I've spent the last couple of hours browsing this site and downloading Dep's and I had a question would it be safe to assume that if I download every Dep on Simgoobers Dependency List that I could safely download any Plugin Supporting the BSC logo(and install to the correct flie location) that it will work correctly without having to chase down any further Dep?
I apologize if this question has already been answered before but I have not seen it will browsing the forum.
On a side note I would like to say thank you to all of you who have spent years designning all this custom content for new users like myself to enjoy &apls.. Seriously browsing this site is like christmas shopping for the game. You know if this was a facebook app you guys would be freaking rich from all the custom buildings you could charge money to release.
thanks again!
(I apologize I think I should of put this is the newbie section instead of here, but I cant delete the post.. &hlp)
Hello sagek,
Welcome to the site and I hope you enjoy yourself while you are here.
The BSC is a much larger group of members than just Simgoober. Your best bet would be to just take your time when down loading the files that you want and collect the depencies as you go. Eventually it will become easier and easier as you will already have the needed dependencies. There are alot of complaints out there about the number of dependencies, but I for one can tell you that I have just about every dependency out there in my plugin file.
You could always go to the top of the page here....you see the button taht says, "boxes"? Click on that and it will take you to another screen with a Master List of all the dependecies out up to the date that the list was updated.
I hope I have helped you. Just remember to take your time when downloading. Besides actually playing the game that is the next most important part of the game.
I hope to see you around in other threads,
Robin
Hey so while I have an open line of communication whats the story with this Forum? It looks like it's been around for a long time is this ran by people affiliated with the EA/Maxis people or is this purely done as a fan site?
are the forums usually active?
SC4Devotion is run purely as a fan site. The forums are more or less active all the time although there are periods when it all goes quiet. ;D
Wow.. well I am glad there are fans out there willing to spend the time on things like this. I can say at least for myself if it wasn't for people taking the time I might not have kept my interest in the game as long as I have.
I have to ask tho what does BSC stand for? as well as LEX?
Are these teams... or maybe gangs?? &Thk/(
so what part of the forum usually is the most active?
LEX just means Lot EXchange, a part of the site where BATs (new buildings) and lots can be downloaded.
I can't really tell you what BSC stands for, because I simply do not know, what I can tell you is that BSC is (in my opinion) one of the best BAT/LOT/MOD teams out there.
As for your question about the most active part of the forum, it really depends, but in general, the NAM board, the Forum Games, the Picture competition and the Show us your... topics are some of the most active
I hope I've helped you ;)
Xander
Oh you're in a different team as well. interesting.. So do the teams ever compete for the best mod? You know like battle it out in the back alley for dominance over the SC4 community? That would be fun..
So another question comes to mind if I start going to other sites and checking out their Mods.. Would this be a cause for concern for things like Conflicts or is there a standard everyone goes by when making the mods so as to not create conflicts?
Thank you all for the answers!

BSC stands for
Bat
Squad
Certificate, an old name that nobody uses anymore... ::)
Even if we're a bunch of lunatics who often work together on common projects and goals, we're not a team like most other teams.
As the name suggests, we not only produce quality game assets ourselves, we also help others to do the same.
To the end user this is most obvious with the LEX (Lot Exchange),
where everything uploaded has been created according to BSC guidelines, and is thus BSCertified.
In other words, everything available on the LEX will work as intended and won't unbalance the game. :)
Ahh great to know! thank you for that.
So have the group been around since the SC4 was made or has it been longer?
BSC was started in April 2004, shortly after B.A.T. was released in February 2004.
In other words, BSC is about a year younger than the original SC4 game.
Very cool, I'm glad I was able to find a group that has been around for a while. Thanks for the answers.
Hey I had a another question that maybe you can help me with I keep seeing these dependency list and I am tempted to download everything on them in the hopes that it will allow me to play my game with out plugin issues. Is this the wrong type of thinking? Should I be more selective with what I download?
Better download only what you need, otherwise your game will slow down to a crawl. Install the BATs and lots that you really like, and check the readme file for each one in order to get all dependencies. If you can't remember them by heart, make a list of what you installed already, then it should be easy to keep track of everything.
