A few pictures from my most developed city Port St Louis which sits at B2. It has 37670 inhabitants.
High above the city a mountain spring shoots into the air and forms a small lake.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2Fmountainspring.jpg&hash=042dd69879dd2b12166f250d8d86ab164eafa623)

The lake falls down the mountain via waterfalls to form another lake above the sea. Here a dam has been built to provide some of the power needs of the city.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2Fdam.jpg&hash=c87b5c1595490eb042e06ef2664187d979c8ee81)

Farms sit on the lower ground with a church standing above them at the heart of the old village.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2Ffarmsandchurch.jpg&hash=0dcabe064214e845af16c08317f9a4d79ac15173)

The first of the industries to move in was the Nick O'Laus toy Factory built by PegProd inc.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2Ftoyfactory.jpg&hash=13fd8bdbbd3f039820b6dd56badd00bb6af49a04)

More views later.

I like the houses in your village and the PEG Factory looks great.

You did a lot of leveling for the dams ... must have kept you busy for a while.

Love how you've transitioned the dam from the lake to the sea: great idea

Very nice pictures Barby, I like how you've made the dams. The last picture has a wonderful combination of slope friendly houses.

Here is an overview of Port St Louis.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FPortStLouis.jpg&hash=bb03e49e9952ddacf880b343a454c94dd572f082)

As you can see there are small pockets of development with the main denser population areas in the centre. This will be where the high rise appear in due course. One or two mid rise have already sprung up in this mixed commercial and residential district to one side of the main avenue.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2Fplaza.jpg&hash=255a954fa026d131e56655c3840ecb10675d1f0a)

Along the seashore more power has been provided from natural gas found in the bay. There is also a water pumping facility.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2Fpowerfromthesea.jpg&hash=320d825fbab14a8ca9ea9678212d6a71bd7eac38)

High above the main CBD a smaller commercial district has  appeared to service the small residential estate.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2Fuppercbd.jpg&hash=1d13e7dcfba4d0b85dbb25e8216048fb20f2a5f8)

Finally for this update, the renovated Winterton Theatre is close to the Toy Factory and the soon to be shown recreation trails in the natural beauty of the hills.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2Fwintertontheatre.jpg&hash=aa692a608bd3ddff6fcf350e7e40ddd38daa3936)

A word about the strange snow levels, I started out with a lower, lower snow mod by cycledogg for the Italia terrain. If you look to the cities either side of Port St louis you can see the result - very little without snow. I changed the mod but have not yet been back to all areas so there is a mix of the lower snow and the lower, lower snow mods in view.

Maybe I should have started with the first city I developed. It is called Le Depart and sits at D3. there are currently nearly 3 000 sims living in this mainly agricultural city.

An overview of the city
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FleDepart.jpg&hash=e70951d51872290215da468d2f643d1ea0476b75)

As you can see I have not done a great deal of terraforming or land reclamation from the sea.

There are a variety of types of farms. Some with the Mediterranean buildings by mickebear.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FLeDepart-FruitFarm.jpg&hash=d05bdbb980abdf837553736b2e374ecdd34a25f4)

Some by CSX:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FLeDepart-HogMushrooms.jpg&hash=967a63d987ebd3180c5f9aa5c5d1540c903bad99)

And some by simgoober. It seems that Melody's Melons are popular with the TMs.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FLeDepartMelodysMelons.jpg&hash=2c77f65fcfe5268ea8b98099a64c9c7bc0ce4f1d)

Here and there are pockets of low cost housing.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FLeDepart-lowcosthousing.jpg&hash=f73956c9ab4209780f90d1d1ae636d8eb22b1e97)

And also of higher wealth housing:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FrichhousesLeDepart.jpg&hash=4970f6b4d6567d5acf75cb048bc67bcf9d3806b9)

There are small commercial buildings among the residentials.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FLeDepart-PussyCleaners.jpg&hash=9f0b1c1364a77b6b2a58326bc140362f45b04750)

There is a small amount of industrial development along the coast line but it is still growing and has plenty of lots available.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FLeDepart-VandyShipping.jpg&hash=35d29bd6f8c406d302a44b926d4f029948a4262c)

My region has grown to nearly 80 000 population but still has a long way to go.
A few pictures from Alpes du Sud which sits at A3. This is a very mountainous city and I had to make some decisions about what and how. It has a population of about 5 000 and is mainly an agricultural area at the moments.

An overview
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FAlpesduSud.jpg&hash=39db6d55f4001638ad3aa26d36f7d5f373158dc8)

A small timber farm sitting below one of the main roads.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FAlpesDuSud-timberfarm.jpg&hash=785cd50033da9b53a10c69c953a9dfc91220f031)

CSX Wine Cellar - Baksberg built into a deep cutting in the rock to keep the wine cool.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FAlpesDuSud-baksberg.jpg&hash=957481e77189959811059b1c9f7a7d9e5de52184)

Why I dislike mountains &hlp

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FAlpesDuSud-steps.jpg&hash=3bf63dcaf5134a7c3fcb4b2209fb028834c02814)
As you can see the development here, which is in the northern section, does not work on a slope and there were many complaints about access. The mayor and regional council took the decision to allow some land flattening providing any trees cut down were replaced with new ones.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FAlpesDuSud-landflattened.jpg&hash=17f7b67c99860da2eda4e46b5e7c5e4797bcf7a5)

The newly terraced CBD.

