____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Hello everyone, and thank you for visiting my first MD!

A couple months ago I was browsing through the LEX looking for a good map to play on. I also had the idea of an MD on my mind too. So far every map I had come across wasn't fitting what I wanted. Once I found the map NHP Zaraki (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1751) by Shadow Assassin, I knew that that was the map I've been looking for. Thanks for the map Shadow Assassian!

My version of it looks much different though and that reason is because it is FLAT. So far, each city I've started I have leveled it completely flat because I don't really like playing a region with a lot of terrain. I feel that I don't have that much of creative style when it comes to that.

My Region

After I found that region, I began thinking of a name for it. I randomly chose Tubuai as the name. It comes from a small group of islands in the Pacific Ocean. After a while, I decided that that name would not work. I then took another look at my globe and saw the name Tépoto. It was the name of one of those islands. I liked it. I dropped the accent on it and renamed my region Tepoto.

The current population of the region is about 85,000. It has only about 5 cities developed.

I have planned so far one major city in about the center of the region on the main peninsula. I have thought about others spread out throughout the region but none have been created yet. There are currently no airports or seaports at the moment. Those will be created at a later time.

Mods That Will be Used

Some mods that I will be using are the normal ones, the NAM, RHW, SAM, CAM, NWM, HSRP.

The terrain mod that I am using is the CPT Italia Terrain Mod (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1527). I will also be using the CPT Italia Tree Controller (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1528). Many thanks to C.P. for these amazing mods.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%25201%2Ftitle.jpg&hash=141499c48debb13fce70312c005f324fb976e293)

With that begins my first update.

The first city that I will be featuring is called Dead Man's Point. Its current population is 36,754. Right now it accounts for nearly half of all the people in the region. Its current commercial job total is 47,462. This also accounts for almost half of all the commercial jobs of the region.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%25201%2F1.jpg&hash=223378edb41b27515709642a66af6d9636dd185a)

This is a small overview of Dead Man's Points CBD. The city is setup in a rectangle. It has the main CBD surrounded by Elevated rail and spreading out from the CBD are small quiet neighborhoods.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%25201%2F1_2.jpg&hash=e123f3abfb38e6816bd3519062e9032a8a03b346)

Here you can see some housing estates on the east side of town. About a third of the city lives in these estates.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%25201%2F1_3.jpg&hash=de46e6066eed8be65a334ba9d61e554a33a2ae38)

Here is a shot showing some of the detail of the CBD. Coca-Cola has a home here.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%25201%2F1_4.jpg&hash=3ed1ec4818e0dba760e2c22098866db5cd55a3b0)

In this picture you can see the main High School of Dead Man's Point. Their mascot is a pirate.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%25201%2F1_5.jpg&hash=25985d8da63afd7138ec776d42f8d45fa6231475)

This picture features some of the southern neighborhoods of Dead Man's Point. Towards the upper left of the picture you can see one of the elementary schools.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%25201%2F1_6.jpg&hash=ff055c72c96f16eec60e0f9d0532aa68bfbcc27f)

Neighborhood detail.

This is one of the three exits for Dead Man's Point. This is the main exit for the city. The freeway is called I-3.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%25201%2F1_8.jpg&hash=b4a0f9196f0351d27b5f17333bfd621349a65763)

Dead Man's Point Hospital is home to a large number of jobs, hence the large amount of cars in the surrounding parking lot.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%25201%2F1_9.jpg&hash=06543fed9963eb316ce776a87ab933d985642bf1)

The inside rectangle of Dead Man's Point has a lot of old brick apartments. There are also small shops here and there. This is some of that detail.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%25201%2F1_10.jpg&hash=ee150be76c16214069252df4a91274bade1fefa0)

And here is an overview of Dead Man's Point looking east.

I hope you enjoyed my first update! Comments and suggestions are very welcome.

Updates will usually be on Thursday (I was busy on Thursday and Friday night so I was not able to get it out). I will often show teasers on Monday with comments too.

Once again, thank you for coming here and I hope you enjoyed it!

Promising start Jayster. I like the combination of lots in the CBD, but the standout is the green suburbs. Very nice indeed.

Gorgeous start!  Love how green you suburbs turned out.  I also quite like how you've used the RHW, it looks very nice with the trees down the middle.  Looking forward to seeing more!

Dino007: Thanks! And there will be LOTS more!
tooheys: When I make my suburbs, I only zone 1x1, 1x2, and 1x3 and none of those lots touch eachother or the main roads. They're all 1 tile from the roads
or eachother. And then I plant a ton of trees and there you go! Green suburbs
Thomas Neto: Thank you as well. Set it up the way I told tooheys.  :)
Battlecat: This next update will also be featuring some more RHW. Thanks!
Igor: Thank you very much. Hopefully the next update will please you just as much!