WELL... tempering your first downloading sprees can save some headaches in the long run.. ( there truly are no short cuts in life.. or SC4)
If you take a look at this thread (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=3204.0), it'll give you an idea of the quality you can find at SC4 Devotion/BSC Exchange aka LEX.
At the other sites, take the time to read the comments for the downloads... you'll soon learn who's work you can "trust"...
If you're like me, you'll need 'most' of the dependencies.. I have +3800 'files' in my plugins folder... but it has taken over 3 years to accumulate.
There are some great tools for organizing your plugins... I like DR Rorlach's Download & Installation Catalogue (http://sc4tools.co.uk/sc4t_downloads.asp) which combines Wouanagaine's SC4DatPacker (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=4051.0) and BSC'S Cleanitol (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=3795.0).
After your 'Parks' menu gets too full you might want to take a look at Stefan79's SSPTool (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=6818.0) and Daeleys' DAMN (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=2917.0)... (you can find most of these with a quick custom search on the BSC Exchange/LEX)
Pay attention to the date of the 'download'... many earlier dependencies have been merged into 'Mega' packs...
..so that's my advice..
best part about the SC4 community is the help that's available... just have to ask!
Ahh thank you for that advice it is much appreciated. Hey through my browsing I noticed I didnt see anything like a Thread dealing with Known Conflicts and such, Is there one that anyone knows of I could look at?
No, there's no such thread listing all conflicts out there...
In best cases (a minority of those available elsewhere than on the LEX though),
such conflicts are listed in the readme of the mod(s)...
However, there are a few things worth mentioning...
Avoid these traps, and you'll be happier in the long run. ;)
- In order to avoid the Phantom Funding Sliders Bug (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=10660.0), avoid all ploppable civic buildings (shools, hospitals, police stations) that you suspect would replace ingame such buildings.
- In order to avoid the Immortal Lot Syndrome (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=10434.0), carefully read the comments to any download to see if someone would have complained about it.
- In order to avoid the Prop Pox (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=7066.0), avoid installing Peg's beach pack, BDK (Beach Development Kit).
- If you're using AC Functional Airports (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?board=240.0), be sure not to install any other functional airports (from STEX), or v/v.
- If you're using BSC Functional Seaports (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?board=241.0), be sure not to install any other functional seaports (from PLEX), or v/v.
- If you're using CAM, be sure to read CAM - inCAMpatible Mods (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=1925.0).
- If you're using a terrain mod, be sure to use only one, and be sure to thoroughly read the readme and make sure you've got all dependencies.
(That is twice today that I type too slow :))
RippleJet explains very well.
Every mod has a "TGI". A TGI is basically a set of three values/numbers that act like a fingerprint.
Custom Content like buildings, roads (NAM), and trees are all given TGIs based on the Instance (the I of TGI) that they were created. There are about 4 billion possible Instances, so there isn't much to worry about there (other than the prop-pox link that RippleJet provided).
Game play mods like CAM, Functional Airports/Seaports, and terrain mods are different. In cases like these there is a specific TGI that SC4 is looking for. Terrain mods use one TGI, and therefore you can only have one Terrain mod. They are not "conflicting" per say, but it's more like they override each other.
You guys are Beautiful Thank you very much!!
Hi again,
Another quick question.. Should I be paying attention to the order when installing plugins like if I install plug in vol02 before vol01 would this create an issue?
Nope.
The only thing to worry about is the Cleanitall. As people made more and more models it became best to make one MEGA pack with many models in it. A cleanitall file will basically tell you which models are in the MEGA pack that you may have downloaded singularly. The file can actually be opened with Cleanitall (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?board=126.0) which will remove files for you :)
The mega packs reached a size limit for downloading, and so we have Vol 1,2,3...
Hello, Another question. I'm trying to Find teh •PEG_Hydro-Dam_205 it's a Dep for the CSX Powerplant Gas Depot required for the BSC seaport and I cant seem to find this on Peg site anyone able to help me out?
sagek- the Hydro damn can be found here on the PLEX (http://www.simpeg.com/forum/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=83), or here on the STEX (http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=11212).
It was in the PLEX, under "PEG Utility Lots".
Adrian.
Good looking out!
Thank you for that!
Do I need to have all of Peg deps in order to make the Hydro dam work in the BSC Functional seaport?
