Title: Jen's version of Shosaloza...
Post by: jen_p on December 26, 2006, 06:12:15 PM
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg291.imageshack.us%2Fimg291%2F8158%2Fheadervb1.jpg&hash=13a4a9d9b71149ca22cd2672119c86c04d91302e)

Well here it is. My version of Shosaloza. This is take two, because my first version was destroyed when my computer blue-screened whilst saving the major city.

First off, I used a different map. There's nothing wrong with the map that Colyn chose for this game, but it just didn't inspire me. So here's what I chose to work with. Essentially, it is the same size, and has some rather challenging mountainous areas. I am still trying to achieve the same results as everyone else. Here's the map that I used (with some development from version 1):

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg244.imageshack.us%2Fimg244%2F3349%2Fshosaloza1bi2.jpg&hash=abd5a4d00543507d0e9c73c7ff49f45b99dad115)

And here's some shots of the first big city I've been working on:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg243.imageshack.us%2Fimg243%2F8991%2Fshosaloza15ty2.jpg&hash=268dd349c50ccf39bdf626397fdb0bc3f6b7248f)

Here's a mosaic of a low-wealth suburb, near an industrial hub:

The houses are one of my current projects, the lots are a work in progress.

That is a cool region Jen. You picked the perfect spot for your Downtown area. The suburb on the slopes is looking awesome. Where in the region did you build that (I cannot locate the highway in the regional view  #?¿?¿?$

Great work again Jen P. I like how your highways sneak between two hills from valley to valley. Though I think the airport looks better without a mountain blocking the runway  ;)  But on the other end: it's green, environmental probably the best airport....

I have one more mosaic for you now, probably the last mosaic for a little while. I need to do some more serious city building before I can show you large portions of a city. This mosaic is quite a long one, and shows both the residential and industrial parts of the city.

First, to answer a couple of questions:

vab423: The building you asked about is Chelsea Tower by ks, available here: BAT Showcase by ks (http://www.geocities.jp/ks3514136/bat.html) It may also be available on the STEX as an English version, but I don't remember it being there.

Bishop Hawke: That interchange is part of the NAM.

And now for the update. These pictures are from the same city as my first post (in random order). The region population currently stands at 151,000.

Wow. And I think I had many buildings in my plugins - and just in the last few pics I see a lot that I never seen before.

2 of them I realy like a lot and wish to use to.. Can you let me know where the grey residential building (with pool and sign KNATI?) and the bluegrey residential highrise (with the 'wings') on top can be found?

Post by: BarbyW on January 01, 2007, 03:04:57 AM
Hi, Sebes, I can tell you what the residential with the pool is but no the high rise. The first is Jen's Mondrianesque Appartments in the STEX - unfortunately currently not available along with the rest of ST. Do a search for jen_p when ST is back and you should find them along with her other lovely buildings.

They look indeed bixel's Chelsea Court, but cannot assure as the colours look different, but it could be a different version

Here's another set of screenshots, this time from Hebridea, mainly a residential city.

Early on the small downtown area was dismal and lifeless:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg407.imageshack.us%2Fimg407%2F8027%2Fshosaloza32ys2.jpg&hash=0bc7f111ea7e686766847adee1c787e5e154905a)

A few years later:

Everything looks fantastic, I love the layout, the buildings everything, but one thing bugs me a lot, the roads look like roller coasters, I hate that. That's the one thing that always had annoyed me. I don't mean you have to terraform and flat all the terrain, but sure you can smooth it a little to make the roads look a bit more natural. Try to use Jeronij's tunnel and slope terrain, and try to follow his building technique. Have a look at his experiment Slope City.
I hope you take this critic of mine as a good and constructive one. I don't mean to put you down but to make you improve even more your already great skills on this game.
Cheers
Rayden

Jen - looking great - there are some seriously unusual BATs in here - I love how you mix all of the Japanese, BSC, NDEX etc stuff. Looks really good.

Rayden: I understand what you are saying about the roads, however to me that is fairly realistic. In my neck of the woods we do have roads like that, like a rollercoaster. One road near my house has a sign on it, Warning - Undulating Surface next 2km, and believe me it is an understatement. I will however try to tone down some of the more abrupt slopes. And thanks for your other comments, I'm glad you like the layout.

Matt, sebes & bat: thanks for your comments.

Here's some more pictures from one of Hebridea's islands:

First, a couple of Z4 shots, then a few closer in:

Of course I like the layout and everything else. Nice lots, very well distributed, not too repetitive, what's there to dislike?  ;D

Great stuff again - good to see someone master Marrast's sea walls. I usually end up making a terrible matzoh of the whole thing :D

Matt, would you believe me if I said that I find these kinds of walls very easy to use, as opposed to the sea walls that change the height of the terrain when plopped? I can never get them to work >:(.

I'd believe you 99! (I'm always backwards with these things) I usually use pegs' levelling thingy when I'm doing the sea walls, which is why I can get them... ;)

I didn't realise how long it has been since I posted here. Anyway work sort of wore me out and I didn't play SC4 much. Here are a few more shots from Shosaloza. This is a city called Banyan, which I've just started. I don't usally play with it set to night, but wanted to see what the nitelites turned out like on some buildings I've made, and I ended up panning around the city to see what everything else looked like too. Pics are shown in a random order.

Beautiful pictures Jen

The cities sure do look different at night, and there are some very nicely lit buildings in your pictures.

I too don't play on the night setting much, but I love night pictures.

i believe that is by APTX and is on the STEX, and if it is not, then it is on his site (link to it in the Guide to Japanese BAT hunting) at ST>.

Yes, Alek is right, it's Daimaru by APTX, and the link for the website is here: http://home.s04.itscom.net/aptx/

There are quite a few other great buildings available there too, especially some great rail stations.
