Hi! :-)
After several months in which I have only been a guest here I decided to register and post some pictures of my current city here as well. I have seen many great pictures here so I hope that my pictures are appropriate for this forum.
Before I start showing some pictures, I wanted to provide you with some information concerning my cities:
1. My aim was/is to build a huge town that has a European look.
2. I am not interested in building a city that is properly planned; that means that I do not care about a perfectly constructed street or public transport system.
3. I did not try to rebuild a town that really exists. Nevertheless I wanted to implement some famous places of Berlin, my most favourite town. Perhaps you will recognise them.
I think that's enough for the moment...let the show begin!!
1.1. Every large city needs parks and areas to find some rest. Hemsbach has a very large park that was influenced by Berlins Tiergarten ... in this picture, you can see the great intersection in the middle of the park with the famous Siegessäule in its centre.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg2.imagebanana.com%2Fimg%2F192l5mgi%2Fcapture_16102010_205027.jpg&hash=656e4ceb34f1f4f8c8d9268c310c7c776f5c5a88) (http://www.imagebanana.com/)
1.2. The park also includes a small lake...doesn't it look nice?
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg2.imagebanana.com%2Fimg%2Fqtvlwpc8%2Fcapture_06122010_210021.jpg&hash=153c026f1b752fe8ab4767c7e57c5c58a53a7897) (http://www.imagebanana.com/)
1.3. This picture is supposed to give you an idea about the dimensions of the park.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg2.imagebanana.com%2Fimg%2Fo53d250n%2Fcapture_12102010_164357.jpg&hash=c12d2558be92210c97e01a6e092804c1b9653803) (http://www.imagebanana.com/)
1.4. Let's have a look at the city centre. This is the main station and the surrounding area.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg2.imagebanana.com%2Fimg%2Fke18jhky%2Fcapture_12102010_163807.jpg&hash=68087bb4e1165eb4448addd896040c31799d913b) (http://www.imagebanana.com/)
1.5. Another view of the main station with its tracks.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg2.imagebanana.com%2Fimg%2Fakjr8glb%2Fcapture_31102010_130523.jpg&hash=6bf08b97dc63317c5b3c04df222524753b0e887d) (http://www.imagebanana.com/)
1.6. An overview of a part of the historical city centre.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg2.imagebanana.com%2Fimg%2Fckdlpfml%2Fcapture_31102010_131621.jpg&hash=32c7de887fa2bc6f01d3385d2ccfff2c4fc757f5) (http://www.imagebanana.com/)
1.7. A second overview of the city centre, which looks here more modern due to the skyscrapers.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg2.imagebanana.com%2Fimg%2Fgxa9nhr2%2Fcapture_31102010_131734.jpg&hash=62412f6666b4d8436991dcf85951b44a106fca17) (http://www.imagebanana.com/)
1.8. This picture is also heavily inspired by Berlin. This is Hemsbach's version of the Gendarmenmarkt in Berlin Mitte.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg2.imagebanana.com%2Fimg%2Fnnvv5unx%2Fcapture_30082010_183947.jpg&hash=3b4c47ca3798891c717abbdb95a20c6a9952f88a) (http://www.imagebanana.com/)
1.9. The next famous Berlin place that I tried to implement in my town is my version of the Alexanderplatz with the TV Tower and the Park Inn Hotel.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg2.imagebanana.com%2Fimg%2Fvjw200on%2Fcapture_12102010_163844.jpg&hash=ef962e809700a3e0946b585ef61dd34beb9da8be) (http://www.imagebanana.com/)
1.10. Hemsbach isn't located at the sea but there is nevertheless some water; here you can see some part of the channel that crosses the city.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg2.imagebanana.com%2Fimg%2Ffwb8bnxf%2Fcapture_12102010_164418.jpg&hash=618c915c5ddce1598f75666be14482df364a5c6b) (http://www.imagebanana.com/)
1.11. Again: the channel!
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg2.imagebanana.com%2Fimg%2Fm01hqrcn%2Fcapture_12102010_163446.jpg&hash=8c191593111c7d048223b2a7ffacb9486c5a46f2) (http://www.imagebanana.com/)