More later.

Post by: Colyn on December 23, 2006, 12:52:49 AM
Good ... the small timberfarm is actually a Nature Conservatory ;) ... I have no problem with terraces as you used it in your CBD ... the Comm lots are mostly Slope Unfriendly and for good reason :)

With the snow mod I am using this city is useless for development.

A new city - Les Landes - which lies at D2. This former river silted up and left a flat area for development beneath the high mountains.

An overview of the city which now has 33K inhabitants. It is a mixed economy with farms and tourism in the area farthest from the coast, commercial and residential growth nearer the sea and industrial down by the port.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2Fleslandesoverview.jpg&hash=9a1e5dbc1e9313af8b013e13c19f466146b9f4ed)

Dalene set up home at the base of the eastern mountains close to the trails that lead up the mountain.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FLesLandes-dalene.jpg&hash=28a90604a26d45d4b5f749a8074f58193e5dbb2a)

Close by Jacky's Kabin opened to serve food, drink and conviviality to the visitors. Her place is so popular that she opened guest accommodation to cater for those who need an overnight stay. The Kabin is surrounded by hot springs - very popular for the morning after a serious banana throwing evening. :D

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FLesLandes-Jackysandguesthouses.jpg&hash=3b228308b6574066ea97e3a9adb69f7a11297366)

Also at this end of the valley is the old Summerton Mill renovated by callagrafx and Scottie's Kabin - a place for secluded pleasure.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FLesLandes-millandscotties.jpg&hash=876ee941ad30eef6f11def2d8f1e29802e7c122c)

Les Landes is such a popular spot that even the rich move into the farming area.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FLesLandes-swimdm.jpg&hash=9219f2baaad138f41034f827eb4f9ffff7bee03d)

In the summer cricket matches are played opposite The Foxhunters' Arms.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FLesLandes-cricketmatch.jpg&hash=e4129d93de8a245a7258081879e46e10499f8570)

But in the winter the hunt comes out to play:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FLesLandes-foxhunt.jpg&hash=1e2d3c534a5e490353aa8531e1e51f186e64b546)

One of the most popular spots in Les Landes is the Codberry Sisters' Chocolate Factory.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FLesLandes-codberrys.jpg&hash=ee2a921ec355ccadbbe67684f401b508f5db09a7)

Eventually the city attracted the attention of Sir Gulpington Liversmasher who was allowed to carve out some land for his mansion on condition he replaced any trees.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FLesLandes-Broadlandshigh.jpg&hash=a9ce0b7ac58ef2bda90e7ffd9093a5800e3251e3)

Well with such a beautiful enormous gift this morning from debussyman I just had to try and earn the reward in the only city big enough for it. Unfortunately on this map there are few places to put my "palace" so some intense ground preparation had to be done and the trees replanted.
The region now has a population of 139K+ and Port St Louis has 64K+. Here is a distant view of the palace:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FPortStLouis-BarbyPalacehigh.jpg&hash=cc2564670303dbe59722bf9cf0d9854449631bc4)

As you can see it sits high above the city centre on a steep escarpment to keep out any marauding Singes Tapants.

A closer view of the whole two lots:

Indeed you do, Sebes.  ;D
I was having a severe traffic problem in St Louis with all the commuters going to Port St Louis so I decided to have a rethink. The council and I decided to relocate the current sims and build a motorway from Port St Louis. Once this was done and some transit hubs introduced the area was rezoned for a mix of residential and commercial.

Soon the area was crammed with high rise homes and businesses and at night it looked spectacular.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FStLouis-bottomnight.jpg&hash=5ad38997363d01f5965f3aad88c096ef9a11db0c)

The central area was also zoned again with high density zoning and again the city population increased dramatically. In this picture you can see the central avenue as it transitions to the highway with transit hubs from deadwoods. There are also a number of car dealers in the area, a Sim Swim Arena and Museum from simgoober and a temple complex from CSX.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FStLouis-centralcity.jpg&hash=a48968f2a6ace61c1a1e3dd1745c41e963d7ed35)

The council decided to provide a sunken plaza complex that went underneath the highway.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FStLouis-sunkenplaza.jpg&hash=46905c2050a798f867bd008677d67218ad08854b)

Despite all the high rises there are some quiet corners of St Louis. This holds the homes of Dalene, Cindy and Mike as well as some private homes clinging to the hillside. Cindy's home is particularly popular due to the proximity of the hot springs.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FStLouis-quietcorner.jpg&hash=7d9a33b84fcdc3afed4293df0a94a855539856fc)