Here is the preview we have all been waiting for.... my FIRST mosaic!

Battlecat: Thank you very much. I took a peak at your MD and wow! It has inspired me a little to pay more attention to my coastline and farms.
Gilikov1994: I think the brighter colors add more life to my pictures. Thanks!
chasespncr: Thanks, hope this updates pleases you!

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%25202%2Ftitle-1.jpg&hash=2fc689868e1f0687c0b3371311157267583dfe38)

With that begins the second update.

Just about a couple miles from the downtown of Dead Man's Point the suburbs begin to fade away into farming as far as the eye can see. If you keep heading down I-3 you'll shortly run into the town of Sandy Beach.

Sandy Beach is fairly small with a population of 7,798. There are 2,583 Commercial jobs available and 2,639 Agricultural so most Sims commute to Dead Man's Point.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%25202%2F2_0.jpg&hash=65b6503505f6ea22271e943d9d4ff106f83d6e59)

This is the main "downtown" of Sandy Beach, towards the top of the picture you can see the towns highschool.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%25202%2F2_1.jpg&hash=0a052d384e4bcf2e2892f04cd42c64fdfd0c799e)

This is the newer part of the city. This is where a lot of large development has sprung up. This is also where the elementary school is.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%25202%2F2_2.jpg&hash=c0d95362a8826921b0c0dd26cc13c6aeed2b2655)

Detail of the "downtown".

Detail of new development.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%25202%2F2_4.jpg&hash=5e9dea927cc1db57969b1fe5fcfe4bab8ecbc0eb)

Second exit for the city.

Here is my first try at a T-Interchange. I think it came out fairly well. I'm waiting for the RHW4-FLEXfly to come out to increase the capacity. This is where I-3 intersects with I-14.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%25202%2F2_6.jpg&hash=2e9d3fd68feb28e3c1890c00e206bebff9f42935)

This is a before picture of this intersection. It was very busy and causing a lot of pollution.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%25202%2F2_7.jpg&hash=5061fb3ce1c66691ef46de5afd6bc10be6121c17)

This is the updated version of it. I added another highway heading towards Dead Man's Point that freight can use.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%25202%2F2_8.jpg&hash=f80c4c8fedc6b6d3ed30957d63f100cfd0bf0e66)

This was the first farm in the area. The owner has sold a lot of land to development but he has kept some of it.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%25202%2F2_9.jpg&hash=cf908cd9180bc919ed94c9271739f537efc6cf2f)

Farm detail.

And that concludes this update. Hope you enjoyed it! Join me here next week and I'll take you through the development of the next city along I-14.

I LOVED picture 2.1! The way the buildings rise near the water is just amazing. Your work with the farms is also very well done, and I like the colours you use for your pictures, really brings them to life!

Nesara Investment Fund

Greetings! The Nesara Investment Fund is the investment arm of the Nesara Council, the governing body of the state of Nesara. After extensive research on the land of Tepoto, we humbly put forth a proposal to Tepoto requesting information on any investment opportunities that might be available. The NIF has no specifics to what kind of investment it might be (trade, industry, real estate, finance, etc), and we would be very interested in finding a mutually beneficial way to do business together.

We have identified a strong construction sector in the region, and would like to the government of Tepoto to consider allowing the NIF to open a construction development company here. We hope this letter meets your approval and we shall be awaiting your earliest reply!

Another great update!  The farms look excellent and I like the shots with your rural urban interface.

I particularly like 2.2, your suburbs looks beautiful.  The farm in 2.8 turned out particularly nicely.

TO: Congress of Tepoto

FROM: Nesara Council, Cedar, Nesara

We thank you for your reply, and appreciate your kindness in allowing the Nesara Investment Fund to open and operate a construction firm. We shall apply for all the legal paperworks and submit them in hopes of final approval from the Tepoto government, ofcourse. The name of the company, pending approval, will be called Nesara Properties, a branch of the mother company in Cedar, and part of the holding company that is the NIF.

The Nesara Council itself has also expressed interest in opening official diplomatic channels with Tepoto, perhaps operating an embassy or a consulate in your fine country. Please do let us know if this is deemed acceptable.

Having just constructed our only airport, Cedar International Airport, we could also provide our expertise by sending a few Nesaran engineers to help you through the process. We are also about to break ground on our first seaport. Currently, most shipment to Nesara comes by way of either San Francisco or Portland.

