Wouldn't really say so, it's the SC4 standard houses that are scaled all over the place, some of them are like doll houses, i followed the normal sc4 heigh scale and everything.

I know what you mean about the farms, there are not that many European ones either. For Norway you could probably use some of the wooden Amercian ones, they look kinda similar.

I can almost smell the pines. It is nice to see a touch of Scandinavia here. I love scandinavia. I have been to Finland, Norway, Sweden, and Denmark. I can't tell you which I prefer.
About the farms. some american farmsavailable are red with white decorations. not the same but quite similar to Scandinavian ones. I guess.

Glenni, this CJ is shaping up pretty nicely! I love the mix of BATs, and I love the placement of your diagonal buildings to make a "crowded downtown" type feel.
Are those wildflowers everywhere in that last update? I don't quite like them because they look blocky, but maybe that's just me. Everything else is awesome!

Wonderful stuff. You are a master of low wealth areas. You have truely understood the amount of wasted space that is needed to make those kind of "scandinavian" suburbs look realistic. All of those "ghettos" (as you call them) built in the 1960s are very oddly planned. It's like someone said "Hey, why not build ten highrises in the middle of the forest and then nothing more..."¨

Also the highrise blocks in the middle of nowhere are pretty typical, not only in scandinavia but also here in germany, whole new city parts have been built that way and today they are decaying since no one wants to live there anymore. ;D

Anyway, a common sight among Norwegian countryroads. Bottleneck areas of the road, where it hasn't been upgraded to two lane nor wide enough to have stripes. no sidewalk either, that's what the road is for, mixed use.

Well.It's a road texture mod. First it was a mod Teirusu ( at ST) posted as a BETA in the ST forums. Though after the update site update from v4 to v5 it was gone, fortunately Swamper77 still had it. so he sent it to me. I have it loaded up on Filefront.com if anyone wants it. The wreck of a cargo ship which sunk in 1965.
They needed pilots to pass that narrow place earlier. Now it's mostly closed for ship traffic, mainly because of the bridge blocking the path, in 8/9/1965 the ruther for the ship malfunctioned, and it headed straight into the rocks. Thankfully the whole crew survived.

It's Basically connected to Nybergsund by a ferry.

In the 1900's to 1970's this town was overpopulated for it's size, even in smaller 4 family homes, to today's standard there would live over 40 people! In the 1960's 39000 people lived there, now just 20000.

The town is now rather poor, mostly populated by immigrants from Africa, Eastern Europe and the Middle East Asia, who can't afford to live in Lavanger or Vandals Fjella city areas because of the high property prices.

As you can, there's roads from all times here, The double lane road replaced the old 1/5 lane road in 1965
Before that you had to either use the 1/5 lane road, or the very narrow 1 lane road leading into the town.
The 1 lane road is old. Even older than the town itself. it even dates back to year 800. When this town used to be a very important trading spot, in the viking era, though those are long gone times, now the town is just mostly popular among tourists and people from the Lavanger or Vandals Fjella urban area who are after having a good time at the local pubs, buy some fresh poatotes, strawberries, or other things on the local outdoor market, it sure is a break from the usual supermarket. The oldest houses there date back to the 1700's.

This farm here often left in the shadows of the mountain , is called Granlia , it's not always in the dark, but sometimes get the shadows from the mountain, at times like this, it's like a portal between night and day there.

Apple Plantations such as these as you see up in the picture, are quite common in the countryside here, this one is rather small, but just wait till you see the fruit and apple plantations further along the fjords!

Some of it was set on fire by a pyromaniac in the 1960's, so it has later on been replaced by newer buildings. The newest from 1995, those are the rowhomes.

From the opposite view, you got the small streets lined with small houses , and also a small patch of asphalt for truckers to park their trucks to get some sleep.

From the bottom; the historic parts, this is the oldest part of town ,This is where it get's lively in the summer times at night, where young people from the cities come for a visit and sometimes go on a complete wrecking tour.

And here you can see the historic part from the top, the newer buildings aren't at all as popular as the old ones.
It's actually where the lower wealth businesses are, like kebab places, second hand shops, and even seedy types.

Just 50 metres away from the little cluster of houses, there's the town's local memorial for world war 2, it's a house that got bombed because that a bunch of Jewish people hid there, and one of the local tailors ratted them out and told the Germans. For a sum of $40 to todays current rates, over 30 people lost their lives because of that man.

Not quite an update, but here's some pics showing what i'm working on now, i'm mostly trying to develop the hills and mountains surrounding the city( suburbs mostly). I've also been batting for days to make stuff for my cj, such as Norwegian/Scandinavian grocery stores, schools, houses , apartments, wall to wall buildings...

At the moment, it looks kinda crappy, it looks like two completely separate cities, i'm trying to connect them with roads , houses and streets, but it's taking a lot of time. So this is what i got so far.

The usual fine work here, Glenni. You're almost too critical of yourself- even in the stuff that needs work, there's gold to be found. VF remains a singular work and your vision unique. This is a great MD to end a long day with- the apparent time and care you spend working on it is very comforting, somehow.

So.. It had to happen again... Once again i am redoing some of Vandals Fjella ( The city itself this time)
Prepo's new diogonal buildings are just brilliant, and was exactly what i needed to redo the city. ( As you can also see i still use my own, no offense to Prepo, Krio, or any others who made diagonal buildings, but because of the simple shape of my building, they are easier to use in places where you don't have any buildings working at the moment.)
And just so you know, the city is now WIP (Work In Progress) so of couse there is a lot of empty space, but atleast here you can somewhat see what i am doing.
Here's an overview, i decided to keep the Oslo Plaza look alike (the blue highrise) , the trainstation and some other areas, allthough i got rid of mcuh of the hills and expanded the flatter land, making room for the city, as not even Oslo has such little space as Vandals fjella seems to have..

Seriously this is great work, though I would like to see more than few parts of the city. Low wealth parts are the best in this update, though small, they are something you rarely see on MD.

Yes i did, but i'd rather not, it would require me to re do the entire layout of the city, as then they would run though the palace, and through the main street....

Very awesome. I agree with El Burro about suburban diagonals. Overviews reminds me about Qaddro's capital city. Maybe its those W2W bats and their "brown" colouring. &Thk/(
You have to love how the diagonals break up the otherwise griddy city. Really makes it alot more visually pleasing. The diagonal suburbs are also awesome, see your having fun with those GC props :P

It takes some time with this city, just all the custom lotting alone does take much time. In addition school takes some time. But as you all probably know, what steals most of my SC4 time is BAT. &mmm

Got some news for ya...
My desktop PC (the one that i BAT and play SC4 on is dead, it won't start, all i get is a messagethat one of the Windows System files are damaged, and i should reinstall Windows XP, but won't that just wipe everything i had on the computer? So for now, this MD is dead , as is my BATting. :'(
All i got now is this crappy laptop, but that won't do well for SC4, BATting, or anything related to that.
That is bad news. Hope you find a way to recover your data.
I had a problem like that once. I bought a new HD on which I installed windows on.
Then I connected the old hd as well and got the data out of it.
Well i do have this laptop i could store the stuff on, would that work?
That might work...
By the way, you can do a repair install and not lose anything... but back it up just in case.

Great news, folks! Vandals fjella, all my sc4 stuff + 3dsmax and GMAX is backed up, and copied onto this new pc.
I will sometimes continue to work on Vandals Fjella, but i am also starting a second MD, do not close this one though, moderators, i want to keep both, it should be possibly for these MDs to coexist, what this new MD is, you'll see when i start it. It will remain a surprise to you for now.
