And this is my Flickr page: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jshultzphotography/
The watermarks on the first two images are due to the software I was using to create a HDR image being in trial mode.
Hopefully this is in the right place and won't be stomped on by moderators :D
So these are your personally taken/created photos? Very nice work then, I am particularly taken with the last one &apls
It could well be the BG of a high end advertisement, all it needs is the product and slogan & voila! (soothe a hectic day away with Fukitol®) ;)
Thanks Ryan - these are mine
I am quite proud of the alst one myself, it turned out better than I expected. It was actually taken donw at Melbourne opn New Years Eve - there was a big storm so I couldn't take photos of the fireworks, so instead tried some street photography ;)
So what level of photoshopping has gone on with it? or is it just a long exposure and filters? Either way it's fantastic. The trees are becoming more prominent while the traffic fades away...
It's two exposures -one is darker one is lighter. They are quite long, and the wind was blowing a gale so thats why the trees are blurred. The two exposures are mixed together in whats called an 'HDR' - search for it on google, you'll see what I mean. The only photoshopping was slight saturation boost.
Very nice pics, Shultzcity. What is your camera? A DLSR I guess?
Some of my best, taken with Sony DSC-W150 (8.1 MPx, 5x optical zoom).

Love the second photoshopped pic Ioan :)
I use a Nikon D90, usually with a polariser ;)
Sorry if I'm bumping a somewhat old thread :) but it's just too heartening to know that there are photographers among SC4 fans out there, yay!
I use a Sony A200, one of the earlier (and not so good) entry-level dSLR. Have been using it for two years, still not quite a good photographer yet. I generally do landscape, panorama, HDR and infrared. I suck at portrait, sadly :P

There is the interesting form & contrast of the seed heads, which are balanced well in the shot; but it's the brilliant bed of colour underneath that ties it all together for me. Those touches of purple are nice.
Wow, I like that shot of the hillside, teddyrised!
I'm hardly a photographer, infact I had to go looking for my Camera... Anyway, I went on a school trip, and as we were passing through Brisbane Domestic Airport, I snapped this particular shot...

Thanks for the compliments! Actually the purple colour shade wasn't really what I wanted but when I played around with some sliders in adobe RAW then it turned out that the purple cast actually worked better :) it's a pseudo-HDR image (but I've reduced the HDR effect as much as possible) processed from a single RAW file, using Photomatix.

Thank you, too! And I really love the first and the last photo :) I'm a big fan of light trails (too bad in my country the cities aren't too safe to hang out after nightfall) and I just starting doing infrared too. Are you using a modified IR camera or an unmodified one (i.e. with IR filter only)?
p/s: Just added you on Flickr, I'm with the same username on that site as well ;)

Actually, I forgot to mention that the last 'night' shot was actually taken at 11:30am. The IR made the sky dark enough for me to add some stars ;)
I have an unmodified D90, with an IR filter.
p.s. I added you back ;)
I guess we share quite a bit in common.
Well, for starters, we're both in love with infrared photography. But I haven't got a decent picture for a long time, haha *smacks head*
Looked up the sites you linked in your signature, and read that you're into web design too :) well I'm currently working as one too.
And thanks a lot for adding ;) do you do panoramas?
It seems we do! Yes, I want to be a web designer when I am old enough. I'll be starting a degree in web design next year. Unfortunately, the sites in my signature are rather outdated, and I'm quite sure I could do much better now. I'm currently doing a site for a friend of mine, so that is taking a fair bit of time.
I did a few panoramas a while back, but haven't lately. I'll have to make more of an effort to do a couple. I'm pretty sure I took a HDR panorama a while back, but haven't got around to processing it. *goes and checks his photography folder*

Ah, I did give HDR (not pseudo-HDR) panoramas a try before but realized that they were too tedious. So I stuck with processed RAWs that are then stitched together using Hugin (http://hugin.sourceforge.net/). I'd recommend Hugin if you haven't used it before. Most importantly it's free and released under the GNU license (or GPL? I can't remember).

Thanks bud! And I really adore your last photo. It reminds me of one photo I took in my neighbourhood before, quite a few years back (and I shamelessly processed it in photoshop, it went a little overboard, I'm sorry). My composition wasn't as good as yours :P

*Note: I apologize for the watermark (now I don't use them because they ruin the aesthetics of the photo), it was a photo I've taken quite long ago haha! If any moderator feels that I'm promoting my site feel free to take it off ;)
How does Hugin compare to PS Ted?