At the other side of the city the rich built their homes surrounded by trees.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FStLouis-countryliving.jpg&hash=e70e15a18359e23b0780166c797e1ffdd5551bc7)

One of the aristocrats had turned his home into a centre for artists.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FStLouis-Matisse.jpg&hash=90dfecdabebb1816ff5f08c4a2140d8663aa936d)

Unfortunately there are always criminals about the place but the police helicopter is on the scene quickly and arrests are made shortly afterwards.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FStLouis-burglary.jpg&hash=c98bc7f210e409704377ad1d99304b95a14b3630)

St Louis now has a population of over 120K and the region has grown to 250K. The mayors of the other cities are not intending to allow development of this type in any of the other cities. Well that is what they say ::)

Just a short update as a I had some rare lots grow yesterday.
First is an rp2005 building - The Turkey Mill Apartments, a converted former texxtile mill that now houses the higher earners of the city.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FStLouis-turkeymill.jpg&hash=4d4a17814546e9ccc07a6c2ddd883a88ee87101e)

One of my favourite ripptide BATs - the exquisite Palacio Cristalino and pool. This is from the BATter who was criticised for poor textures by Glenni. &mmm

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FStLouis-parks.jpg&hash=eaa3e6ff13f6ccacda49e99bda99e97847485720)

Now to the industrial area. I often have the CSX Mega Industrials grow but not this one too often:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FStLouis-weldingworx.jpg&hash=25c7f557b9caafadbef575967ed35e7eb5444cc7)

And finally I was overjoyed to see this grow as I made it a year ago and have never seen it before. It is now on the LEX here ;D

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FStLouis-InktopiaPaintSupplies.jpg&hash=02184348c0e1064a336d97c964e7705d49d78ce4)

I have more pictures but haven't processed them yet. I apologise for the lack of story line but I cannot compete with Mattb and Colyn.

Storyline shmoryline. With pictures this good you don't need a storyline :D

The detail you build into your cities is wonderful.
And I have to agree, the Palacio Cristalino and pool is very nice.
I'm looking forward to more!

Aw, who needs a storyline.  A lot of CJs (or should I say, Mayor's Diaries) work pretty well without any sort of storyline.  I think I speak for more than just myself when I give some encouragement to show pics and let any story take care of itself.

Really great work, barby!

Errr, don't tell anyone, but my story line comes from the smoking monkeys I keep chained in the family room  ::) They're cheap and as a bonus 1 in 100 pages of what they type actually makes sense :D

Seriously, great pics, and the park area with the Church and the theatre looks fantastic

Another update from me. The region now has 388057 resdential population, 211935 commercial and 66069 industrial. An overview of the whole region.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FShosaloza-1.jpg&hash=e83ec2a3b1624386d1e3e3a73ff73ff2725b5ad2)

Among the industrials that have grown is Domino's Sugar. This takes the extra sugar not required for rum production.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FStLouis-dominosgrow.jpg&hash=62ac532ffdbf8216113613726d5ff28411d9607e)

St Louis also has its Pantsdowne across the road from the Ezy-Flo factory which is very handy.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FStLouis-pantsdowne.jpg&hash=edfe808923ea3b268d7d69b2a64ce28aebba641c)

Although there is a high proportion of high rise buildings the mayor insists on there being plenty of parks and plazas to keep the city beautiful. This one sits in the heart of the CBD.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FStLouis-parkinthecbd.jpg&hash=2cf42eb3fc3fcd96e8808c125343110f8d15594d)

And has a statue dedicated to the victory of the sharp shooters over the Terrycan Moochees in a nearby region.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FStLouis-victory.jpg&hash=5b9c874c652049411f83af7c1134460fc075221e)

There are many hidden gems in this city. This one sits among the trees and is one of my favourite of all BATs done by caliban - the Duke Chapel.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FStLouis-dukes.jpg&hash=d21660ca9b092bd836554c3187fed8ef5965449f)

Next update will be from Les Landes.

I returned to Le Depart, D3, which now has a population of 13k. What none of us realised was that there were two sides to Le Depart. The original residents were surprised to find a thriving second part to their city on land reclaimed from the sea.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FLeDepart-twosides.jpg&hash=e90d856e06e458b22a894f70ed8661c39c77cc4a)

As you can see the left side clings precariously to the hills with farms in the valley but to the right the newly discovered section has a beautiful waterfront and even an airport on this just above sea level land.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FLeDepart-waterfrontsfromafar.jpg&hash=6c259d717fd7aa07c1b86ff65651dddd224624b4)

The CSX company had built one part of the waterfront with restaurants and other ameneties.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FLeDepart-newWFK.jpg&hash=3b07abcdc296216401da8c34b90c78cc727ff163)

A very lively community by night.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FLeDepart-waterfrontatnight.jpg&hash=ee999604f92c2034a65fad9540c07b5ddd910374)

Near the airport - built by the ripptide corporation - are many food, drink and fun outlets to tempt the arriving visitors.

