I am going through the exemplars that control desirability, and among them I found a "use monopoly pieces" entry 0x87cd6381:
- Use Real Buildings Only
- Use Real if Available
- Use Monopoly Buildings Only
It is set to the first by default, but what does this entry even do?
Maybe if set to 'use monopoly buildings only' the only thing that grows in your city are green houses and red hotels? $%Grinno$%

Lol WCC_EEND $%Grinno$%. The accual definition is
"1. Exclusive control by one group of the means of producing or selling a commodity or service: "Monopoly frequently ... arises from government support or from collusive agreements among individuals" (Milton Friedman).
2. Law A right granted by a government giving exclusive control over a specified commercial activity to a single party.
3.
a. A company or group having exclusive control over a commercial activity.
b. A commodity or service so controlled.
4.
a. Exclusive possession or control: arrogantly claims to have a monopoly on the truth.
b. Something that is exclusively possessed or controlled: showed that scientific achievement is not a male monopoly."
the highlighted one made me think of building like "Brink Real Estate" popping up all over my downtowns ;D
But please could someone come in here with a real answer
@WC_EEND: We can only hope!
I have seen this property around, never played with it myself. I dont think there would be anything wrong with setting it to true and seeing what happens.
Can someone try? It is under the "Developer" category in SimCity_1.dat. I deleted the entry from my desirability mod, so I would have to re-filter the original 1.dat - a very long and slow process.
If functional in any way, this property is most likely connected with the building exemplar property "Monopoly Piece".
Within SimCity1.dat this property is set only for a few landmarks (with the value 0=False) and for the farm field building exemplars (with the value 1=True).
Perhaps it has something to do with them "standing in" for other models...perhaps as a pre-rendering step (akin to LODs of 3D models in other games)?
Or perhaps it is connected to the farms' unique lot size plasticity?
