Title: Harishna's BATing room
Post by: harishna on February 28, 2011, 03:01:17 AM
G'day people I decided to show my work here

This is my first BAT well this is actually a v2, as I discarded a first version made with GMAX, anyways the building in question is the Autonomous National University of Mexico main library. This building dates back to 1950 and forms part of a group of landmark buildings that make the campus a World Heritage site. The facade of the building is covered by beautiful murals made of colored stones designed by Juan O'Gorman. There are also figures with indigenous themes embedded in the rock walls.
Anyways on to the BAT, well I think the modeling is done, and most of the texturing I just need to add trees and make the night version. Drop me a line

Thanks for the comments Aaron and Peter007.

Peterycristi Thanks I am also working in the Rectoria tower just in front of the library we will see what comes after that :) maybe I will try the Humanidades tower just across...

So here is an update on the library

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg819.imageshack.us%2Fimg819%2F8340%2Fbibliotecaw3.jpg&hash=f4c71781187363a3ab7081314d0590967c016de3) (http://img819.imageshack.us/i/bibliotecaw3.jpg/)

Uploaded with ImageShack.us (http://imageshack.us)

I have also been working in the Rectoria tower from the same campus, I had to take out some details as it was getting to much for my computer...anyways most of the modeling is finished, I need to work in some of the textures, add roof junk and model the lot.  The building is sunken in reference to the street so there is a plaza that gives access to the main entrance I have decided to I add a DRAFT of this plaza to see how could it sit in the lot...

So here is a small update on both models, comments welcome!

Library? that is one spectacular building. The light treatment to the roof elevator mechanical room is a bit on the hard side but that's a quibble for sure.

Good Luck

The UNAM library is a great piece of latin american modernist architecture and your recreation is excellent. Those murals are really interesting. In the night render maybe you can set back the lights somewhat from the wall so that the border between lit and unlit areas aren't as sharp. I think that would make it look even better and correspond better to the real lights of the building.

Good job  &apls

densify your foliage,

you desaturate too much you green color for the trees

click rignt on your trees,

object properties,

return black option

your result will be better (more contrast)

Jim: Thanks for the kind words! yes, ugly night lights hope it is an

Guillaume: Thanks very much

antn: thanks, I have been playing with the lights a little bit, took rid of all those ugly lights and change to Photometric ones, I have been playing with the setting during the weekend, hope they look better.

Girafe: I am using the AEC Objects with density of 1, can I make them denser? or would you recommend me a different technique for making my trees? (I just don't want em to be to heavy as I don't have a super machine). I used the return black options and the results are pretty good.

Peter: Thanks for stopping by, great work with that plane!

Here a small update (I think I finished the library, unless someone has something to say! :))

Great Progress. I already saw your buildings at the STEX.
If I may add something to your buildings?
I would make the roof a little bit busier.
Not the upper roof that one is realy fine.

Very interesting projects.  &apls

The fourth picture this building that you want to do this is the version W2W is a plot 1x2 tile next to the parking lot? Because it is difficult to figure out this photo of a building it :)
I like the most this round building on the last photo. Look forward to its completion.
In any case a good job.
Best wishes.

Ernst do you mean also making the library roof busier I try to keep it as close to the RL thing as possible so I don't know what more to add, so if you have specific suggestions they are more than welcome, here is how it looks in from google earth
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1102.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fg441%2Fharishna%2FUNAMrec.jpg&hash=f92306dced1d58f7e22557809f3a8036b53701c8)

regarding the small shops I guess I will try to add more stuff and make it a tad darker overall.
Title: Re: Harishna's BATing room
Post by: peter007 on May 24, 2011, 06:36:36 AM
Hmm yes you're right there isn't very much on the roof.
But in simcity4 you have 1 view and that's the perspective view. Which will uncover your whole roof.
And that's a problem I guess, because the roof will look a bit ''bland'' (in the empty way) . So maybe you could add some dirt or a bump map.
Or maybe some water splashes around from the last rain. It will eventually hopefully make it better.
Nevertheless It's a great building with great adds! &apls

So I asked Girafe about his lovely trees and he kindly offered to contribute to my UNAM library BAT by adding some of his beautiful creations. So before I hand it to the more capable hands of Girafe I decided to showed it in its current state. Not much has changed mainly the roof textures I change the tone (redder now) added more contrast and added a bump map. I also added a couple of details here and there like the access ramps...
So speak now or..

for the parking I would say that lotting is better than batting entirely the LOT.

Moreover the cars are not at the level of the rest, check free database like skp for better models.

I haven't been very active around here but I am still alive and kicking and for those of you who don't follow my thread on ST I released my rectoria tower a while ago http://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/27705-unam-rectoria-tower/ (http://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/27705-unam-rectoria-tower/) and today I released a collection of 9 BATs from Mexico City mostly W2W but also including the VIPS restaurant, you can get them here:http://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/28040-harishnas-mexico-city-bat-collection/ (http://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/28040-harishnas-mexico-city-bat-collection/)

and here a preview

From my UNAM collection the Humanidades Tower II is being exported and I have made good progress in a new building Postgrado de Arquitectura, I just have to finish the roof junk, add nightlights and hopefully some of Girafe beautiful tress!

Here you can see them together, I think will release them individually and together as in the preview.
