Title: Farm fields appear abandoned
Post by: penguin007 on February 28, 2011, 08:39:42 AM
Hi some of my fields have seemingly abandoned although not all of them. The abandonment seems to be in patterns and to be honest I'm not sure what is causing the problem. Here's a picture, if anyone has any solutions I'd love to know!!

I've noticed that farm fields get grey when they're next to a busy road... but I see some tiles that aren't next to a road and that's quite strange %confuso

The long dark strip up the middle is a flaw with irregularly shaped farm fields in the simulator.  It will conclude that odd strips of land are unable to access the road even though it's obvious to us that there isn't a problem.  The issue along the edge of farms is traffic.  The farms are far too sensitive to traffic because the simulator is designed for eventually discarding all the fields.

There are several possible solutions to both the problems.

For the black strip up the middle, the first solution is to add a small road or street stub to touch the field at another location.  You can get the best results by doing this at one or more corners of the fields.

For the road edges one thing that can help is parks and trees or any pollution reducing lot.

The solution I use in my MD for both problems is to simply replace the field edges with visibly identical lots.  There is an excellent pack on simtropolis, but unfortunately the site is down right now.  However, when it is working, the file can be obtained here (http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=17233).  A small subset of fields, including the corn featured in this post can be found on the Three Rivers Region exchange. (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=5603.0)  Both of these sets appear in your parks menu near the bottom.
