Title: Haiti
Post by: mrbisonm on February 23, 2010, 08:58:26 PM
I was wondering, did anyone ever make a Haitian map, most likely like the city of Port-au-Prince and especially now that it needs to be rebuild? That could be interesting.......Let's help them rebuild this beautiful Bay city.

Search my name on the LEX, you'll find the Port-au-Prince map I made last year.

Thanks Blade, I saw it before, but it is only half of the Port-au-Prince Bay, maybe a reduced one that contains the whole bay with the city.......anyways, it was just a suggestion. ;)

Whoohoo.....If it is only for me, don't bother, I thought about this since I saw the devastation in Haiti and saw a possible new challenge for many of us to rebuild the whole region, maybe even an interesting MD/Cj coming out of it.
The map should take the whole area though, including the water in the Bay and most of the city, even if it is reduced in size.

If it is possible and easy enough to do so for you, then I won't stop you.... ;) Thanks

Not a problem.  I'll be back later in the day to post some pics of the area and discuss map size.

Ok, here's the area I cropped from the DEM data to map.  The map at full size is 9x6 large tiles in area, or 36km x 24km and it covers all of Port-au-Prince and some of it's surrounding communities.

Sure.  I can do that.  Is the map size ok though?

Ok, just cropped your specified area you requested and the new map size is 9x8 large tiles or 36km x 32km.  I could trim some of the northern and southern portions of the map and cut off some of the mountains if you want it a bit smaller. :)

If you trim don't take away too much, I like mountains and hills and put some roads and little settlements in between. ;) Looking good.

How is this?  No trimming on this one.

Ok, I'll begin rendering it tomorrow.  Decided to render the Vancouver map ahead of everything else, so I figured I can do the same for this request.

I was bored yesterday and making the Port-au-Prince and Vancouver maps killed some time and made the day/night go by a little faster. ;D

That looks great and surely will be fun "rebuilding" a city on it. Great and thanks.

For the past several days I have not been able to do much while online because my mouse is broken.  It double, triple, quadruple clicks every time I click on a link or what-not.  It's going to be at least a couple to 3 weeks before I can replace it, so until then, I can't upload anything.  As soon as I can replace my broken mouse, I'll be releasing the Port-au-Prince map.  Sorry for the delay. &mmm

Don't worry, I am not an anxious or impatient character, take all the time you need and good luck with your mouse....;)
