Hello,
I downloaded Deadwoods' SNM lots. I get brown boxes on the naval college and ploppable tanks and such. I checked my missing dependancies with cleanitol.
The problem is, a vast majority of the reported missing files I already have. I redownloaded them, same result.
The one file I do -not- have is the snmtimedprops dat (which I think is responsible for the missing tanks and such). THe link cleanitol gives me sends me to the snm support files. That file is locked and reported to be part of a megapack now... which I have.
I've searched for the forums, and the handfull threads I found didn't relate directly to the lots I'm having trouble with, however, they mention their cleanitol files reporting the timedprops file as missing as well.
I've checked and rechecked deadwoods' master dependancies list, I've checked the list from the "brown boxes" link at the top menu. I've even done google searches (which spat out almost all torrents, which I won't do).
I have spent two days now scouring the site (as well as simpeg and simtropolis) for this one file, as well as trying to figure out what I'm missing for the naval college lot (the lot mostly shows up, one half of it is brownboxed though). I've even downloaded, and redownloaded oodles of files cleanitol reported as missing, dependancies and lots attached to those files, and dependancies and lots linked to those files.
End result, my plugin's folder has grown by 800mb, and I still have brown boxes. This is crossing the line from mildly vexing to aggravating, and aggravating isn't something that should be associated with gaming fun!
I can live without the naval college lot, but I would really like the ploppable tanks and soldiers. Having brown boxes appear and disappear across my military base city just.... stinks.
Please help. If I can get a copy of the snmtimedprops.dat file, I could see not having that was causing my problems, or just give me another avenue of detective work to do. As I mentioned, the download page for it here is locked and links to a megapack I've already gotten (several times now!).
Thank you for your time.
Hello wjmk77
I recognize the lots you mention as those done by Deadwoods. Go to the SC4D LEX, do a power search and select deadwoods in the 'creator/designer' pull down menu. The returned results will have his SNM listed and the Armor set will be the 3rd or 4th one from the top. Scroll down three more and you'll see the Naval Technical College. Those are your starting points.
Yep - they're not on his master dependency list. IIRC, the military lots were the last things that he did before drifting away or losing interest in the game. . . obvioulsy didn't update the list. And double yep - wouldn't trust torrent files either. Fastest way to catch a virus or some nasty malware if you ask me. Triple yep - SNM downloads can be a bit daunting. There are nearly 20 or so and one really has to want them to download them.
All the SNM files are gathered together, organized, and easy to find on the BSC DVD too.
Hope this helps.

This may help you:- SNM Dependencies - Current (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=7057.0)
(edit) A bit more info:
The Naval College building is DEDWD IHT Pharmaceuticals #4 on above link
The ploppable tanks etc are in BSCBATProps RT SNM Vehicles Vol01 #10 on above link
Sarjm is on the right track. The Deadwoods armor set is just lots. The readme links to RT props that used to be on the PLEX. Peg took them off his server some time ago so the readme is outdated. I think I'd be looking at the RT prop packs now.
THank you very much, Jmyers and Sarjm. My naval college is unboxed, and woohoo, artillery awesomeness!
I have a follow up question though. after placing all the lots in a sandbox city, saving, and going back in later in the day, I got a message about a missing plugin pack. I glanced over the city, but didn't see any brown boxes (but then again, it's a large map, with pretty much every square filled with something, so a glance could easily have missed a box or two, especially if they were small ones)
It didn't say the name, just gave a number. I had this problem once before, but knew exactly what plugin I needed then (as at the time I had only downloaded one package). How can I find out what plugin the number is attached too?
Oh ... the number is decimal. Convert it to hex and you'll have the IID of the lot or mod or whatever. It's like finding a needle in a hay stack.
But you can narrow down the search. It's not a missing texture because that will merely cause your lots to look weird and you'll not get a missing plugin's warning. At least that's not happened to me when I've found that I have a missing texture. It will not be a missing prop pack as props are simply not there. Missing models generally show up as boxes.
I'd be looking for something like a reward such as a park or church, or a civic building such as school, fire, or health, etc. I'd be looking for a plop or landmark lot too. Could be simple like a Jestarr plop industrial that was once there but the file was accidentaly removed. In this scenario - the model may be in a prop pack. Your city will look normal. But sometimes the lot file is seperate. I don't think that scanning your city looking for boxes will reveal secrets. A NAM plugin? I've goofed on those before and not gotten a warnings but admit I'm not a NAM expert. A missing mod? Hmmm - I've changed those before. Switched between terrain mods and gotten no warnings. Changed traffic controllers, changed tree mods, put in a removed astetic mods of all sorts without issue. I can't think off hand of any mod that would do it but who knows.
I'd actually focus on military stuff first as that was the subject of this thread from the start. Did you by chance decide to remove some military files that you thought are not needed when the artillery lots and naval college problem was resolved??? Only you know the answer to that but that's where I'd start.
In the end, my answer to your question is - I suppose it is possible to find the missing plugin by searching for the ID number .. but you couldn't pay me enough to do it.
Good Luck
- Jim
Ah, I will pass on the haystack then ;)
I replopped and regrew everything... turns out it was one of the military lots (supply depot 1, brown box on half the lot). The other supply depot lots work, so I'll just not use that one particular lot. I've got every other military lot working fine, so now i'm moving onto getting my CAM stuff up and running so I can play around with that (so far I like it, my simcopy of my hometown is actually quite close to the actual population numbers with CAM running :D )
