Title: Namyra- Update 3 (July 17, 2010)
Post by: CoastRunner on July 08, 2010, 10:18:52 AM
Welcome to my second city journal, first on SC4D, called Namyra!  I hope you will all like it.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg185.imageshack.us%2Fimg185%2F5014%2Fbannergl.jpg&hash=93e8a44be5bebacd874edaf981ddff96b02c2215)

Last checks are made as workers leave the factories and let the night shift take over.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg256.imageshack.us%2Fimg256%2F5268%2F72070527.jpg&hash=bd1024890a9dee2ccd818e1d756690607c58e3d4)

All is quiet at the airport, as the last flight left hours ago.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg691.imageshack.us%2Fimg691%2F6729%2F71898406.jpg&hash=79a87638a2849783ca7a376c2a940efc4953c878)

The rail line is also quiet,  All lies still in wait for the night.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg63.imageshack.us%2Fimg63%2F186%2F42092838.jpg&hash=c87eac252f27b1993d8672182bb72c76c8dda2f0)

Small farms are locked up to keep out any unwanted visitors.  Out here, nature still lays claim.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg42.imageshack.us%2Fimg42%2F9689%2F42364927.jpg&hash=b4b1830953f4a1189d57e7d17dca14c2869d6173)

The tide recedes in the cove, signaling the beginning of the twilight.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg442.imageshack.us%2Fimg442%2F8888%2F93639064.jpg&hash=760d1577f40fb8529cae6be517402d864c991b55)

The lights stay on over the bridge, permanently lighting the only safe way across the cove at night.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg59.imageshack.us%2Fimg59%2F3476%2F11934036.jpg&hash=d7e4a311f4aba234cf154c2e9582f887f8dd4c7b)

The council hurriedly finishes their meeting, they don't want to be outside in the dark.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg155.imageshack.us%2Fimg155%2F7115%2F82510546.jpg&hash=a17c1bf75bd440ad12fba4350b49e4e49b6bf2e7)

All the shops close, and small children are called in to bed.  It is easy to find yourself in the cove if you can't see where you're going.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg43.imageshack.us%2Fimg43%2F5339%2F71181344.jpg&hash=cd247467aa47eaf64324cbd9872338cd8bcddcb9)

The warehouse is packed with everything needed to be shipped the next day.  No more goods are brought at night.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg138.imageshack.us%2Fimg138%2F3941%2F42082642.jpg&hash=c08ba96b44398cf719b4d0d9ec166821127bbe25)

But, just as twilight always comes, so comes dawn, bringing with it another busy Namyran day.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg215.imageshack.us%2Fimg215%2F4180%2F110eb.jpg&hash=08946ad78bc4f0656bd0cebe6b2c7168a2622be4)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg251.imageshack.us%2Fimg251%2F1193%2Fupdate2f.jpg&hash=9d21d1bb858510b7f3a0e17bd2efc909bb9a1587)

My alarm clock buzzed at 7:15, signalling to my brain that it was near time to leave for school.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg94.imageshack.us%2Fimg94%2F5923%2F29923462.jpg&hash=c5334d7e63b116b05b9a7058c6ff4578d78fb38f)

I walked away from my house in South Stammergand and over the rail into Outer Rowham.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg130.imageshack.us%2Fimg130%2F3544%2F94399193.jpg&hash=c708e4dcc0171b6cf679e21e07e609a8b28eab59)

I trekked down the main side street for a good few minutes before it turned southeast to follow the rail line.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg710.imageshack.us%2Fimg710%2F9268%2F20703733.jpg&hash=fa6f069078301ec47181b031f1fd6a70315a94b1)

Still walking at about 5 miles per hour, I plowed right down the diagonal street that led directly to school.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg195.imageshack.us%2Fimg195%2F4314%2F11969442.jpg&hash=c454709b4749506d3b5bf8924203c46baa4b1bd5)

Eventually, it rejoined with the rail, and kept a couple yards away the rest of the way to school.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg42.imageshack.us%2Fimg42%2F9913%2F32474735.jpg&hash=5b817646bce9dc9a7d1defaf448893af9cb4aab4)

The new model homes all over Namyra, including mine, had popped up seemingly overnight in the recent housing boom.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg205.imageshack.us%2Fimg205%2F2543%2F66025058.jpg&hash=a22fd2673c3f1bc8138229ca74286e47051c7f81)

Rowham High School, regulated by the Japanese Seaboard Education Committee of America, had been my school for three years.  It was here that I spent long hours learning about nothing in particular.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg139.imageshack.us%2Fimg139%2F4097%2F67141400.jpg&hash=fc222f0a2c8795f2dac309450a116a45ee103a0c)

When school let out, I ran down to Rowham Park Station to catch an express into downtown.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg52.imageshack.us%2Fimg52%2F2838%2F88862281.jpg&hash=a308de27f78028a31eab4e9467cc13a169e3ee0d)

The rail line went right through some of the original suburbs of Rowham and Tampica, on both sides of the track.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg3.imageshack.us%2Fimg3%2F5852%2F28405473.jpg&hash=ef6995c597fbedb2d566eebb0382dffe7360b702)

