Title: NHP Chetwood Problem ( Columbus Terrain CPT 07 Tree COntroller)
Post by: wmseith on September 10, 2010, 08:39:05 AM
Good Day,

I recently downloaded this region and installed it properly but I found that when I put the Columbus Terrain #7 Tree Controller into my plugin directory my game would crash as I was loading up a city.  When I removed the dependency the game worked normally.  as anyone ever encountered this problem?  I didn't see any depedencies needed on the readme so I am a bit baffled.  Thanks!

I may be wrong about this, but I think you can only have one tree controller at a time. You could check if that is the problem

I'm pretty sure that was the only tree controller I ever had.  My plugins/depends include, NAM, CAM, SAM, High Speed Rail, Real Highway Mod, Lottery ordinance, RH Rewards Unlocked, Functional Landmarks, BSC Textures Vol 1, BSC Essentials Vol1 and a couple other dependencies I'm not sure of the exact name but none of the other tree controllers.  Unless one of the BSC Dependencies came with one but when I checked my plugin folders I found no controllers.

Where did you get the Columbus Tree Controller?  I could not find it on the LEX, and according to the Wiki it does not exist.  Here is a link to the wiki - http://www.wiki.sc4devotion.com/index.php?title=List_of_Terrain_Related_Plugins (http://www.wiki.sc4devotion.com/index.php?title=List_of_Terrain_Related_Plugins)

Tree controllers do not need dependencies for the game to load (a plugin folder consisting of only one No.7 does not crash).  The dependencies for tree controllers are the trees.  Everything works without the trees, but you will plant a bunch of brown boxes.

What trees do you plant in god mode?  If they are maxis oaks (maple?) planted everywhere then you do not have a tree controller.

What is the name of the crashing file?  I would bet that you are actually adding a terrain mod to your game.  This will make it crash if you do not have the dependencies (terrain textures).

I think the terrain/tree mods are the easiest to get overwhelmed in.  All of the sudden your plugin folder is going to have another 100mb in it.

It was installed when I downloaded and installed a Region called Chetwood by NHP and it is also included in a couple other of their region downloads.  I have also seen it in a ploppable tree variation dependency.  The reason it said it came with the region download was for the trees on snow capped mountains.

Okay, so I believe the region you are talking about is Chetwoot.

The download comes with this file "CP_ColumbusPlayTerrainParametersForUseWithCPT_No7TreeController SNOWCAPPED"

So this is not a tree controller issue.  This file is a custom terrain that works well when you are using a "snowcapped" type tree controller.  The file is looking for custom textures that I believe you do not have.

It seems that CP assumed that you are using a custom terrain mod, and thus your problem.  When he says "replace" in the readme he is saying to replace one of his terrain mods with it.  The game will defiantly work without the file.

I recommend you check out this link  http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=6210.0 (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=6210.0) for a list of terrain related plugins.

Awesome.  I'm going to see if I can find Cycledogg's Terran Mod then.  Thanks for the advice!