Sorry for being so late, it's been extremely hot here and our house doesn't have air conditioning so the only time I am able to play Sim City is really late at night when it is cold. The weather will be cooling down here soon thanks goodness.

Anyways, here's a little preview of some stuff the next update will hold:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FPreview%25202%2Fp1.jpg&hash=c6fd755ca2dc20e6e09528b46e5516d1975f6f5c)

This is the before picture of this area, this is I-7 where it will cross the Westbrook River. On the south (right) side of the river a little ways down is where I-14 runs into I-7.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FPreview%25202%2Fp2.jpg&hash=3e6e53a965562e22a4f5b2bf2a0e403df770e53e)

And here is the semi-completed picture. I think it turned out quite nicely. It still needs a little more color but besides that, I think it's pretty good. Tell me what you think. Also, if there is anything you'd like to see changed about it, please don't hesitate to comment!

Replies will be addressed during the next update.

Thanks for your continued support!

See you all Thursday.

First of all, your last update was wonderful, Jayster! The town is extremely realistic, and all those interchanges surrounded by green make it eye-pleasant. Keep up the good work!

And about the last image: It looks quite good. I just hope you'll add some cars to the final result. :)

Overall the river and bridge is very well done. I think the grey sand texture on the lower half stands out too much. You did a better job of blending it in on the upper half.

I decided to go ahead and get my update out today instead of tomorrow because tomorrow I will be going to the county fair from 10 AM to 10 PM and I will be too tired to get out an update.

Replies:

io_bg: Thank you very much! I find using the RHW much easier after version 4.0 released.
travismking: Thank you!
Terring7: Thank you as well!
Tomas Neto: Thanks, hope this one is just as good!
nedalezz: Thanks, and refer to my most recent post in your MD
RickD: Thanks, I really enjoy using the RHW. I tried blending the gravel a bit more, to me it sort of looks the same though.
rooker1: Thank you!
Battlecat: Thank you, making suburbs is one of my most favorite things to make, I think they are the easiest. Hope my river looks good
Igor: Thanks, in this update, my spur from I-14 has a lot of heavy traffic and I managed to get a few pictures of that!
ecoba: Well thanks for stopping by, and thanks!

And with that begins Update 3!

In this weeks update, I will be taking you through the town of Westmister along the Westbrook River. Westmister is a small town of about 3,000 people. It has just over 3,500 Commercial jobs. Westmister is also home to a fairly small regional airport.

This is a few months after completion of the terminal. It was shortened to only having 4 gates, Gates A1, A2, A3, and A4. It also has four walk-out gates, Gates B1, and B2 (on the left) and gates B3, and B4 (on the right [not pictured]). This is from construction of the air traffic control tower.

And that is it for this update. I hope you enjoyed it! I'm not completely sure if I will be able to get an update out next week because I have band camp for 11 hours a day starting Monday at 9 AM. If I do manage to get an update out, it will be small.

Once again, comments and suggestions are welcome!

I like your suburbs and the small airport. Everything is so green.
I think the RHW is still not good enough to make a really good looking compact cloverleaf interchange. Your partial Y is much better.

I think the airport is a perfect size for the country of Tepoto :) It reminds me alot of Cedar International Airport!

Question: The parking lots you used at the airport, where can I find them?

The river has turned out great indeed as has everything else here.  Nice to see you putting the shoreline textures to such good use!  The airport came together nicely as well!  I like how you used the RRP textures to fill in the area around the runways.  Looking forward to more.

Well after a long week at band camp and lots of sunburn, here is an update. Sorry it's a day late.

Replies:

kodlovag: Thanks, I honestly think that that cloverleaf I made is the best RHW Interchange I've ever made.  ;D
nedalezz: Thanks! I enjoyed making it besides the fact that my computer kept acting up that date and quiting Simcity after about 30 mins of playing and not saving.  &mmm It doesn't usually do that and lucky it has gone back to about every 4 hours.
Battlecat: Thanks for the kind words, I hope this update is just as good!

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%25204%2Ftitle.jpg&hash=380f23bd882e480ee12055cc3d2a05e5c4ec1d6b)

And with that begins Update 4.

