Title: Canals and Waterways
Post by: finaltable on April 17, 2011, 07:07:32 PM
After installing everything from the Lex Disk, I learned that it was way to much to go through, especially the canals and waterways.  So I'm wondering if some of you seasoned players might offer some suggestions as to what I could select to install.

I would like to say that I like SG canals and the hydro dam from Pegus, but not what else would be good to go with them.  Any building plops are fine, I just don't want to go through to many canal pieces from everyone.

I'm including a couple screen shots to maybe make this easier for anyone here to suggest some things.

The SG Canals are probably the most complete set out there, so it's a good place to start.  You can install the majority of the set from the DVD by checking the SG Complete box.  I'd start with that before you install any addons.

There are some Newman Inc addons for the SG Canals, plus his CCPW set which adds park walk alongside the canals that can connect to other BSC parks.  The BMD Venice lots are for use in a Mediterranean style.  They are beautiful, but there are many lots in that set.

I always prefer to install custom content in small batches, then play with it in the game.  If I like it, then it becomes a permanent addition to my Plugins folder.  If you are going to become a custom content junkie, you'll have to learn how to use the DAMN to unclutter your menus at some point.

Thanks Scott, that's helpful in making a decision.  I have wanted to stay away from the DAMN for now, but like you said, I'll have to get around to it at some point.  Will the SG canals connect to the Pegus pond, rivers, and lakes?

Thanks for the advice on the BMD Venice, I'll stay away from that one until I get more acquainted with the game and learn to use the DAMN.

Are the CAL Canals the same thing as the Sim Goober Canals?  Just revamped?  What's the difference and if someone installed both, would it be to much to go through?

The CAL Canals are based on the SG Canals, but with a new and improved water texture.  It has almost all the same pieces as the SG Canals, but it doesn't have all of the same addons.  There are some unique addons for the CAL Canals.  Since the water textures don't match, it's hard to use these sets together with good results.

As for it being too much, that's up to you to decide.  You will have a lot of new icons in your Parks menu.

I went with the general guidelines you gave and hope to integrate them soon.  As for now it is just the right enough stuff in that folder, so it's enough for me to play around with for now and get the hang of it.    Thanks!
