Title: game time advancing very slow
Post by: j3r3 on December 10, 2010, 01:36:35 PM
Hey

Does anybody know why my game time (date, year) advances very slow or even at all eventhough I click the maximum speed?
The problem appears when I have zoned a large zone with residental area.
Thanks in advance

If you have a slow computer, you can't do anything about it, but it might be your city population.

I have this problem on a few of my cities. It's probably mostly related to the size and the calculations the different simulators have to do.

A more powerful computer can help, but it usually does not fix the problem.

I can attest to this, especially when you have a big city both land and populationwise. I find that turning the autonoma setting to medium really helps with this, because sometimes you just have so much traffic that it can really bog things down. The computer specs play a role, but I'm using my 2.2ghz Core 2 Duo with a Geforce 8600, so I can't say it's the equipment.

One last thing. If you haven't yet, shadows are a real killer, and you should set them to low. If you have a lower end computer, lowering the visual effects will help you out as well, but being that I have a nice laptop, I can run everything but shadows and autonoma on high. That's all that really helped me; the other settings did little to nothing in terms of game performance

Hope that helps. If all else fails, go to Software rendering. It won't look pretty, but it really give you a boost in FPS.