The Tea Gardens

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FLeDepart-teagarden.jpg&hash=0473697b392fd7966912c3caa0f64c9dc1506a1e)

The Randy Squid, Wriggle and Squirt and Malibu Night Club. Many visitors fly in and never get any further than this ;D

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FLeDepart-randysquid.jpg&hash=62414b25b9ac3b13f89e85583a58fe273956130d)

Further along the coast there are areas of reef and rocks. The locals often leave their boats on the shore.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FLeDepart-rocksnboats.jpg&hash=ee61d9d0ce98e3c00ca0125b3a56a5a616b863b6)

The ripptide corporation developed the rest of the area with a promenade, large hotel and marina. Along the waterfront there are parking places, different attractions and a ferry to take passengers to work in nearby cities.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FLeDepart-holidayarea.jpg&hash=1108040354443e26ef1965e4323e914853f8a0e9)

The small commercial areas developed with small hotels, mini golf and offices.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FLeDepart-mixedcommercials.jpg&hash=8dbc635a1556c87d8d2a0ea6479c65bef22e5c12)

The clientele at the guesthouses are happy to have the bandstand opposite as there is no music allowed at night.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FLeDepart-guesthouses.jpg&hash=2175de77573891d1628c02dafb61c72f9f6cc858)

Being of military interest, ripptide built his hotel next to the old Murney Tower that had been the first defence in earlier times. Built to keep the community safe from the invading buccaneers from Lac au Montagne it is now a peaceful park.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FLeDepart-Murneypark.jpg&hash=fc88b470a2758bbaa7aff3f4bc379533e3fa30a6)

And finally, the Royal Yacht Marina, an extremely up market place for the rich and famous.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FLeDepart-marina.jpg&hash=42182d805a02df26fe539a856f99e4c5fc9a3dc1)

A few pics from my big city, now nearly 300k population.

Another rarely grown lot the Casa degli Allori a CS$$$ lot with a building by sw121 made for the 2004 Oktoberfest. It still seems as fresh as it did then although one day I may revisit the lotting.

SMART cars are very popular in St Louis and the local dealer has a wide selection of colours and styles.

The big factory for the production of Terrycan Moochee Propellant for the hunters of other cities.

Finally when it all gets too much the Fukitol Pharms facility grows and harvests the little capsules that make your day.

Great update Barby.

I have not visited you playing the....... for some days and I see a lot of updates. And you complain that you cannot keep up......wow talk of understatements!

I love the idea of 2 communities growing on the same map independantly from one another. Very nice. Do not forget about your target of 1.000.000.

A newly developed city - Alpes Midi situated at A2. The mayors of St Louis and Port St Louis were besides themselves with worry as they were rapidly running out of space as you can see from the satellite view. They petitioned the mayor of Alpes Midi and also Vallee Cachee for space to expand. The mayor of Vallee Cachee was reluctant but the mayor of Alpes Midi agreed instantly. The city was zoned for maximum growth as soon as the mayor could do so. He was enticed by the big money offered by the developers.

Here is an up to date overview of the region. As you can there is little room to grow in the valley that leads to the sea.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FShosaloza_thumb.jpg&hash=48a0003917311846496391eb73248b972a854ec3)

An interesting experiment was the use of underground living instead of high rise but it failed as the structure damaged the mid rise buildings around it.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2Ftroglodyteliving.jpg&hash=0ab7400a89e06e0a0169e09afe1ae64805434ad9)

Along the edge of the industrial zone rowhouses shielded the upper class homes from the industry.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2Frowandposhhouses.jpg&hash=6ba33dfd4f8634d17e3089f77ab03ae20c47ed94)

Later demand rose and the rowhouses were demolished to make room for some tower blocks.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2Frowstohirise.jpg&hash=4f15fefab5c48c5ea2d6d9168e093c879d015d7e)

The developers were keen to establish their own styles and as they fought over the land the area showed a very eclectic mix.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2Fapartmentmix.jpg&hash=14e8fcf988f5f0b465ffe1f8d671cd977316057a)

The commercial district grew enormously and as there was no room to spread out they built up and up and up...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2Fcbdday.jpg&hash=deaeefac6b12b77222bde8d648a1287409c86c6b)

But it looks very attractive by night.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2Fcbdnight.jpg&hash=7e27957c49f5152a1484e1d8f9c8acabe75a075f)

The businesses demanded an airport but the amount of space available was not suitable for a standard one. SG built his heliport here so the customers could be ferried in and out to a main airport.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2Fheliport.jpg&hash=04bab0589b026df97beb8d56a55ec4522bf1153d)

More later.