How does Hugin compare to PS Ted?
What distinguishes Hugin from PS is that you get to choose how you would want to project your panoramas. For example, fisheye projections and many others are actually not available on PS CS5 (as far as I know). Plus, Hugin is free :) and it outputs the approximate panorama mapping faster than PS does - afterall Hugin is a dedicated panorama stitcher while PS is more for general photo editing and image manipulation purposes.
I'd export my panorama from Hugin as jpg or tiff, and then import it into PS for post processing.
p/s: I just saw your Flickr mail, no worries! I apologize for the late reply and will get back to you once I'm free tonight. See you around!
Jacob, do you have larger copies of the last two photos (above)? I'd love to use them as desktops on my new laptop. :)
Later...
Joan

Oh, I can explain on his behalf :P but maybe he'll need to correct me if I'm wrong.
It's an infrared photo, taken by exposing the camera's sensor only to infrared lights (yeap, our camera sensors are not only limited to visible light). Infrared photos will usually produce a false colour photo after post-processing, an in this case the foliage turned out to be slightly red (I think they should be orange/yellowish or pale beige in the original unmodified IR photo). Infrared photo also produce dark skies under sunny days, and the stars were added in later using photoshop ;)

Played around for a digital SLR for the first time during the weekend. These were my best shots:
Daytime: Highway 401 westbound viewed from an overpass in London, Ontario.

I have just finished building my own site to promote my photography / web design. One of many reasons I have been away from the game lately. I would really appreciate it if you checked it out and let me know what you think! Thanks :)

Jacob, very nice website, simple but out-of-the-ordinary.
I've got a Gallery2-based site; http://davidedwardsphotos.com/ (http://davidedwardsphotos.com/)
I haven't been doing the amount of photography I did when I had an AP-wide role, but I do get the occasional trip in. Some I'm particularly proud of:
- Red Rock Canyon (near Las Vegas), USA - http://davidedwardsphotos.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=11077
- Civil War Battlefields (Antietam & Gettysburg), USA - http://davidedwardsphotos.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=5322&g2_page=1
- Kyoto, Japan - http://davidedwardsphotos.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=3226, http://davidedwardsphotos.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=2969 and http://davidedwardsphotos.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=2723, and
- Bangkok, Thailand - http://davidedwardsphotos.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=252
I really do need to clean it up and put together a favourites section. Plus I've still got a ton of old Kodak Elitechrome Extra slides to scan in (like Nikko in Japan on a cloudy/wet day).
Thanks David :)
You have some really great photos in there! definitely worth taking the time to clean it up a bit!
Hey Shultzy, how are things? Your website looks fantastic, I am quite confident you've got a strong future ahead of you. :)
I am particularly drawn to your images "Turmoil" and "Shade". With Shade it's amazing how other-wordly a regular part of Newcastle can become! Turmoil is remarkable and I would love to know a bit of how you go about achieving such an effect, particularly with the clouds. &apls &apls
It reminds me a bit of the work of my friend Lisa, however hers are watercolour drawings. Check out her stuff: www.lisafalk.com (http://www.lisafalk.com)
btw here is a photo I took the other day (with my phone), of a building I want to recreate one day as my first "big" building (although very much mid size in SC4 terms). I like that the glass on my side of the road (in the top right of shot), is lining up perfectly with the building (completely unintentional)

Nice photos, everyone! I apologize that I've been away for so long - I took a short hiatus from photography because my creativity simply went dry and it took me quite some time to get back on track again.
I'm currently living in Denmark and will be here for 6 months - let's just say that while I miss the tropical heat and humidity of Singapore, I do embrace the Danish climate and culture whole heartedly :)

It was snowing in Århus a few Wednesdays ago, and I thought it would be nuts to have someone riding the bike in this kind of weather. Apparently most Danes are nuts because they still cycled like normal :P

The bicycle stand outside my window. I used a ND gradient filter to prevent burning out of the sky :)

Hey Things :) Yeah mate not too bad. Really busy atm with school, tafe, and the business. Thank you for the kind words!! My dream is to be able to live off my photography, but selling landscape photographs is very hard market to break into. I am doing Web Design as an alternative.
I was actually surprised by how well 'Shade' came out after post processing - one of those fluke shots that you are glad you spent the time taking! Turmoil actually won a national wetlands photography competition. A large part of getting the clouds to look that way, other than a simply stunning sunset, is using HDR (A process a don't use so much anymore). HDR allows you to bring out all the tones in the image. Combine that with a contrast boost, and you get 'Turmoil'!
I also really like your friends work!! She is extremely talented.
It would be great to see you BAT that building! :)
Here's a shot I got with my phone in the Adelaide Botanic Gardens. It shows a Pacific Black Duck and some large carp going for the same scraps of bread that have been tossed into the water:

well I've moved up to an entry level SLR (from my mobile phone that is, fair leap!). My interest is in wildlife & macro photography (mainly birds, insects & spiders).

The haze was caused by all the wild fires, covered the whole Front Range. Best sunset ever, The Rocky Mountains turned blood red that evening. (sadly my camera died and I couldn't take the picture.)

Great photographs, 'specially the Qwest one.