In this update I will be taking you through the development of a small rural area near the Westbrook River.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%25204%2F4_0.jpg&hash=80832aba08622d0b420f6d54ac6fff2e957baca2)

This is the area we will be looking at today. I have already done a bit of detailing above it. I have also turned on the grid just for reference. I have the areas marked out for the two bridges I'll need to make, first is a small RHW-2 bridge. The second is a RHW-6C bridge. Unfortunately, 6C bridges to not exist yet so I split it into two small RHW-4 bridges. I started by raising the terrain 15M in the center of the river, and I brought it out to the banks. Then I did some other minor stuff and built the bridges.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%25204%2F4_1.jpg&hash=6f9a3851c3204addedc6f85612ded7326481d121)

Here's a look at the partially completed RHW-4 bridges.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%25204%2F4_2.jpg&hash=0c029a64dd12846e49e2cb0ce2cdfe21683d9060)

Here is a picture showing some of the detail of the two bridges. It's not a close shot, for that I apologize.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%25204%2F4_3.jpg&hash=a16ac908f1deefcefba0c32ed5536b66aa9c9f8d)

Here, all I've done is use the Marsh stuff from the RRP set to make a muddy river bank. I've also put some gravel above the marsh stuff to give the illusion that the river is really low for the summer time.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%25204%2F4_4.jpg&hash=354d314e2ac6b95294cbeb587315195f064da471)

Now I have added some trees and flowers to the river bank to make it look more green.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%25204%2F4_5.jpg&hash=3cc17e527951bf1b486602fb4a56fe0f5b1724f6)

This is the design for the few fields near the river.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%25204%2F4_6.jpg&hash=b20fbcd64f42f7a5e38532e150e92ff4c6a30fca)

After a bit of bulldozing and rezoning, I decided that I'm satisfied with the area and fill in the open area with some trees.

I hope you enjoyed this update. I'm not sure what my next one will be on because I am currently struggling with building an eye-pleasing Capital of the region but I just can't get it work the way I want it too.

Jayster

EDIT: I decided that that was just way to short so I decided to use some of my free time today to create a mosaic showing some completed area of Westmister.

A very nice and colourful looking MD. Lots of close-ups of  infrastructure, and I liked the small airport you made. I always think that using a lot of space or planting lots of greenery makes a MD look more realistic. You are doing both, giving your images quite a natural feel.

I agree, this is the best RHW cloverleaf interchange possible to build at this moment. But I'm waiting for even better RHW possibilities. RHW improves very fast. Again, it is the best clovereaf I've ever seen. Keep up the good work.

Cyclone1001: Awesome! Hope you enjoy this update!
kodlovag: I can't wait until we can build an interchange that has several levels without using tunnels.
MattyFo: Thanks!

I have taken my MD in a different direction, my current map just wasn't working for me anymore, it didn't have enough variation in the terrain and it was too small. So I upgraded...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%25205%2Ftitle.jpg&hash=2a8c2aa262feee2a14402e9608e156237c5edce4)

With that begins update 5.

So this week I was looking for a new region. I finally found one I'm satisfied with.

<a href="http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/7307/tepotolarge.jpg">(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FGeneral%2520Shots%2FTepotoThumbnail.jpg&hash=7d6cb0159d182d124991b7d3cfea68d555653fef)</a>

Click on the image for FULL resolution! Warning 3078KB.

This is the map I finally settled on, it has 169 big city tiles and lots of land. Plus there are mountains for future ski resorts!

Anyways, back to the actual update. The city that will be featured in this weeks update is actually the second city in the region. Its name is Riders Wake. Its a pretty small town so far with 2,263 people.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%25205%2F5_1.jpg&hash=a7cfd197fc58eb80c70ca58a5d334907e8fc04c9)

This is the one and only neighborhood in the city. It's the oldest in the region. Also, every single home in this neighborhood is histroical so no one can destroy any home to build some "fancy" modern mansion.

A very nice looking small town, and the way you have made small squares in between the houses is working very well.
I would say the large fountain is a bit out of place in that spot. It is such a grand looking feature and could do with a bit more grand looking square or park around it.

With that begins Update 6!

Today I will take you to the city of Sherwood Acres. It's a fairly large city of about 21,000 people. There are about 25,000 commercial jobs.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%25206%2F6_0.jpg&hash=dd11618754451f12580bf712a9921ed6bdff4a74)

Heres an overview of the downtown.

This is the north side, a very small commercial development.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%25206%2F6_2.jpg&hash=20c64de6a465110f3800fda910b24f79f7878cfe)

This is the end of the line for the train. There's a small station stop near downtown.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%25206%2F6_3.jpg&hash=eed22caa144f700fa1fcd1f8601bba6872e4019e)

One of the two highschools in Sherwood Acres. The two highschools are big football rivals.

During rush hour, about 10,000 cars pass through this intersection.

