First of i would like to say hi, looked around on the site and liked it quite a bit, i just have a few questions, but before i get to that i would like to say i dislike Sim city Society, Sim City 4 is the best one out, i just find it sad that they havent made any new releases of that common sim city game play we are so use it. This leads to my question are there any moded versions of SC4? Any home brews? and if there are, what are ones to suggest, and possibly link me to details/download. I tried searching didnt really find anything, probably because i wasnt so sure as to what the keywords should be.

Welcome to the site, as to your question there is only two versions of Simcity 4, the original and the Rush-hour release (which give you a lot more transport options), you can also get Simcity 4 Deluxe which is SC4 + Rushhour combined, if you have the Rushhour or Deluxe version you can downloaded extras for the game, if you have not already done so I would recommend visiting our download area called the LEX and seeing what is available.

have fun and try not to download to much at once as it can get confusing when first starting out, also check the readme's as you may have to download dependencies files for it to work properly, otherwise you will get brown boxes in the game.

Sim City 4 when combined with the custom content available is almost a brand new game.
Modifiying the game's exe is illegal for the next 63 years, or 143 years, but either way it's so long that it's basically never.
*unless we get EA's permission which is highly unlikely

It's my understanding that modifying the EXE is not illegal, only distributing a modified copy (copyright law) or a tool designed to circumvent a copy protection scheme (DMCA). Something not fitting what's described above is not illegal; otherwise modifying the exe for cpu affinity and the tool that does it would also be illegal.
And the idea EA would file a frivolous civil lawsuit for something not containing their code or letting someone play the game who didn't buy it lacks precedent and credibility. MAYBE if it was being sold for commercial gain you would have to worry about being sued, but it's highly unlikely. They might not like it and they can certainly ban you from accessing online play, but legal action, not a chance.
And, yes, if anyone did come up with a mod that altered the exe but didn't contain the exe itself (or significant chunks of other EA code), and didn't circumvent copy protection so to enable playing without paying, I'd be happy to host it on my own site if it added some unique new ability.

It's a bit of a fine line, and while there are many benefits the SC4 community has decided to stay on the side of the line which says no modding and then releasing of exes, and therefore no risks of lawsuits against any of the sites or anyone.
Modifying the windows exe requires circumventing the copy protection, as i'm told.

i totally acknowledge that the .exe hasnt occured to avoid lawsuits and breach EULA, but i am curious to know, can it be done? can it be manipulated and enhanced?
If it could me modified to lessen the horrible playing experience i get, hell, i would donate 100 dollars to the cause :P
