Title: Roads and streets without shoulders?
Post by: FrankU on April 06, 2011, 02:32:31 AM
Hi, I am not really new to the game, but I do have a newbie question.

I remember to have read about a mod that removes the shoulder texture (base texture) from roads and streets in agricultural areas. But I seem not to be able to find it. Not on my HD not on the STEX and not on the LEX.

Can anyone confirm that it exists and which one is it? Please?
Maybe it is part of a larger mod, but there are so many. Because of all the trees I can't find the forest anymore (Dutch saying).

Maybe there's another mod, but the "No Rail Dirt Mod" by PEG and Swamper77 removes the dirt texture below the railway textures, and since they use the same texture, the dirt also gets removed from streets in agricultural and landfill zones.

You could also use dedgren's rural roads available in the LEX.

Hi Andreas and io_bg,

Thanks for the advice. I knew of the PEG-Swamper mod, but thought there was some NAM option or something that worked the same way.
Anyway, I have my shoulderless roads and streets now at the farmlands.

Now, to make it more difficult, the next question.
Is there a possiblity to still leave out the base texturte of streets (and maybe roads) if there is a lot plopped next to the street?
I work with some canal lots that I want to plop next to the streets and I still do not want to see the base texture. Is there some kind of modd that leaves the texture out in this case, or is there some kind of ploppable item that does not call for the base texture on the adjacent lot?

For that I use a simple trick, pick the farm zoning tool and with CTRL pressed, zone over the road/street, starting off road. For example, you have a lot 2x wide on one side of the road, start on the opposite side of the road and drag over it along the lot wide, not over the lot, just over the road in front of the lot. If you have a lot on both sides of the road, try to use that trick before plopping/growing the lots.

I think you also have to be aware of the wealth of your plopped lot.  If you are plopping in an agricultural zone, make sure the plop is low wealth.