Second episode before I forget which pictures I have shown. %confuso

The education hub is set around the Kapodistrian University built by swi21.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2Feducationhub.jpg&hash=7e9dd386dadd7836f9912ce4ac2edde93f6c8d64)

This is just above the old city centre with its beautiful old buildings.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2Foldcitycentre.jpg&hash=93195d29e617e4f171aebc02b61f4b7facfb3386)

Also it is close to the Chateau de Sceaux and the Villa Bellrive, also built by swi21.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2Fsceauxandbellerive.jpg&hash=2103962805919270043b1be082f368ac1590de09)

There were many objections to the continued heavy zoning and when D66 built her Dude Ranch it was well received by the rich guys who wanted to play at being cowboys. Luxury accommodation and easy rides for the pampered rich.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2Fduderanch.jpg&hash=d954d82d060efa60b7e129a4d831c1e6899c37e0)

This end of the valley is dominated by tourist spots and accommodation.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2Fcampground.jpg&hash=8060369e6579f36c39187924578648c12899a377)

Stables for proper horsemen and women have been built.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2Fstables.jpg&hash=0f5cff791d655b1805d58388c309596074c7e66e)

And Jacky has built a branch of her Kabin franchise.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2Fjackys.jpg&hash=61da693dc67c16adac09bda6ff9f0a9ef28756fb)

The pic in the first post with the SG Prentiss Buildings looks pretty cool 3 of them in an almost square there.  Just needed the 4th corner with one and it would have looked like a "huge" Prentiss Complex building.

Well rumour has that when it was built the contractor discovered ancient bones as they dug foundations ... then instead of reporting it ... the nightshift encased it in the shutering of one of the foundation piles.

Now every year on the 30th day of the Second month a strange and eerie sound whales through the city ... shortly after that then the Sims stop using the facility for one year ...  &cry2

Nice ... thanks for this post ... I should do something like this too ... so at this moment it would appear that you have the biggest population ...

How is the general LAG on your machine ... I am at 650k and LAG is becoming a disturbing issue now for me.
Title: Re: Barby plays Shosaloza
Post by: wouanagaine on January 18, 2007, 11:30:52 PM
Nice pop :)

Colyn, are you implying that the regional pop play a role in LAG ? I always thought it was only the city population played that influence the LAG

To be sure, do you have lag on an unbuilt city in your region ?
Title: Re: Barby plays Shosaloza
Post by: Colyn on January 19, 2007, 12:24:47 AM
I will check that specifically.
Title: Re: Barby plays Shosaloza
Post by: BarbyW on January 19, 2007, 12:27:35 AM
I will check that too but I suspect that it is to do with the amount of trees planted as I noticed graphic lag in a virtually undeveloped city that was thick forest. I will check a couple of undeveloped cities to day both with and without trees.

Edit: I had virtually no lag in two undeveloped cities until I planted god mode trees. The thicker they were the more graphic "stuttering" I noticed. I'll do some more checking later.

Those stables look great!
You even plopped the Maxis churches....wow that is not seen often anymore.
Pity no pic of the mill next to jacky's Cabin.

What are those bluish commercial towers in one of the commercial districts. t looks like something from Arabian Nights.

Keep on going.

The blueish towers are one of the Shalloya ones from cerulean - an oldie but still goldie in my book. I have all cerulean's high rises and they still look fresh after over 2 years.

I was bored with the big cities so ambled off into the hills. Les Doigts is situated at C4 and is just developing so there isn't a lot to see yet. It has a population just over 2K - which has brought my regional population to 700K.

View of the whole city:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2Flesdoigts.jpg&hash=d09945e13127c555f058e333b0487b6da28a707a)

To the top of the picture you can see the farming area. A mix of farms  and some that need making slope friendly.

An interesting juxtaposition with the TM banana farm grown next to SG's Fukitol farm. ;D

In one of the valleys between the fingers a small industrial area has been developed:

And next to this waterfront CSX developed a waterfront full of fun.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FLesDoigts-csxwfk.jpg&hash=b37d0dd43f37ef0283e15f33508b21d7ee020f28)

The waterfront development did not pollute the water and the whales still come close to shore.

Nice water front Barby, the whales seem to like them too. I haven't seen many that close to development.

The industrial area seems to have some interesting buildings too.

I also like how you have your farm fields interweaving with each other.

Great update.

Very nice.
Love the whale. I guess that is one of the most popular things Maxis made in this game.

That small industrial area is your own design with use of DW and SG lots?
Nice.

The waterfront is very nice and very....tropical.

The small industrial area uses the 8x8 CSX Mega lots from the STEX. I wish someone would make some more as they get a bit repetitive sometimes.

See the first post on this page for why there are no trees yet. This is one of the cities I am working in without trees for the time being. I am trying to find out the effect of god mode trees on my system.
More pics later.

Return to Alpes Midi. If you remember this city had turned into a high rise jungle in the vallye below the mountains but there is another side to the city too.

