Welcome to this, my second Mayor Diary/City Journal
Some of you may have recently seen a couple of my pictures around this site one of which recently made it into the HoF. Since most of my pictures are from the same city and region i decided i would make a showcase of them, and begin to inject a bit more creativity into the story behind them.
As such i have started this MD south east kent. This is basically my re-imaging of the area of the most south eastern county in England, which is an area most of my relatives call home.
So far the majority of my region is barren, however i have started on some elements of the countryside. The main area i've been focusing on is my re-imaging of Ashford, which in reality is a town. However in my version it is a metropolis and when finished will sprawl throughout the northwest of my region. After this i plan to expand the countryside and build a large town in the current site of Folkestone
My first few updates will be specifically about Ashford.
For now im going to post many teasers of what's to come in Ashford, and of the images already on the site. :)
Hopefully ill get my initial update up tomorrow and create the history of my region.

Cheers to everyone that commented :)
And so onto my first proper update. And I shall begin with the city centre.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fa.imageshack.us%2Fimg7%2F6505%2Fashfordcbdhighlight.jpg&hash=287c35daafdd595e31232c7560d0f2fad8e5a215)
As a relatively modern city Ashford does not have a defined ancient city like Paris or London, however it is generally considered that the central business district stretches between the two main railway stations, and is enclosed by the dual carrigeway; Parkway. However due to several sky-scraper booms in the late 20th century and early 21st it's boundries have become blurred as high rises now sprawl far and wide. There are few buildings older than the 1960s in the centre as most were demolished to make way for concrete brutalist buildings, many of which have been demolished themselves. The oldest building is the Bank of the United Kingdom which was built in the mid 19th century.
The population of the city centre is approximately 25,000 inhabitants in the highrises in southwest of the district. The majority of the buildings in the centre are high wealth offices, however there are some high wealth shops and in the very south there is Parliament House, home to the government of the UK as well as Ashford city hall.
Ashford public transit has four underground stations in the area which are all connected with underground passages to each other and to the two main railway termini, of these underground stations Tufton street, with it's large entrance and park, is the largest serving millions of commuters every year. . Traffic is considered a major problem in the city centre as the majority of the roads are single carrigeways, and in some parts there are single lane one way streets. Most people therefore opt to use public transport to get into the centre.
Enough talk, Pic time.
First a mosaic from one edge to the other, starting at the top with the bank of the UK an ending at the bottom with St mary street tube station.

It's a district of Ashford in Kent... the locals call it "No Hope".
Callagrafx: Thanks for enlightening me! To be honest I have never been south of Bermondsey! Kent and South East England is a uncharted territory!
Always nice to see a British MD appear; they seem to be a little out of fashion with the MD/CJ community at the moment. Ashford is looking pretty good and recognisably a British city - especially in its chaotic mix of old and new architecture and the way the layout looks evolved rather than planned.
The 'Stanhope' picture is really excellent. Nice use of the sunken plaza with the HSBC building, too.
I saw your pics at the picture competition. Nice to see the city they came from. The CBD is great.
thanks for the comments guys, ive been busy since i've got back but i'll try and squeze in another update soon as im away for a week learning to fly gliders soon :)
Nice city central. I'm waiting for the new updates.
right so i just got back from flying this quality aircraft: :)

But anyway time for an update and this time it is of the borough of Eastworth.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fa.imageshack.us%2Fimg153%2F3163%2Feastworth.jpg&hash=7a442f58fd39f7fe29f4bed3b54246c8bf441127)
This borough, as the image shows, is adjacent to the CBD. The borough has several notable features and buildings, the most important is Sedgemore Station. The station is the largest terminus in the city and handles millions of passengers every day. It's interlinked tube station is the busiest in the city, and is one of several in the district. There is also the large Eastworth hospital which is the city's main medical centre and contains part of the biology department at the of ashford Imperial University who's Eastworth campus is located across a dual carrigeway from the hospital. Croyde park contains the Ashford wheel, which was built to commemorate the 1500th anniversary of the city's establishment in 0506 AD. While the majority of the borough consists of highrise flats the western edge is an extension of the cbd, and contains the city's tallest building which is the headquarters of Berkshire Hunt Bankers. The northeast part of the borough contains Canal Hamlet; the home of Ashford Athletic FC, a team in the top league of football in the uk.
But i believe it's pic time. :)

This borough is another one adjacent to the CBD, and as such it's boundries blur into. The borough is one of the most affluent in the city with hugely expensive properties surrounding Maxwell gardens, the largest park near the city centre. The park also contains St David's cathedral the city's major church. The district also contains the main shopping area in the city, which is located on Parkway.
The shopping area.

That's all for now peeps, maybe ill take more day shots next time :)
As others have mentioned previously, you do a good job of integrating the wide radius curves into the urban setting. In this update I particularly like the brick viaduct and the avenue bridge. Somewhere there is a set of el-rail pieces that have businesses in the railway arches - I think they might be SFBT - could work well in your city.

