Title: BigBerta - Pictures
Post by: bigberta on May 27, 2007, 09:53:26 AM
Hello all!
Because of the great response I got after entering a picture in the picture competiton I thought Id show you some more of my creations.
I have had a cj running over at ST for a while now, but since I feel that this community is more closely knit Im thinking of focusing my attention on this md instead.
Dont be afraid to let me know what you think.

The following update is focused on a scandinavian city known as Gusto. The pictures are mainly of the older parts of the city and some suburbs. Many of these pictures can be seen on ST or in the the picture competition, but some are brand new.
Some of the pictures may have a limited amount of traffic, this is due to plopping. But in future updates this will be less of a problem. I actually have a healthy population now :)
Enjoy!

Older parts:

Wow!  That is one fine set of pics, bigberta.  Thanks so much for coming on over here and sharing them with us.  Judging from what I see here, the buzz from the pic competition won't be stopping anytime soon.

Good luck!

bigberta, I'm really glad to see you've decided to start an MD here.  These are some absolutely fantastic pics.  Gusto has a really nice feel to it, and I particularly like your use of the retaining and sea walls.  I also have to concur with TTC--the colors really "pop".

Looking forward to seeing more!

It's just like looking out the window! ;D Good stuff.

The w2w action in the very first picture is extremly realistic. It looks exactly like the real thing.

As i´m from Sweden myself, I can tell the rest of you that this is very realistic ;) Nice use of cycleways. The mixture between apartments and small houses is great. Keep it up. Just make sure to mix some really dirty 60´s office buildings with thouse old w2w buildings ;)

I like it alot!

Nice work, the W2W buildings definately fit into the city and the water sourrounding it reminds a bit on a mixture of Stockholm and Amsterdam.

A great showcase Bigberta!

I love that your building style is truely pan-european... The photos show a Dutch atmosphere, but at the same time German, French, Nordic even a bit mediteranean, and that mixed in modern and old... Real pieces of art here.

(the one with the yellow flats is absolutely my favo )

Wonderful work BigBerta!

W2W areas are built in one style and that makes them not only realistic but eye-pleasing. However, what I like the most are the suburbs. I love how you matched typical european apartment blocks with bike paths. Everything is so clean and logical.

You just made me open SC4 and start building

Take care,
szarkoz

You like colors - so do I. Beautiful pictures!  :sunny:

Great use of cycleways, also the street side mod with colourful cars looks very well with these buildings.

There is much space for peple here - good to live in such place.

Update!

Hi again.
First of all let me apologize for my long absence. I've been working a lot for the past couple of weeks, and when I'm not working im out enjoying the weather :)

I don't have time for personal replies right now, but id like to thank everyone who has commented my pictures. You're all so kind :)

Now, I have some news that you may find interesting...
Due to my work I'm out on the roads here in central Sweden, a lot... Driving through mostly rural areas has influenced me - I want to try to recreate some of the rural areas ive seen during the last weeks. Ive never really tried creating anything even remotely rural before so this will be an adventure :)

I know I promised more urban/suburban pictures in my first post, but you'll have to hang in there. I'm really anxious to get this rural experiment going :)

Here's a teaser of whats to come (expect a proper update in the near future ;))

Hi
My computer has been acting up during the last couple of days. It's crashing regularly - I think it's because of the heat...
This of course presents a problem. I'ts preventing me from playing as much as I'd like to. And that means that I can't promise that the next update will be coming anytime soon. I hope it will, but unless I get my computer fixed you're in for a wait... Sorry all, just cross your fingers...

I thought I'd just give you something to look at until the next update, my first really scenic picture :)

It's a shame your computer wont work. I had a crash recently myself, so I made a rationall decision and bought a new one, lol. Anyway the lake looks realistic. Reminds me of Umeälven around where I live in the north :)

Beautiful teasers BTW.  I love both of them.

Hello once again!
First of all, let me thank you for your fantastic comments. You make all the "hard" work totally worthwhile :)

I've been really active here these last few days :) I guess it's because the weather is not quite as nice as it was...
Like I said in my previous post, there is something wrong with my computer. I was planning on postponing my next update until I felt I had enough pictures to post, but since I don't know when that might be I thought to myself: heck, why keep the pictures I do have to myself? Why not let the world see them? - So here they are, the pictures I managed to take before my computer started acting up. I hope to get my computer sorted out soon...
Until then, enjoy these ;)

Whoa. Freakin Awesome  The only thing I would do differently is the church. It's a bit to big to big for this kind of area but otherwise it's a perfect example of swedish realism, especially in that last picture with the transition farms->commercial retail.

And that ditch beside the highway, wow you've thought of just about everything.

Puss och kram, lol  $%Grinno$%

Really, really good. And I have to disagree with metasmurf. I don't think the church is too big, it looks just fine to me. On the other hand I don't like one of the farms (the "cube" one) - I think it looks more mediterranian than Swedish.

But all in all:

Great pictures of your farming area.  Looks very realistic and well thought out.  Very good use of peg's stream and the plop water blends in well to the surrounding scenery.  I'll have to watch out for this one.

