Title: Game Freezers
Post by: k808j on August 07, 2010, 09:45:14 AM
We  ()borg() didn't want to bump old posts, so this one is started. Looking at LEX and STEX forums, bad sound or video drivers and foreign translations in the item description and LTEXT can cause the game to freeze and therefore forcing a reboot. What else causes this problem?

Over loading your game with too manny plugins beyond the computer capabilities is a possible reason. I have encountered this only when trying to save a game myself.

Mixing conflicting mods is also possible, though in most cases this would cause a a CTD issue.

LTEXT files are fine, but you can't use any accented characters in Item Name and Item Description (and they should be avoided in file names, Exemplar names and such as well).

Another reason for instant crashes is when you don't have files like Terrain Mod Essentials installed, or if you're lacking a necessary Tree Controller.

Just to be clear, there is a major difference between "CTD's".. ie dropping out of SC4 to desktop, and "freezing" (and as far as I know there never is a system "error box" in these cases either) to cause a forced reboot of your op system.. Since you stated freezes, we may as well stick to that description. No SC4 "error" as far as I know causes that behavior .. ONLY issues with system elements such as drivers, improper video parameters (rarely), etc

Believe he means the video graphic setting your using for your game. they be found by clicking on the small monitor icon in game, thats found along the same line as the save game menues or in the region shot top right hand corner, hit the icon with the 3 dots to open the menu. Check your setting, if the details are set to high for your game to handle could cause the game to freeze up.

Also sometime updates for video cards can be a problem, cause the updates for them are ussually for newer games and SC4 being an older game, the newer updates could cause problems running SC4. Sort of along the lines where newer O/S have troubles running older games. If you were not having problems before and you updated the video drivers recently, try rolling them back to a older update when the game funtioned correctly.