Soon I passed my school again.  Sure it was backtracking, but the Rowham Park Station is the closest one to my school.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg694.imageshack.us%2Fimg694%2F6303%2Fnamyra210.jpg&hash=78ca33ffed89d80ffbda40cfb6ca2b2403f3ec7f)

Eventually, the train would split off onto the Downtown Track, going southwards.  It used to be used for freight, but is now mass transit.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg291.imageshack.us%2Fimg291%2F2028%2Fnamyra211.jpg&hash=3b6be2371097d827e899c02ae6ce83f6c48a0ed7)

The rail was crossed by roads multiple times, and the train advanced slowly towards the last station.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg85.imageshack.us%2Fimg85%2F7830%2Fnamyra212.jpg&hash=5c94efc163d29ba566f0aeecf81c8930d86960b5)

I got off at the last stop to see two new buildings being worked on.  They seemed to represent the exponential growth of Namyra recently.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg251.imageshack.us%2Fimg251%2F3623%2Fnamyra213.jpg&hash=bbdcff57c2ace36ef8d03f54e03030ee65cae305)

Farther along the road, I reached the shop my parents ran in the middle of downtown.  I asked if I could go to the Tampica Rays baseball game that night, and they agreed.  Tonight, the Rays would face off against the actual Seattle Mariners, in a friendly game to warm up for the season.  The excitement was huge, as nothing like it has ever happened in Namyran history!
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg691.imageshack.us%2Fimg691%2F8845%2Fnamyra214.jpg&hash=bcd6a28df2b156f493abd795bbfa146d57f0f3fb)

Next update shortly.  Hope you enjoyed!

A preview for possibly three or four updates in the future:

Mainstream Parkway
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg269.imageshack.us%2Fimg269%2F3096%2Fnamyrajan17127127898184.png&hash=beeae4d3f734570a0b301a0bb19d591981dd0df8)
Goes from Barclays Beach straight to the downtown roundabout and CoastAm HQ.

(All it required to make was taking one tile from the side of the existing road.  It brought a ton of new businesses and buildings in, but I need to remember to build out first, so this first version wasn't permanent.  It will, however, look almost exactly the same in the actual update version)

Plus a small town: Aspena, along the river to the northeast.

I sped down Rowham Road and turned off onto Barclays, where my friends were meeting in front of Buffalo Grill.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg695.imageshack.us%2Fimg695%2F7343%2F82709685.jpg&hash=d0142afcd87faf374e7ab6e518187098fd55a882)

After my rich friend, Xander, who lives just around the block on Vanderbilt, and whose dad owns Barclays Beach, bought us all wings at Buffalo Grill, we discussed our seating options.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg818.imageshack.us%2Fimg818%2F2898%2F79601611.jpg&hash=224a1f196938ea028444c6b92c979a39d342fa37)

We had been planning to sit in Rowham Park itself, as the stands had the best view of the game, but Xander said that he couldn't get us any tickets.  Being rich didn't matter if there wasn't any more tickets to buy, I guess.  So, we decided that it would be best to watch from the Foul Grounds.  There was a large screen facing the grounds that showed the game, plus we could catch home runs!
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg688.imageshack.us%2Fimg688%2F6838%2F93779507.jpg&hash=4b97ea95ccce47b95ce6efbcf8031e4c2498fee1)

The game was intense.  The Mariners, led by Ichiro's grand slam in the fourth, had obtained a 4-2 lead over the Tampica Rays.  I went up into Tampica Tower alone to watch the game from above, and I don't know if it was me not being there, but suddenly the Foul Grounds came alive as the Rays hit three straight solo home runs with two outs in the top of the ninth.  Going into the last inning, clouds gathered overhead, and a light rain began to fall.  I doubt if the crowd even noticed.  Two quick outs followed in the bottom of the ninth.  There was a full count.  The game which started with Ken Griffey Jr's single could end with his strike out.  The windup, the pitch, a rumble of thunder, and...
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg231.imageshack.us%2Fimg231%2F5466%2F57464933.jpg&hash=67b633467c6c1197f9cc073c2542b4d006fa181e)

STRIKE THREE!  You're Out!  The Mariners had fallen to a AAA farm team from Tampica 5-4. It had ended just in time.  That first lightning strike would have called the game then and there.  But, unknown to the celebrating fans until later, one person would not be celebrating.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.fivestarcomics.com%2Fknightwolf%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2009%2F07%2Flightning-gallery-18.jpg&hash=a32efe5d66bf498d55d3f13e812d82adadb86c57)

Fifteen years later, Nick, Alexander, and Jacob stood at the base of Tampica Tower, and thought about that night when their friend had died.  Around Rowham Park, not much had changed.  But all three of them had.  Nick was the CEO of CAUD, owner of several hockey and baseball teams.  Xander and Jacob owned their own restaurants.  All three looked over the city and thought how much it had changed since he'd been gone.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg20.imageshack.us%2Fimg20%2F7970%2F91058070.jpg&hash=ddf236dedd68bf333d21ec7a2e85b7ce8678e922)