1.12. The last picture I want to include in this first part of my major diary is an overview of Hemsbach...this picture has been taken more than two months ago and many things have changed in Hemsbach since then...you will get another overview in the next update. I just wanted to give you an idea of how the whole city looks like.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg2.imagebanana.com%2Fimg%2Fnpa440gj%2Fcapture_12102010_172025.jpg&hash=975cd4edf559fcc3053fdcb6e4dc4114c250fafb) (http://www.imagebanana.com/)
This was the first update of Hemsbach. I hope that you liked some of the pictures I've posted here so far and I'm looking forward to your replies and comments, no matter whether they are positive or negative.
Great start. You have a very nice intersection on the first pic. Really like your european style. Keep on the good work
lovely, everything is falling in place. keep up the good work.
Thats a great start to whats looking to be like a fantastic CJ!
I kind of compare your city to Frankfurt, in that it has that mixture of modern to go with the old school European feel.
You did a great job mixing the old with the new!
That train station is amazing!
Absolutely fantastic start ! I must say I loved this first update and the whole looking city. The skyscrapers fits with the W2Ws very well.
Hey!
Thank you very much for the first comments, I was really happy when I read them!
@nedalezz: You are right, the city looks a little bit like Frankfurt. I didn't plan it that way but I was happy nevertheless when the first skyscrapers started to grow and so I decided to mix old W2W buildings with these modern-looking commercial buildings.
Anyway, I decided to show you some more pictures...
2.1. First of all: I love squares and plazas and wanted to build many of them in my old city centre. Some of them were changed by me in the lot editor, but most of them remained unchanged. The first picture shows a small plaza next to the old town hall; the surrounding area is dominated by residential buildings.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg5.imagebanana.com%2Fimg%2F40arbih6%2Fcapture_12102010_164339.jpg&hash=6d08d4cfc445e94814d1aad3b9e039217b607745) (http://www.imagebanana.com/)
2.2. The second square is called "Two Riders Square" ... there is no lot editor work involved, I designed this square by combining some smaller lots and I'm really happy with the final design. What do you think about it?
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg5.imagebanana.com%2Fimg%2Fmyx5n1u7%2Fcapture_15102010_150102.jpg&hash=48c64d384b86cba5ea0e910ff07f1ed04c60ca96) (http://www.imagebanana.com/)
2.3. Another small square, surrounded by some various old buildings.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg5.imagebanana.com%2Fimg%2F8vcrw7g0%2Fcapture_16102010_202429.jpg&hash=a594e79047b448e8a7ecd915590a1cc66be08975) (http://www.imagebanana.com/)
2.4. I used the lot editor to design this one. It's nothing special, though, just a small plaza with a statue in its centre.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg5.imagebanana.com%2Fimg%2F8d0xie1w%2Fcapture_16102010_202406.jpg&hash=3685a49d143abc90a6145f74cd3db0ed439cfdd8) (http://www.imagebanana.com/)
2.5. Another square, this time a more modern-looking one.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg5.imagebanana.com%2Fimg%2Fu4jdipq6%2Fcapture_16102010_202820.jpg&hash=712f1aa6f3a6c13f2d6a543be256919a209186ab) (http://www.imagebanana.com/)
As it's very late in Germany (1.30 am) and as I'm very tired, I'll stop here ....more pictures will be shown here soon. So...stay tuned :-)
I'm looking forward to your answers!
I´m happy to see your work also here at sc4devotion. Nice to see that your city got a name as well, allthough the german title was/is really funny. :D
I really like your plazas, because they vary a lot. Also your BAT selection is fine. I´m looking forward to see more!