High above the hustle and bustle of the city the hot springs and other springs are the start of some spectacular waterfalls. On the lake of one that has hot springs CSX has built the Randy Trout hunting lodge that is only accessible by seaplane. The journey is fantastic but the landing scary.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FAlpesMidi-fallsstart.jpg&hash=215359e6aed406042cdadc05796edb90450b3e27)

As the water gushes down the mountain there are rapids and great waterfalls.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FAlpesMidi-fallslower.jpg&hash=08ebbaa4f6c38a2c00f3549cf77a31e36da41fd0)

There are hot springs on this side too and occasionally you can catch the skinny dippers in them.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FAlpesMidi-hotSprings.jpg&hash=9683f37d95ef92a9ea5191bd5f14b244a08680c8)

There are tunnels in the mountains too.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FAlpesMidi-tunnelentrance.jpg&hash=37c90005741e85da275305854cf18a60bfea63da)

Along the side of another lake that ends dramatically are hunters' cabins and an observation tower.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FAlpesMidi-hunterscabins.jpg&hash=a08130a1972a13d59fcbe84221b5569b6e666ec2)

Looking at the lake from afar it seems impossible that there isn't another water fall but the rock here is very porous and the lake has never yet overflowed.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FAlpesMidi-highcamp.jpg&hash=7a9ae16e5346f346f25861c5c0c7b0bee43546b1)

The only access to the cabin area is from the north through the very top of the mountain. There is a railway station and a small commercial area by the station. Travellers have a good choice of accomodation and food with D66's Baker Sisters' Bagel Bakery, Cal's Old Coach House and BLS Guesthouses.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FAlpesMidi-hotelsandcafes-1.jpg&hash=3e885215123b23c0cb1c2732a99374c20c53e7e3)

At the end of the rail line is a small general store and parking place with mountain trails for the fit outdoor types.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FAlpesMidi-generalstore.jpg&hash=e8d4089a5abbf0377571ba7292dc98016d3ac9bf)

From the car park you can hire horses.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FAlpesMidi-mountiantrailhead.jpg&hash=db1e601e6cc9b846741f2af82218c7f2fc6c3ff1)

Porous rock or not I think I will stay clear of the campingsite below the lake, allthough should not be a big problem as I don't go camping anymore :D, a long story including a hungry bear among other artefacts. :D

Again an imaginative update with the very steep terrain.

Oh, ye of little faith. I will now show you why the lake above Scottie's will never overflow and flood the land below. First the faithful climb the trail from the city below.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FAlpesMidi-trailuptotemple.jpg&hash=7f67796335c1339537d341ec6eafba4c4547e617)

Then they face the swing bridge that swings and sways above the falls.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FAlpesMidi-STEXGoddess.jpg&hash=886ccd6198e60a1f36ee005f37567ce6e9210dc7)

Finally they arrive at the Temple of the STEX Goddess who protects lots from all dangers.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FAlpesMidi-closuptemple.jpg&hash=1fec4e7a957d6d008dc7783464242ed7b5424d91)

Sam, that is just the default snow line in the Italia terrain mod. I tried it with both Peg and Swamper's snow mods and it didn't make much difference. I was trying to get rid of the awful blockiness of the trails but it didn't work. I shall try Deadwoods trails in the next city.

Very nice work you did with this area. The little town is very nice. Did yu plop the buildings or did they grow (lot of bulldozing I guess?).

@Nik-nik - I only plop civic buildings etc and only bulldoze when absolutely neccessary. The areas I show are generally grown.

Some pics of Les Terraces which sits at B3 and has a current population of nearly 40k. As you can see it is not an easy area to develop:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2Flesterrasses.jpg&hash=02df2457d8253d31b50b31e94e39011b7031ba5b)

The terraces have been flattened out to build on with high rise residential and commercial buildings crammed onto them.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FLesTerrasses-rightofcity.jpg&hash=bc6106a28023cf617c1069d01fa4e92baa589e7f)

Not wanting to spare the space for an airport the city constructed a seaplane base for air travel into and out of the city.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FLesTerrasses-seaplanebase.jpg&hash=4713c51d377fa3fdbc4d9b8ba2f1d1751ce1e885)

Close to the seaplane base small commercial guesthouses and eating places have been built including a Big Pecker and D66 Aristocat Inn.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FLesTerrasses-aristocat.jpg&hash=6b458898a7ff1637c135a1073c0a1d23fb358e8d)

Looking across the bay there is a small harbour and ferry for ease of access to Port St Louis

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FLesTerrasses-oveview.jpg&hash=dd2761f50d85ecf1ffee3b4463d38e6448f14480)

The harbour is old and built of stone. No one knows if the rumours of previous inhabitants is true but callagrafx is certain there were and he maintains this area carefully. Some small commercials have been built to supply the needs of the passing travellers and tourists.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FLesTerrasses-harbourend.jpg&hash=2d4af4c8e39c18e26c5ad657a605f01e67916e39)

The ferry terminal is very busy and the fishing port next to it thrives on the traffic going past.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FLesTerrasses-wharfandferry.jpg&hash=8670e53fbb9ac42e8ca7a824ea54cc1f10536ce7)

Clinging to the hillside behind the ferry the residents work locally or travel by ferry.

Nice pop :)

Colyn, are you implying that the regional pop play a role in LAG ? I always thought it was only the city population played that influence the LAG

To be sure, do you have lag on an unbuilt city in your region ?

hmm i was also thinking about this issue and find that if you have a large region with many sims commuting between tiles that it would make sense that all the commuters between cities would lag out a well connected region.

