Title: This is driving me crazy!!!
Post by: WalkerBD1 on September 28, 2010, 10:04:43 PM
I'ne been haveing fun playing SC4 and even adding some custom content without any problems what so ever.  However, just today I started the game up and it just stayed at a black screen.  When I check on task manger it said: GDriverWindow--DirectX    Not Responding.  I haven't been able to find any fixes for this.  Hopefully someone in this great community has some helpful ideas.  Thanks in advance for any help.

have you added any custom content lately?
how long did you wait? And did you switch windows while SC4 was loading? (this takes CPU power away from the game and gives it back to windows and other programs, so it loads much slower)
How big is your plugins folder and how much RAM is in your PC?

If it said "Not Responding" in task manager, thats what mine says when i switch windows while its loading, and it takes like 5 minutes to come back and load...

There are a lot of reasons this could happen, we really need more information to be able to help you :)

Does SimCity4 work without any plugins?  Startup gets slower and slower as more plugins are added.

I had a problem like this and the issue was hardware drivers.  I still can't say I know what fixed it, as the indicating problem still exists (I can't disable my LAN), but SC4 works.

The first step I took was open the "run" command and type in "dxdiag".  This is the DirectX Diagnostic Tool.  You don't need to be connected to the internet.  Under the "display" tab there are three indicators: Draw, 3d, AGP texture.  These should be enabled.  Here is a link about dxdiag. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Run-DirectX-Diagnostic-Tool (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Run-DirectX-Diagnostic-Tool)

My problem was that Draw was disabled and could not be enabled.  After a bunch of interneting I found that my MotherBoard is a piece, and the issue had nothing to do with SC4 or DirectX.  For me a third party MoBo driver was required.  Good luck.  It took me a long time and many BSOD to fix this, but I understand my computer much better.

As Travismking says, we would need to know your specs to really get into this.

How many things do you have in your SC4 Plugins folder.. because if you have lots, SC4 does take a lot longer to load (it takes 5 minutes on my laptop, which is a powerful one).
Yep, also it would be good if you give us your specs so we dig deeper into the 'mystery'...

CC doesn't slow down the game. The more and more you cram on to there, the longer it takes to load. Try removing some or all of it. And like the others said, we are going to need some basic information on your computer, which can be found by going to the start menu, right click my computer, click properties.

My game takes around 4-5 minutes to load. One way to avoid it though is to get a SSD