Simcitler
Very great plazas there, I quite liked a lot the "Two Riders Square" I find it extremely beautiful. Also the one you made in the Lot Editor was very nice... although you'd better use fences such as Glenni's to circle the grassy areas. Anyway all of them are looking great !
Take care,
-Arthur.
Awesome start, and fantastic plazas!!!
Happy new year!!!
Hi!
Thank you again for your kind comments.
@Simcitler: I've been thinking about a proper name for a long time....but while writing the first post here I realized that I don't have any creativity concerning the naming of towns. So I decided to use the name of my hometown ;-)
@art128: Thank you. I'm not really used to working with the Lot Editor...actually, this is the first town I build in which some customised lots appear.
I like the white fences, though and as they are extremely rare in Hemsbach I decided to use them.
@Tomas Neto: Thank you as well :-)

3.1 As I'm aware of the fact that promises should be kept, the first picture of the third update shows an overview of Hemsbach. I included one in the first update but there is a need for a current one:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg5.imagebanana.com%2Fimg%2Fm8l7jop5%2Fcapture_29122010_165450.jpg&hash=c579bf027bea67b7920f098152085a8ef47dcf28) (http://www.imagebanana.com/)
I think that you can clearly see how Hemsbach has been developing over the last few weeks.
3.2. Let's have a look at some more detailed scenes...This pictures shows the tunnel below the main station's tracks. As there are so many of them I thought that such a tunnel would be more effective than a bridge.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg5.imagebanana.com%2Fimg%2Fvxau50wz%2Fcapture_30122010_124700.jpg&hash=a6fa40e7a80610377c3146f95178f53cbba5e145) (http://www.imagebanana.com/)
3.3. Et voila....this is the other tunnel entrance/exit.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg5.imagebanana.com%2Fimg%2Fz3uzjbrw%2Fcapture_13102010_104111.jpg&hash=fa6833225add9014683f98aa62e26da1482054ff) (http://www.imagebanana.com/)
3.4. A huge city like Hemsbach needs more than one station. This is why I built this one: The East Station. Many people use it and the other stops in the surrounding area to get to their working place.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg5.imagebanana.com%2Fimg%2F2jlricim%2Fcapture_12102010_164012.jpg&hash=94d6e9759659af044ffae333e50d583c0f39ad7b) (http://www.imagebanana.com/)
3.5. A second shot of the station.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg5.imagebanana.com%2Fimg%2Faruoi60a%2Fcapture_30122010_133508.jpg&hash=6b4457f035a2cb9b32ecd30deeca673cd3fa3292) (http://www.imagebanana.com/)
3.6. The following three pictures are supposed to show you how and where many of the inhabitants live...
Flats, flats, flats...
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg5.imagebanana.com%2Fimg%2F5b0nw0l7%2Fcapture_30122010_133616.jpg&hash=eff7af797833c0bab02c939d50901c762d036305) (http://www.imagebanana.com/)
3.7. More flats...
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg5.imagebanana.com%2Fimg%2Fpjsa3dg8%2Fcapture_30122010_135116.jpg&hash=3a1a237aa59fe29742e0eda7949c2c41b8790c13) (http://www.imagebanana.com/)
3.8. And yes, there are even more flats. At the moment, approximately 500,000 inhabitants live in Hemsbach....they all need a place to live.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg5.imagebanana.com%2Fimg%2Fhfgi36n4%2Fcapture_30122010_135550.jpg&hash=e0fa1c1094b89c1de3b6666e169e86260490bc6f) (http://www.imagebanana.com/)
3.9. Let's go back to the city centre...the next pictures again shows how modern and historical buildings have been combined throughout the years.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg5.imagebanana.com%2Fimg%2Fe8qh9p4x%2Fcapture_30122010_135929.jpg&hash=01df21800f91213cc350e4b851d015bca4c04f8f) (http://www.imagebanana.com/)
3.10. This is also illustrated in this picture. You can see the old opera building, a rather small palace, the church of St. Maria and the old hotel building - nevertheless, there is a huge skyscraper in the foreground.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg5.imagebanana.com%2Fimg%2F5pd115nh%2Fcapture_30122010_125113.jpg&hash=3ff64180ab4fa21e7819b73400ed07880516a7c2) (http://www.imagebanana.com/)
3.11. The third update will be completed by a picture that shows you Hemsbach's historical Town Hall. It is surrounded by parks and public gardens and - of course - there has to be a Town Hall Square.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg5.imagebanana.com%2Fimg%2F2lhe4cy1%2Fcapture_30122010_135625.jpg&hash=cff0afe38a78792f4a3bdf46c2029e7799345aaf) (http://www.imagebanana.com/)
I hope you like the new pictures and - as always - I'm looking forward to any comments.
Happy New Year!
I liked a lot of the canals, the railroads and the suburbs, too!!! Another great update!!!
What a great start of your MD! Fantastic work, you really have succeeded in making a realistic Euro-city!
Excellent update once again ! I really loved the part of the flats (as I'm a big fan of flats, ghettos and commie blocks.. ;D ). That town hall and plazas are very nice. And again that mix of old buildings and modern towers is really well done, and shows very well the ambiance in almost each modern European cities. (and more actually in Germany.) My favorite picture was the first one, truly excellent.
Take care,
-Arthur.
Beautiful creations! You have a very distinct style.
Looks good. :)
Fantastic city &apls
I notice that you use the Pegasus alternative railroads. Because the texture doesn't appear in the N.A.M. puzzle pieces, i think that here (http://hide-inoki.com/bbs/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=803) you will find something useful :)
Happy new year

