Hi guys.. Heres a GRRR for you;
In 2 of my citys, both of which are using the same map, there is a invisible unknown no named bug that when searched for can only be located but not seen and is named No Name - Error.
I try to drag the slider bar over and it snaps back to zero, In addition during play it slowly turns down the funding for ALL of my power plants regardless of what they may be..
I included a link to show a screen cap of the master power budget. (yes I know I have more power then I need but I was experimenting)
When I click "Error No Name" it goes to a blank spot or a spot where its covered up. I dug and went into pipe and tube mode and I saw nothing. Its getting irritating because as I discovered if a plant gets turned down to maybe 3% with a full load they blow up
I have a 3rd copy of this map that had the same issue. I did the 'God Smite' as I call it (that lil red plunger in the left hand side ) to start over with a totally clean slate of the map. It soo it must be a add on that got corrupted..
How do I rid myself of this gremlin w/o sacrificing my Sims to there little pagan gods?

Thanks guys..
What you probably have is a corrupt plugin. In the city where this Error: No Name thing is, click on "Error No Name" in the power budget pane. When it goes to the blank spot or a spot where its covered up, run the bulldozer tool over the area to see if you can find an invisible lot. Just because you don't see anything, doesn't mean that there's nothing there. You also should go through your plugins and see if one of them is causing the problem. You should divide your plugins folder up into sections, removing them all accept for one at a time until you find a section that causes this Error: No Name thing to show up in game. Next, divide that section up and slowly narrow it down until you have found the plugin that is causing the problem. Remember, when removing them, place them on your desktop or in another folder not in your plugins folder and not in the recycling bin or the trash because you might loose them, which would be bad. Anyway, good luck with your problem and feel free to ask more questions in the future!

I did the bulldozer, trust me. Along with every disaster in the game and terraforming.. I didn't think it was a plug in tho.. SO I did what suggested sorta.. I changed my usual plugin folder name to a nasty word and the one in the game folder I just zipped the contents and deleted them. I am so glad I was sitting down when the city started because I got notices of missing stuff and boxes everywhere and the graphics was acting strangely..
Anyway ERROR:NO NAME No gone it still there just closer to the top of the list..
No need to divide the plugin folder its only a mere 1.5 gigs, so far and i don't think I have any plug-ins that would be listed as a power utility...
I am not a complete noob, I have manipulated The Sims and Sims 2 (My Sims had a baby alien!) and Simcitys and a few others to know how to divide and conquer when needed.. I am just a poor speller and a even worse typist so it can get ugly
I build/fix computers (I just manually removed that security shield crap from hell from a friends computer UGH)
Anyway back to my poor neurotic city...
So what would the next idea be ?
You may what to check out the discussion on the Slider Bug (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=10660.0), but I don't think that is your problem.
If you start a new city with no plugins do you have this problem?

I do not intend to sound sarcastic but to
deliberately start Simcity with no mods is like asking the pope to rise in the morning w/o his Catholicism, or a blond man to leave his house w/o his dog.. I mean Ive for trouble shooting but not to start a game..
???
Short answer - No. What a concept that is to me.
However I have started new cities w/o a problem. Using my old plugins from 3 years ago and some new and upadated ones from here.
I used to have two cities with the same issue (A clone of this one in the same region,) but I got bored with it and expunged it with that cute little red plunger on the left to restart the terrain clean and simless.. I dont want to do that with this one if I can help it..
Now that Slider Bug AH HA that sounded close. Difference is I have one slider (Error - No Name) bar that snaps to 0 when I pull it to 100 and the others slowly get turned down in about an hour of game time then I start getting power shortage notices.
If I was to delete all the wind mills and hydrogen plants ect it would still leave the Error No Name slider because its cloaked and unfindable in a spot on the map no matter what I do . Its the biggest map size there is to, and once early on - 2 years ago or so - I did bulldoze everything (by raising and lowering the terrain in god terrain mode) And the one thing that stayed was that Error with no name. I just remembered doing that, its the best way cus U can keep your underground water pipes and subways and money
Isn't there a handy dandy program here that will allow me to view all mods and bats and objects related to or part of the file so i can see a embedded modification with this program?.
I just noticed that the city in question is a fat 24 meg sc4 file. Kinda fat for a city file I think?
Thanks for finding that thread in the forum. Im still getting lost and distracted in the forum. I did a fruitless search for "Utility" and didn't think of using the word "slider"
Are you aXXo over at simtropolis? A similar problem posted a few days ago.
You may also want to check the root plugin folder Program Files...\Simcity 4\Plugins. There may be a mod there too.

It's really the best way to start troubleshooting. If you take out all of your plugins and the city works, then we can actually solve your problem. If not, well, then your city is probably broken.
Unless you used to have a mod that you don't have anymore, in which case you will have to figure out which one that is.

Unfortunately no. All of these mods have their ID numbers, so unless someone makes a database that connects the numbers to actually mean something to us, the chances are pretty slim. However, I am not a programmer, so such things are out of my realm. The closest thing you are going to get is Save Game Explorer (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2021).
Hmm, Perhaps try this (PIMX (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2260)). PIMX will go through all of your plugins and categorize them by models/props/buildings/etc. I will say that 3 gigs is too much to ask for it to read at once. 300-500mb tops. Your hope in running this is that PIMX will give you an error message with at some point, and that error file will be some power building.
You will need some .dlls for either of these programs to work, and they can be found in the proper threads.

It is large yes, but not unexpected. My specifics are probably wrong, but SC4 compression only happens when cities are 0xFFFFFFFF bits and less (seems like a large number, but understand that there is a limit to compression). You will see a significant file size jump after that point.
If you are playing with the Save Game Explorer, you could also load your city and see if it as Prop Pox. I dont think you do, or that it relates to your problem at all. But it would be interesting to see if a rater large, rather old city has it.

Hmmm No I am not axxo I was told the original axxo is gone and has been for some years and has been replaced, impersonated, imitated and almost celebrated. and NOT on simtropolis.
----------------
And I did the procedure I think I remember posting of about evacuting anything and everything from both folders called 'plugins'. I discovered those big boxes look kinda cool, its first time I ever encountered them in the 3 years Ive played. The video acted strange but thats OK.
Everything worked as expected - aside form the plug-ins being gone the glitch in that 1 city was still there.
----------------
No mods in my Program Files...\Simcity 4\Plugins folders.
If it was a mod I used to have then more citys would be effected but there isnt any just this one thats acting up.
-----------------
I know about the troubleshooting method, I did the same thing when my pregnant Sims2 was about to have a baby alien.. Go figure. I am still not sure how HE got that way except maybe when he was abducted so many times. Thak god its only a game.I had to sort out the folder half and half again at a time.
--------------
I will check out those programs and I can find any dll file that needs to be found. Bailsman called and I have to go find somebody pronto, I will try to check back in a few days.
Be good all of you, I shall be back. And THANKS ALL OF YOU for taking the time to give me some input on the matter, I like input, input makes your brain churn better.

I thought it was a pretty daring name for someone to take.
Good luck with that last comment, and good luck with the city. I will be trying to replicate your problem in the mean time.
I found a workaround from the problem that motivated me to open this thread from the start;
I created a city next door, named it Voltage that is nothing but a few dozen power plants and I ran several connections to the city that had the power issue.
Then at the city with the power issue I deleted every single power plant it had after establishing a neighbor deal buying all available power from Voltage.
Now under the power utilities list the only thing listed is the "No Name" drain that I cant delete.
No more constant messages that the funding is too low or anything.
Its not a fix but currently I am happy with it.
