Been playing around with LE lately to make some custom farms. I would like some feedback on this one.

I've tried to use prop groups as often as possible to get a good variation. I also transit enabled it which i think turned out kinda cool.
My only suggestion would be not to transit enable it as occasionally you make want to bulldoze the farms to get a higher stage one to grow and you will have missing zone tiles.
I love it. I think it looks great.
Robin  &apls
I like it! The house goes very well with the barn, and the lot has a nice layout. My only suggestion would be to remove the hay stacks from the "garage" and put a tractor there. Usually, the hay would be found in the large barn. ;) Barby has a point about the TE, but I must admit that it looks very good.
That is a Metasmurfing cool entrance of your farm man...
Barby: you don't really want to bulldoze this beauty when it grows, do you ::)
I love this farm just like it is , Meta , great work . &apls
I just would have searched an overlay for the farm court to extend the dirt road in ... ::)
Thanks for your comments and suggestions. I extended the dirtroad into the lot. What do you think? I also removed the haystacks and replaced them with a tractor and a pickuptruck. I also added some stuff behind the barn as i had to extend the lot to make the dirtroad overlay textures to fit :)

pretty cool...very realistic, it reminds me of something I might see in Indiana or Iowa...
Is there a dirtroad texture that "ends" on one side? It looks a bit odd that it curves on the lot and leads to the "garage" in an offset. Or maybe it aligns better with the large door of the barn? Apart from that (yes, I know that I'm nitpicky ;) ) it looks wonderful, not only the larger lot, but also the smaller, which had a really cozy appearance.
A very nice looking farm, great work.
Another great one, I like them both.
Robin
That's a nice mix of SG's country homes and Jmyer's farms (hmm, perhaps it's time for me to go fiddle with the LE again) ()stsfd() The farms look very impressive - great work!
Hello Meta ...
That is a nice farm. The like the burnt orange shingles of the home in your reply #6. Also, the proportions of the home as compared to the barn look good. I see that you are using Cycledogs brilliant base and overlay textures.
Metasmurf - that is so very cool... this is an award winning farm... mind my words &dance
I kind of like the way that the track ends at the garage...That is probably where the most used tractor is parked at nights ;)
Ok so I fixed the dirtroad texture a bit.

Here's another variation. Comments ? :)

Oh Andreas I don't mind you being picky at all :D

I'm glad to hear that. ;) If I had to be really picky, I would point out that the "gates" of the TE portion of the lot don't look as well with a curve leading towards the lot rather than with a T intersection, but obviously that depends on your street layout.
The new lot looks very interesting as well, maybe there are too many "towers" (the water tower, the large and the small silo) for such a small lot. Maybe you could also add some more small props to the lots to make them more lively. Like an old, rusty plough in a corner and stuff like this (I don't know if props like this exists, but I hope you get the idea).
Metasmurf,
This is really some good stuff. I like the lots a bunch. I might suggest "opening" the gates a bit more.
___\ /___ A more acute angle I think.
I tend to agree with
Andreas when he said:

Maybe a chicken coop or if you wanted to really get acurate, every farm around here (Eastern Iowa) has a small "kitchen" garden near the house. A small crop of tomatos, peas/beans, carrots, lettuce (in springtime), etc. That would be located close to the back door to the house. This way the farmer's family could have easy access to fresh produce. Just a suggestion.
---Gaston
I can't do anything about the opening since it's not my props and I'm really bad with the bat.
However I added a "garden" in the backyard aswell as a chicken coop

This is a nice looking farm indeed
I think you should not worry about the size of the lot. The first one was too small. This last one is much better imo ;D
Sweet, the garden looks excellent! &apls
you should definetely upload these somewhere, i would love to have them.
i came into the lotting section to get a good laugh, usually lots are just a bunch of buildings smashed together.
instead ive seen some incredible lotting keep it up!
metasmurf,
The gardens look great, That is what I meant. Basically just something to feed the family with. Excellent.
---Gaston
Excellent farms metasmurf. These are very believable
Sure I can release them in this thread, but beware the dependency list will be pretty big

Patriot1228:If that was your idea of lotting, then you have no idea of what lotting entails let alone modding afterwards to ensure it is a game asset. I suggest you learn abit about lotting by looking at these carefully and also some other threads. Look at what VillaV has done with Kwakelaar's buildings. Lotting is a skill and without it BATs are just buildings.
Metasmurf- the farms are coming along nicely. I like the addition of the garden in the back of the lot(s)- it adds a nice flair to the whole lot. I'll jump for joy if you choose to release these.

I think I agree with you
Barby. I have to admit something though... I don't have a clue what
modding is. I have heard the term alot but never asked about it because I didn't want to feel stupid. Well around here everyone knows I am lets say less than knowledgeable about things, so... What the heck
IS modding? Are there tutorials about it?

(Stands in front of the room.) "Hello my name is
your name here and I am still a NooB." LOL

Modding is short for modifying and is anything that changes properties of lots or the game - like the CAM or NAM. Lotting is the cosmetic side of production and modding the technical side.

Or, LOTting is like hairdressing and MODding is like liposuction.
...Shimmer is a floor wax...No, it's a dessert topping!!!
Whatever, I'm glad there's all you experts out there to do it so well.