And now time..... for an.... EXTREMLY big mosaic.

So many trees!  Your city looks fantastically green and organic!  I like the little old rail station in the suburbs on the STR line.  Where did you pick that one up?

Glad I stopped by here! You have a really nice MD   &apls
I enjoy your use of wide-radius curves, diagonal routes, and incorporation of rail networks. The high school with the large campus including football field was a great touch    And of course the abundance of trees and green spaces give it a great look. It looks like the type of place I'd like to live in and also the type of place I'd enjoy creating in SC4 ;)

Oh, I love the trees! So green and lively! I see you've already made good use of the hot, new AVE-2 mod.  I'm loving it as well.

It looks to me that you use hooha's modular parking lots. For a long time, I've used his pre-constructed builds and lot sizes, but the modular design has always interested me. Am I even right; do you use them? How do you like it if you do? The shear amount of content there intimidates me.

The intersection in 6.8 is fantastic as well. Very busy! Reminds me of a few suburban intersections I've been hopelessly stuck at before :D

noahclem: Thank you very much. This is the first style of building I actually enjoy!
chubby420: Yes. I use the modular ones and I LOVE them. They are great, easy to use because before you place them, they have the arrows to show you if you're pointing the right way. I only use about 10 out of all of the modular pieces. Thank you very much!
kwakelaar: Thanks!
Thomas Neto: Thank you very much!
io_bg: Thanks!

Well I don't have time this week to get out a full update, so in the meantime, here is a preview:

This city is called Merdel Beach. It currently has about 1,500 people and I plan to keep it there. Hope you enjoy! Oh one more thing, the OWR5 up in the corner is the outline for an upcoming project of mine. You will just have to wait and see

With that begins Update 7.

Today's town that will be featured is called Tarson's Cove. It is a very small town with only 984 people. Most of the people take the ferry to the mainland for their job.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%25207%2F7_0.jpg&hash=f377034065ce766ff47582dc391246cc38213ca7)

Here is an overview of the town facing north. The settlers had to cut away at the cliff to be able to begin development.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%25207%2F7_1.jpg&hash=347de67672c4c6a5434427c1e755de10dfa9de3f)

The center of the town at sunrise.

A lot of the people that live here own boats and luckily they have a place to dock them.

In this update, I will be focusing on a spur of I-25 near the town of Merdel Beach. It splits off just before the town. I-625 is a scenic route mostly used by freight.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%25208%2F8_0.jpg&hash=240a310997061362301c549677a69d54936c2f65)

Not very many people use I-25 here as the main city hasn't been built yet.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%25208%2F8_1.jpg&hash=697e786e6b906bf709e9cc3948dde88eeb67da50)

I-625 breaks off to the right.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%25208%2F8_2.jpg&hash=12f324ab5550a238aae04b0223888e18419ca617)

This is the second exit for the city.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%25208%2F8_3.jpg&hash=3fae7a5c755e50f7249aa084292d19baac873606)

Here, the drivers get very close to the edge of the water. Driving on this road at night is not suggested as it is very hard to see and there aren't any guardrails.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%25208%2F8_4.jpg&hash=1e45b30fa163d297a3b7f56319f35406f7be0901)

The highway makes its way around a small outcrop here.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%25208%2F8_5.jpg&hash=6c7d1bbe0dd0e5a1ffd4cad712517a25bbf15aa6)

Road along a steep cliff.

The only feasible option here was to cut through the mountains rather than building a tunnel or going around.

Part 1

So for this update, I will not be doing nature (sorry, that will come soon though! ), I will be showing everyone how I create small towns in my region.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%25209%2F9_0.jpg&hash=f20ba45e54cb394eb7b93e53ad186f04f6cf142e)

The town that I will be starting out on today will be called Parksons Stretch.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%25209%2F9_1.jpg&hash=89b7b89f89a096549d189a060b79f2c2bf6ddffb)

I already have the main infrastructure built for this tile.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%25209%2F9_2.jpg&hash=5794ef8cff94eeae6dd1dea7a77bee7ae8bb3093)

More roads and rail.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%25209%2F9_3.jpg&hash=502e76a70cbff5c358b693a552e004b91c362de5)

I think this will be a good spot to start the city.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%25209%2F9_4.jpg&hash=f23b7591b7032eb03e1ffe0820434dcbcc9b6662)

First of all, the city needs an exit. This is the one I've built.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%25209%2F9_5.jpg&hash=1fb7dba04e5cbdfb5cf5dbdd4fc7032a964e3750)

Here I have built the main roads and streets for the city.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%25209%2F9_6.jpg&hash=2778c4559f79646e9f61c362e5d0f01d8aa5eeb5)

The zoning is done. This city will start out with only early houses. (C.P. Houses). As the city expands a little, we will see introduction of more modern housing.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%25209%2F9_7.jpg&hash=754f01ade435586241fb9a1d55a5883b192135cf)

Close up of one of the neighborhoods.

