Title: overriding game textures
Post by: Toichus Maximus on February 17, 2010, 03:58:37 PM
so, i'm trying to override some lot textures with ilives. Right now, i have one simple mod that was made for me a while back, so i cloned the files in reader, and edited the instances so the are 0,1,2,3 and 4 in the hexi i want to override (i'm overriding . My question is (since this didn't do anything in game)--what do i need to edit in the type and group columns? Or do I need to split to a completely different .dat? Any advice would be great.

Hmmm, I'm not exactly sure what you are trying to do, but you should just make the IID's of the textures the same as the ones you are overriding and make sure it's in you're plugins folder.  You should try this with and empty folder first to make sure it works, in case another user has done a similar trick and it's loading after yours.

Also, I'm not sure what you mean when you say should it be in a different DAT.  The new textures should definitely be in a different DAT to the ones you are trying to override, but don't have to be in a DAT of their own.  They just have to load last after the originals.

Lets see if this helps...

I changed the TGI (the top set was the original set i had) to correspond with the right texture and zooms and such. What else do I need to do? I assume group and type need to be changed as well... but I have no idea what.

As far as what i'm trying to do, i'm just trying to retexture lots in large groups via a  mod as opposed to going in and changing the textures in each lot.

As long as the TGI of the textures match the TGI of the original one it should work.  Just make sure it loads last.

yeah, it's definitely loading last but its not changing anything. I feel like i'm missing something in the TGI part. The instance isn't the only thing I need to change, right? Where would I find the Type and Group hexis that i need to change or are they irrelevant?

ahhh, hang on, it might be because it's a wealth dependant texture.  Maybe if you post the IID of the texture you want to replace that might help.

The Type and Group are the same for all lot textures and the group is different for transit textures I believe.