What i am say as if you have two med tile cities next to each other each 100,000 pop, it will probably lag more if they are connected and have sims traveling between them.

A new city - another one. This one is called Vallee and sits at C1. It is a high valley with a similar topography to Alpes Midi but no so much flat land.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FVallee.jpg&hash=a938d1cad7b0c13b07ef8cfe3ff3ee8d3ee139c0)

As you can see there is little development yet despite having a population of over 20k. the mayor took the decision to allow high density building on any available suitable land but not to allow wholesale flattening.

The city started as a cluster of growth in the valley nearest to St Louis. Interestingly the farms arrived after the first commercial and industrial growth.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FVallee-farmsandstart.jpg&hash=1f33219647da462662bb26403ef6de7891f4388d)

At night the gshmails' water plant shines brightly next to the Serkanner Power Plant.

At the opposite side to the farms the first industrial area grew.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FVallee-firstindustrials.jpg&hash=bb47d51d23437a19f23bdeb279c58a408c0e6bc7)

Moving further up and along the valley, JB Simio placed his post office opposite my statue and next door to the Benevolent Asylum so the pensioners didn't have far to go to collect their cash.

The old markets were joined by an Ikea built by gascooker - come back all is forgiven.

Further away in the hills are a cluster of very attractive properties:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FVallee-dalenecottages.jpg&hash=f9516d390e90a819d8be7333950b093eefca8ed8)

We shall have to see how this city develops as it is one fo the few lest that have potential for high growth. Shosaloza currently has just over 800k inahabitants and getting to 1 million will not be easy now.

Before continuing any of the other cities I thought I would have a look at C2 which is the most difficult of all the city tiles. It is the central high mountain and has very little scope for development without major surgery:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FLaMontagne.jpg&hash=2fae8bcfd8eed4a29133bdf9af1d13f36d1612e8)

The region now has a total population of 815+K and it is going to be difficult to see where another nearly 200k could fit in. However, I digress.

La Montagne has grown up on the slopes below the snow line. It is mainly residential but with some commerce to serve the tourist trade.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FLaMontagne-housing.jpg&hash=e6e1df0e5a906c3f8bf8f71b24e2f84f925bfb6b)

There are hotels close to the ski lift.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FLaMontagne-hotels.jpg&hash=ec4559dd7c94d3e35e496b2136b415c4b6f7d079)

And close to the other tourist attractions:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FLaMontagne-touristaccom.jpg&hash=af33ca9b858c2ce250478bdb9a521f6533de19c0)

There is a toy factory with a shop for the children:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FLaMontagne-toyfactory.jpg&hash=d919dbbe650081d50774f0c7e633e6655258ad58)

And a winter wonderland village for them too.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FLaMontagne-xmasvillage.jpg&hash=633932d9302d34ff31949e7133c6e47fb51116e0)

The main attractions for the adults, however, is climbing and skiiing.

The ski lift is always busy.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FLaMontagne-skilift.jpg&hash=3fb6ec2398adb99eb831e4aec9a1b010eea10058)

And high in the hills the trails up to the climbs are lined with huts to stay in.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2FLaMontagne-skiandclimb.jpg&hash=f3c9d8062248a11c873aa284cde40bfd2b5af86e)

Currently the city has 1500 inhabitants but workers in the commercial district come from nearby cities. The Mayor is considering adding a rail link to increase accesibility.

Really nice work Barbie. I'm going to take this chance and besides asking you where did you get that ski lift, also ask you or any other BSC member if this is doable:

For some time now, I am planning to get some props/lots done for a snow resort. I've found a few nice models and have adapt them to the BAT/Gmax

Ski Chair 1x1 (http://rayden.zftp.com/sc4/ski_chair1x1.jpg)
Ski Chair 1x4 (http://rayden.zftp.com/sc4/ski_chair1x4.jpg)
Ski Chair 1x4 (http://rayden.zftp.com/sc4/ski_chair1x4_2.jpg)
Ski Gondola (http://rayden.zftp.com/sc4/ski_gondola.jpg)
Ski Gondola (http://rayden.zftp.com/sc4/ski_gondola2.jpg)

But, as I still can't bat properly, I need some of you nice batters to do some of the buildings to which those chairs connect to, like the ones on the link bellow.

LA CHAUX EXPRESS (http://www.televerbier.ch/index.cfm?dsp_pagebody=chauxexpress&dsp_pagetop=televerbier&dsp_image=televerbier)

Can it be done?

If anyone would be up to this project, I would gladly send them those models and others if necessary (have hundreds of them), vehicles, houses, buildings, towers, bridges, warehouses, etc.