And that concludes part 1 of this city building. I hope you enjoyed it!

Comments are welcome as well of course!

Nice update! I found it very informative. I also like the way your coastline looks. The purple looks great! I can't wait for part two!

PS. I've noticed that the barriers and lights on your RHWs appear inconsistently. I think you may have the mod installed wrong. Make sure that only one of the files is installed, 'zzz_lights.dat', 'zzz_barriers.dat', or 'zzz_both.dat', but not all three.

Very nice. The combination of buildings looks very good. They match together so it looks like they were all built around the same time following the same development scheme. And those edge lots make a great curved effect.

Good stuff Jayster. Word to the wise: I use CP's middle and upper class houses extensively. Instead of trying to grow those 1x3 lots and bulldozing over and over again, I have a lot of luck zoning 3x3 a lot, even not on corners. The lots are "small 19th century neighborhood" and look great and so diverse. There are a few different lot configurations too (all are awesome). Just an idea, though I'm sure you already know. Love the neighborhood. We have similar styles for sure and I love it.

Like I said in the competition thread, I am in love with this town.  &apls Your best so far in my opinion! And I see you've used a few of c.p.'s 3x3's  ;)

The town center is great and that solution for the diagonal intersection of rail and road is perfect...adds plenty of character.

Thanks to everyone who has commented so far!

As I've been looking back at my MD in the short time it has been here, I have been noticing a trend. There seems to be a general lack of interest in the work I'm doing. I hope that that isn't the case. I'd like to know what the communities thoughts are on this and if they have any suggestions on what I should do for future updates. I've only gotten about ~16 comments or so in this month and that comes out to about 1 every two days.

I would really like to know what you guys want to see and how to make my MD even better so that it doesn't get pushed aside in the short amount of time it has been up.

I'll look at getting an update out this weekend, one final update for my O.S.I.T.M.

Replies next update.

Jayster,

I like what your doing. It's very nice.  I like how c.p.'s houses look throught the suburbs as well. I would really like to see a region view to see everything. possibly?...  ::)

I've noticed an all-around lack of comments everywhere. I think it's just a dead period in the community. I wouldn't worry about it.

Lastly, this is a game, SC4. The point is to have fun with the game and to have fun with what you are doing. Even have fun just plain writing your MD. If no one comments so be it. As long as I enjoyed the art of building my city, then I feel it was all worth while. You should too.

Don't worry that there is a lack of comments, Jayster. Like marsh said, it's been really quiet around the community lately.

Your Mayor Diary is fantastic! You don't have to worry about it getting pushed aside at all. Your Mayor Diary has been read over 3000 times! And every one of your updates has only been an improvement from the last one. You know, they don't give out the O.S.I.T.M. award to just anybody! ;) Remember, your MD is just awesome (O.S.I.T.M). :D

Can't wait for your next update! &apls &apls &apls

I have not been so active on this community (been more active on Simtropolis). But I just found your MD and I must say it's very very good! Love every picture of your city and I would like to build as nice cities as that some day! :)

Keep up the good work my friend!  ;D &apls

Hmmmm... only one comment? Well anyways, here is update 12!

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%252012%2Ftitle.jpg&hash=1c301aa4158e0bb5ed5dba4ba6e86b11c499fe37)

In this update we will be rebuilding the main exit for the small city of Oak Point near the city of Riders Wake. Riders Wake has grown since the last time we have seen it. It now has a population of about 10,000 people which is spilling into Oak Point. From the air, the two cities blend almost seamlessly. Oak Point is a very small city of about 3,000 people. Most of them live on the other side of Roosevelt Avenue. Roosevelt Avenue splits the small commercial district from the main neighborhood.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%252012%2F12_0.jpg&hash=830ca0a944a5e9a0630e92db838f2199ec6dea72)

To the left we have the city of Oak Point, the avenue going the picture is Roosevelt Avenue and this is the exit that is going to be rebuilt. On the right are some small neighborhoods that belong to the city of Oak Point. The project is planned to increase the On/Off Ramp capacity. To do this, the frontage road next to the highway will need to be moved to the right 10 meters. Home owners living near this road are very angry about this because the road will now be pretty much in their backyard. Then, the freeway will be expanded to 4 lanes on each side to accommodate the larger On/Off Ramps. Finally, the intersection with Roosevelt Avenue and the frontage road will need to be rebuilt. The total cost of this project is estimated at about $135 million.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%252012%2F12_1.jpg&hash=206ec5ec9b31c5b26b85d965760ff952722e36af)