Aaaaaah, thank you very much! I have been searching for something like this for a very long time :-) I disliked the different railroad textures but I didn't know what to do ... now I have the perfect solution :-)
Interesting MD you have here. And even though you say that you are not aiming for a perfect transportation system I must say I like your rails and roads.
Beautiful city, I love the W2W stuff, and those flats are also great looking. The tram lines which go between the buildings are great looking too!
Fantastic start! Your city is beautifully composed and I really love how much green space you're using!
Good job with the complexity of the city!
I love how you made that park. And really nice city.
Nice MD you have here. I see you try to make a city as realistic as possible. The only thing that bothers me is the Maxis Freeway in your city. The Maxis freeway is very underscaled (the cloverleaf interchange is only 220x220m big. In RL a cloverleaf would take up more than a square kilometer). Try to use the RealHighWay Mod (RHW) instead. This also allows you to make more complex freeway structures and interchanges.
Best,
Maarten
Very nice start to your MD! &apls
I remember popping in here right when you started and being a bit turned off by your claim that you weren't interested in well-designed transport networks or pre-planned cities (I'm sorry if I've corrupted your words). It was worthy of comment then (I assume I got distracted, my ADD often gets the best of me) but after further review I can go beyond complementing you to refuting your self-effacing claims! If your city wasn't well thought out you've fooled me and your transportation networks look great. I'd echo Maarten's suggestion about RHW but I understand it's not for everyone. I'll certainly be keeping an eye on future developments here ;D
Some really nice looking images from Hemsbach, I think you are able to catch the feeling of a big European city. The combinations of different small lots to make nice squares and avenues have turned out great. Very well done.
Happy New Year to everyone!
I'm really sorry but I haven't been able to visit the forum for the last ten days because I moved to another city and started a new job here. But I'm really happy that so many of you posted a comment here...which is why I'm starting this post by answering your comments:
@Tomas Neto: Thank you very much... :-)
@io_bg: Thank you as well. But it takes much time to create a european-looking city like this. You have to tear down countless buildings - at least if you want to create w2w areas.
@art128: Thanks! There will be more flats and ghettos on the other maps of the region....I'm still working on the very first map but it's surrounded by eight large maps....you can see that there is still plenty of work to do!
@Albus of Garaway & scott1964 & Ciuu96 & Battlecat & serebii666 & Getron & kwakelaar : Thank you! I hope that you will like the new pictures as well.
@RickD: Thank you. I do try to create a useful road and railroad-system, though. I just don't plan it ... I know that some players create maps and tables with a road system before they start building their city.
@mrtnrln: You're right. I've downloaded the RHW puzzle pieces several months ago and I've really tried to use them. But I have to admit that I don'T like them very much. They look great but I find it very hard to use them. First of all, my PC sometimes crashs when I use them. And secondly, it takes much more time to create those highways...which is why I decided to use the maxis highways although they are not as realistic as the ones designed with the RHW.
@noahclem: Thank you very much...the city itself is - of course - planned. You cannot build huge cities without having an idea how the city should look like. When I said in the first post that I'm not interested in building a city that is thoroughly planned, I wanted to say that I do not start playing a map by creating street grids, railway lines, highways and so on. I just build a main station and see how my city grows :-)
----
And without any more words, there are some new random pictures!
4.1. Huge cities are incomplete without large schools and universities. Hemsbach has many of them...this pictures shows the Hemsbach University of Technology. Approximately 10,000 people study here...and they all need a place to live. For that reason I built those flats next to the school; they are supposed to be dorms.