A little word of explanation here, I think. I HATE mountainous areas so was horrified by this map. ;D I tried my best not to do too much flatteneing but SC4 constraints mean that some has to be done. I took the easy route by limiting the major development to four city tiles: A2; B1; B2; and C1. These were the most obvious valleys and would take some basic terra forming without totally destroying the mountains.
For power I used the CSX Wave Generator and Natural Gas Cookery where there was a shore line and inland I tended to use Serkanner's Warehouse power plant as it fits well into rural developments. For water I use gshmail's large and small water plants as I have done since he made them. Similarly for garbage I use the two gshmails facilities or the CSX Rural or Urban Waste disposal for inland areas and Peg's Garbage Dock for shorelines.
If I was continuing with this region I would spend a lot more time on the mountain sides. There are many ways to beautify a city and interesting uses of trail parks - both Peg's and Deadwoods' - can make a difference. I may return to the region eventually but for now have other things to do.

Here is the latest region shot where you can clearly see the main development areas:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza_thumb.jpg&hash=e789ec8f9da1b33e39bcd9a2f1266ddf0e12ffef)

The region population is 1003294 with the majority employed in the commercial sector.

Some individual city tiles:

A1 - small population of 1323 most of whom commute by road and rail to B1. I used some new slope friendly x5 residential lots here to take advantage of the hillsides plus the 1x1 CSX stations.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2Fa1.jpg&hash=6310d11ddfebd1f3ed3d7954c1f64c53c5c28862)

A2: one of the main connurbations with a population of 187809. I showed plenty of images of this city ;D but there is still room to develop.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2Fa2.jpg&hash=9a9d3cddd7183cc1d3f2bce81539d9a9b10dc758)

A3: one of the smaller cities with a population of 8130. This was one where I made mistakes and did too much flattening in one part. I wasn't happy with the result so have left this tile alone.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2Fa3.jpg&hash=84435f6d1b76a9f52582edf278c53034dd62e8ab)

And finally for today, A4: another city that I started early and wasn't really happy with. It has a population of 18550 with most employed in the industrial sector.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2Fa4.jpg&hash=6471dba8c6c73ade5c146342e1f1790e25509a59)

The B cities today. This is where the highest density cities are as the main two follow the valley that runs north - south.

B1 - a population of 284628. The land in between the mountains was flattened but little additional land was made from the mountains.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2Fb1.jpg&hash=99124f1566f6faf430822a94b0d0a0733796cfa9)

B2 - the second largest population. This port city has 191826 population. It has a port, ferry and a hydro dam to provide power. Some land was grabbed from the mountains and a large area flattened - well I had to have my beautiful palace after receiving such a wonderful birthday present ;D

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2Fb2.jpg&hash=98d19480a442cfb8aa279719e845656676b7dba6)

B3 - A population of 53098. The land was terraced from the mountains and some was reclaimed from the sea. Another city that I have shown images of recently.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2Fb3.jpg&hash=93913fcb4020366ee4d087c6e8414c09d702d6d7)

And finally B4 - a small city with only 705 inhabitants. This has had little development and is mainly agriculture.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2Fb4.jpg&hash=d7da0efd4e6e0fe31d26481ae7e745d3a927010c)

C cities today.

This is one of the more difficult sections as it has the high mountain as one tile and a wide section of water in another.

C1: has the second greatest populations with 216444. It has a central valley area so that was flattened and slightly enlarged.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2Fc1.jpg&hash=e0f6bc2afc9844f7eb557ed443e94dc8f0bfc3a0)

C2: the mountain. ::) It has a population of 1533 serving the ski resort. ;D

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2Fc2.jpg&hash=6178e2dc523ea355ea967ae7286cc8f96de729e3)

C3: the wide water tile. This has a population of 6060 mainly in x5 slope friendly housing. There is a port and industrial area on a small section of reclaimed land. Across the bridge some housing clings to the hillside along the coast road and the mayor and the Playboy chief have their seafront villas and a small holiday area. I'll get some screenies of that for you later.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2Fc3.jpg&hash=e06538a78b39e23414f1b69395cee52c5e5f9752)

Finally C4: another small population tile with 2210 mainly in the agricultural sector.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2Fc4.jpg&hash=1eb8a684331d2c7c170a575489078e71c6d789f5)

Final set of city overviews - the D set:

D1 - a small population of 2148 mostly commercial but travelling to D2

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2Fd1.jpg&hash=160d36c884dc83905c34d0770baa8484e3837d4f)

D2: a city with 15819 population clustered mainly in the valley with a port, ferry and dockside garbage removal.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2Fd2.jpg&hash=6e7b85842e8b8be5eb230146b0378d7056fc1999)

D3: A difficult city as it has a narrow valley and little flat land. This has a population of 13011

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy171%2Fbarbyw%2FShosaloza%2Fd3.jpg&hash=f3d2c70b53787cb8892fc543313118b584aa4a91)

D4: totally undeveloped ;D

I love the work on the D regions. they look the most untouched of all. Especially D2 (yeah and D4 of course, duh!).

I would love tos ee more development on the ski resort area. There have not been so many CJ's or MD's (which I should call them from now on) showing ski areas.

Great work.