I have a set like that by deadwoods. I've used them in other parts of the city, but i feel that in this area they look a bit too low rent. I have EL rail in many parts of this city and i have the base texture mod for them which is brilliant, however for this part i wanted to keep the old style heavy rail viaduct to help keep the British style mix of old and new :)
And with the curves i always try to use them whenever possible to try and keep the realism ;)
Great looking urban area!
Great night-time views! Great city, too!
Cheers for the comments peeps, ill get another update soon ;)
You know, I feel like its so rare to see that particular base texture on the park lots. I dig it! Love you custom content mix too...very diversified. Some of my favorite Ill Tonsko buildings made the cut I see...also very awesome. Pic 4 is my favorite of the bunch. The sunken parks look awesome at night for sure.
sorry for the long delay everyone ive been very busy lately i'll try and get an update as soon as possible :/
Sorry for the delay again peeps, for now im just going to show a bit of a teaser of some areas im working on. I haven't had the time to work on the city enough and i don't feel that any districts in particular are ready to be in an Update.
Btw does anyone know if im able to get LHD versions of mrtnrln's mods? His traffic lights and intersection mods are brilliant but unfortunetly look wrong in british cities. :(

Here's a few more random pics from the city, i'm mainly working on the suburbs at this point as the city centre takes to long to work on due to the lag :( It takes like 15mins to place an underground station :/

Very British looking as always. I like the way , in pictures 2 and 4, you've got the corner gascooker shops in the same block as the Tescos - it makes it look like there was probably some older buildings filling the block before they were demolished to make way for the supermarket.
That's also quite some railyard - does it form the boundary between the residential / commercial part of town and the industrial areas?
Very good updates of late, especially the most recent in the suburbs.
I had the lag problem....by the sounds of it you need your RAM increased. Originally I had 250MB of Ram but got it upped to 700MB a few years ago. Made such a difference you wouldn't believe it. Get what ever platform your using (Tower/Laptop) down to PC World, they should be able to sort it for you.
I have the same lag problem and I have 4GB of RAM (limited to 3GB due to 32bit OS), other than that, I really like your city. I've been to England recently (London, a week ago) and it looks just like it.
Really nice, I like the british style in SC4 with Gascooker's and IllTonkso's BATs, you render them very good &apls
Guillaume
Cheers for the comments peeps :)
Zero7: the rail yard is right on the edge of the southern city tile, i'll get an image showing the area, but yes (ignoring the "city boundries") the railyard seperates an industrial area from residential.
wallasey: i have 3.5 gb of ram and a 2.3 ghz each, triple core processor so i think it's simply the size of the city as its all medium/high denisty buildings over a 4km^2 tile.
WC_EEND: Thanks my intention was for it to look like london :)
Sciurus: Merci pour votre opinion. :) peut etre dans l'avenir je vais essayer à construire une ville français, et j'utilserai votre batiments. :) (think that makes sense :/ )
Np, they say size matters.....and after the numbers i've seen fly around above...I'm feeling very under privileged. Oh well!
Wow! &apls Won't need to go to London now, as you've recreated it here. =) &apls Does it lag cause of ploping the U stations and then afterwards when you exit the underground station plop mode or is it something else? Because I get that lag for about 3-6mins every time. My sollution? El.rail, tram and pass. rail. Well I do have a few lines of Metro myself. You just can't do without it.
Fantastic work on the last few updates, looking at all these great pictures makes me fire up SC4 :D
Fantastic work!
Nice city and pics too!!!
cheers for the comments again people :) as before i'll try and get an update again as soon as possible, but it seems i chose the stupidest time ever to start a MD :)
Great job, I Like your UK style &apls &apls
Great city! I haven't used a lot of these British themed buildings in some time but you have inspired me to go digging again into the depths of my HD :P
Looks great! I love the wide diversity of buildings you have. :)

Great British scenes there the highstreets and retail parks look great definately because they're rarely seen these days

I've been on British grounds -near Bristol- recently. You made me remember my trip completely. :) Great job, keep up this piece of art! I can see you put quite some effort on it. It is great! I love it.

Your suburbs look very nice and it is quite an extensive network of different kind of rail systems you have got going there.
Very cool aesthetic  Loving the British themed suburbs. I don't know how fond I am of the el-rail winding through that otherwise peaceful town, but you make it work ;)

I know what you mean with the el-rail, ideally i'd like to have GLR that works better in a rural setting but i don't really like the look of the tracks. Bear in mind that that area isn't a town it's the suburbs of a metropolis ;)
Hi Timo, fantastic suburbs!!! Great update!!!
time for another bunch of photos, this time from the eastern tile of the city, next time ill get some more done in the centre again :)

haha definetly not :) the main thing i wanted to do with the region was to use the landscape but also have a metropolis and ashford was the best location for that. :)
When it comes to doing areas like folkestone i might try and be a bit more accurate in places ;)
so where do you live?
I live in somerset at the moment, but all of my family live in Meopham or Folkestone so i go there all the time pretty much. Also my dad and my brother were born in ashford. :)
next time you are around, drop me a message, we can go for a pint, lol i was born in gravesend.
haha, quality, i'm always up for a pint of spitfire ;)
Just wondering, where do you get that Mini Cooper automata? Great MD and it's nice to see a UK one once in a while.

Thanks for the comment :)
I believe the mini cooper is part of mikeseth's european automa sets on the STEX.
Very nice update again!!!
cheers tomas :)
Just thought i'd say today is my nineteenth birthday :)
Congratulations to you then (yesterday :D).
Happy birthday! Anyway, I have all of mikeseith's cars and have never came across the Minis? Do you have a link handy?
i can't remember sorry, i probs downloaded them like 3 years ago, your best hope is just to search the STEX :/
Splendid work, SuperTimo!
I love your mid-level cities and how they transition with the residential areas. Great stuff!

Good work thus far!