Well, I have some time on my hands. Why not spend it replying to all the kind people who have commented?
Still can't play the game though, so no update  :( stay tuned for that...

FromTheAshes - Danke schön :)

Vario80 - Thanks, that was the idea.

tcx - Really? Which one is yours? Oh, and thank you :)

Yoder7652 - Thank you very much.

sebes - Thanks. Again, thats what I was trying to do. Glad you noticed.
(I think its my favorite to, so far... ;))

MsD - Thank you, im glad you like it. I'm sure yours will look even better :)

glepet - Thanks, hope you liked the last update too.

szarkoz - Wow, thank you. I'm really pleased to know that I've influenced someone. I remember the times that I've stumbled on to a CJ/MD and been influenced. Thats what this is all about.

Ennedi - Thank you. The cycleways are an important part of the swedish infrastructure. We like to ride our bikes here :)

thundercrack83 - Thanks. I hope you liked the next set of pictures aswell.

stewart_garden - Thank you. Rightly so. I would really recommend coming here, but only in the summer :) Unless you like rainy winters, but I guess you're pretty fed up with that, being british and all ;)

bat - Danke. Glad you liked it

metasmurf - Tack :) I'll probably have to buy a new one... Oh, and I love that part of the country. It's too bad i don't visit it more often...

Ennedi - Thanks again. That was the best I could do to match the swedish flora.

bat - Thanks. I plan on making more :)

Snaper - Thank you, very kind.

MsD - Thanks. You forgot to make a backup, right? Too bad...

metasmurf - First of all, tack så mycket :) You make an excellent point. I can see how you would think that the church is to big, but actually, churches in this part of sweden (närke, västmanland, sörmland) are fairly big. However, i don't think that this particular church is right for the setting, but I havent been able to find any really nordic looking ones. Maybe you know..? And I really wish that the ditch didn't have to be so big... :)

emilin - Tack :) Damnit, you're right. I didn't notice that. I'm removing it immediately :)

bat - Thank you. There will be more urban/suburban pictures. You'll just have to wait a while ;)

rooker1 - Thanks. I'm glad you like my humble MD :)

Ok folks, that's it for this time. Don't give up on me, there will be more updates. I live for this stuff ;)

Until tomorrow then...

I love the pictures, except for one detail. The fence is a litle overkill. I know of a set of props that looks very similar to what you're trying to create, (Viltstängsel, right ?). They're included in Jeronij industrial mega pack vol 1 (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=246). They even have openings so raindeer can be moved over the road in controlled maners.

About the churches, simgoober has released a few churches in scandinavian style, links provided

Small Nordic Church (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=420)

Grundtvig Church (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=419)

There's one more over at ST but the search function doesn't work at the moment.

Forgive me for beeing picky, but as the pictures almost reaches perfection, I feel obligated to help out :)

These last two pictures are really beautiful Bigberta.

I am from Scotland originally, so I am very used to wet winters!  I can't say that I like them too much though, but it has always made me want to have some sort of weather function in SimCity because in all of my cities it is a beautiful day every day, and that just doesn't seem right  :)

Hi!
Well, my computer is fixed :) Turns out that my TV-card isn't compatible with vista... Strange though, because it worked for several weeks. Maybe it's just broken... But whatever. The important thing is I'm now able to play again. But first, replies :)

Replies:

Snaper - Thank you, thats very kind. I'm always trying to create realism. I wouldn't say its incredible though :)

metasmurf - Thanks for the tip. I've looked at jeronij´s fence before but honestly I think mine looks better :) His fences have some sort of yellow detailing that doesn't really fit in to my setting IMO. I agree that mine arent perfect either, but it's the best I can do.
And thanks for linking to the churches. The small nordic church is absolutely perfect :)
Oh, and please be picky :) I always want to learn.

bat - Thanks, glad you like them.

And now the pictures (these will probably be the last truly rural pictures in a while, I want to try something different :))

Rural areas are my favourites and these pic's look great. Nice work with the landscaping, especially along the river.

I like the rail station in the first pic, is it available on any of the exchanges?

Looking forward to more.

Cheers

Dave

Thanks, I'm glad you like the pics.
About the station. I'm not really sure where I got it but I'm pretty certain that Ill Tonkso created it. It should be available on atleast one of the exchanges.

Beautiful! Absolutely beautiful, my friend! I love your farm areas, and the ploppable river that you laid down is spectacular! Also, the subtle photoshopping that you do really adds to your pictures. It makes them much more colorful! Great job!

Great update.  I really like the farm house in the second picture and the river looks very realistic.  If I may suggest adding a little more rocks and trees along the edge, it may look a little bit better, IMHO.

Wow....
Especially the "Swedish Lake", any Lodges around available?  ;D
One hint: Try the "Asphalt Textures" for the Freeways (STEX), looks way more realistic, especialy in european settings.

sebes being that the pics both use the euro texture mod and the odd angles of the roads in the first pic i thought you amy have realised that the picture was mirrored lol
