Tried a search, didn't find what I was looking for.
I just recently upgraded to a Windows 7 64 bit system. I have not yet reinstalled SimCity 4. Just wondering if there are going to be any issues when I do, and wether I will have any problems just moving my old plugins folder over?
My experience with Win 7 or 64 bit systems is very, very limited.
Hmmm... You shouldn't have any problems copying your plugins over. But a few of us have had issues installing... have a look at this thread (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=10617.msg329256#msg329256) to see some of the things that can help.
Somehow I get the feeling you have more MAX experience eh?
Thanks for the point in the right direction. I looked for a while last night and couldn't find anything, was looking in the wrong place.
I had no issues installing Simcity 4 Deluxe on my new machine using Windows 7, but have nothing but CTDs since moving my old plugins folder over. It happens whenever I open an old city that has a population of a couple thousand sims. I am currently slowly adding subfolders back into the plugins folder to see if I can find the offending file. So far, I have had no joy.
I find sc4 can be buggy when it comes to win7 with complete random CTD's. However, I'm unsure if this could be caused by my CPU or RAM.
SC4 also crashes under WinXP or Vista, so it's not related to the OS per se. In most cases, buggy hardware drivers or certain system instabilities are the reason for random CTDs. With my old WinXP system, I had lots of freezes whenever I used the hardware mode, even with different graphic cards and different RAM, but they vanished completely when using software mode. On my new Win7 system, I can use hardware rendering without any problems.

Never thought of it, but on my old computer SC4 ran fine until the day my HD cratered and I had to replace it. On the reinstall with the HD being the only difference it would constantly CTD...perhaps I should have had it in software mode. For the longest time I thought I'd DL'ed a bad plugin...but maybe not so.
Anyway, if I run into any such problems with this new system, I'll know what to try before giving up. ;)
im running windows 7 32 bit and have never had a CTD with SC4, only when trying to plop ferries under the new NAM but thats a NAM issue not a SC4 issue, so i dont think its an issue with the OS per se