New, larger offices were branching out into the suburbs, and the industrial complex was converting to high tech.  A library had also been created.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg51.imageshack.us%2Fimg51%2F5159%2F61018702.jpg&hash=8d622d327cf81e7477f36f0e337356db80022fc7)

The area around the high school hasn't changed much, though Nick was discussing plans with his chairmen to create a new suburban development centered around an artificial lake, called Lakewood.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg175.imageshack.us%2Fimg175%2F3492%2F76286351.jpg&hash=cbd15b4ea912aa18bf20699634ca9daf6e7b94a2)

A new, higher capacity train station had been created in the heart of the city.  Many new midrises take the place of the once small houses and townhomes, and there are plans to remove the school and medical clinic, as there is no longer a need for them due to the larger medical facility next door, and there being almost no residents in the immediate area.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg693.imageshack.us%2Fimg693%2F6954%2F94952017.jpg&hash=2062aed298cdbde3980af025dd0a8e8c455547c7)

The tallest commercial building in Tampica, CoastAm HQ is blue to represent the sea.  CAUD has been buying up the land around its HQ, and when the commercial status is ready, it will demolish the buildings it bought to make a plaza around their building.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg43.imageshack.us%2Fimg43%2F5530%2F18948298.jpg&hash=5db78c785171f37e8822478e1951c7e071517b41)

Large apartments have been built along the rail to the north of downtown as home to construction workers, industry workers, and other low-income workers.  A police HQ has also been built to service downtown and the northern slums across the bridge from the Covea Industrial Center.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg696.imageshack.us%2Fimg696%2F179%2F310vb.jpg&hash=b7f4b76205f5ce0412d7d555fc01f657ac57300e)

Perhaps the largest change has been in Covea West, where the airport has been expanded to an international terminal.  Direct road and rail lines link it to the industrial complexes and CBD.  Namyra looks forward to the future...

Thanks, cj!  That stadium is Bonus AGS Palatka Field by scba, which can be found on the STEX: http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=20593 (http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=20593)

Unfortunately, due to the fact that I'm still not a very experienced player, the tile of downtown has completely imploded infrastructure-wise, and is rapidly abandoning.  Therefore, I will leave you with one last mini-update before it's over (so mods, if you want to move it anywhere now, go ahead)  I will be starting a new MD many weeks from now, and I'll still post the occasional picture of Namyra studying its downfall over on CSGf, but this is the last cityscape thing you'll see from me on here for awhile since I'll be on vacation.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg832.imageshack.us%2Fimg832%2F9104%2Fbanner.jpg&hash=faab9a6da21ce76be4ef77072c73090bd3454142)

To the north of Tampica, on the rail line that heads north out of Namyra is the burgeoning suburb of Stammergand.  Existing since nearly the founding of Namyra Cove over 75 GY ago, it originally was only a small track that wound up into the countryside next to a railroad track, bordered by consistence farming and small ramshackle huts.
Nowadays the area is a hub of industry and commercial for people and freight coming in and out of Covea North and Tampica.  Neighborhoods have been built around it, and it is now a community of nearly 4000 sims.
Officials in Tampica have ordered now that this railroad, which has been the heart of Namyran transportation, be given a name.  This worries residents of Stammergand, as they feel the name of their city gives the wrong impression of the area.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg843.imageshack.us%2Fimg843%2F3986%2F53338489.jpg&hash=3752c297c7ea2e458f82191f0ee8a46d46b28814)

For many months, citizens of this community on the east side of Stammergand have been clamoring for a new name for their town.  This has become an almost certainty in light of recent events.  Their proposal for the new name derives from the name of the forest which borders it... Roanoke.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg826.imageshack.us%2Fimg826%2F5935%2F42245885.jpg&hash=1071f2263a259eec440fa1311c0b912e07d3f1d1)

One person from each household in town was told to report to the School Board Office the following day.  While there, they voted on  a name for their city, and the name of the railroad.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg843.imageshack.us%2Fimg843%2F2167%2F12596731.jpg&hash=81dfc0943e6b13e3e9e4767c7756159173bdbb67)

By a unanimous vote, they decided to name the town Roanoke.  They also decided to name the railroad the McGee-Roanoke-Tampica Railway, after where it transfers to a different line in McGee, stops in Roanoke, and splits in North Tampica/Vanderbilt.
The new name was so much more attractive, new businesses began moving in immediately!
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg843.imageshack.us%2Fimg843%2F3411%2F86856140.jpg&hash=25115e485c758b8774ed6b1cd5ba69126cf005f5)

A commuter train leaves Roanoke Platform bound directly to Vanderbilt Station for the big baseball game at Rowham Park tonight.  It will be going all over Namyra all night shuttling people to and from Rowham Park.

That's it for this Namyran Mini-Update!  Hope you enjoyed it!

Note: This was set before the previous entry, and was also created before it.  Roanoke has changed even more in the 15 GY since then!

I see some improvement! This update is better than all the others before. Continue your good work

I especially like to see mattb325's houses where they fit in very well.

Some critics:

A new, better looking train skin would be something nice, I know, it's only eyecandy but it's worth the time to search one you like ;)
