Hey guys, I recently built a new computer with these specs:
AMD Athlon II x2
Radeon HD 4250
4 GB DDR3 RAM
1 TB HDD
My question is, how can I tell my computer to run SC4 using only one of my 2 cores. I hear SimCity doesn't play well with multi cores and I don't want any CTDs. Any help appreciated. I use Windows XP 32-bit. Thanks guys. :)
It's really simple, you have actually two ways:
The first one is to, when SC4 is running, Open the task manager (right click on the taskbar and then "open the task manager" ) then go to the processes tab (or processus (sorry my windows is in French :/ ) and locate SC4 (commonly at the end of the list. right click on it and then set affinity. simply choose one of the two cores.
The other way is to use a shortcut to run the game. Then you'll have to right click on it and then on the target area enter this at the end: -CPUCount:1 like this (my shortcut) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Maxis\SimCity 4 Deluxe\Apps\SimCity 4.exe" -CustomResolution:enabled -r1776x1000x32 -w -intro:off -CPUCount:1 --- Be carefull, remember to ALWAYS let a space between each thing you add, if not the .exe will not work.
Thank you for the help!
With that processor you may also find you need this Dual Core Optimizer (http://support.amd.com/us/Pages/dynamicDetails.aspx?ListID=c5cd2c08-1432-4756-aafa-4d9dc646342f&ItemID=153&lang=us) patch from AMD
