Title: Textures BSC Style??
Post by: YoungJeezy13 on December 20, 2006, 03:27:13 PM
Hiya there  &idea
I have been looking thru the stex at Simtropolis.com
and I really like BSC stuff. Ok,
now I am starting with the B.A.T and I would like to know what tool or what website do they get their textures?
I know there's Mayang.com but I am not satisfied with their textures.

Bye

Hi there, welcome and good luck with BAT

Textures are plentiful on the Net if you know what you are looking for.  A great resource is http://www.cgtextures.com (http://www.cgtextures.com)

You shouldn't use raw textures for making a BAT, you must transform your textures (with photoshop and others) to fit in your BAT.

By that I think Fukuda means resizing the texture to better fit the model (I presume)...Good advice.  I generally use screenshots of the model faces to get the textures to fit right.

I meant perspective fixing, making light gradients, dirtying up textures, applying patterns and other methods for making more realistic textures  ;D

And what about posting a nice tutorial about your techniques guys  ;D ?¿

Oh, btw, YoungJeezy13  , if you read the creator's threads at the BSC BAT Room in Simtropolis, you will find many many textures which have been gently shared by these creators. There is not a repository for those files, but I am sure that in 15 minutes you will have several excellent textures  ;) . You can start searching threads from your favourite author .

Thank you, you all, I already looked through the website callagrafx posted.
There seems to be some very good textures at the BSC team room by the way.  &prt

Sometimes, the best way to get good textures, is to use photos of the building you want to reproduce. But it's very important to photoshop your textures. Lights, gradients and shadows are very important for the effect ingame. I personaly work on my model directly from textures, in order to give depth, bump and make these surfaces alive..

Hi, just wondering where I could find the brick textures that gascooker used for his buildings.
http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/fr_main.htm
if you look at these pictures, the High street buildings and residential building textures are what I would like.
Thx, I willa also take a look a look at the site posted.
And by BSC Team room, do you mean the one at Simtrop or the one here?

Gascooker is a fellow graphic designer and a serious font of knowledge when it comes to all things photoshop, so my guess is he took a base texture and recoloured to best suit his buildings and how he wanted them to look....That was one of the things that made him and his work special, the attention not just to the model but more emphasis on the texture.  Sorry  I couldn't be any more help than that.
