Title: Measuring Distances
Post by: Sorengaard on July 05, 2010, 05:24:19 AM
Hi,  How would one determine or measure distances in the game?  How to tell how far a mile or kilometer and a yard or meter is?  Any other measurements as well?  Thanks, Steve

One tile in SC4 is 16 metres which is equal to 17.5 yards. 62.5 tiles are equal to 1 kilometre and 101 tiles - to 1 mile. Hope this helps you ;)

There is also a cheat that allows you to see the coordinates of any tile over which you have your mouse pointer.  Just press "Ctrl" + "X", and then type "terrainquery."  Don't worry, it's not really a "cheat" in the sense that it would affect the gameplay itself, it only provides the coordinates.  This will help you to determine the distance between two tiles, and you can translate that to meters, miles, etc. using the conversion factors io_bg posted.

Exactly what I wanted to know.  Thanks for the help.  BTW does this make sense:  1 acre is 4047 square meters.  The square root of 4047 is 63.6160357. 63.6160357 divided by16 ( one tile in SC4 = 16 meters) = 3.97600223.  So 1 acre in SC4 would be 4 by 4 tiles.  Thanks again for the help.  Steve

Yes, that makes sense!!!! Amazing how much mathematics one needs when getting into this game... ;)