Nice city with an interseting mix of W2W and modern buildings
Great job my friend, Very German
Fantastic city, very nice update!!!
I really like the urban area! It definitely has density, and it's not overwhelmed with ultra-dense placement of buildings. The highrises/skyscrapers are a change from many cities because they are fairly spread out and not centralized. Great job! :)
Nice canals, plenty of green, great transportation system, this city is great &apls
Stopped over for the first time, and I do have to congratulate. Fine city! Looks like there's a lot of planning involved in your city! Keep up the good work!
Thanks again for your kind comments! It's really great to read these reactions every time I visit the forum.
Apart from saying thank you, I also wanted to show you some new pictures...and this time, you will get to know the Dark Side of Hemsbach!
I don't use the night mode while playing but sometimes I just turn on the lights to have a look at my city from a different perspective...and here are some of the results:
5.1. The famous historical buildings at my version of Berlin's Gendarmenmarkt do even look better when they are illuminated. I have to say that I really like this plaza in the heart of Hemsbach.

5.2. It happens only very rarely that the normally crowded Alexanderplatz is almost deserted. But even the inhabitants and tourists of Hemsbach do have to sleep sometimes.

5.3. The city that never sleeps? This sentence may not be true for the whole city of Hemsbach, but it is definitely true for the centre of the town, where many people use the main station to leave or to arrive at Hemsbach.

5.4. Like a torch in the night...the statue of Jeanne D'Arc shines brightly in the middle of the night.

5.5. Again Jeanne D'Arc...but this time you can see her in an overview pic.

5.6. A lonely tram on its way to the main station.

5.7. The Hemsbach Stock Exchange attracts bankers and brokers, who scream and shout to increase their money, every day - in the middle of the night, the old building looks rather peacefully.

5.8. A small chateau, the opera, an old church and a famous historical hotel: Hemsbach's historical city centres offers lots of attractions!
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg5.imagebanana.com%2Fimg%2F8ty00wmv%2Fcapture_31012011_215116.jpg&hash=806ffa58d0d028c8e7c42e867155138ca09fc478) (http://www.imagebanana.com/)
5.9. A sharp contrast: Skyscrapers and office buildings at the United Nations plaza.

5.10. And finally, another skyscraper and a large shopping mall in the city centre.

I hope that you like this new perspective of Hemsbach as much as you liked the other pictures in this thread!
I had a look at your codes and they do not link to a picture. I would suggest you upload your pics again to the provider of your chioce and post them again here. I use ImageShack or Photobucket, the later more often than not and I have had no problems. - Robin Global Moderator
It might be a problem on my side but I can't see any of your pictures in the last update. ()what() I'll come back later, hopefully it works then.
The pictures are still not visible...and I have absolutely no clue why this is the case. I uploaded them at the same page as the others...rather strange :angrymore:
Do you have an idea why the pictures cannot be seen?
See my post in your post. I hope that helps. If not contact me through PM and maybe I can walk you through.
Robin ;)
Great updates! Look forward to more ;D