In a few months after the project was passed, the work crew arrives. A small portion of that cost went to the home owners for the purchasing of their houses to be demolished. The crew quickly sets up the work area and starts by moving the road to the right 10 meters.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%252012%2F12_2.jpg&hash=2e7fc1cb6b93bcc03b1cf936b84d1c9b8d46b54d)

Most of this road is temporary, from the street to the right is where the permanent road starts.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%252012%2F12_3.jpg&hash=7181f6eb66402e2dc1dccb91866d95821f252096)

The workers then move on to removing the cement wall pieces. Moving these are not easy.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%252012%2F12_4.jpg&hash=212400006e734dcf8609dca5a6ff07422bc0379e)

At the same time, another group of workers are working on the other side of Roosevelt Avenue removing that side of the wall.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%252012%2F12_5.jpg&hash=c74fa418c0484dce5fef60eafedbc762747152b3)

This is also where the crew begins to dig out and make room for the expanded freeway.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%252012%2F12_6.jpg&hash=3aa3a177374ad93e43d470587719eb85a0aeb9a4)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%252012%2F12_7.jpg&hash=fef46a838f827d1bc37cc3dcdfefac3dbf89ceec)

Here, the crew has started building the larger On/Off Ramps for the freeway.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%252012%2F12_8.jpg&hash=212bffb3a95c2c122b416b1df730097455ac07e5)

At the same time, there are other crews rebuilding the cement walls.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%252012%2F12_9.jpg&hash=558bd7df4dcd1babbac40bf82d4e71d51e45971e)

The workers have now finished the On/Off Ramps on the North bound section of the freeway.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%252012%2F12_10.jpg&hash=327e13963b590d6333ecbb3ca126ee7e325acf1b)

Another angle.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%252012%2F12_11.jpg&hash=47775a217b66f3a31eda99aecbbfe687771e09e2)

Here are the completed On/Off Ramps. Now the workers need to rebuild the intersection with Roosevelt and the frontage road.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%252012%2F12_12.jpg&hash=c28d146eabadbdc1ae4c3a782c07ca83282619ef)

Now the workers have ripped up most of the temporary road to build in the turn lanes for the new intersection.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%252012%2F12_13.jpg&hash=b3b3cb9687bf8c10e5b33b6b94052cc4e2de45b1)

Almost done with the project...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%252012%2F12_14.jpg&hash=6dcb417aa7e5fabf1eacbd667865a5a506a2fdd5)

And now the project is done, surprisingly it was done under budget and earlier then expected.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%252012%2F12_15.jpg&hash=3bbd1fb15d46597a046f3cbc7897c42716818b11)

Here is the finished area after the crew has left and new houses have been built. Grass is starting to come back and traffic has improved greatly.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FUpdate%252012%2F12_16.jpg&hash=35ec3d38c68008410bbddcfe4f5ca910ed0f9f35)

Here is all of the completed area.

I hope you enjoyed this update. Once again, please please please comment!

That diverging diamond is nicely put together and the trees and green grass add to the look!

Also liked the removal of left-hand exits and increased ramp capacity in the previous update, as well as the step-by-step walk through of the construction.

That interchange is really nice, even with the tree problem! Excited for your next update!

Very nice mosaics  &apls

I like all the green spaces and trees in the residential areas, athletic fields, and use of AVE-2 with the Chinese medians and MAVE-4.

If it were me (which I realize it's not) I'd space out that residential area toward the middle-top of the second mosaic between the RHW & MAVE-4 so it was more than one tile/16m sq. per house.

Again, looking forward to more  &apls

So today I have a quick preview. I was on the STEX this weekend and downloaded some container port pieces for the city I'm working on. I noticed that they didn't have any sort of train parts to them so I had an idea... tell me what you think.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1045.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb459%2FThisIsMyLastAccount%2FPreview%252016%2F1.jpg&hash=1570556a907ab12e957f91d320f01e501233db09)

My train pieces are in-between the large cranes and the large stacks of containers. I have made four add-on pieces.
They are: -Container Train Area END

I have three more pictures to show you. Container Train Area 1 is giving me some troubles and wont show up in the game so I don't have a picture of it yet.

