Title: Is it possible to remove ingame civics, schools, utilities, landmarks, etc?
Post by: pepsibottle1 on December 12, 2010, 07:15:10 AM
Just a quickie question. I want to remove some of the existing in-game utilities, civic, reward and landmark buildings since I have custom content that pretty much replaces the need for having the original stuff (ex: SG's Schools and Hospitials, powerplants with more realistic figures, etc.). Is it possible to do this, and if so, how? I do have the Ilive reader but I wanted to come and ask here first before i go deleting stuff willy-nilly. Sorry if this is in the wrong section, I wasn't sure where to place this thread.

Anywho, thanks for making a great game better!

I think there's a mod on the STEX that removes all Maxis landmarks. Maybe downloading it and opening it in the Reader will help you :)

I'd like to remove stuff like the original hospitials, schools, powerplants and rewards as well. Can I do that as well? I'm not really proficent in the workings of the reader and I'm afraid I'll delete something and screw up my dat file.

Found that mod you mentioned. Thanks for mentioning that! That solves one part of my dilemma.

Here's the link if anyone's interested : http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=11031

It looks like this mod is a copy of all of the Landmarks, but with their "Item Order" removed.  This property defines what order they appear in the menu, so without it they don't.  You can certainly do this for every other building.

I guess there are two ways to do this, the safe way (like this mod), or willy-nilly.

The safe way would be to open SimCity_1.dat in Reader.  I would recommend not "filling the list", but using the analyzer tool to search for the buildings, and then right click and "sync with ?".  Then the opening screen will be the plopables, and you would copy/paste them into a new file.  This new file will be modded, and this way you can avoid changing SimCity_1.dat
So, you open your mod in reader, and once again click on the analyzer tool, and search.  Then you click on one of the property searches (in my case it is the one with just a magnifying glass, I use the older, LEX, version).  Find "Item Order" in this list and click "find."  The list that is made is all of the "Item Order" properties that exist in your mod, and they can be deleted.

Willy-Nilly is much faster, but just make sure to back up your SimCity_1.dat before you mess with it.  You can basically do the second paragraph to SimCity_1.dat.
