As part of my CAM installation, I installed the "Promote Walking" plug-in. So now, my city has reached a population of about 110,000. I built bus stations and a subway to get people from R to I, and C, but hardly anyone used the subway to get "downtown," so I had to demolish it. The bus system usage is OK, but certainly not something to brag about.
It seemed that only the C areas close enough (right next) to R were getting commuters. But, I have a whole section of downtown where I "hover query" buildings, and they say "workers none." Sure enough, when I "Route Query" the building, no one is going there, even if that building is right next to a bus stop on one of the main arteries. This section is only a few more tiles away from the R sections. The city planner adviser keeps bugging me to zone for C, but there's a whole section of downtown that is zoned, manicured (park amenities) but not developing.
Another thing is absolutely no one is using my railroads. I built this really nice Central Railroad complex downtown to get people to a neighboring city that has industrial jobs, and no one is using it. This station is linked to the bus system, and is close to a mid-high density residential area.
The nice thing is that my pedestrian traffic is a lot higher than bus, and car, so my streets are not congested at all except for a couple of bottlenecks that I'm working on fixing the next time I play.
So, my questions are:
Is the purpose of the plug-in to build very compact (yet dense) cities?
What then, is the strategy for getting workers from a large city like this one to the industrial park in the neighboring city?
This is the first city I play with CAM, so I have definitely noticed that it requires a different way of approaching the game. I just would like to hear some suggestions.
I understand Korot has helped you with this already in connection with the functional airports. ;)
It is indeed recommended that you do not install the traffic plugins that come with CAM,
but instead rely on whatever traffic plugin you installed with the latest NAM.

Yeah, I should probably delete this topic?
I read through a couple of other CAM-related threads mentioning similar situations (though they didn't think of the traffic plugin), and then Korot confirmed what I suspected. I've made the necessary changes in my Plugins folder. I haven't played the game yet to test it out.