Its a good start.  :) Way cluttered though. Also, you have some props placed nearly on top of others so much so that that they actually overlap in strange ways. In all three in fact, one red lift vehicle appears to be partially sitting atop containers and train cars. Looking forward to your future progress on these.

I hope I'll get some more insight from members of the community on these lots.

Thanks cubby420. Actually, it's not the amount of props on the lot, there is a probably with those loaders. They don't blend nicely with any props...

That looks like a picture from Dead Man's Point, though I remember that you restarted with a new region a while back, so I'm not so sure that it is. As for your personal project, it looks like you've modified the textures for the GLR AVE pieces. If so, they look nice. If not, where did you download those textures, and what is your personal project then? Whatever it is, it's probably awesome! Hi everyone,

I've been having issues with the new city I've started, mostly dealing with commutes. Everything is normal as far as time it takes to get to job, closeness of jobs and amount of jobs. This has happened in the past and the culprit is some sort of conflicting plugin. So that means the majority of my time this weekend will be spent sifting through my recent additions to my plugins folder and finding out what is causing the issues. I promise to get an update out soon.

Don't worry! There's no need to rush. Take your time so you don't miss anything in your plugins folder and have to go back again. We're patient and can wait. We'd rather have a good update than one that's messed up due to a conflicting plugin. Anyway, good luck!

Great work with your W2W areas as always! The skyscrapers in the CBD look great as well and the night shots are particularly eye-catching!

Nice night shots! &apls And no need to apologize. We all get busy with RL or other modding projects from time to time. As long as there is some sort of activity, we'll keep coming back. :D Keep up the fantastic work!

Hey guys,

I just wanted to say that I'm still here and I've started doing other things besides SimCity. Here's an example (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9OG6TEn7Rc) of what I've been up too.

Hey guys,

I was going to get an update out today but I guess I'm not because SC4 is being extremely difficult right now. It keeps quitting on me every 20 mins and this third time, it quit while I was saving and before it was able to actually save. Sorry for not having anything to present tonight...

I know that feeling! It used to happen to me all the time with my laptop overheating (the cure involved frozen rocks of all things). Good luck getting your game working right and I look forward to the next update.

Hey guys,

I've been contemplating the idea of closing my MD. I've become bored of it unfortunately. I have come up with a new idea for an MD which I would like to carry out in my current one.

This project will be the recreation of the current city I live in. It's going to be a very big task that includes:

1. Creating the map. The map itself won't be too big because the city is only 6.3 sq. miles.
2. Creating the many unique buildings found in the city. Lotting them too.
3. Keeping stuck to this project.  ::)

I'll try to post updates every weekend or when I have time. Updates will most likely include pictures of the real city, buildings I'm creating, and pictures of the area I'm working on in my Simcity city.

I hope you guys will continue to visit my MD after I begin this new project. I will post pictures of Tepoto sometimes as well.

Sounds like a good idea to me. I'm glad you're not ending your MD, just changing topics. It will be interesting to see what you come up with. And if you have any questions, I'm here to help so just ask. ;) Can't wait for your next update!

Quick question to the people of the website,

How do I set up a second Simcity 4 to run from a different plugins set?

I have two SimCity 4 shortcuts on my desktop the first is to my normal uncompressed plugins folder, the second is to my datpacked version and the shortcut looks like this, the important bit is the -UserDir:

"D:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4 Deluxe\Apps\SimCity 4.exe" -UserDir:"E:\SimCity 4 Compressed\"

hope that helps

Thanks catty,

Here is what I have mine set up to now:

"C:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4 Deluxe\Apps\SimCity 4.exe" -UserDir:"C:\Users\Jeffery\My Documents\SimCity 4 Ferndale"

Unfortunately, it isn't working. I set up the folder "SimCity 4 Ferndale" to be identical to the original SimCity 4 folder but nothing shows up. I'm running Windows 7 if that helps at all.

Jayster you forgot to congratulate yourself on reaching 200 replies!  ;)

Very interesting and useful trick here, thanks for asking about it and thanks for the answers catty! I've already replicated this trick and am imagining so many uses besides separate plugin folders for different style cities--I can keep an empty plugin folder for using PIM-X, a testing folder, and more.

Anyway, congrats on going "double-Best Sellers" and look forward to the next update!

Hey guys,

Thanks for the comments! It's really nice to hit "Double Bestseller" and as a treat for helping me hit that, I have two pictures for you. More coming later.

Real Life:

SimCity Map:

As you guys can see, there is some terrain work that needs to be done. Not too much but some. Luckily, some of those straight "rivers" are actually key roads.
