why don't you just search in the LE, there are some really nice coblestone texture i think. All your proyect looks very interesting, even if as i am a german it brings up some ungood feelings ;). But in fact this gives a good thematical spectrum.
If you need some historical advise don't wait asking me.

Today you shall be witnesses to something very important to Onder Bolender, you will see the
evolution of a city through a series of images, it is the process of building that is today the building
highest of the city, the tower Bolender DSB

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg835.imageshack.us%2Fimg835%2F4559%2Fbloqueresidencial1.jpg&hash=e450fd3e0f6c4893f01a7081390b21f0eaf51bb1)

~ During the 60's the city experienced a state of lawlessness in which several architectural buildings
like this, a residential block situated in one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in the city rose
deleting the prestige of areas that formerly were conspicuous by their splendor and beauty.

~ This is one of those cases, it is a residential building built by a Russian architect a prestigious place
in the city, apart from its look awful this building annoys residents Onder Bolender for taking splendor
of one of the most recognized buildings in the city, theater Ruziektheater located right next to this building.

~ In 2008 it launched a project to demolish the residential block and build instead an elegant building that
would become the tallest building in the city. At the end of 2008 work began on this building, one and a half
later the new tower should be ready.

~ With its 124 meters high and its 36 plants, from today 18th of June 2010 Tower " DSB Bolender tower "
is the tallest building in Onder Bolender

~ In celebration of the inauguration of the building and have the title of tallest building city, nothing more to
the sun dropped an launched several fireworks from the roof of the building.

Nice update and the new tower is an improvement, but I could  imagine the city planners finding a design a little more exciting. This is quite a conservative building. :)

Wow ! Very nice here kelis, my friend. :)

I really did enjoy the way the update tells a short little story, and the consecutive pictures are showing out the story. A very effective way to update. (And of course, the finished product is wonderful ;) )
