Title: Windows Query
Post by: thingfishs on March 03, 2010, 07:11:38 AM
Hi there,
I'm still relatively new to the windows OS (I'm a long time mac user). I have a windows setup now exclusively for SC4, but still am lost with some bits and pieces. My problem at the moment is when SC4 is running there are sporadically persistent bouts of the noise that's made if a flash drive is disconnected (for eg.) - a descending pair of notes. It's getting really annoying. What is the solution here?

thanks

You might need to provide more info than that sorry.  Like what OS is it?  (XP, Vista, 7), what hardware is it running on etc?

Go to Control Panel => Hardware and Sound => Sound => Change System Sounds.  Click on Device Disconnect, and then select "(None)" in the dropdown box.  You'll probably want to do the same for Device Connect.

OK, I've got another, most likely, windows related query. Something my mac version of SC4 never suffered from but my windows installation does (which is about the only nice thing I can say about the mac version), are these fine, gridded lines that appear on almost any large BATs. At first I thought it was only on CC stuff, but it's not. Does everyone else have this problem? It really is a belief suspension killer. Does anyone know how to resolve this by any chance? (it's still there with all graphics settings on high)

(oops, forgot my picture)

They are called Tesselation Lines, and they were once discussed here: ;)

dude, you are a legend (https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Femoticons2.yolasite.com%2Fresources%2Fworship.gif&hash=9ca233a14feb3acee3d98fdba5fc819ec05e629a)

It worked, knock on wood, perfectly: not a tessellation line to be seen.  ;D

For anyone that's curious it is a NVIDIA card issue, and changing the settings as described by wouanagaine in the post ripplejet linked to, does the trick.

Some problems are big and hard to solve, and others are simple... sometimes you don't know which is which until you ask... :)