Hmm . . . so I'm a plastic surgeon, eh? Dr. NAM-0210 . . . ??? :D (okay, that was a
truly atrocious one ::)).
Back on topic, those farms look absolutely incredible, metasmurf! Very realistic, I might add, with the farm house and the barn, with the dirt road leading up to it. I concur with Barby that there is
definitely an art to lotting, and it seems to me that you're very good at it. Keep it up!

wonderfull work i love the farms &apls
You asked me on MSN if i could do some boat props for you, as you told me you needed some, though, since my modeling skills on things such as boats and vehicles are crappy i found a temporary solution, i exported some models from gta, and rendered them for you. I am having some problems with the 5th boat prop though, it only appears in one of the 4 angles, and looks rather skewy.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi80.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fj179%2FGlenni91%2FBAT%2520pics%2FLEboatprops.jpg&hash=8274f0f5226d74b9697493ab14bf06f61d206ade)
From top to bottom, the boats with their GTA names.
1. Marquis
2. Jetmax
3. Speeder
4 Reefer, with some editing so that i could use it for two boat props.
5. the one on the left, reefer, original model version, though that's the one i'm having problems with.
As soon as i got them all rendered succesfully i'll send them your way, i don't think i want to upload these on the STEX or LEX as they aren't mine , and from a licensed game...
EDIT: nevermind, i fixed the error.

Just waitin for ya on msn. ;)
Very nice farms. Keep it up.

Hahahahaha! Now that was a good laugh! :D
God if only opening up the LE was so, I don't know, brutal! I could assure you it would be less painstaking and a whole lot quicker! ;)
So, I echo the sentiments of our LEX Goddess up there. ;D
Jag får väl återgälda hövligheten genom att säga att dina bondgårdar ser kanonfina ut (det gör de verkligen)!
Your farms look very good Metasmurf, keep it up!
If possible it would look more Scandinavian if You used some of Kwakelaar´s stuff, especially his barns look very good...
All very nice looking can you tell me where you found the information to make these into growable farms?
It's been a while :P Anyway, I've started to compose some slope conforming farm lots. They're still in the first phase though.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg128.imageshack.us%2Fimg128%2F2375%2Fslopefarmtu8.jpg&hash=371566b1c81b084c64cbfb73e617baf229290b14)
It seems that there are no more foundation props to go with any other barns, so I guess it's up to someone with bat knowledge to make more ::)
hey nice lots.
I've never worked with foundations before but i'm sure there must be some info on how to do that. It really can't be much more than a textured box....hmmm
Prolly by rendering it underneath the base line (don't know which of x,y,z). Yes, it could be done but then I would have do know the size of the barn I would make a foundation for, and that's where the problem arise. So, I guess I would have to make a barn then :P
Well, the problem has been solved. Jmyers is making several slope conforming barns, which hopefully will be released in the near future. That means I can do a series of farm lots. Since there's already a slope conforming barn available, the first lot will be released in a couple of days.
Great to hear meta!....
As a side point i remember teaching you how to bat a box over chat at one point a couple years back. And you were successful.....you didn't give up did you??
Hello Metasmurf
Fraserwood Christmas Tree farm... hmmm.
The original models for the Fraserwood farm building were made into props. The growable building is invisible. I did that so that I could have a steady platform for applying seasonal christmas lights and a merry christmas banner to the front of the building. Basically, props react differently to terrain than buildings do.
I think your application is slightly different than my original idea which is the reason for the funny gray area between the base of the building and the top of the foundation.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi148.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs26%2Fjmyers2043%2Ffraserwood01.jpg&hash=b8d4f6ac4142c10cdce80897a81ba1356356142b)
Give me a couple of days and I'll make you a proper growable building and foundation for you. It will look a lot better.
At the same time I'll do a tutorial on how to make foundations. I tried to do foundations a couple years ago then stopped because it was very exasperating. :'( :bomb: I've learned a few things (trial and error) and can finish them quickly now.
Good Luck on your new farm lots :)
Looks like I am bumping the thread here :D
Here is a proper building and foundation.

Good luck with the rest of your project.
Splendid! Thank you so much Jmyers!
Smurf this is looking real great here and too see Jim stepping up without a problem that is awesome to give you the boost to finish off the barns!! You know what??? That is what makes this community so great where members help each other out!!!
Great job to you both
Definitely agree with that Pat :)
Anyway I got the basic design up, unless there are any objections.

Not sure about the placement of the silo, as I don't know where they're usually placed in real life :P Any other suggestions on what I could add to the lot? (except for flora).
Also, I'm not sure about the threshold settings, not sure what value I should put there.
Hey meta that looks great.
As for the silo...usually the main consideration is elevation in real life, gotta keep that grain dry afterall, then second would be accessibility.
My only constructive criticism would be the uniformity of the lot textures, ie no track marks in the dirt. Otherwise the setup is quite authentic.
Keep up the good work.
Bud.
If ya need me i'll be in the back forty with a chicken, a case of beer and a horse with no name! woot! %BUd%
Very good work, and I like the underpinnings
This most be some of the nicest farms i seen created for a very long time. It really reminds me of the farms around my place.
BUT... Isnt the barn a little oversized compared to the house? I'm just trying to think how the man standing at the barn door would be able to walk in the door to the house.
